  • Location of iphone backup on computer

I am probably being thick, but I have backed my iphone up to my computer, where is it saved, as I cant find it.
    Thanks

iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the Application Data folder, click Start, and choose Run. Type %appdata% and clickOK.
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
Note: To quickly access the AppData folder, click Start. In the search bar, type %appdata% and press theReturn key.

  • Location of contacts backup

I don't have Outlook on my home Windows PC, so I was unable to import contacts/addresses to my iPhone by synch. Once I have them, though, I found that I could back them up. As confirmation, a second synch two weeks later asked me if I really wanted to change one entry in synching. Where on my PC do they reside?

  • Really confused about iPhone backups

OK, so I located my iPhone backups in Users/Library/Application Support/MobileSynce/backups
And what did I find there? 6,740 files related to a backup that I started last night at 1:38 AM, with the last file ending at 5:20 AM (this is why I only sync at night anymore). No WONDER my backups take so long. Does everyone have this many files located in the above directory? I'm also seeing a few thousand other files related to previous backups (even though I'm only showing "one" backup file in iTunes > Preferences.
The majority of these files are 4 to 16 KB, while the largest ones are in the megabyte range of 1 to 8 MB.

Weird. At the risk of waiting another 5 hours or so to complete a backup, I went ahead and plugged my phone into the dock. For the first time since installing 2.0.1, my sync completed in 14 minutes. Looking in the MobileSync directory, however, I noticed that only a total of 186 files were backed up, as opposed to over 6,500 from the night before. My best guess would be that the iPhone only backs up files that have actually changed since the last sync (or at least this is what it SHOULD do), but that sometimes it decides to back up everything, whether any data has changed or not. At least this might explain why some people are waiting extraordinarily long times for backups while others are not, given the variable of the number of apps on one's phone, at least.

  • Deleting Old Corrupt iPhone Backup Folder - Which One Do I Delete

I am getting the message "iTunes can not backup the iPhone, because the backup was corrupt, or not compatible with the iPhone" whenever i try to backup my iPhone 5s. I have been getting this message since around the end of May 2014 after updating my iOS to 7.1.2.
I have seen a couple of posts about how to go about deleting an old backup already. After some time, I figured out where to locate the iPhone backups in their original location, because they did not show up in my devices tab through iTunes. I have already located the files under:
    /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup
So I did manage to get this far, but now I have come across a handful of folders that are full of files, all named with a bunch of alphanumeric characters. There are some backups of devices that I do not need to delete, that I don't have physical access to some of the devices at the moment to just delete all of the backup folders and re-backup afterwards.
My main question is, "How can I tell which backup corresponds to the iPhone having trouble, so I do not delete another backup that I do not wish to lose?"
If it helps, I am on a Macbook Pro, running OS X Mavericks, and iTunes 11.3.1 (2).
Please help ASAP, and THANK YOU in advance!!

First, if you don't have iExplorer yet, you should download it here. Then install it. After installing it open the iExplorer. It is not necessary to plug your device in. Then click the "Browse Local iTunes Backups".
After clicking it, go to the "Browse iTunes Backup" directory. It will show you the list of backup folders on your computer with a readable folder name i.e. the names of each devices that has backup files on your computer. From there you can now identify which backup folder is yours.

Hi, I have a pc laptop with a partitioned hard drive, and my iphone back ups automoatically save to the C drive.  I need them to save to the D drive instead, but dont know how to change the location of the backups.

Yes, you can change the backup location. Read here:

  • How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes?

How can I change the location for the backup from iphone to itunes? I want to backup to my external harddisk and not the computer itself. How do I do it?

Moving the iOS device backup location
Open a command prompt by hitting the start button and typing CMD<Enter> in the search box that opens up, or with Start > Run on older Windows.
To move the current backup folder from C: to D: (for example) type in this command and press <Enter>
    Move "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
Where <User> is your Windows user name.
To make iTunes look for the data in the new location type in this command and press <Enter>
    MkLink /J "C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup" "D:\Backup"
If your preferred drive has a different letter or you already have a folder called "Backup" then edit "D:\Backup" accordingly in both commands.
If you have Windows XP then you'll need a third-party tool such as Junction to link the two locations together instead of the MkLink command. The source folder is C:\Documents and Settings\<User>\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

  • Iphone backup location on new macbook pro

I re installed my MacBook Pro and wiped all data/information from the hard drive.
I backed up everything, including my iphone backups to add to itunes, but the mobilesync folder isn't there.
Can anyone help me find the location of the folder? (I'm using Lion)

I've actually replaced my pro with the new 13" air.  I found that I could restore the phone with the icloud backup via the phone instead of the computer.  this was great, however now I cant sync my iphone with the new macbook air without erasing all on the iphone
I tried moving my preferences from my imac to the new air, along with the mobilesync backups - it worked for my ipad and I can sync that with no issues.  However once again the iphone wont do it.
Is there a way of restoring the phone to sync with this computer and then restore the backup so I get all my messages - however would this render it not able to sync with my air again?
    Appreciate any comments

  • How do I change the location of my iPhone Backup?  I have no room.

I understand the the iPhone backups my phone data in the following location:
    C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync
The problem is that I have a partitioned drive with a relatively small C Drive, this means that my iPhone doesn't have enough room to back itself up. I have lots of space on my D Drive. How can I tell iTunes to back up the data on the D Drive?
This is incredibly frustrating because if I can't change locations and have to unpartition my drive, there is no way for me to back up my data for when I reformat my computer.

If the size of the iPhone backup is putting you over the edge you have bigger problems than just this backup. You really need to solve the fundamental problem of your C: partition being too small. Even if you could solve the iPhone problem something else will come up soon that will again challenge your disk space. New drives can be had for well under $100, and even a 500 GB drive is only a little more than $100. This would be a good time to upgrade. You can even clone your current drive AND increase the partition size in one step with disk imaging software such as Acronis True Image.

  • Automatic iphone backup location - upgrade to iOS 5

I am looking for the iPhone automatic backup file created by iTunes while upgrading iPhone to iOS 5 via  iTunes 10.5.2.11 / Windows XP.  Itunes creates automatically a backup of iPhone before upgrading and will restore this backup after upgrade is completed.  I need to know where to find this backup file.
I just upgraded iPhone to iOS 5 via iTunes on Windows XP.  I forgot to make my own iPhone backup before upgrading.  After upgrading and restoring iPhone (the automaitc backup), iTunes started a sync with Outlook even tough I had checked in iTunes "Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically".
I did  not wish iTunes to sync with Outlook, and cancelled the sync.  Now I got a lot of stuff mixed up in my iPhone and I would like to restore my iPhone with the automatic backup created by iTunes before upgrading to iOS 5.  This backup doesn't show in the backups listed in iTunes / device backups.
    Thank you.

Agreed. Same thing here. Just bought a late model Alpine INE-S920Hd and it is all kinds of broken. I think this is happening because Apple shifted the music and video. Totally buggy. Bluetooth refuses to work properly, too. A2dp keeps stealing the audio from Pandora in the Alpine interface. The ipod controls dont work at all.

  • How to us iPhone backup file from Time Machine drive to restore iPhone

Stupidly, I deleted my primary account on my iPhone that contained my contacts and calendar. I don't currently subscribe to MobileMe. I took advantage of the free service when I bought my phone, but decided not to subscribe as I synch my iPhone to my computer and back up my computer using a hard drive connected with Time Machine. Unfortunately, when I stopped using MobileMe, a synch to my iTunes wiped out all my contact data in my Address Book on my computer and my calendar. Therefore, all my most current information was on my iPhone.
I went to the Apple store and was told that the iTunes backup file may be used to restore the contacts and calendar information on my iPhone. I synched my iPhone to iTunes and then did the iPhone restore to factory settings. Only then did I realize that the older, correct backup file was not an available option in the dropdown.
So, I'm trying to figure out how to pull an older iPhone backup file and then use it to restore the iPhone. The only thing is that when I go to Time Machine and look at an older Library --> Application Support --> Mobile Sync --> Backup folder, there's a whole bunch of .mdbackup files in there.
How do I select what I need? How do I get the iTunes protocol to run the restore on my iPhone using those files?

Select the folder that contains the .mdbackup files and use Get Info for the folder to check the date the backup was updated. I would forget about trying to extract individual .mdbackup files and transfer the entire folder to the same location on your computer's hard drive - with iTunes quit before doing so.
After doing so, this backup should be available to select when restoring your iPhone from your iPhone's backup.
If this is successful restoring contact info and calendar events on your iPhone, if the Address Book and iCal on your Mac is empty - it does not contain any data, before syncing your iPhone direct with the Address Book and iCal on your Mac, enter one unique contact in the Address Book, and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. Make these up if needed, which can be deleted later. This will provide a merge prompt when syncing this data, which you want to select.
Does Time Machine include a backup of your Address Book and iCal on your Mac? If so, it will be much easier and faster to restore the Address Book and iCal on your Mac from your Time Machine backup.

  • HT1386 How do I move my iPhone backups etc from 1 Laptop to another?

    Hello,
I have my iPhone backed up on a crappy old laptop and want to move everything to my new laptop.
How can i do this without a) having to wipe and re-sync my phone and b) without losing all my backup data from the old laptop.
    Thanks
    KT

To avoid data loss, copy your entire iTunes folder from your current computer to your new one following one of the methods in this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527.  Then authorize the new computer for any Apple IDs used to purchase media from iTunes or App store.  Then create a new iPhone backup on your new computer by:
Before connecting your phone, open iTunes and disable automatic syncing (iTunes>Preferences>Devices>Prevent...)
Now connect your phone and right-click on its name when it appears on the left sidebar of iTunes and select Backup
When this finishes you can go back and re-enable automatic syncing if you prefer this.  Also be sure to migrate your contacts and calendar to your new computer prior to syncing if you are syncing with Outlook or another supported program using iTunes.  If you fail to do this you will lose your contacts and calendar.
FYI, your backups are located here:
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista/7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
