Location of an mdb file

I have a database that I created in Access 97. I am usting
IIS for my test server. Should I upload the actual database ti the
test server or leave it in another folder?
Thanks again

while working locally you can have it in another folder but i
suggest to
move to the local server specially if later you'll move the
application
to a remote one
many hostings has a folder named Data where you can store
file-based DB
like Access

  • Problems locating my .mdb file

I have a SQL server with tables I use in my reports. I was handed an access DB (.mdb file) on a flash drive and told to incorporate that data into my reports along side the data from the tables on the SQL server.
The guy that set up the tables and the server is no longer at my company so we have no idea where we need to put this .mdb file so that Crystal Reports can access it. Our reports are run by users outside of our office via a VPN so the file cannot be local but on the server. We have put it on the SQL server in many different places/folders but when I use the database expert in CR and try to create a new ODBC(RDO) conection the .mdb file is not listed.
Does anyone know where this file should be located??

    Aminah,
Since you were handed the .mdb file on a thumb drive, it's probably a safe bet that all of the data on it is now static (no longer being updated by users).  Based on that, I would use Access's Upsizing Wizard to migrate the data to your SQL server.
You will see MUCH better performance from your report and you will not have to worry about report users or CR Server having access to the network share file where you would otherwise have to place the .mdb file.
If you don't have write access to your SQL server, ask your network admin of DBA for help on this.

  • Powershell script to search a network drive for .mdb files and export them to CSV file

    Hello all,
I'm trying to search one of our network drives for old .mdb files, I want to write the name, location and date last modified to a csv file.
    Get-WmiObject -Class CIM_DataFile -Filter "Drive='S:' And Extension='mdb'
     AND ObjFile.drive
     AND objFile.FileName
     AND objFile.FileSize
     AND objFile.LastWriteTime" |
    Export-CSV c:\mdb_search\mdbfiles.csv\
Obviously this isn't working or I wouldn't be posting.  I've tried many different examples from the net with no joy for now.
Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Thanks, that did the job.
    Cheers, you're welcome.
How do I get the powershell cursor to return to C:> ?
Should I use "exit" or "break" ?
Neither, the console will return to a prompt when the search has been completed.

  • Launching Microsoft Access from Internet Explorer to view a downloaded MDB file opens the wrong file (not a problem if I use Firefox)

When clicking on a link (in Internet Explorer 9) to download an Access MDB file and then choosing to open the file directly in Microsoft Access (2007) instead of saving it, the file is copied to Temporary Internet Files but Microsoft Access tries to open
a different file and displays an (Unrecognized database format) error.
When I click on the option to open the file, the MDB file is copied to Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5 but instead of that file, Access tries to open a different (incorrect) file located in Temporary Internet Files\Content.MSO (e.g. in the above error
message, NativeView.do is an XML file containing an error message).
I don't see this problem with Word, Excel or PowerPoint files. When opening a Word file (without saving) the Word file is copied to Content.IE5 but an identical .tmp file is created in Content.MSO which when opened in Microsoft Word displayed the required file
correctly. The same happens for Excel files. PowerPoint appears to be handled a little differently (no .tmp file created in Content.MSO but the required file is still copied to Content.IE5) but the PPT file is still opened correctly in Microsoft PowerPoint.
I think the Content-Type "application/msaccess" is fine because Internet Explorer does launch Microsoft Access. It just tries to open the wrong file (or so I think). However, it looks like the file type is not being determined. Here is what I noticed
when trying to open different Microsoft Office files using Internet Explorer:
The last one is the MDB file. As you can see, only for this type of file, the "Type" (Microsoft Office Access 2007?) is not displayed in this Open/Save dialog box.
On Firefox, I don't see this problem. When I tried clicking on the link to the MDB file in Firefox, Microsoft Access was launched and the file was opened correctly. Is there something I can do so the MDB file is opened properly using IE? I can add/change headers
in the HTTP response that writes this file to the output stream (on disk) if that helps.
    Thanks for your time!

Sounds like a problem symptom to be discussed in either an IE forum or an Access forum, not here.  How did you come to post here?  ForumsRedesign.  That might be an on-topic issue for this forum.  <eg>
Can you find your way to either of those other forums easily from here?  Another on-topic question for here I think.   ; )

  • Merge mdb files

Hi I have multiple mdb files and would like to merge them into one file. All the tables are exactly the same. Is there a Labview vi that can do this? or can you assist?

Firstly, I would recommend that you start using an actual database. Anything, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, is going to handle larger data sets much better.
The sort of maintenance routine you need would not be exposed by normal SQL commands. The Access ide might have something but I haven't used it many years. If it's a one time effort, search the Microsoft forums. To do it all with SQL, I believe you would have to read with a select * and write that to a new db.
Consider a longer term solution for storing and archiving. At one location, I kept 3 months of complete test results and just pass/fail for the historic data. Using SQL Server, the database was at least as big as yours (several years worth) but I never saw any slowdowns. The schema was highly modified and extremely normalized from the default NI design.

  • Mdb file vs. accdb file

I am a brand new user of Crystal Reports.  We recently upgraded to Access 2007 and quickly discovered that no longer have access to our Crystal reports in our database.  We were told that our old version of Crystal doesn't communicate with our new version of Access.  So, we upgraded Crystal to 2008 and I continue to get the following error message:
    Logon failed.
    Details: DAO Error Code: 0xd0f
    Source: DAO.Workspace
    Description: Unrecognized database format 'S:\Data\Databases\Project\ProjectDatabase.accdb'.
It doesn't seem to recognize the new accdb file and instead looks for the old mdb file which no longer exists.
    Any suggestions are much appreciated.
    Sherry

    Hi Sherry,
The DAO technology cannot be used to access the Microsoft Office 2007 file formats: Microsoft Access 2007 .accdb, Microsoft Excel 2007 .xlsx (XML) and .xlsb (Binary). These file formats are supported using the Microsoft 2007 Office System drivers for ODBC and OLEDB.
I suggest that to download and install the u201CAccessDatabaseEngineu201D to work with MS Office 2007.
    Resolution:
    1.Go to the following link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7554F536-8C28-4598-9B72-EF94E038C891&displaylang=en
2.Download the u201CAccessDatabaseEngine.exeu201D and install it.
3.Create a new ODBC DSN to your database before you set the data source location.
First create a Data Source Name
Note: Please note that you have to use Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb, *.accdb) as driver for connecting the database.
4.After creating the DSN, I suggest you to set the data source location in that report.
I suggest that refer to u2018Crystal Reports Online Help (F1)u2019 for information on how to set datasource location in Crystal Reports 2008.
Please ensure that you need to u2018Verify Databaseu2019 immediately after setting datasource location for the report. In order to do u2018Verify Databaseu2019 from Crystal Reports, please follow the steps given below:
    1.Go to u2018Databaseu2019 menu | u2018Verify Databaseu2019
2.A message stating u2018Database is up to dateu2019 would appear.
    Now refresh the report.
    Hope this helps.

How can I locate my iTunes library files?  When I click on my iTunes icon rather than my iTunes files I receive, " The file iTunes Library.itl." cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes."  I have already tried to update my iTunes program.

Had same problem and solved it without having to reinstore any music or movies:
    1. Delete old Library file
    2. Go to the 'Previous iTunes Libraries' folder and copy one of the earlier files - note, they have a date extension, e.g. 'iTunes Library 2011-11-01'.
    3. Paste this file in your iTuners folder and rename file by removing the date extension -  'iTunes Library'
You should have all your music and paylists in tact, unless it was a really old previous file.

  • My experience of location of the control file

Just learn bad experience by putting control file on a remote server.
My original idea with the remote drive was to spread out th risk of losing all control files on the same location. But with one on remote drive it means
    1. That remote server has to be always on. I can not shut it down for other purpose especially when the remote server is my test server.
    2. My current oracle home was setup with a link directory from one drive to another local drive (by a previous Contractor). BAD for the startup if using the pfile. I have to include the total path of the pfile, even the init. ora file is in the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, when I use modified pfile to startup.
    ex startup pfile='/total_path/init.ora'
however I can use below to create a new init.ora file that saves into the $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
    create pfile='init.ora' from spfile;
So I am going to change the location of my control file to one of the local drives, just different to that of other control files.
This is my 2 cents opinion. Welcome any comments. Thanks.

I think I can move second copy of redo log back to the server but at different hd when the Oracle is running. right?
by dropping the inactive one group and recreate the group while other current group is on. But very becareful
( I have practiced on my test machine to drop one member, but 10g does not allow)
I configured the flash_recovery to the drive where also store one copy of the archivelog. Since there is not much space left one other two drives, so I put other copy of the archivelog on a remote server.

  • Cannot OpenDatabase (MSAccess mdb file) using VB6 code on windows8 64 bit machine using office 2013.

I have a "mdb" file which is created long back in MSAccess 97 or 2000. I am using Office 2013.
When I tried to open the mdb file from my application using below code written in VB6, It works fine in Windows 7 64 bit machine but It is not working in Windows 8 64 bit machine.
If I use office 2010 again same code works fine in both Windows 7 and 8 64 bit machines.
    Set gWork = DBEngine.CreateWorkspace("", "admin", "", dbUseJet)
    Set gCache = gWork.OpenDatabase(DataPath & fFilePath & "\connec00.mdb")
I have a referenced "Microsoft DAO 3.51 Object Library" for the code.
I tried changing it to "Microsoft DAO 3.6 Object Library" also but still the problem is not resolved.
Can anyone please help me in figuring this out ??

    Dear Bruce,
    Thanks for your reply.
Code was written in VB6. My VB6 application will try to open a "connec00.mdb" file and will read the data in it for displaying in the application.
For opening the database by the application the code was written like below
    On Error GoTo Herr
    Set gWork = DBEngine.CreateWorkspace("", "admin", "", dbUseJet)
FLog.Addlog "File exists: Connecting to database..."
    Set gCache = gWork.OpenDatabase(DataPath & fFilePath & "\connec00.mdb")
    Herr:
    FLog.Addlog "Error(Class_Initialize - DataConnector): " + Err.Description + " in " + Err.Source + Chr(10) + Chr(13) + "Init: Going on execution..."
If I manually open the "mdb" file both in windows 7 64 bit and windows 8 64 bit using MSAccess 2013, I will get  the error
"cannot open a database created with previous version of your application".
    On Windows 7 64 bit
Through my VB6 code the mdb file is opened (does not launch MSAccess) by my application and reading is done perfectly which inturns helps the application to display the data in the mdb file. (even though manually if I cannot open)
    On Windows 8 64 bit
Through my VB6 code the mdb file is not able to open the database by my application.
It is going to Herr: part when it tries comes to that "OpenDatabase" step and it prints nothing in the log (Err.Description )also.
(This is seen only for Windows 8 64 bit) . In Windows 7 64 bit Herr part does not even hit.
Configuration wise I have checked both are same. Please let me know in case of furthur clarification or anything if I miss..
    Thanks for your co-operation.

  • How do i find the location of Oracle password file in the HDD

we giv the location of the password file while we use the orapwd command to create one.
later if we forget the location of the password file (incase it is not at the default location) then is there a way to find it or do we just create a new password file?
secondly, for oracle to use the password file we giv the remote_login_passwordfile='EXCLUSIVE' in the parameter file. wat tells oracle the location of the exact password file??
    Thanks
    Arvind
Edited by: iinfi on Sep 29, 2008 12:15 AM

The default location are OS dependant.
On Unix/Linus it is under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
On Windows, it is under %ORACLE_HOME%/database
To change the default location, nothing inside database, but :
On Unix/Linux, you have to create a symbolic link for that file to the target location
On Windows, you have to change env variable (regedit) ORA_PWFILE and ORA_SID_PWFILE
So, you have to check this setting for the real password file location.

    Hello,
how to import a table which is in mdb file(same table in different mdb's)
e.g. table 'EMPLOYEE' is in 'test.mdb' the same table 'EMPLOYEE' is in 'current.mdb'
How this can be done on click of a button on my form if the path of mdb is provided?

This question is not related with ora dev forms, its about Microsoft Access.
Use import option (File >> Get External Data >> Import)
    or use TransferDatabase action.

After "Restoring iTunes Library backup" it wont link to the files in the iTunes folder. I've followed the procedure as described, and the iTunes folder is in the correct location. iTunes lists all my music correctly (albeit with no artwork), but can't locate any of the files.
I've been restoring my iTunes folder from a backup hard drive to a new computer on which I've downloaded the latest iTunes (10.7). If this is a newer version than the one I backed up with could this be the problem? (I had the latest (to my knowledge) iTunes when I backed up the folder about 3 weeks ago, was this version 10.7?)
Or is the version of iTunes (within recent updates) not an issue when restoring a library?
    Using Windows 7.
    Any help please?

From the top of the page where the scripts live...
The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection. Many of the scripts can optionally display a progress bar while running.
You are strongly advised to backup your entire library, or at the very least the iTunes Library.itl file, before use. Test the behaviour of your chosen script on a small group of files first to make sure it does what you want before applying it to large numbers of files.
Most builds of Windows will execute *.vbs scripts when you double-click them. If that doesn't happen then you might need to visit the Add/Remove Programs or Programs & Features control panel to enable the Windows Scripting Host. I can track down details if you have issues.
Backing up and restoring data is an area that is often glossed over. Most people don't try to learn much about it until they've lost something important. (Me too )
If your iTunes library was in the usual layout then normally copying the whole iTunes folder from the User's Music folder in the old computer to the User's Music folder in the new one will usually work fine. Ideally this is done before iTunes is installed so that there is no empty library to replace, and all settings are picked up from the old library. This post contains more details.
