Location of bookmarks file in mac os 10.6

I need to know where in mac os 10.6, does the bookmarks file reside?

Go to '''Help > Troubleshooting Information''', then click on '''Show in Finder'''. That will open the Finder in your Firefox profile. Your bookmarks are history are in a file called '''places.sqlite'''. There's also a daily JSON backup of your bookmarks in the folder called ''bookmarkbackups''.

can you convert a favourites file from windows to a bookmark file for mac?

I can't answer for Internet Explorer but you should be able to export Bookmarks from FireFox. If you can't export from IE you may be able to import from EI to FireFox first.
In FireFox, menu BookMarks>Organize Bookmarks, then in the pane which opens, menu File>Export (that's how it works on Linux so Windows should be broadly similar). The result should be an html file.
You may be able to import this into Safari on your Mac; certainly you should be able to import it into FireFox and perhaps from there to Safari if necessary.

  • I'm having trouble locating my bookmark files in a Time Machine backup.

In approx Oct 2011 I completed a backup before having some work done on my MacBook. I wish to reinstall the Bookmarks from this backup but I am unable to locate them. I have been looking for Profiles under the Library ( per the suggestion at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20your%20information#w_locate-your-profile-folder) but there is no Firefox folder although there is a Mozilla folder. My MacBook has OS X Lion 10.7.3 installed.
    I would appreciate any suggestions.

    Hi cor-el and thanks,
I have followed the helpful instructions you gave me but without success (although you have brought my attention to hidden files). My problem seems to be (as mentioned in my first post) that I cannot locate a 'Firefox' folder on my backup disk although I can see a "Mozilla' folder. If I use any of the 'go to' shortcuts it takes me to the Firefox folder on my MacBook (hard drive) and not the locations on my passport drive (where I expect to find my old Bookmarks). Could it be that the "Firefox' folder on my passport is 'hidden' and if so, how can I 'find' it without the search function looking on my hard-drive? Is there a preference to 'unhide' folders?
Would appreciate hearing more from you. Your instructions are clear and very helpful. Sorry I didn't follow this up sooner. Kind regards,

  • Location of .ste files on Mac OSX 10.5.6

I replaced my hard drive, and had some isses with the way my Adobe apps loaded. I cleaned out the Web Premium CS3 files and reloaded CS3.
I have backup files of my startup volume, but don't know where to look for the SITE DEFINITION FILES (.ste).
I have all of the SiteCache files which were separately protected and saved on an auxiliary drive, but I have been trying to recreate my SITE MANAGEMENT PROFILES for two days now, without success.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,

You can't do that. You either need to Import the sites from the .ste files that you originally exported, or if you didn't export the .ste files, you need to replace the Site Prefs file on your new installation with the one recovered from the hard disk backup.
If you didn't create .ste files yourself and don't have a backup of the Site Prefs file, you need to redefine all the sites manually.

  • How do I find the bookmarks file when I can not load the application? I.e., I can not get to the library.

My laptop died. The hard drive is in a case and accessible. It is connected to a 10 year old Pentium. How can I retrieve the bookmarks file from the Laptops drive when I can not load Firefox from that drive? I.e., I can not get to the library on the Laptop drive. I do have full access to it.

You can locate main bookmarks file, '''places.sqlite''', for restoration in another Firefox install, in your profile directory.
Since you profile is on another hard drive, the normal shortcuts to find it won't work.
On Windows XP, you can find the profile here:
    ''C:''\Documents and Settings\''Windows login/user name''\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\''xxxxxxxx.default''
    Where:
    * C:\ is replaced by the drive letter you mounted the laptop drive on.
    * Windows login/username is replaced with your windows user name you used on that hard drive.
    * xxxxxxxx.default is replaced with 8 random characters followed by .default, and should be the only folder in Profiles.
Once you've found the old profile, you can copy files over to a new profile. See https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Profiles#How_to_find_your_profile and [[Recovering important data from an old profile]] for other files you may want to restore.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

  • I do not keep my bookmarks on the boot drive. WHere is the bookmarks file located and how do I move it in Firefox 8,0,?

What is the name of the bookmaks file in Firefox 8.0.1?

    Hi,
The '''places.sqlite''' file in your [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] stores the bookmarks and the history. This is what you see in '''Bookmarks''' ('''Alt''' + '''B''') and '''History''' ('''Alt''' + '''S''') or in the window of '''Show All History''' ('''Ctrl''' + '''Shift''' +'''H''') and '''Show All Bookmarks''' ('''Ctrl''' + Shift + '''B'''). The '''bookmarkbackups''' folder in your profile contains dated backups of just the bookmarks which shows up in '''Import and Backup''' > '''Restore''' section of the '''Show All History''' / '''Show All Bookmarks''' window.

  • I want to change the file location for the automatic backup file bookmarks.file, but I can't find browser.bookmarks.file in the list on the about:config page.

I asked about automatic backup of bookmarks and received the following answer:You can make Firefox 3 create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML] to true on the about:config page. That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file browser.bookmarks.file] on the about:config page. • How can I do automatic backup of Firefox bookmarks? What is the name of the bookmarks file and where is it probably located in Windows?

I want to back up Firefox bookmarks automatically. I know that Firefox has manual bookmark export and bookmark. Can it be automatic? If not I will use backup software to do it, but I need to know the name of the bookmark file and where it is located on my hard drive. .

Firefox stores both bookmarks and browsing history in the file '''places.sqlite''' in the Firefox profile folder . On Windows 7, the Firefox profile folder location is something like:
C:\Users\"your username"\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\'''xxxxxxxx.default''' but this location is hidden by default. See [[Profiles]] for help finding the profile folder.
Firefox bookmarks are already backed up automatically.
The bookmark backups are stored as dated .json files in the Firefox profile folder, under the subfolder, '''bookmarkbackups'''. You can restore a bookmark backup file using the information here:
    *[[Backing up and restoring bookmarks]]

  • Use of browser.bookmarks.file in about:config to back up bookmarks file at location of my choice.

I want to Firefox to do automatic backup of the bookmarks file. It saves the file in the Firefox Profiles folder. To have it save the file in My Documents, I created the following new preference:;C:\Users\Gerry\Documents\BOOKMARKS. However, the bookmarks file was not saved at this location when I exited Firefox. I tried adding a filename to the preference: browser.bookmarks.file;C:\Users\Gerry\Documents\BOOKMARKS\Firefox bookmarks.html. It still didn’t save the bookmarks file at this location. How do I do it? How do I specify both the new file name and the path? The following is earlier correspondence.
Answer to question: How can I do automatic backup of Firefox bookmarks? What is the name of the bookmarks file and where is it probably located in Windows?
You can make Firefox 3 create an automatic HTML backup (bookmarks.html) when you exit Firefox if you set the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML browser.bookmarks.autoExportHTML] to true on the about:config page.
That backup is created by default in the profile folder as bookmarks.html, but you can set the file name and path via the pref [http://kb.mozillazine.org/browser.bookmarks.file browser.bookmarks.file] on the about:config page.
Note: an HTML backup doesn't preserve tags and annotations, so you lose those if you need to import the HTML backup.
