Location Based Services . How to?

Can anyone recommend a good third party software that would provide LBS for an app I need to write? I need to find some way of getting the position of a user on a mobile device either on the host or client side. So far from looking I havent seen an API or any software that a developer can integrate with to get this functionality.
Thanks!!

Hi,
The location based api proposed jsr is JSR-179. You can find the details at http://jcp.org/en/jsr/detail?id=179
Hope this will help you.
There is no reference implementation available as yet.
thanks,

help me to perform adding WEB Services as described bellow:
    Hello,
It depends a Little bit on the used Visual Studio Version. Basically do a right-mouse click on "References" and select
The next steps are a Little bit hidden & confusing: In the next Dialog click on "Advanced..", then add "Web reference" and here you can enter the URL for SSRS SOAP, click on the green arrow and the WSDL data will be retrieved &

  • Location based services with ELM AP?

    Hello Experts,
Maybe you have some experience with this stuff? Is it possible to use location based services with Enhanced Local Mode APs?

As long as the AP is serving clients it can, once you remove that and set it like in Monitor Mode and use it for a sniffer or spectrum it can't. So as long as your site survey has triangulation and meets the requirement for location base, you should be fine.

  • Does location based services (LBS) work for international locations (outside the USA)?

Does location based services (LBS) work for international locations (outside the USA)? For example does it work in Canada, European countries etc. Any help is appreciated.

Yes, but possibly limited to coverage of Skyhook database..
Applications that use location services also use the data from Skyhook...
Skyhook is a service that records the MAC addresses of Cell Base stations/towers and wireless access points.
Google Maps vehicles records the wireless AP data at the same time they get street view images.
There was some controversy over this - but they effectively record the location and the MAC address of any AP they find as they drive round. This gets sent to a massive database at Skyhook and is used to either locate without GPS or enhance/aid the GPS information. It's also why the location is always the road outside!
If your location/MAC relationship has not been mapped by Skyhook, Google or others - then the good news is that you can add it - although it can take a month or two at least - to work. The reason is that it depends which database is being used by Skyhook's clients..
Add your Wireless Access Point (or Wireless Router) here: http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/submit_ap.php
The main website for Skyhook is here: http://www.skyhookwireless.com
    Hope that helps...!

  • Site survey for location based services

    Hi Experts ,
Wht are the paramenters I need to concentrate while doing the site survey that incldes the requirement of location services?
    Thanks,
    Regards,
    Vijay.

    Location-based services:
WLAN location-based services requires that access points are placed in such a
fashion that the Active RFID tags and 802.11 clients ar
e surrounded by access points for ultimate optimization.
(This is a different access point placement strategy than data and voice WLAN only networks). If you are
surveying for location based services, acce
ss point placement is done differently. For more information on
deploying location based services, refer to the Cisco 2700 Series Wireless Location Appliance Deployment
    Guide available at Cisco.com.

  • Location Based Services

    Hi all!
Does anyone know if there is any mobile device which currently supposts "JSR-179" which is the API for physically locating a mobile phone or device???
    Thanks...

    Hi
I couldn't add the location API to my J2ME Wireless Toolkit 2.2 but installing the new version of that J2ME Wireless Toolkit (2.3) I was able to get the Location Base API 1.0 which is included in that kit and work fine in an emulator. The version 2.3 is a beta release and can be downloaded from sun site. I don't know if there is a final release, if so, let me know.
    I hope this help.

How do i fix this? my reminders location is on, but still cant do it....

    Solution.
Since the change from google maps to apple maps. It is now necessary to go to your details in contacts, select your home address, maps appear now select by tapping on a road next to your home, a new pin appears saying dropped pin, click the arrow then add to contacts, add to existing, select yourself, then edit, delete the old home address then change the new one to read home. Do for other stored addresses. Works just fine now with siri

  • 3GS - delay in charging, seems to location based..

Hi, I've had this problem for several months now and I can't find any information on how to deal with it:
Under both OS3 and OS4, when connected to a Dension Car Kit (with a charge convertor block), iPhone 3GS won't take a charge until, it seems, it's physically gone a couple of miles up the road. It always starts charging at the same spot on the road - it's not 'time' based, I could get to that spot on the road after five minutes or half an hour, no charge until it's passed. Putting the phone into airplane mode means it takes even longer to finally accept the charge and isn't sensitive to travelling past that same spot on the road.
Unaffected is iPod Touch 1st Gen, so that rules out a fault with the (admittedly flaky) Dension unit. The charge convertor block works fine when connected to the firewire charger for a 3rd Gen Ipod with the iPhone connected to the other end, thus ruling out the charging block.
I can only think that there is some kind of location based service which is blocking the phone from taking charge the minute I drop it into the cradle.
    Any thoughts?

  • How to send location based push notification

How to send notification from website to the devices in   particular latitude and longitude

I assume you mean you want the backend to send push notifications to a group of devices based on their geographical location?
In that case each device needs to register at startup with the notification service (Windows, Apple, Android, etc.), and get a handle, then register the information (along with its unique identification, such as account or phone number) with
Azure's notification hub. It also has to send its geographical location and the backend needs to keep this information somewhere (in a table, for example). The device needs to periodically update the backend for its new location. When the backend has the need
to send push notifications based on device's geographical location (based on a rectangular grid for example), then it has all the information to do it.

  • My calandar service (outlook) does, which keeps track of my reminders, does not allow location based reminders?

I cannot get Siri to setup a location reminder because of outlook. Can anyone tell me how to get around this?

    SOLUTION
I followed the advice on the link below and it worked.
The only additional thing I did was switch off the reminders in all of the other email accounts on my phone where they were activated.  I then tried the location based reminders and they worked. I then  switched the reminders back on again and the LBR *still* worked!
