Location of cache folder

Whenever I use Lightroom to view an image a cacheXXXXXXXXXXXX.dat file is placed in the directory C:\Documents and Settings\My account\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache. This is rather annoying, since my C drive is kept rather small while only containing essential programs.
I tried very hard but unsuccessfully to find a way to change the location of this cache folder. Any help would be appreciated very much.
I use Lightroom 1.4 and Photoshop Elements 6 for Windows XP Pro.
Best regards,
Henri

Jukka,
Thanks so much. I did not find a preferences.xmp anywhere on my system, but the solution was found in the thread you directed me to. I made the index.dat file in the cache directory "read only", which prevents cache files being written into that directory. I did not observe any negative effects to the speed of Lightroom. The good thing is that I do not have to worry about space on my C-drive anymore.
Thanks again.
Best regards,
Henri

  • After Effects Cache Folder location keeps changing

    Hello -
We have a non-traditional set up for After Effects at our network.  We have five HP Z800s and two HP Z820s that are primarily accessed through Windows Remote Log In.  Each user (we have 25) has a unique user name and password.
The first time the user logs on to After Effects they set up their cache location to a specified folder labeled AE CACHE on one of the computer's drives (not the C Drive which just holds applications.)  This allows us to media manage each machine by just deleting the contents in the Cache folder once a week.
Over the past six to twelve months or so we have noticed that users' cache location change from that D: drive back to their user folder within the C Drive.  This obviously quickly and dangerously fills up the C Drive.  I am using WinDirStat to go through the C Drive finding cache that was moved to the C Drive.
I can't explain it.  I've had editors raise the amount of Cache that can be stored to the drive, deleted the Cache folder and created a new one and tried a different location...yet every once in a while a users cache folder returns to the C Drive.  It's not every user either, some haven't had any issues.
I understand we are in a unique situation with our remote log in, but if anyone has encountered anything like this and found a solution I'd really appreciate hearing about it.  I'm at a loss.
    Thank you.

Chris is right. My library is also stored on NAS. ALWAYS make sure drive is mounted to OS before starting iTunes. I made a shortcut on desktop to open Windows Explorer to the NAS. This ensures drive is mapped and waken up from sleep.

  • Cache Folder Location?

Where is the location that I can find my cache folder and go through the files in it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Mark
I'd read here and here that Leopard's Safari cache was in a a different format & slightly different location.... ( even hidden away outside the user folders sometimes)
Filejuicer & Retrospective both allow browsing of the Safari cache with 10.4.x & are a great deal easier than sifting through it manually. I've no idea if they'll work with Safari 3.0.4 on Leopard. ( edit - I see Retrospective doesn't; Filejuicer says it does )

  • How can I delete the contents in Cache.Trash folder (not the normal Cache folder)?

Recently, I keep receiving notice of "Hard Disk is Full - You have run out of disk space on drive C. To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Clean-up". But after I removed a substantial sizes of files to another drive, in a short while, the notice reappear again. I was puzzled and take a check on the files and folders in drive C and realized the problem came from those unknown files in the folder named Cache.Trash (not the normal Cache folder although they are located side by side). Some files sizes are shockingly large ranging from 2GB to 5GB. They have strange and difficult to identify File Name and File Types. When I checked the Properties of those files, they have unknown MS-DOS name, Created, Modified and Accessed dates. When I tried to delete those files directly, a notice of "Error Deleting File: Cannot delete file: File system error (1026)" appeared. Note: There are still many Free Space available in other disk drives. Any idea please?

There is no session crash here. On others start, the Cache.Trash folder and its contents still there. When a ScanDisk program is performed, after some time, a notice appeared, "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable ScanDisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning?" So I closed any other running application and program and restart the ScanDisk program again. After some time, the notice appeared again. I clicked No to indicate do not want to continue receiving this warning and the program keep repeating running.....how long will the program take?

  • New Tab Page - thumbnails are not using the files from cache folder, but they want a connection to their origin website.

    Hi there,
each time I visit a website, FireFox saves a thumbnail of all these sites for the "New Tab Page". Those thumbnails are cached in the 'thumbnails' Folder . That's so far ok for me.
    The problem is:
Every time if I use the "New Tab Page" (...after shutdown & reopening the browser and only with 'mousehoover' on any thumbnail) all the thumbnails on that page don't use the cached thumbnails from the local profile folder.
    This means:
Instead of using the cached thumbnail-files all(!) these thumbnails dials to their origin websites without(!) a mouseclick on any of these thumbnails (...see jpg pictures) !
I'm using the "Clear history when Firefox closes" with the following options:
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.history - false(!)
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings - false(!)
So, i can't believe that this homedialing of pinned and unpinned thumbnails should be a normal function.
    1. Screenshot: thumbnails in the New Tab Page
    2. Screenshot: the same thumbnails in the Cache Folder "thumbnails" (...also they are there after shutdown of Firefox)
    3. Screenshot: Dialing to the origin websites (...after restart of Firefox)
The Browser Version is Firefox ESR 31.2.0 and in the installation are no Add-ons, which are - for example - prefetching linked websites.
I would like to use the "New Tab Page" without 'homedialing', so the question is:
How can I force the thumbnails to use the cached thumbnail-files ?
    or
How can i disable the 'loading of content from their origin websites' already on mousehoover ?

There is a preload pref available that you could try to disable on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *browser.newtab.preload = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Can't choose cache folder in Bridge CS6 on a different drive/partition

    Hi,
I just installed Photoshop CS6 and noticed a non-critical, but nevertheless annoying problem in Bridge (Platform: Win7 x64):
When I try to relocate the cache folder (Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Cache -> Location, then pressing the button "Choose"), the path selection dialog that pops up is actually incomplete.
That is, it doesn't show all my drives. In fact, it doesn't show ANY paritions. It just defaults to the usual user home directory (on partition C: ), but won't show (and hence: won't let me select) any other partition. To be more precise: The root folder of the tree shown is the "Desktop" folder in my user home directory - and that's all there is.
Since there is no field were I could enter (type) the path directly, I'm basically stuck with having my cache on C: now. Which isn't the place where I want it. (I have not enough disk space there)
    For comparison:
In Bridge CS5, the same dialog is working as expected: I.e. when I scroll down, I can also see other partitions, and choose a path somewhere on, say, drive F:
BTW: I also noticed this same behaviour with the CS6 beta, but wasn't concerned then, because - well... it was just a beta, and I thought that somehting as obvious as this would be fixed by the time the final version comes out... :-/
Is there any other way to set the cache path?
Should I file a bug report?
Before someone asks: Yes, I deinstalled the beta before installing the final PS CS6, and yes, everything else seems to work as it should.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    Regards,
    Manuel
P.S.: If needed, I can supply screenshots of the dialog in question.

Thanks for your continuing suggestions, Curt,
The date of the document you included is 2006, so it is way out of date.
    Mmmh, I can only see:
    /Last updated
    2011-06-30/
While that's not brand new (and doesn't explicitely mention CS6), it's
significantly newer than 2006 and it's the exact same page that comes up
when you open Bridge's help window and search for "reset". Other pages like
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2009/10/resetting_bridges_preferences.html
    and
    http://planetphotoshop.com/resetting-bridges-preferences.html
also concur that it's CTRL-ALT-SHIFT - which is what I used to
    successfully reset the settings.
But let's stop talking about what's the proper way to reset Bridge's
preferences and get back to the actual topic:
In preferences/startup scripts do you have checks for at least Bridge
    and Photoshop?
I just had a look, and every startup script is checked (including the
    ones for Bridge and Photoshop)
    Regards,
    Manuel

  • With Netscape all of the Webcam shots from live feeds were automatically saved in my cache folder and I could simply open my cache send the saved files into AcDsee and convert them into jpgs, It would save as many as I would allow space for. With firefox

I cant retrieve my images from webcams that are cached any more with mozilla. With netscape all of the live webcam images from live cams were automatically saved in my cache folder and all i had to do was open it send the files to acdsee and turn them into jpgs. It would save them untill the Cache ran out of room no matter how many files or sites I had running. Mozilla seems to save what it wants when it wants and often dose not save any that I can retrieve because I believe it is bulking them into Cache 123 or 4 and those i cant open to retrieve the files. Sometimes it saves 100 or so and sometimes 2 or 3 sometimes 10 or more but i don't seem to have any control over what it does or does not save to retrieve no matter how much space i allow for the cache to save.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened

You have or had an extension installed (Ant.com Toolbar) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.3 to Firefox/3.0.12.
You can see the Firefox version at the top and the user agent at bottom of the "Help > About" window (Mac: Firefox > About Mozilla Firefox).
You can check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the '''about:config''' page.
You can open the ''about:config'' page via the location bar, just like you open a website.
    Filter: '''general.useragent'''
If ''general.useragent'' prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose ''Reset''.

  • Map itunes album cover cache folder

i have a small SSD hard drive as my main drive and my music is on another hard drive is there a way i can map it on the other drive?  because it is filling up my ssd drive.  maybe a registry redirect or something??
i try to go in to itunes\Edit\Preferences\Advanced    and change itunes media folder location but it still puts the album cover cache folder in c drive

It's a cache of the artwork.
It's on the file system, not in memory.
You don't have any options over it's size.
I think what you're asking for is a more effective cache. Much as I'm now commited to iTunes (it runs my iPod and I'm addicted to podcasts) Windows Media Player does a much better job of handling artwork. In WMP the art is rendered on the off-screen sections of the page so that it is immediately visible as you scroll up & down. In iTunes it appears to be fetched as an afterthought.

  • Changing the JWS Cache Folder

    hi folks,
I have a question: is there any way to change the JWS Cache Folder (and launch the application offline)?
I've heard about a file called javaws.cfg, but as far as I understood this file is no longer used in JREs neewer than 1.4.2.
let me explain my problem: I want to distribute (is deploy the right word?) a desktop application (I've already putted the pictures and jaspers inside the .jar), but i need to use an external config file to store the address of the server (just the ip of the postgres server with the database)...
can I use JWS to make something like this:
    +C:\MY_APP\
    - MY_APP.jar
    - MY_APP.ini
so the user are also able to run the aplication from a desktop shortcut (to MY_APP.jar)?
thanks in advance and sorry about my bad english!

Supply a default file within a Jar. If the user changes the location, store it using the PersistenceService. • Where is cache folder on 3.6.13?

where is the cache folder installed 3.6.13? I can't find it.

You can open about: pages via the location bar like you open a website.

  • Relocation of Cache folder

I am using Camera Raw v4.1 for Windows. The following Cache folder contains 880 mb of files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Barry Koopersmith\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\CameraRaw\Cache
Where is the setting to change the location of this folder so I can locate it to another hard drive?
Thanks to anyone who can help me out.

    Jim,
If that's correct, it's changed since version 3.7, which is what I'm using.
The Settings dropdown is separate to the arrow I'm talking about.
Underneath the histogram, and just above the tabs, there is a dropdown
marked "Settings", with a down arrow, to select the different settings.
To the immediate right of the dropdown, there is a small arrow pointing to
the right, with no markings. Click on this to get the different settings
options (Load, Save, Export, etc), and at the very bottom is Preferences,
with a shortcut of Control-K, which will also invoke the Preferences Dialog.
Again, this is with v3.7, so if it has changed in later versions, my
    apologies.

  • Media cache folder

Has the CC2014 version of Premiere done something different with the media cache folder?  I had the folder in the same location as I did when using Premiere CC.  I deleted the folders to start fresh but when opening a project in the new CC2014 version the cache folder was not recreated.  At least not where I expect it to be.

Hmm, I don't think it actually is any difference with the media cache but my sync settings.  I synced from CC and downloaded settings to CC2014.  It doesn't seem to sync ALL settings.  I'm finding the same thing in After Effects, where my output settings aren't syncing even though I have the checkbox in output settings selected when syncing.
Kinda defeats the purpose of syncing settings if some do, some don't.

  • File name with symbols won't delete from trash.cache\trash\cache folder.

found this weird file name with symbols (squares nad the like) in the trash.cache\trash\cache folder. Can't seem to delete it from windows, can't get at from the dos prompt. Windows safe mode won't delete it.
Any suggestions as to what it is and how to get rid of it.

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
    fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there
I went into the disk utility through the Apps folder
and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.

  • I am having a problem with files in media cache folder related to themes in PrE7.

I have PrE7/PSE7 and like others noticed my media cache folder kept growing.  In particular there were .pek and .cfa files for three files that weren't in any of my projects.  As I dug around I discovered they were Themes, ones that I never used.  As I played more I found that these were the only themes that when previewed did not have any sound.  My fear is that they are corrupt and and that is why the sound files are being created.  Can somebody check theirs and tell me if they should have sound or not?
    Thanks,
    Mike

As far as I know everything is stock from the original load.  I didn't have any luck finding any meaningful references to issues with themes.  It would be nice if somebody could confirm if the themes mentioned above do actually have audio before I try a reload of the software.  If Adobe monitors these forums as I would hope they do, maybe they could chime in with some type of acknowledgement (aware of bug but no fix or patch available...etc.)  But then again, 8 is released...7 is history...:(
    Bill thanks for your help...:)
I'm going to leave the post open over the weekend in hopes I'll get the info I requested then close it.  Thanks again.
