Location Field and IPTC
Can anyone tell me what IPTC field LR uses for the Location field please? I tried the http://www.controlledvocabulary.com/imagedatabases/iptc_core_mapped.pdf link mentioned in other posts, but Location is not mapped to anything.
I am trying to use a photo gallery program called Gallery and they have a field caleld Sublocation which I have seen referred to as Location, but it is clear as mud to me!!!
It's sub-location. I use it as a higher level than city or when city is inappropriate (often true for my photography). For example, Yellowstone National Park.
Is it this gallery program that you are using?
http://gallery.menalto.com/
When I set up my galleries I couldn't get it to recognize location at all (sub-location). I read some fixes to get it to work but it never did. So I copy it to another field outside of LR and use that field. This may have been fixed, but when I was setting mine up people didn't seem to think a fix would come soon. I'm using Gallery 2.2. If you get location to work, I'd appreciate learning how!

Change of Search help for location field in report incident
Hi All,
i have added new fields Region,BSA in the report incident form .here based on the region entered in the search help the corresponding bsa have to be displayed in the search help of BSA .these are achieved customising the search help exit FM EHFND_SHLP_EXIT_F4_BOBF_QUERY.
similarly based on the BSA entered in the BSA field Location field search help should filter the values and display .the isues here are
1. the location field and search help attached are standard and they are being used in many instances .
2.when i click on the f4 help the control doesnt stop any where in the feeder class CL_EHHSS_INC_Q_LOC_UI_FRM of the form though i put the breakpoints .ie the event on enter locid is not getting triggered.
my question is where can i write the code to filter the values being displayed in the location search help.
Thanks&Regards
LuxmiHi Luxmi,
Dictionary-based search helps are triggered from directly within the WDA layer. Therefore, there is no callback from the FPM event loop. The filter would need to be implemented as an implicit enhancement of the aforementioned search help exit function.
Thanks,

RajivIn tcode U have to enter Transaction code VL01N
Transaction variants field just Press F4 to get already buid transaction variant else u have to create the ur screen variant by clicking the button named Create in Below menu option .
If the variant already exist -> enter
u will get the data in the lower half of the screen , select the transaction Variant with field for storage location , generally datais distributed in delivry doc at header and item level so for storage location u have to take the one with item level data .
There u will find the all the fields which are there in Delivery doc at item level with check boxes in front of them please goto storage location field and check the check box saying output field ( This means this field will be display only) Save and try and create the delivery again.

Outlook Calender: Location Field
It is fairly standard for calendar events to include a phone number (and with my company, a password/pin for a conference call). However, when my outlook calendar syncs wit my iPhone, the location field is not accessible on the iPhone and I am forced to grab a pen and write the number and then hand dial it. With my blackberry, i could click on the number in the location field and it would dial it. Help!
Hi finnce,
Could you please provide more information about your pc and handset details. Type *#0000# in your handset and give the result to the forum -
DAM: integrate/harmonize Collections, Keywords and IPTC location
Lightroom currently presents the user with two independent methods to assign photos to a hierarchical structure: collections and keywords. Unless I missed something, keywords do everything that collections do, and more.
In addition, there is one structure that is inherently hierarchical, but is not currently implemented as such: the IPTC (metadata) location. For instance, the city of Amsterdam lies in the province of North Holland in The Netherlands, so entering Amsterdam in the 'City' field implies a province and a country.
Based on these observations, I have a couple of suggestions:
* Enhance the usability of collections with a few of the keyword features: listing all assigned collections upon selection, and dragging collections onto photos to assign.
* Allow users to convert collection trees to keyword trees, and possibly back (convenient for import/export, or changing ones mind as to what paradigm to use).
* Allow users to either export a keyword tree to the IPTC location fields, or to make a dynamic link between the two (i.e. updating the keyword would immediately affect the location data). This feature would also require an 'exclusivity swith', see below.
* Introduce an 'exclusivity switch' for keywords or collections, implying that you may only assign *one* keyword in its sub-tree to any particular image. This makes sense for location, because an image was made in a particular location, but it can also be used other contexts. For example, to indicate where the latest version of a file has been backed up to, or what the status (imported, selected, processed, finished) of a file is.
* Introduce dynamic collections *and* dynamic keywords. I have read things about query-based dynamic collections coming to Lightroom, but please also create 'dynamic keywords'. This would allow keywords to remain the catch-all organization structure, instead of dividing functionality across collections and keywords.
I think these features could make a significant contribution to Lightroom's DAM capabilities. If implemented alongside improved search capabilities, they would allow me (and possibly others) to stop using my stand-alone DAM application.
SimonJohn, I had forgotten the fact that keywords do not have any output settings associated with them, unlike collections. I support your idea of indicating which collections have these settings attached to them.
Still, except for this point, keywords can currently be made to do the same things that collections do. You can even keep them private by choosing not to export certain keywords. Note that even though this is the case, I do not ask for the abolishment of collections per se, because it is convenient to maintain the *conceptual* difference (in addition to the output metadata in collections).
On the locations, I don't think the 'problem' is solved simply by exporting the location data to a keyword tree. It's the other direction that would greatly speed up the workflow. For example, dragging Amsterdam (potentially one of many Amsterdams) onto an image, would automatically assign the higher level fields as well. A metadata preset would indeed do the same, but only after one has created such a preset for every location, which can quickly add up.
Also, I did not mean to imply that dynamic keywords would be beneficial for keeping track of the location metadata. In general, dynamic categories (collections or keywords) are very useful for saving searches or keeping track of an internal workflow (like: if an image is not in a backup collection, it is not backed up). Specifically, I can imagine someone wanting to couple a search result to an exported keyword. For example, for a personal website or a Flickr account, you may want to tag images with the keyword '5stars' that is automatically generated.
The way I see it, there is currently no real difference in the logical structures that can be constructed using collections and keywords. The distinctions between the two are in the input or output phase. It would be a shame to see the logical capabilities of collections enhanced with 'smart' collections, whilst leaving keywords behind.
By the way, I'm all for a scripting interface, but I think that it's best to get the basics implemented in the right way first.
Simon
PS - You pointed out the existence of custom fields as a workflow solution. I have no experience with them, and don't have access to Lightroom on this machine, so I'll get back on that later. -
IPTC location fields - best practices?
Lightroom offers various location-related data - Scene, Location, City, State/Province, Country, ISO Country Code.
Country and State/Province are usually straightforward. In a major city, City is also obvious, and for Location I typically enter a street name or street/cross-street.
Elsewhere, things aren't so obvious. For example, I shot some pictures recently in a village with about 200 inhabitants: is that a city, or a location? Other pictures were taken between villages in a large river valley. Should I enter the name of the valley ("Wakhan Valley") as 'City'? What about shots taken on a major road? Would the name of the road ("Pamir Highway") count for City or Location?
And what to enter for 'Scene'? And should ISO Country Code use 2-letter, 3-letter or numeric values?
Does anyone have any advice to offer on these points, or pointers to industry guidelines?
Thank you,
AngusFor industry guidelines, go directly to the IPTC organization. At the following link, download the IPTC Core PS Panel file (along the right side of the page), unzip the file, and look at the pdf for a description of how the various fields are generally used.
http://www.iptc.org/IPTC4XMP/
Of course, you can use them any way you wish. What you've described is most commom. Since Countries, States, and Cities are all political subdivisions (arbitrary man-made boundaries), I generally limit their use to just that. The village you described fits this criteria, so in my collection, I would use the City field. I broadly view the City field as being the smallest political subdivision that we use to govern ourselves (just my definition).
The Location field, on the other hand, could be most anything defined politically, geographically, or otherwise. The IPTC standard suggests using only the Location field, leaving City blank, should you be on a mountain top in the middle of nowhere. Personally, I usually fill in the closest City to the location I'm at, but that might not be what the New York Times or other media outlets would do. I recently took some shots on board a flight at over the Gulf of Mexico - had to really scratch my head on how I wanted to fill in the IPTC fields. Made me wonder what NASA does.
Hope this helps, Gary -
Storage Location Wise Stock Value field and Table
Hi ,
Please let me know the storage location wise stock value field and table.
Regards
SureshHi Suresh,
As per my understanding it is not possible in a single Table.
If this is required for customized Z report then use this logic it may gives the correct information.
In the combination of MARD and MBEW.. From MBEW you can get the value for each Base Unit of Measure then multiply that value with storage location stock.
It may usefull to u..in the mean time i will try for some other option.
Please revert if u have any query.

Unable to update Requester and Deliver to location field in iProcurement
Hi,
I am unable to update the 'Requester' and 'Deliver to location' field in iProcurement Preferences.
i am trying to change the default settings in IProcurement Prefernces(MyProfile page(xml))
1)Navigation ->iProcurement Hompage->Preferences->iProcurement Preferences
2)Modified Requester and Deliver-to-location and clicked Apply changes
3)Logged Out and again logged In. the changes are gone. Its showing me the old data.
Please help..if someone faced this issue..
I am using Oracle 11.5.10.
TIA.Hi TIA,
check out the profile options:
ICX: Override Location Flag or POR: Override Location Flag
ICX: Override Requestor or POR: Override Requestor
The naming varies in the manual compared to my test-environment. Flipping this did the trick for me!
They control whether a user is allowed to override the default requestor and the deliver-to location in the requisition and apparently also the preferences.
The following profile options holds the values set by a user in the preferences as per your requirement:
POR : Preferences - Deliver to Location
Enables requesters to set their preferred deliver-to location.
POR : Preferences - Requester
Enables requesters to set a default requester

How add to Bin location From and to fields in PLD
Hi Guys,
I have been trying to add bin locations fields "from" and "to" represented in the inventory transfer in order to see from which bin its being transferred as well as to. I cant seem to find the data of the bin location
in any of the bin location tables. Please can you assist.
Kind Regards,
Kennedy TsambaHmm, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. The field name is SPART in table MARA. It has a "to" "from" selection option.
I've tried:
CLEAR <SPART>[].
but I get the message that field "<SPART.[]" is unknown and that it's not in one of the tables (it is).
So then I tried:
CLEAR <MARA-SPART>[].
but I get the message that the field "<MARA" is uknown, but there is a field with the similar name "MARA".
I've tried various combinations since then, but each one produces an error message. The only way I can avoid a syntax error is to type:
CLEAR MARA-SPART.
but then it doesn't work anyway.
I'm sure it's very simple, but I'm really stumped.

Aperture 3 - Face recognition and IPTC
I just upgrade my library from AP2 to AP3 and I was trying to use the face recognition feature.
I've got 2 questions regarding this feature:
1- Is anybody know if AP write the names enter with the face function in an IPTC field or if this info is proprietary to AP?
2- In AP2 I used to write the name of the people in the KeyWord IPTC field. Can we copy automatically (with a script for example) the values of the KeyWord field in the "face" field?
Re-writting all the names on all the pictures of my library will be very painful, so I try to find a fast way to do it. If any of you already found a way to do it, it will be very helpful.
Thanksright questions
I am also searching for a solution to:
- write the locations to the IPTC-fields
- write the "faces" to IPTC-keywords

Location, keywords and geotagging
I've read that many people don't recommend to use keywords for location, since the IPTC location fields are for that.
How do you people use that? The reasons I ask are two:
1) Adding a location, city, state/province and country in the ITPC fields means I have to type in all those four, whereas if I have those in a keyword hierarchy entering the location is enough as the parents are added automatically.
2) When exporting to Flickr, Smugmug etc., how do people find photos by location if there are no tags for location?
The other question is how you geotag your photos? Picasa for example has a way to open selected photos in Google Earth to set their location and save it to the metadata. Do I need to use an external application to set these coordinates?
Thanks!
/DanielSverre, yes that's why I think entering location data to the IPTC fields require more work than I am ready to put into it (or I will get more and more behind with keywording my photos because of the time it takes...).
Dorin, that's great that Flickr automatically creates tags from some of the Location fields. Unfortunately Smugmug doesn't seem to do the same...
I'm thinking geotagging might be the way to go, that is using Google Earth to set the coordinates for the photo, as it then will show where on a map the photo was taken. Works with Smugmug for example, as well as PicasaWeb if Lightroom users use that (I do, since it's so easy for newbies to navigate galleries).
But that requires me to open the folder with the exported photos in Picasa and set the longitude and latitude in Google Earth from there. I guess there's no easier way to add those data from Lightroom? -
Is there a document that identifies which fields in Photoshop and Illustrator "file info" map to the corresponding IPTC field and XMP field repectivly. Also, if I enter a value in a field that is represented in both standards will both fields be populated in the image file?
Regards
ChrisThe 'File Info' in Photoshop since version 3.0 is stored in numerous places in a given file for various formats.
On the Macintosh, some information is stored in the resource fork for any file format:
The keywords are stored in a 'KeyW' resource and the caption is stored in a 'TEXT' resource. These resources are referenced by the 'pnot' resource. This information is readable by Aldus Fetch (now Extensis Portfolio). For more information on the format of these resources see:
Inside Machintosh: QuickTime Components
Aldus Fetch Awareness Developer's Toolkit
All of the data from File Info is stored in an 'ANPA 1000' resource. The data in this resource is stored as an IPTC-IIM version 2, record 2. For more information on the format of this resource see:
"Information Interchange Model (IIM) version 4"
Available online at:

On all platforms, the IIM is also stored in the data fork of the file. For file formats that can support Photoshop's image resources the data is stored as an image resource '1028' (kCaptionID) in IPTC-IIM record 2 format.
For TIFF files the caption data is stored in an image description tag '270' and all the information is stored as an IPTC-NAA record 2 in tag '33723' the tag number was chosen by inspecting files written by Iron Mike software, and is supposed to be defined in a Rich TIFF specification that I haven't been able to track down. The tag is also specified in:
NSK TIFF
The Japan Newspaper Publishers & Editors Association
Nippon Press Center Building
2-2-1 Uchlsaiwai-cho
Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo 100
For more information about the TIFF format see:
"TIFF Revision 6.0"
Available online at:
In reading the files, the following order is used with information read
lower on the list replacing information read higher:
* kCaptionID image resource
* For old Photoshop files, the caption data is read from the image resource '1008' (kOldCaptionID) or '1020' (kPrintCaptionID) (it cannot appear in both). Old PrintCaption data could coinside with caption data in some beta releases in this case the print caption data is ignored.
[NOTE version 3.0 and 3.0.1: Print caption was appended to the caption
information but this caused duplicate captions in TIFF files. This bug was fixed for version 3.0.2]
* Image Description Tag (TIFF only)
* IPTC-NAA Tag (TIFF only)
[NOTE version 3.0 and 3.0.1: TIFF data did not override the previous image resources. This bug was fixed for version 3.0.2.]
* 'pnot' resource related data (keywords and caption) (Mac only)
* 'ANPA' resource (Mac only)
[Additions for Photoshop 7.0]
* XMP Data - The kCaptionID image resource is written out with a digest
signature. The digest is re-generated from the above information when
a file is opened. If the digest doesn't match then the XMP information
for properties that that are contained by the kCaptionID resource
(IIM records, photoshop:WebStatement, and photoshop:Marked) are
dropped from the XMP Data. Otherwise, the XMP Data takes precedence over all previous data.
NOTE: The TIFF information comes prior to the image resource information on this list. This means that an edit to the TIFF info will not be recognized unless the image resource information is removed.

Designates the date the intellectual content of the document was created rather than the date of the creation of the physical representation. (4) Not aliased in Photoshop 7.0 due to bug in XMP.
