Location of photos kind of wierd

Had some problems with my computer...hard drive issues. Took it in to an authorized Mac repair place. They fixed my problem. They did say they had to do something, which I can't remember, to save my 10,000 photos. Shortly thereafter, I installed Leopard. One of the things that I lost when I had it in the shop was all of my photo albums. I am now in the process of making them all over again. In that proccess I noticed that all of my photos (prior to the repair) are in one location. Home folder/pictures/iphoto library/data/1997/roll 1. Seems odd to have them all in a folder called 1997/roll 1, but they are all there. Can I rename it? Move the photos to a different folder? Leave it alone? All photos since my "repair" are in home folder/pictures/iphoto library/data/2007/roll 2 and roll 3. All photos are backed up. If I rename it, say "1997 thru 2007", any dire consequences? Should I rename it before I remake all of my albums?

Home folder/pictures/iphoto library/data/1997/roll 1.
Those are not your pictures, they are simply the thumbnails. You pics will be in the Originals folder.
Here's how the iPhoto Library Folder is laid out: In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
Can I rename it? Move the photos to a different folder? Leave it alone?
Yes... but. *It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss*
The way to do this is via the iPhoto Window. Rolls in the iPhoto Window (View -> Film Rolls) correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

I have lightroom 5.7. Now I have apple TV to connect my Mac to the TV scree. I wish to do a slide show on the TV. However, on the Mac, using ITunes to share photos with the TV, I cannot locate all photo files. What is the best way to save the slide show and put it where the Mac sharing can find it? So far, I made on one folder in Lightroom, put some photos there and I found them easily. Can this be done with a slide show? Please help quickly! Also worried that the photos I put on the new folder are hard to find afterwards, when the show is done. Where do they go when I delete from from the new folder?I am not alone

Not that I'm aware of. You just export JPEG copies to a folder that you can point iTunes to. For instance, I have created a folder in my Pictures folder called Apple TV. And within that folder I have other folders of pictures that I can choose from in iTunes to share with Apple TV. But there doesn't seem to be any way to share a Lightroom slideshow. If you have laid to create a video file that would probably work. Apple TV is a little clunky in my opinion. Some things are a little more difficult to do now than they were a while back. I probably haven't provided you with much help, but just keep experimenting and I think you will figure it out.

I am also providing you with a screenshot of what appears! I need photos on my iPad2

You don't see it on the left-hand side of iTunes - you need to connect and select the iPad on the left-hand side, and then one of the tabs on the right-hand side that you use to select which content to sync to the iPad should be Photos : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You will need to select and sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent sync remains on the iPad, not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from it.

  • I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and have to manually locate the photos, every time!!!

I moved my iPhoto libraries from one hard drive to another and now every time I open a library I have to manually locate the photos. After locating the first file, it works well and remembers the location of the files of all the events, even when the folders containing the actual photos are in several different locations.
The problem is that when I close and open iPhoto, it does not remember where the files were and I have to locate at least a file, all over again.
Does anyone knows if there is a way of making iPhoto "remember" or saving the location of the files?

By default, iPhoto will store its library file under ~/Pictures. To select a library manually in iPhoto:
    Ensure that iPhoto is closed.
Hold down the Option key and click on the iPhoto icon in your Dock or launch it from the Applications folder.
    Click on Choose Library.
Locate and select the library you wish to use.
Close iPhoto and re-open it. Does it remember the library that you selected?
For more information on moving your iPhoto library, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1229.
Hope that helps, have a great day.

  • IPhoto allowed me to add location to photos taken by camera with no GPS.  Photos doesn't have this facility. is there any way to do this?

iPhoto allowed me to add location to photos taken by camera with no GPS.  Photos doesn't have this facility. Is there any way to do this?

    From http://geotag.modesittsoftware.com/Photo_GeoTag/FAQs.html
    1. Does Photo GeoTag work with iPhoto and Photos?
iPhoto and Photos store their image files in various undocumented locations, and they seem to store the image metadata in separate locations.  If you edit an image in one of their sub-folders, iPhoto or Photos may not know about the change.  Instead export the image from iPhoto or Photos, geotag it, and then import it back into iPhoto or Photos to see the geotagged location.  In the future Apple may provide a means of accessing the image files directly, but for now you must geotag the photo before importing it, or if the photo is already in iPhoto or Photos, export, geotag, and then import.
So it would seem that it isn't much better than using iPhoto 9.6.1 to do the geotagging, exporting the original from that app, & importing it into Photos.

How do I get iphoto to recognize that a computer really is connected to the internet?  I cannot use places to locate my photos, because the software keeps telling me my computer is not connected.  I know the computer is connected.

Try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. It the problem persists  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
If the new library does'nt have that problem then your original library is damaged. Post back if that's the case and we'll go from there.

  • How do I set locations in Photos?

How do I add locations to photos I import from a camera that does not have GPS?  This was very easy to do in iPhoto, but I cannot find it anywhere in Photos.

Cannot from within Photos app, from what I have read around this Forum.
I was surprised by this also. I am hoping this feature will be added in.
Exporting and adding Location and Import back is not something I'm about to bother with for thousands of scanned  pictures.
Does not make sense that one of the features of searching by location is neutered.

  • Change Location in Photos

How can I change / add the location of photos in new "Photos" - everything migrated across but some are now showing wrong data and some have lost details altogether

This is unbelievable. What a step down from iPhoto. What genius thought this up?
The old iPhoto map tool was fantastic and only occasionally wrong. I took some pictures in Princeton By The Sea, California (at Pillar Point) and iPhoto put them on the Sacramento River Wildlife Refuge a couple hundred miles away. Now I've got the bad into in Photos with no way to edit it.
I also miss the map view where I could see all the places where we took photos.

  • Add location in photos

    Hi,
In the new photos app on Mac OS X, how do I add or edit the location the photos were taken in? I have a bunch with no location and some with the incorrect location. The photos app doesn't seem to provide anything to do this, which seems like a terrible oversight.

  • How do I add locations to photos through iPhoto on iPad?

    Hi There,
I have tried searching through the forums to find an answer to this but can't seem to find it, but apologies if I've just completely missed this and it has been covered!
My understanding is that when you want to add a location to a photo through iPhoto you need to select the 'Info' option and then just type in the location, but when I select Info there is no option to add a location, it just gives you basic information and then gives you the opportunity to comment on it. Am I just misunderstanding how you are meant to add locations or am I clicking on the wrong option?
    Thanks
    Sean

I believe you can add location information through iPhoto '11 on the Mac, but not using iPhoto for iOS.  In other words, the iPhone/iPad version of iPhoto will display map data if it is associated with a photo already, but you cannot add that map data to photos in iPhoto for iOS.
If you want to have map data associated with photos on your iPad, you have to add the location information to the photos using the desktop version of iPhoto, then import those photos to your iPad.
