Location of Iphoto images

Afternoon. Running OSX 10.8.5 on both Intel Mac and Mac Book Pro.
Question?

Thanks for any help

  • IPhoto images missing in Edit window after importing iPhoto albums folder

A friend of mine with new macbook tried to import her iPhoto images from an external hardrive. She move it to her user photo album and then i believe she tried to point to it after launching iphoto. She told me there were some options windows popping up and she does not remember what they said but the current result is that many of her photos do not appear when she clicks on the thumb nails to edit them: said there is a grey field with a questin mark.
My thought was to somehow repoint to the file or dump the .plst file.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    todd

The question mark shows up when the link between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window loses the location of the file it points to.
The most common cause of this is User activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss.
    As your friend now sees.
Unless your friend nows exactly what changes she has made, I'm afraid the best way to fix this is to start again, importing from your originals folder.
There are comprehensive instructions for moving the iPhoto Library Folder in the Help, or if you need more you can most on here.

  • Iphone/ipad video glitches after upload thru iphoto/image capture...suggestions??

iphone/ipad video glitches after upload thru iphoto/image capture...suggestions??

If the problem only appears with iPhoto then it may be due to a bad pref file for iPhoto. It could also be caused by a bad cache or log file.
There are additional ImageCapture preference files located in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/ folder. Be sure to remove them also. Also remove the /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto/ folder.
There are two ImageCapture cache files located in the /Library/Caches/ folder. Drag them to the Trash but do not delete them as yet.
Now restart the computer and see what happens.

I never tried importing from the iPhoto library as referenced images. I wonder if Aperture can access images stored in an iPhoto library package?  Even if it would work, it sounds like a bad thing to do.
You might consider starting over and this time have Aperture manage the images.  That will copy them to the Aperture library, leaving the iPhoto library untouched. This assumes you have sufficient space to make a complete copy of all the images in your iPhoto library plus another copy of each image that Aperture makes as the preview image. You can then back up your iPhoto library (two backup copies, just to be sure) then remove it from your hard drive when you start getting too low on space.  As I write this I don't know where your iPhoto or Aperture libraries are/will be located so I'm assuming you have them on your HD.

  • IPhoto images missing from Time Machine

I can't find my iPhoto library in Time Machine.
I deleted my iphoto library from my Macbook recently.
When I go to previous Time Machine back ups, I can't find the library.
    I have tried searching:
    Library.photolibrary
dsc_ (which is the start of the filename for the photos in that library)
I can locate my iPhoto library, but when I open the enclosing folder there are no folders with images.
Is there anyway that I can locate the missing photos?

  • Help: import iphoto images into FCE

Hi, Jake here. Hope you're all doing well....
I just bumped up from iMovie 06 to FCE. Loving it so far, but still overwhlemed by the learning curve.
Today's big question is how to best import a series of photos from iPhoto into FCE. I will be mixing photos & videos for most of my projects. I have tried these two things so far:
    1) Dragged & dropped from iphoto directly onto the FCE timeline. Image looks very blurry.
    2) Exported at max JPEG quality from iphoto to a location on my hard drive. Then imported file into FCE, then placed on timeline. It's every bit as blurry.
Both images have a green line above them, indicating a preview render?? I don't get it, but I just know photos weren't blurry in the store when the Mac guys showed this to me a couple weeks ago.
So what is the easiest way to do this? I want to import photos quickly & easily, then add effects & movement, but I can't believe that Apple has made it so cumbersome. I imagine I am missing something here. Please advise.
    Thanks!
    Jake

I think Jake did everything correctly but is expecting too much from a DV format.
    I repeated the same with a 2304 × 1736 (4 megapixel) image and I got the same:
    - dragging a Photo JPEG image (square pixels) to a DV (PAL or NTSC) sequence requires rendering: I get the same green render bar on top
    - in addition the resolution loss from 2304 × 1736 to 720x480 (or 720x576) makes the image blurry
If you compare the iPhoto image and the imported image in the viewer (not in the timeline) you see basically the same quality; but the same image already converted into the timeline is blurry.
I'm afraid Jake has to live with this or move to HD. In any case iMovie could do no better than FCE.
My suggestion in any case is always to check the final quality of the movie, during editing, on an interlaced monitor (TV) connected through firewire and a D/A converter (e.g. camcorder): mostly for still images.

  • IMovie 11 not importing iPhoto images

    Hi!
Since installing iLife 11 I can no longer import iPhoto images into my iMovie projects. Here's the detail:
I select a photo from my iPhoto collection using the multimedia navigator in the bottom right-hand corner of iMovie. I drag an icon of the photo into my iMovie project. The icon appears a few seconds later in the project. But when I play the project, the photo is not shown, the previous sequence freezes for the duration of the time that the image was meant to appear. What's wrong?
Similarly, the iMovie function which is supposed to identify iPhoto images corresponding to the event I am working on, does not work.
I have an Intel iMac and the latest versions of Snow Leopard, iMovie and iPhoto (version iLife 11).
I am naively shocked that two iLife programmes do not interact seamlessly.
Thanks in advance for taking time to help me!

Anyway in my searches to fix this problem, I noted that one contributor imports pics to imovie by a novel method. They export the image from iPhoto or Aperture to the desktop, then drag the image from the desktop onto the iMovie timeline. So I tried that and PRESTO, the image played perfectly.  I've applied this workaround several times in the last half hour with images from iPhoto and Aperture , and it continues to work.
John - that's an excellent workaround which I've used on the odd occasion. But be aware that if you subsequently move the image from the Desktop to another location, the project may lose track of it (the project links to the image file). If you right-click on the image in the project before moving it, then select Reveal in Finder, you will be taken to Desktop in Finder. But if you do the same after moving the image, Reveal in Finder doesn't work, that is, nothing happens. The image may still be viewable in the project, but I'm not sure that it will always remain that way.
What I do with problem images in iPhoto is drag them to the Desktop, then open in Preview. From Preview I then Save As a jpeg file (even though it may already be in jpeg format). Finally, I re-import the saved image to iPhoto and use that image in iMovie - secure in the knowledge that I'm unlikely to move it again once stored in iPhoto. Re-saving images in Preview seems to help when they are not playing well with iMovie (or iPhoto for that matter).

  • How do I control storage location for iPhoto, iDVD and iMovie

My primary drive is getting full and I note that my User file has all of the iPhoto images, iDVD projects and iMovie projects.  I want to take these collections off the main drive and place them on one of my external hard drives to open up space on my primary drive (the one with the Applications, etc.) How do I control where my images and movies are filed when I use the above applications? I do not recall designating any save function to this folder or drive.  How can I save these files in a location on my external drives in tthe future? If I move these images and movies from my User file, will that cause a problem for iPhoto or iMovie or iDVD in finding the files in the future as I use these applications?

    Hi
They are using three different concepts - VERY UNLIKE APPLE to do like this !
    • iPhoto saves in a iPhoto library and there can be more than one - using the alt-key during up-start let's You to select which one You want to use and on Main Hard Disk at Root level in Photo folder.
    • iDVD - Save an iDVD Project file (sort of folder) where You want to find it.
    • iMovie - saves Event's and Project's in iMovie Event's resp Project's folders AND ONE MUST NOT alter or move anything in them or location of them - Moving Event's and Project's MUST BE DONE inside the iMovie Application !
So while one can move iMovie Event's and Project's to another Mac - the needed Photos (and audio from iTunes) will be missing and very hard to get iMovie on second Mac to find and recognice.
Yours (also confused - and moving step by step into the OLD FinalCut realm - Where everything makes SENSE !)

  • Downsize iPhoto images & export them to a folder using Automator?

Please bear with me. I wasn't sure where to post this since I can't find an Automator string in the Discussions window. This is what I'd like to do. I'm making web site using iWeb and I love it. However, when dragging and dropping images into iWeb from the iPhoto media browser, it imports the original iPhoto image into iWeb and not the edited one. This seems stupid to me but there it is. So as some have suggested I thought I'd grab and album and have all the photos in it downsized to 800x(constrained proportion). Can Automator do this? When i poke around in the iPhoto actions in Automator I don't see much. I've searched AutomatorWorld also and can't find anything there. Am I being dim about this?

    Benjamin
I can't help you with Automator, but there is an Automator forum under the Mac OS X 10.4 folder, where I'm sure they'll help.

  • I moved my iphoto folder to a new location by mistake. I've moved it back to its original location, but iphoto no longer sees the photos. What step(s) am I missing to return to the setup I had.

i moved the folder containing all of my photos to a new location on my hard drive by mistake. I've moved it back to its original location, but iphoto no longer sees the photos. What step(s) am I missing to allow iphoto to see the photos as it did before. Also,
I am trying to back up all of my photos to a thumb drive. Is there a way to do this thru iphoto?

Witholut knowing what you did, it's hard to know what you missed doing, no?
Try Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
Backing up just the Photos? File ->Export
    Backing up the Library?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

  • TS3195 My mac mini (Snow Leopard, v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone 4, iphone 4s or ipad2 in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview but it does in iTunes.  I am at a loss for importing photos, short of emailing them.  Glitch with OS X 10.6.8 ?

My Mac Mini (v10.6.8) does not acknowledge my iphone as a device in iPhoto, Image Capture, iSync or Preview although, iTunes does.  I am at a loss for importing photos other than emailing them to myself. Same problem with my iphone 4, iphone 4s, ipad2 and New iPad. Is this a problem with OS X 10.6.8 as I read some posts claim? Please help.

I was able to import photos in iPhoto and Image capture when I was running SL 10.6.8 on my older MacBook.
Did you try quitting everything, restart the Mac and then try again?
Are there any updates at all for the Mac? I was helping one user not all that long ago and there were updates for her Mac software that had nothing to do with the OS and when she downloaded the updates - the iPad was then recognized in iTunes.

  • Where will i find iphoto images in my backup

ok so i backed up my macbook pro but can't seem to find my iphoto images.  there isn't the option to search for all pictures like there would be on the mac and when i click on the iphoto icon in my pictures folder it just brings up a box and tells me how many kb it is.
i've looked everywhere but can't see it and don't want to download mavericks till i'm sure i have everything i need backed up (just in case)

Make a note of the size of the iPhoto library in your Time Machine backups.
    Close Time Machine
Click the  Finder icon at the lower left of the dock on the Mac's screen
    Open the Pictures folder
Click on the iPhoto Library to highlight it
Click the gear icon above the window and click Get Info
Note the size of the iPhoto library
The size of your iPhoto library should match the size of the iPhoto library in your Time Machine backups
Assuming that is the case, your iPhoto library is backed up

  • HT3986 Where are the individual files located in iphoto

Where are the individual files located in iphoto, thanks for your help

They are all stored in the iPhoto Library.  You would need to examine its contents to see them separately (outside of iPhoto).
