Location of mailbox

I am still using G3 Power MAc running Mac OS 10.4.9. Because of the limitation on the size of the disc for installing Mac OS 10.4, it can only have the first 8 GB. In the meantime, I need to save some of e-mail in the Mailboxes. which have taken more of the disk space now to the point that disc for Mac OS 10.4 is nearly full.Is is shame that other disk space in the same hard drive are still spacious with large unused volumes. How can I save these e-mail in the Mailboxes in other disks?
Thank you very much.
Robert

Hi JH,
here is a link to storage options and requirements for the Mailbox server :
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee832792(v=exchg.150).aspx
By default when installing New Exchange server With mailbox role,it will create default database and log path.
Recomended is to have Database and Log files on seperate disks. You will have to attache those disk first, then you can create New database using ECP.
Please look at my Gallery With full guide on how to setup New Exchange server.

Also for future use you might need to clean up log files to free up Space on Your Exchange server:

  • Best practice for default location of mailbox database(s) / logs

    Hello,
I don't recall seeing any options during the Exchange 2013 install, to specify an alternate location for either the mailbox database or log files. I've reviewed the commands for moving the mailbox databases, but before reviewing the options for setting a
location for the log files, I thought it best to see whether it's still advised to separate log/mailbox databases away from the OS, with our Exchange server being a virtualised instance?
Also, I'm assuming that Exchange still requires the usual backup of transaction logs, for them to be cleared?
    Many thanks.

  • Location of Mailboxes

I am still using a Power Mac G3, which is running Mac OS 10.4. It can only have 8.0 GB of disk space. I have save some of my e-mail to the mailboxes. Now, the disk is running out of space. at the same time, the disk on the other side of the partition has plenty of unused space. How can I save the mailboexes on the other disk space and reduce the space on this start-up disk?
    Thank you very much.

  • I just changed my macbook air. I copied everything to the new one but cannot find my mailboxes

I just changed my MacBook Air, and before I did that I copied all my info to the new one, actually they did it at a MacStore. I`m sure I have all my info in the new one but, cannot locate the Mailboxes in Mail. Where should I look and how can I import them as they where in my old MacBook air? Cheers

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.

  • How to get my mailbox back

HI. I WAS USING MAIL IN MY OLD G4 IBOOK. I BUY A MACKBOOK PRO. TO TRANSFER MY FILES TO MY NEW COMPUTER I DRAG MY PERSONAL MAILBOX WITH SOFTWARE CODES ETC... TO MY EXTERNAL HD. THEN I CONECTED THE EXTERNAL HD TO MY NEW COMPUTER TO DRAG AND DROP THE MAILBOX BACK. FOR MY SURPRISE IT DID NOT WORK AND WHEN I TRY TO RESTORE FOLLOWING THE APPLE PROCEDURE IT JUST RESTORE 3 OR 4 OF MY MESSAGES OF ALMOST 50 OR SO THAT ARE IN THERE.
    WHAT CAN I DO?
    JRO

    JRO,
the first thing you can do is to quit typing with the caps lock on, THERE IS NO REASON TO SHOUT HERE.
What was the OSX version you were using on the old G4?
Let's begin all over in case you dragged something to Mail that will give you problems in the future.
    Quit Mail
Delete the mailboxes you dragged on your new Mac.
    Delete the folder: user/Library/Mail
    Delete user / Library / Preferences / com.apple.mail.plist
Restart Mail, this will create a fresh mail folder in your Library and a new plist file.
    Enter your email account data.
Choose from the File menu, Import mailboxes, locate the mailbox data on your external drive and see if it imports correctly.

  • How does one find Mac Mail mailbox in full Time Machine Backup?

I completed full backup of my MacBook on 9/24. I use a directly connected G Drive. I need to restore my mailbox from that backup, but it doesn't show up when I attempt to use Time Machine to do so. How can I find the mail box through Finder on the G Drive?
    Thanks,
    Chris Reid

Further to this issue: I go into the finder and locate my mailbox in Library. When I go to back up 'Library' it goes back to the date in question - but there is no Library found?! There really must be a problem with the backup process. Any thoughts? I really need to find these emails!
    Thanks,

  • Mail app and Yahoo mailboxes organization

I set up the Mail app to access my Yahoo account and it has created an interesting way to organize and manage my email. I'm wondering if it is possible to change how this is set up.
So this is how it is set up:
Lion gives me my Inbox, Sent, and Trash folders. Then Yahoo gives me my Notes and their mailboxes, including Bulk Mail, Draft, Sent, Trash, and my converstations.
Notes, Bulk Mail, Draft, and my conversations work great and as expected. However, it is weird having 2 Sent folders and 2 Trash folders. If I delete messages in the Mail app, it sends it to the Trash located under Mailboxes. If I delete a message using another method (Yahoo website or iPhone), it shows up in the Trash folder under Yahoo. The same goes for the Sent folders.
Also, I have that same Yahoo account set up for my Mail app on my iPhone. My mailboxes are shown the basically the same way on my iPhone:
I am wondering if there is any way to get this whole system a little more organized. I would like all deleted messages to go to the Trash under Mailboxes and the same for Sent. I don't want the Sent and Trash folders under Yahoo at all. Then I'd like to have the Draft and Bulk Mail folders up under Mailboxes if that is possible.
If you can help, it would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you.

Thanks for your reply!I almost got it to work.
I disabled my mail account on my iPhone first, then disabled it on my Mac.
Then I went to Yahoo's website and deleted the extra folders that my Mac generated and used.
I enabled it again on my iPhone and it appeared to work great. Didn't generate any extra folders.
Then I enabled it again on my Mac and it created the extra folders and began using them again.
Once a message is placed in a folder, it will show up on Yahoo's website as well.
This is a little confusing. My Mac is creating the blank folders and anything I do on my Mac is reflected in those folders on Yahoo's website. The extra folders you see in the Mac app are the changes made using Yahoo's website.
For example, if I begin composing a message in the Mail app and save it as a draft, it'll be stored in the official Drafts mailbox on the Mac, but at Yahoo's website, that draft isn't stored in Yahoo's official draft mailbox, it is in an extra folder called Drafts. And visa versa if I create a draft using Yahoo's website.
What did I do wrong? Are my settings not configured properly?

  • One Macbook, two users, one email account

Is there anyway for two users who share use of a single macbook (two user accounts) to share a single email account using mail?
Conceptually, I imagine that this could be achieved by locating the mailboxes/folders in the public folder accessible by both users.
How do I change the settings within Mail to "point" to this folder?

Just some more notes for setting up the same mailaddress on two accounts:
    1. If you use POP3 leave messages on the server - otherwise emails received by account A won't appear in account B. On the other hand, leaving mail on server may lead to overquota. If both accounts check on a regular basis, leave them on the server for e.g. 7 days.
    2. I would prefer using IMAP, if supported by your mail provider. That way all folders and mails are stored serverside, and the displayed content will be the same for both accounts.

  • Problem with accounts that has dots

We have this problem after migrating from tiger server.
If user has secondary uid with dot
(for example primary uid for john smith is johnsmith and secondary john.smith)
and tries to login using POP(with IMAP everything is OK) then system(CYRUS)
    creates new blank mailbox john^smith.
So user don't get any error and can't receive mail because new messages located in mailbox johnsmith.
Removing dot from login solves the problem.
Is there any way to solve the problem because 10.4 does not have this issue.

forgot to mention, problem occurs only when logging to pop using uid alias that has dot(f.e. j.smith)

  • Mail help!!!

Oh help.... my ISP was not working last night but I thought it was something to do with my mail box... I decided it was a good time to clean out old messages.... I was deleting away and somehow when I looked up I had accidently moved my entire inbox to the trash... I tried to move it back and the darn thing wouldn't let me... I went to preferences and clicked delete trash NEVER and left the program alone. Came back this afternoon and all the messages are gone!! ... I phoned the ISP and although they are still having slow problems with their server there is nothing they can tell me about getting mail back... can anyone here help me?.. there were some REALLY important emails in there......

    Roxy,
What mailbox was -- by that I meant was in one such as an Inbox, or one of your custom mailboxes?
In the Finder, open Home/Library/Mail/your account folder. Open the account folder, and find the Deleted Messages.mbox folder. Open that folder, and report the files and folders within.
Also, in the Mail folder, locate the Mailboxes folder, and observe that whether there is any vistage of the lost mailbox, if it was a custom mailbox. Then, still in the Mailboxes folder, look to see if there is another Deleted Messages folder there. If so, control-click over it, and report its size using Get Info. If there is a Deleted Messages.mbox folder in the Mailboxes folder, now open it, and report the files and folders within -- with any Messages folder, do not try to list all the .emlx files within it.
    More info, please.

  • Reconstruct has goofed up my users mail

I had a single user with a POP problem. I found some advice on using reconstruct to cure mail problems I did:
    /usr/bin/cyrus/bin/reconstruct -i
and now none of my users can get into their mail boxes. I get this error:
-ERR [SYS/PERM] Unable to locate maildrop: Mailbox does not exist
I can see mail in /var/spool/imap.
What can I do ? This is an emergency

After adding a new test account I found I could get mail for it. When I looked, everything was where I expected it to be in the /var/imap and var/spool/imap folders. But, then, I noticed that the cache and index files were owned by root. I changed the owner back to cyrusimap for all my users and the mail started flowing again.

  • Can't import Entourage mail into Apple Mail

I'm using Apple Mail 2.1, which appears to be the latest version. I'm attempting to import my email from Entourage 11.2.5 (for OS X). Instead of looking for Entourage, however, Mail opens my old System 9 applications folder and asks, "Where is 12?" Pointing to Entourage just gets the message, "Unable to locate Entourage mailboxes to import." Is Mail broken or is my copy of mail broken?

Last I knew, Eudora ran fine under 10.5.8
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Mail 2.0: Odd POP folder name

In Mail.app, I have two POP accounts, one named "RoadRunner." In ~/Library/Mail, I have the two expected root account folders, but the RoadRunner one seems oddly named, lacking the expected "POP-" prefix.
IOW, instead of b]POP-<user_name>@pop-server.tx.rr.com the folder is named simply <user_name>@pop-server.tx.rr.com.
I have set up other tx.rr.com accounts on other Macs, using the same server info & account description used on mine, & in each case they are of the form POP-<user_name>@pop-server.tx.rr.com.
AFAIK, the account works perfectly well, but I'm puzzled why the folder lacks the "POP-" prefix, & if it could cause any problems. Any thoughts?

First of all, is this really Mail 2.0, as the title of your post suggests?
The “POP-” prefix should definitely be there if the account was set up in (I believe) Mail 1.3 or later. I’m not sure, but I believe early versions of Mail arranged account folders differently, specifically there was a folder for each account type (named after the account type), and the account folders themselves didn’t have the prefix.
I’ve seen some users reporting the prefix as being “POP/” (note the ‘/’ instead of ‘-’) for accounts that had been originally set up in early versions of Mail, and I believe that happened as a result of upgrading from a version of Mail that used the old convention to a version of Mail that used the new one.
That said, I have no idea why the “POP-” prefix would be missing in your case. It could be a problem if you ever want to re-create com.apple.mail.plist, for example, because Mail won’t be able to locate those mailboxes anymore after setting up the account again.
If it was me, I’d move the mail stored there to other mailboxes, delete the account, and set it up again. Alternatively, make a backup, delete the account, and import the mailboxes from the backup, or something like that.
