Location of preset files

Users should be able to specify an alternative location for the various preset files such as the collections, custom file info panels, xmp metadata templates, keywords. Bridge should search the default location and the alternative subfolders.
The main reason for this proposal is to permit easier backup or migration between computers. At present, it takes a pretty savvy user to include in a backup the contents of "C:\Documents and Settings\John\Application Data\Adobe\XMP\Custom File Info Panels", or "C:\Documents and Settings\John\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge\Collections". It would be so handy to be able to save these important files wherever one's work files are kept.
You might consider implementing this in two ways. Firstly, in Preferences, there could be an option like Photoshop's additional plugins folder.
Secondly, you could implement in Bridge a feature that certainly works in Photoshop on XP - following the shortcuts. For example, in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Photoshop Actions" I put a shortcut to a folder on my work drive "D:\work\Photography\Photoshop\Actions" which is where I save my actions. In Photoshop's actions palette, the menu lists both those in the default location and in this folder - ie it follows the shortcut. I do the same with styles, scripts, brushes etc.
John

They should be located
C:\Users\**your logon user name **\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Common\AME\6.0\Presets
Change **your logon user name** to whatever your user name is on your computer. Any new epr files have to be imported via Media Encoder. You cannot copy and paste them to the above folder.

  • CS4 Custom Effect Preset File Locations

I was wondering if anyone knows where the saved custom effect preset files are saved.  I'm sure it is somewhere on the C: Drive, which is why I want to move the saved custom effects folder to another location.  I have a SSD running my OS and program files.  I make a lot of custom presets and I would like to avoid the constant writing of these files to my C: drive.  Does anyone know how to move this folder and/or how to change where the files are saved in project settings perhaps?
Are there any other files that are constantly being written or read that I should be worried about?  Besides the project and preview files of course.  I've already got those being saved on another hard drive array.
    Thanks

ohhhh....I get it now....hmmmm, thanks for explaining...I just learned something...
I saw a posting at some place ( not here ) about some editing platforms that were going all solid state and were much faster...( but more expensive at first to set up - but saved big time on money for "time editing " in the long run )...but that is not what you're asking...
I'm sorry but offhand I don't know the answer about how to change where presets are saved...if you find answer before we do, please post it here so anyone else later can get the answer...
Meantime, there are people here who may be able to answer you....and I will do some searching
    Rod
    ps.
thinking about this....offhand ....since custom presets are actually simply a variation of the presets....which is part of the " core " program I would say that NO...you can't change that.  sorry, but it just makes sense that to change the custom presets you would also have to change the presets themselves...which is part of the core program...which is your c drive.  make sense ?
pps...soooo, if you want, you could maybe move the program to a physical drive other than your OS drive ( which is generally not recommended but you could weigh this against the danger of using your SSD too much maybe ...)

  • Preset file location; I've got a mess

I've got a set of Preset folders in my C:\Users\Bob\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom directory (Windows 7 64 bit); Lightroom.exe is in a nearby folder.  I have another set of Preset folders with the same names in my F:\Lightroom\Lightroom Settings drive; I have placed my Lightroom Catalog file and Previews folder in that F:\Lightroom folder and my Lightroom Catalog Backup folder is alongside.  Many of the Preset Folders on the C:\...path share the same date, probably the date when I installed v5.3.  But, several have dates in the past few weeks or months, indictating that recent preset changes I've made are being stored there.  Many folders on the F:\ drive have older dates, in common, but some have dates in recent weeks.  These most recent ones appear connected with Plug-Ins I've recently installed and used.
The dual sets of folders are possibly due to my changing my Preferences Preset tab by un-checking the "Store presets with this catalog" box a year or ago for reasons I no longer remember, probably based on advice from some guru.  It now makes more sense to me to have the presets with the catalog, but I won't change this setting again until I understand what's happening and how to deal with it.
Should I (and can I?) merge these two sets of folders, over-writing with the newer where there are conflicts and then deleting one set?  I've read other postings here that seem to indicate that LR will generate a new set of these folders if one is missing.  The dates corresponding to my newly-installed plug-in seem to indicate that the plug-in has a different opinion than Lightroom.exe on where preset files should be stored.
My inclination is to check the "store presets with catalog" box again, merge all the Preset folders from my C: path to the F: path, and then delete them from the C: drive.  Will this work, or cause trouble?
    Advice, please.

If I were you, I'd merge the presets, then *un*check "store presets with catalog" (and then you can delete the preset copies in with catalog if you want - no harm will be done, although consider a backup first ;-}).
In my opinion, "Store presets with catalog" should only be used if you keep your catalog on an external drive which you swap between computers.
PS - A great tool for doing the merging is Scooter Software's Beyond Compare.

  • Disk Location of Presets in Lightroom 3

Where are the preset files (Metadata, Develop, etc.) files located on the hard disk under Windows?  I would like to sinc my main compuer settings with my laptop.
    Thank you.
    Steve

If you go to preference in LR and select Presets, Show Lightroom Presets folder.....it will take you directly to the Lightroom folder in explorer/finder.
On Windows 7 this is user/username/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Lightroom

  • Application can't locate Impuse Response Files

I recently replaced my failed hard drive. After restoring from my backup, Logic can not locate impulse response files. If i am loading a preset in space designer, or loading a software instrument that has the space designer set, Logic tells me it can not find the response file and asks me to find it.
I know the location of the files, but it is annoying and inconvenient to have to locate the files every time I want to change instruments or load a preset.
How can I get Logic to permanently remember the location of the Impulse Response Files?

There is no such path System/Library/application support/logic/impulse responses on my computer. The Impulse Response files reside in HD>Lib>Audio>Impulse Response.
This difference of opinion between bill borez and immo gave me an idea, though. I put an alias of the folder into User>Lib>Application Support>Logic. Bingo!
    Thanks for the help.

how can i stop an error message that comes up when i am using word? the error message is "word is unable to save the Autorecover file in the location specified. Make sure that you have specified a valid location for Autoreover files in Preferences,…"

It sounds like if you open Preferences in Word there will be a place where you can specify where to store autorecover files. Right now it sounds like it's pointing to somewhere that doesn't exist.

  • Why is it that when I try to open a project, it says "the project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type"?

Try assigning Queen as the Album Artist on the compilations in iTunes on your computer.

I have tried a few things but iTunes closes right after i click okay. Anyone know anything?

Look in your Home > Music folder.  There should be an iTunes folder there and it should have a number of files and folders including one called library.itl  You want to guide iTunes to that file.  If you don't see that file or folder then in your next post you will have to be very specific as to what you do see or how you have your iTunes set up because that's where it should be according to default settings.

  • I need help every time my iTunes library updates i get this error messege: The iTunes.itl file cannot be found or created. The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder. but the file should be there.

Every time I have to upgrade iTunes it gives me this messege:'The default location for this file is in the "iTunes" folder in the "Music" folder.' the file should be there but I don't understand why it does this every time Apple upgrades the Itunes library. Its on the computer somewhere but it only affects this login on my computer (meaning on this Windows Account). Why does my iTunes do this? Then I have to spend hours placing all my libraries back together and all my music back into the library. Which usually takes me a few days to sort all out. What is wrong with my iTunes? The iTunes folder is a folder in my Music folder where I store the iTunes music/files/libraries at on my computer so I can have all of the iTunes files in one place on my computer.

I have a Windows 7 operating system my computer runs from.
