Location of Capture Files

Hello. I am capturing video from analogue sources using Premiere Pro and according to the capture screen it is saving the initial digitization as a .dv file, but I cannot find that file anywhere on my PC. I would appreciate any assistance. Thanks.

HI. Is there a way to have Grab save screen captures to a location other than the Desktop? I checked in Preferences and there are none.

are you talking about the app "Grab" or are you talking about screen capture via the keystrokes cmd-shift-3 and cmd-shift-4? if you're talking about the cmd-shift-3/4 then there is an easy way to change the save location for the file.
in terminal issue the following command
*defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /LOCATION*
where LOCATION is the location of the directory you want to save to.
for example if you wanted to save to a folder that you've created on your desktop called 'Screenshots' then the command would be
*defaults write com.apple.screencapture location /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Desktop/Screenshots*
or alternatively
*defaults write com.apple.screencapture location ~/Desktop/Screenshots*
this will take effect once you log out and log back in.

Screen Capture file location?

Suddenly my screen captures are sent only to the clipboard instead of the desktop as they used to. How can I change that back? I'm using ShiftCtrl+Cmd4 or ShiftCtrl+Cmd3.

You're pushing too many buttons. The additional ctrl button copies to the clipboard.
See the Preference panels>Keyboard>keyboard Shortcuts for the list of buttons.

How to write the location of a file in a text file?

Hello All,
I am doing a POC with the following scenario:
Steps:
1. Move a file from one location in your system to another location, say from C drive to D drive.
2. After that i want to write the new location of the file in a text file.
I have succesfully moved the file from C drive to D drive using the File Adapter and also FTP Adapter. However I am unable to copy or write the new location of the file into a text file. Please provide me any suggestions regarding this issue i am facing. Your help and support is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If want the file directory name to be captured in the BPEL process then add <element name="directory" type="string"/> in the inbound or outbound adapter header wsdl file. Then declare a variable of the header message type and in the 'adapter' tab of the receive or invoke activity select that variable which you previously created.

Location of original files ...

Hi,
I've a question about the file location of imported media in a Premiere Elements Project:
Do I still need the original files at their original location to build the final video in Premiere Elements?
Or can I delete them without any risk?

As Paul_LS states, the original "Captured" files are NOT edited by PE. This is true for most NLE programs. Only a reference is made in the Project file, as to what is being done to that/those file(s). PE is a non-destructive editor.
Those media files are "referenced" and MUST be available to PE. If their location has been moved, you can re-direct PE to where they are. This might be an easy task, depending on the folder/sub-folder structure, or might be a real headache. If deleted, an unrecoverable, one must re-Capture from the tape. If these Captured files differ, in any way, PE will not be able to use them, and a lot of work lies ahead. Even where I have the original tapes, I always work from a copy or have an archived version, of my Captured files. This might be as simple as just doing a copy of these to an external HDD, until the Project is finished. I want exact dupes of the Captured files, so I will NOT have to re-Capture and run the risk of having any discrepencies between what I get, and what I have used in PE. Even with this redundancy, when I finish a Project, I use the Archvier (Project Manager in PrPro) to copy over every Asset, plus the Project file, to an external HDD. As Project Manager will often miss Assets, like SmartSound files, I make sure to check. Do not know if Archiver is more perfect in this regard.
To restate: until you KNOW that you are done with the Project, do not Delete, Move or Rename your media files.

Organizing Capture Files

Does anyone have any recommendations on the best way to capture video in an organized way? What I am capturing is mostly family related video. Whenever I start a new project, the capture files get created in a new folder. This creates a bit of a mess and is difficult to find the files when I want to go back and create a different project based on a different theme or topic. For instance, I may start a project based on the most recent digital video (e.g., Winter 2007-2008) and then in early 2009, I may want to go back through my old captured files and create a "Family 2008" video. I guess I could keep going back to the same project name (e.g., "Generic Project") and have all of the files downloaded to the folders associated with this project, but there must be a better way to organize what I capture. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a drive dedicated as a 'video clip library' and organize my clips into folders with descriptive names identifying the general nature of the clips contained therein. These names often match the name of the original project that I captured them in, but not always. Inside each folder the clips are named according to a 'yyyymmdd-rr-nnn' numbering scheme where rr= reel number and nnn=a unique clip number. For what it's worth, the Reel Number that I assign to each clip in FCE at the time of capture is the yyyymmdd-rr portion of this name.
I keep a spreadsheet of the clip numbers, cross referenced to a description and various other info (like location, scene, camera used, tape used, etc.) Dates & reel names are self-evident from the clip numbers.
You might also consider something like Foottrack or iDive to catalog your clips.

When i double click itunes it doesn't open it just comes up with an error saying " The itunes library.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the 'itunes' folder in the 'music' folder". How can i fix this?

Unable to capture files into external hard disk because of 'drop frames '

I haven't been able to capture footage from my DV camcoder thru firewire to an external hard disk in FCP because i get a message saying 'drop frames were detected'.
This happens when i selected this external hard drive as the scratch disk in FCP.
When i deslect it and select my user hard disk as the scratch disk, the capturing works perfectly. But i just want to capture all my capture files into the external hard disk, not my user hard disk.
The external hard disk's speed is 3500 - could that be the problem? Is it too slow? Its connected thru USB and it is Mac Os Extended Journaled. Its got 250gb of space, so that's not the issue.
Can anybody help me?

No, its a Panasonic gs180, a really good camera.
The camera itself is connected to my computer through firewire. Its the hard disk enclosure that is connected to my emac through USB. Anyway, i'm sure that's not the problem, casue like i said, the capturing works fine when i use my user hard disk as the FCP scratch disk.
The problem i have is when i try to capture footage from my camera to the external hard disk enclosure. When i press 'capture now' and press play, the playback stutters and a messsage appears saying, "drop frames detected" and the capturing stops.
I feel like i need to adjust something in FCP itself - like a preference or something - just not sure what.

Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

Look in your Home > Music folder. There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl You want to guide iTunes to that file. If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.
