Location of iweb file

I purchased a new mac pro tower.  I removed the drive from my previous mac pro tower and installed it in the new tower.  I started the new mac pro tower and at the appropriate locaiton asked to have my previous files and settings transferred to the new computer.  All seemed to work well until I started working with I web.
I opened I web and there was my site as it should be.  I made changes and uploaded over several days.  Still all is well.  I then decided to work on my mac book pro while on vacation so I found the domain.sites2 file in the user folder (after having to make it visible on Lion) and copied it to my laptop.  Upon opening it was the wrong file!  I did several copies and all of the results were the same, some much older version of my site.
I removed the file from the new tower and opened iWeb and there was my site Still !!  It did not take long to find that iWeb was using the file on my backup drive instead of the user folder on my new tower.
Somehow the utility to move data to a new computer did not move the file at it should have but told the new iWeb to use the file on the old drive.
This seems to be the only location you can report bugs??  Please post a reply if there is a better forum/location to report bugs.
David

In Lion the Finder folder is now invisible.  To make it permanetely visible enter the following in the Terminal applicaiton window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an applicaiton.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. The script modifies the iWeb preference file when it's launched so one can open the domain file the first time under Lion or switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate

  • Location of IWeb File on Yosemite iOS

I am needing to locate my IWeb file to check size of it.  I looked in the library/application support folder, but there is no IWeb listed.
Is there another location where it might be hiding? I have ver 3.0.4 for IWeb.
    Thanks

You need to look in your user Library folder, not the system Library folder.
    Under the Go menu in the Finder at the top of your screen select 'Go to Folder'. Then enter this exactly in the window that appears;
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
It will take you right to your domains.site file which contains all your website data that iWeb opens to build it.

what's the save location for iweb files?

    Depends which files you mean.
The default location for the Domain.sites2 is - Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb

  • Location of iWeb files - External Drive ?

    Dear members:
I would like to have my iWeb files residing in an external hard disk. How can I set up iWeb so that it stores its associated files in a external disk instead of my home directory ?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Joseph Chamberlain

    Wyodor:
Thank you for the link. The information is very helpful and I have already moved the domain file as the article suggests. It works great.
Another issue that this article does not address is how to move the site location to an external drive. Although I had noticed that the domain information was kept in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb I have also noticed that the site files seem to kept in ~/Sites.
How can I move my sites and files to an external drive ? In case this is possible I would prefer to keep the different files in separate folders so that their associated files don't become mixed. Can I move the files to an external location ? Assuming this can be done is there a way to set this location in iWeb or should I replace the Sites folder with an Alias pointing to the external hard drive ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Joseph

  • Iweb files location

please help me to locate the iweb files i created on my computer. couldn't find the location.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ as the path. The Sites package inside contains them; to view its contents, control-click it and choose Show Package Contents.

  • IWeb File Saving Location?

I want to backup my iWeb files as I do most of my data. Trouble is I cant find where Apple stores my site files, it just magically happens. Anyone figure this out yet? Also, could these file(s) be stored on .mac itself allowing editing from multiple computers?

    there is no
purpose of maintaining a copy (which grows very
quickly) in his or her hard disk, not to mention the
question of backing up correctly the data.
Can't understand why one should not be able to decide
"where" to save his/her work. The alternative to save
one's work to iDisk when he/she is finished seems to
    me the best solution.
The Domain file contains all the data about your site. It is not really usable except by the iWeb program. Without it, you cannot edit and republish. If you lose it, you need to recreate your site from scratch. That is just the way the program works. You should use the feedback channel to tell Apple if you would prefer a different arrangement.
To avoid possible problems, one should always keep a recent backup copy of Domain somewhere, on your hard drive, iDisk, CD, flash drive or whatever.
Personally I don't think it would make sense to require iWeb to fetch Domain from an iDisk every time it opens, if that is what you are suggesting, since this would make it impossible to work on sites when not connected to broadband network.

Arty ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. iWeb can't import/open published HTML/media files on your iDisk. iWeb can only open its key Domain file which contains your site data — it's usually located here:

  • Lost iweb files, can I reload them ?

I lost all my iweb files from my hard drive. I did however have them stored on my web server and my web sites were thus unaffected. I have decided I want to update one of the sites. I have opened iweb but cant figure out how to get the previous saved web site up to edit. I have downloaded the exact same folder I had stored on my server to my desktop.
Is there a way to bring my old site up to edit ?

...Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.

  • Iweb Files are Missing since Upgrade Yeasterday

Yesterday, my computer did some automatic upgrades. Now when I open iWeb, it just brings up a blank new template. Where did my previous iWeb file go? In the past, when I opened iWeb, the files were just there! It was published to .Mac, but I cannot seem to figure out how to open the file again in iWeb. What happened? It just seems to be gone!

This problem of the "disappearing domain file" seems to come from updating to V 2.0.2 and not doing a restart.
You need to try a spotlight search for your "missing" domain.sites2 file to see if it has been moved to another location on your hard drive - failing that, do a manual search. Others have been successful with this.
One of the things you have to realize about iWeb is that it doesn't back your files up anywhere. You have to backup the domain.sites2 file yourself and update it every time you make changes.
If anything goes wrong and you don't have an up to date domain file - you're screwed!

  • Import previous iweb site from the internet? No old iweb files

My mac crashed and I lost all the information I had stored in it, including the iweb files of the blog I created using Iweb. Is there a way to import my iweb blog into a new Iweb in the mac I purchased? The iweb site I created is still up, so I am wondering if I can import the entries from my old iweb blog into my new mac/iweb using RSS or some other mechanism to capture the text and pictures in my old iweb blog and transfer them to my new mac. I also use idisk, so when I log in to mobile me I see links to my old iweb blog under if I click on Idisk and then go to "site". Any ideas about how I can import my old iweb blog from the internet?
The iweb version I have in my new mac is Iweb 3.0.3 (501)

All of my iWeb files are missing.  How can one find these files in Time Capsule and restore them?

iWeb stores the website data in a Domain.sites2 file whose default location is shown here..

Locate the file in Time Capsule and restore it to your Mac.

  • No iWeb in Application Support in Library -- so where's my iWeb file?

I have a 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Imac. I’ve had it for a couple of years, and it’s been a great machine.
I just installed Leopard (no, not Snow Leopard -- Leopard, OS X 10.5.8), and the only reason I did that (I was happy with 10.4.11) is that I’ve been doing some Web pages in iWeb and I wanted to be able to have the multiple sites separated out for publication, so that I could upload individual sites, not all at the same time. For that, I needed iWeb ’09, and for that I needed Leopard.
Okay, the question: Where do my iWeb files (or file) reside? Under 10.4.11, I could find Domain in the Library, in the folder Application Support, and then in the iWeb folder. It was easy to make a copy of, or back-up. But, what’s freaking me out now is, the Application Support folder in the Library doesn’t even have an iWeb folder in it, and I can’t find Domain anywhere using Spotlight. There seems to be a folder in Application Support for every application -- except iWeb.
And yet, every time I open iWeb, it opens up all the stuff I’ve done most recently, without fail, so it must be getting itself saved somewhere. But where?
I’m desperate to back it up, for safety sake.
    Help, anyone?

    Heya,
You're most likely looking in the wrong place. The Domain file is located in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder, not the system Library/Application Support folder. There's two Library folders which may be confusing. Again, your Domain file is located in the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. From Finder Press Shift/Control/H which will take you to your user Home folder. From there navigate to Library/Application/Support/IWeb and you should see your Domain file there.

  • How can i transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Recently my harddrive crashed and i had to rebuild my computer. I retreived most of my files but i cannot find where my iweb files are located. Does anyone know where iweb saves files or how to retreive my domain files from the web (if at all possible)?
    Thanks

    AYetis wrote:
Could there be other location for the iWeb files?
Unless you moved the Domain file, that's its default location. Make sure you're looking in the Library folder in your Home folder rather than Macintosh HD. See also THIS recent post.

  • Tranferring iweb files via idisk

i have produced a website in iweb on my mac at home and published it. I have uploaded these iweb files to idisc and now want to edit (and republish) the site on my mac at work. How do i import the web files into iweb on the other machine.

iWeb uses the "Domain" file, located in your Library > App Support > iWeb. You should be able to edit this site if you take a copy of the "Domain" file from your home machine and paste it in your Library > App Support > iWeb at work. Shame it isn't a simpler process... I'm looking forward to iWeb 2.0
