Location of Spellcheck Dictionary

Is there any way to change the default location of the
Dreamweaver CS3 spellcheck dictionary?
We have three developers using Dreamweaver, and it would be
great if they could all use the same dictionary, instead of three
separate ones that are not in sync.

Click to Edit > Preferences and click into the section called Dictionary. You will see it listed at the top of the dialog box.

  • Who changed my Firefox spellchecker dictionary?

Well, tonight I finally found the answer to something that's been puzzling me for months ... but that answer raises a further question.
Some time ago, I noticed that when I posted to Facebook, my writings were getting spellchecked for what appeared to be British English (oh, BTW, I'm American). For example, if I typed "color," or "aluminum," the word would be red-squiggly-underlined, but not so for "colour" or "aluminium." I thought it was a Facebook feature (or bug), but tonight I noticed the same thing was happening with my e-mail. So I realized it must be something on my system. So I checked my environment variables, and found:
    $ echo $LC_ALL
    $ echo $LC_MESSAGES
    $ echo $LANG
    en_US.utf8
... pretty much as it should be. Then I went to about:config in Firefox, and lo and behold, spellchecker.dictionary was set to en_ZW. Oh. Zimbabwean English?! And supposedly, this was a "user set" value. So I'm wondering how this might have happened. Yes, it's conceivable I might have done it--that I was just playing around one night. But I have no memory of having done so. And, yeah, I'm 50 years old and usually don't get enough sleep, so who knows? But I certainly have no good reason to use Zimbabwean English, and as far as I can recall it never occurred to me until tonight that such a dialect existed.
So if it wasn't me, then who? My wife certainly wouldn't have known how to do that, nor would it be like her to play a joke like that. My 11-year-old son? Hmm. I could see him doing that kind of thing, but I don't think he knows how.
Okay then, maybe somebody hacked into my system? Not impossible, but it would be kind of strange if they hacked in just to change my dictionary setting. Remember, this has been happening for several months, and I haven't noticed anything else unusual.
So, my question is, other than me or someone impersonating me logging into my system and changing that parameter, is there any other way it could have happened?

http://www.archlinux.org/news/initscrip … -required/ maybe? Not that I see how it would be possible but if Zimbabwe invaded US ... ;-)

  • How to install new spellcheck dictionary?

Can someone point me to the right direction on how to install Greek spellcheck dictionary on Pages? Ideally I am looking for a native solution and not a third-party software.
Not sure what you mean by "native" -- what Apple has to offer is already present, and Greek is not included. Pages uses the OS X system spell checker.
You may be able to get a greek dictionary from either CocoAspell or OpenOffice 2 that will work in the OS X spell checker:

  • How to delete words from the spellcheck dictionary?

i accidentally added a word to the spellcheck dictionary when i try to click the recommended work, instead, i clicked "add to dictionary".
how can i reset or delete that word?
am i able to do so?

    I have OS X 10.5.3
I still cannot make FireFox unlearn the word "detnal" which is screwupese for "dental". BTW as I write this, the word "detnal" is not underlined while FireFox and screwupese are underlined.
I went into TextEdit and saw that it allowed "detnal". There was NO right click option called "Unlearn Spelling". What I did was click on "dental". and it then underlined "detnal" to my surprise.
I then quit firefox and restarted firefox and it still likes "detnal". It doesn't underline it.
I went to /Users/nicole/library/Application Support/firefox/profiles and could not find the file persdict.dat
Is there a way to search all files on the computer that contain the string "detnal" in it? There has to be a file somewhere containing "detnal".
<Apple-F> on Finder is useless. It says there is no persdict.dat file anywhere and there are not files anywhere on the computer containing "detnal".
    I'm stumped at this point.

  • Facebook sets the value of spellchecker.dictionary to ru_RU every time I start entering text (language doesn't matter) in a textbox on FB

Facebook sets the value of <spellchecker.dictionary> to <ru_RU> every time I start entering text (language doesn't matter) in a textbox on FB.
FF: Firefox 20.0 - Mozilla Firefox for Linux Mint
    OS: Linux Mint 13
I haven't noticed any other website I use causing that problem: all of them use the predefined (in prefs.js) value of <spellchecker.dictionary> and don't change it unless I change the speller language manually.
The only way I can change the value of <spellchecker.dictionary> back to <en_US> is manually choosing English in context menu of a textbox, or editing "prefs.js", every time Facebook messes it up.
Why does FB always sets <spellchecker.dictionary> to <ru_RU>???
    My default locale is "en-US": <general.useragent.locale> = "en-US".
    Please help.

Websites should not be able to change a pref setting.<br />
Only an extension can do this.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

What is the order of the installed languages?

  • I have downloaded the spellchecker & dictionary (U.S.)--it is showing in my add-ons--however it is NOT working--WHY??

I added United States English Spellchecker (U.S.) 5.0.1.-it is in my add-ons, spellcheck is checked in tools options-and I restarted firefox after it said 'successful'--however, it still does not work.
Is there anything else I need to do?
    Please Help!
    TY

Firefox has a spellchecker as standard feature, no need to install it. <br />
Plus, the '''''en-US''''' version of Firefox comes with a spellcheck dictionary.
See if this helps you - https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Using+the+spell+checker
''BTW, if you installed the SpellBound add-on, did you read the instructions? It doesn't do in-line spell checking as the default spellchecker does.''

  • Can you edit the spellcheck dictionary in iPad?

I notice the dictionary in Pages spells things differently than I do (Jargon etc.) Is there a way to update the dictionary files? Thanks.

    Doug-
One of the threads on the right side of this page has a hint for a Mac computer:  <Can words be added to spellcheck list?>  I don't know if it is adaptable to the iPad.
Someone in a different thread suggested you add your word as a fake name in your contacts list, since such names are not challenged by the spell checker.  I have not tried it.

  • How do I change the spellcheck dictionary in OS Mavericks?

The spellcheck works well and I don't want to disable it. However it is extremely anoying for those of us living in Oklahoma as it constantly tries to change OK (as in Oklahoma) to Okay. I tried to edit the dictionary as instructed for previous versions of OS, but I cannot find the database or am using the wrong program to open it.

Doesn't change it for me.  OK is "OK".  Even if I run Spell Check Now, it does not show any errors.

  • System-wide Medical Spellchecker Dictionary

    Hello all,
Perhaps you can help me...I'd like to use Stedman's Plus Spellchecker (http://www.stedmans.com/product.cfm/549/null) system-wide, but it only works for microsoft office 2004 currently. I understand that it may be a binary file of some kind, but I would like to extract the words from the file and add them to my "en" dictionary w/in ~/Library/Spelling. How can I convert the file to get it to function as a system-wide medical spell checker?
    Thanks!

Those are a few for a start. The problem is not as rare as one might think if one saunters around the other threads.
I will try your suggestion of making another user account to see if it works. However, even if it does, it is far from an ideal solution as I only want one account from which to work in.
    Thanks.

  • No Mail spellcheck dictionary for "Check Spelling When I Click Send" option

Since installing 10.6 and 10.6.1, there are no correct spelling options for my misspelled words when I click on send. Instead, the spellcheck window opens up and says it can't find the dictionary. Yes, the Mail Composing Preference is set on "Check spelling when I click send". My friends who have updated to 10.6 and 10.6.1 are also having the same problem. Any ideas on how to fix the problem? Thanks.

Open System Preferences ->Language & Text and click on the "Text" pane. What does it say there for "Spelling"?
I've found that sometimes if I leave it on "Automatic" it doesn't seem to give suggestions, but if I select a dictionary, say "U.S. English", I do.

  • Apple Mail Spellcheck Dictionary?

An earlier post suggested System Preferences > Keyboard > Text to access and then edit incorrect spellings in my dictionary. My keyboard pane does not have a "text" button.
So...any other thoughts as to how to delete/change incorrect spellings in the spellcheck program for Mountain Lion mali?

I added a word in a Mail message and it's saved in the LocalDictionary file.
Since you are not seeing the Text tab, let's first test in a new User.
Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups
    Create a new User
Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar
    Log into the new User
You can skip the setup for entering iCloud info. Hit continue > skip.
    Open System Preferences
Do you see the Text tab in Keyboard?
Let me know what you find in the new User.

  • How do I locate the personal dictionary on CS6 MAC?

I need to edit the personal dictionary on Dreamweaver CS6  on a MAC (OSX MAVERICK) .   I have seed several ways to find it on a PC and trawled though all the folders and done many searches but to ho avail. Any suggestions?
Yes I did search the forum first but nothing so far in any previous answers has worked.

    Correct path!!!  (almost )
    on mine it is:-
Mac OSX > Macintosh HD:username > Library > Application Support > Adobe > Linguistics > UserDictionaries > Adobe Custom Dictionary > your language of choice (there are a bunch > added.txt or exceptions.txt
and the commands for turning the hidden files off and on in are as shown here
    http://osxdaily.com/2009/02/25/show-hidden-files-in-os-x/
Reading to to the bottom tells you how to hide them again... :-)
I had to do a bit more pruning of the dictionary than I though :-(
Jon Fritz II Many thanks for the help.

  • Is there a way for the basic ENGLISH spell check dictionary to auto update? Its really annoying to have to update the spellcheck dictionary everytime FF updates

Every time FF updates, it forces me to download and install the spell check dictionary for English. It makes me just choose to use another browser since more often than not its opening facebook and I like spell check when I use fb. Is there any solution?

What Firefox locale do you use?
Is that the en-US version or another locale like the French locale?
You shouldn't lose installed dictionaries and other installed extensions when you update Firefox unless you would reset Firefox or a new profile got created for other reasons like problem with the profiles.ini file.
Are there otherwise problems with updating that you notice?
Note that in case you do not need all four French dictionaries then you can remove others and only keep the ones you need.
You can find the dictionary files in the dictionaries folder of the extension in the extensions folder in the Firefox profile folder or possibly in the Firefox program folder if you use a French Firefox locale (don't know if that locale includes a dictionary).
    *[email protected]
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • Spellcheck dictionary doesn't even have "firefox"!

You'd think the built-in dictionary used for spell-checking in firefox would contain the word firefox!

I guess you're right, I should write Firefox, not firefox.
I like the spell-checker in thunderbird better because you can add a word to your personal copy of the dictionary with one click.

  • How can I set a permanent default language for Firefox's spellcheck feature, so that I don't have to keep manually selecting the spellcheck language I want?

I have a few languages installed, and Firefox's spellcheck seems to decide which language to use ''at random''. So I have to keep manually selecting the language I want. 99% of the time I want English. So how can I set English as a permanent default language, and leave the manual selection for those infrequent occasions when I want another language spellchecked?

Firefox should store the last used dictionary in the spellchecker.dictionary pref that you can check on the about:config page.

If you do not keep changes after a restart then see:
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Preferences+are+not+saved
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
