Location of the SMC Reset button in a Mac Pro

I'm having trouble finding the SMC reset button.
+The hatter+ said, "use the SMC RESET button inside, under drive #4. "
This page http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304123 said;
"Another way to reset the SMC on a Mac Pro computer is:
From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
Open and remove the metallic outer door.
Press the SMC_RST switch that is located slightly below and to the right of the row of diagnostic LEDs. Use a non-metallic, non-conductive object, such as a wooden pencil.
Replace the metallic outer door.
Press the power button to start up your computer."
I can't see any row of LED's - can't even see one inside there...
Can anyone help me with the location of this button?
Thanks

It is as small or smaller than the eraser on a pencil.
It is easier to see with a flashlight and with the case over on its side, and pull out drive #4.
I thought Apple had a page with a circle around it in the tiny pdf or manual that came with the unit. They should have it in the tech note.
and if you have a PCI card in the top slot, someone said they had to remove it to get access.

I would do another SMC reset. If nothing changes you should take the computer in to an Apple store for a free diagnostic. You should make an appointment.

  • HT3964 Finally got to the reset SMC step and this worked. Powered the Mac Book Pro A1150 on the following morning and again grey screen and this time the SMC reset refuses to work!

After following the Apple knowledge base support notes on resetting the SMC I finally got to the reset SMC step and this worked. Powered the Mac Book Pro A1150 back up on the following morning and again grey screen and this time the SMC reset refuses to work!
The battery still as before indicates not charging and no lights on the battery pack confirm this along with the system profiler which suggests the battery should be replaced. The charger itself actually works ok.
Any further advice would be useful.

    Replace the battery.

I did the SMC reset for my iMac intel-based and now it won't turn on. What can I do to fix this?

Well, first things first... is the power cord fully plugged into the back of the iMac (and the wall, for that matter)?
Make sure the wall outlet has power, too... I've scratched my head over stupid issues where I forgot to flip a wall switch.
If the outlet does have power, then try doing a pram zap. Command + option + P + R (hold those at startup).
If the machine is receiving power, you should be able to see some LEDs if you look through the bottom grate of the machine to the left of the RAM door.

  • Powermac G5 quad - where ist the SMU-Reset Button?

my G5 quad is very fast, but too loud. The Main Logic Board Backside Fan increases speed after maximal 5 Minutes up to 3000 rpm, even if the quad really does nothing. I tried to reset the SMU by removing the power cord, but no difference.
An Apple instructor sent me this:
"To reset the SMU on a Power Mac G5 (Late 2005) computer, either use the steps listed above for the Power Mac G5 (Late 2004) or:
Turn off the computer by selecting Shut Down from the Apple menu or by holding the power button until the computer turns off.
Open and remove both the metallic outer door and the inner plastic air deflector.
Remove the fan assembly immediately to the left of the processor module.
Press the SMU reset button on the logic board.
Replace the fan assembly, air deflector, and outer door.
    Turn on the computer."
…but I can't find the SMU reset button. Can anybody help me?

    Hello
Choose "turn off" in the Apple menu, unplug the power cord, open the side door, unplug the lower fan, put your hands on the Quad Tower Case before you touch the SMU Button, then push the button only one time.
Here is a Picture from a Dual-Core 2.0, should be on the same place:

Apples Knowledgebase Article says it works also like for older Late 2004 G5's. A little confusing for me.

  • Smc reset not working on macbook pro mid 2010

    Hello all,
I have all the problems indicating i need to reset the smc: fans running at full speed, mac doesn't go to sleep when closing lid, battery not seen by computer. this all happend in the process of changing the hdd and reinstalling 10.8.3.
When i try to reset the smc, the led on the charger does not blink or anything, and none of the above problems are fixed, but the computer is extremely slow when started after this reset (mouse lacking etc.).
However if i hold down shift, ctrl and option and release them before the power button, and then release the power button after a few seconds, the computer run perfectly fast, but still none of the above problems are fixed.
Any ideas how i can do a succesfull smc reset?

I have an update: the Smc reset actually helps away all the things except, the battery still cant be seen. But suddenly after about a minute, the fans speed up and the computer becomes extremely slow again. Also i noticed that the sleep indicator blinks 5 times before startup. What does that mean?

  • Can't reset alert sound on Mac Pro

Last night I set up my new Mac Pro. I reset the alert sound in system preferences, after setting the audio input and output to go through the Kona LHe card installed in the computer. But when I checked the alert sound in the menu bar, it was not the same sound I had set. I tried resetting the sound several times with no luck. Does a Kona card interfere with setting an alert sound of my own choosing? I tried having the alert sound go through the card as well as setting it to go through the internal speaker. Neither setting made any difference. It's a small annoyance but I would really like to hear the alert sound I desire.

Good grief!  I had not plugged the USB jack all the way into the headphone port on the iPod.  Having taken that action, the iPod shuffle works great.  My bad, as they say.

Any OS version of 10.8.4 or later has all features that are not OS depended. The plugins are one example. You probably haven't updated all versions of Logic Pro X to the latest one.

  • HT4628 I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken

I can not use the internal wireless card with my Mac pro 2012, I don't know if it is broken. The problem is happen recently, I have to use an independent wireless card now. Thanks!

When you enable Internet Sharing in OS X, you are creating a separate sub-net.
There is no option to allow this to be a simple pass-through from Ethernet to AirPort (or the other way).
The problem is easily solved by getting an inexpensive wireless router. You can replace your current router OR disable the DHCP server on the wireless router and allow the wireless clients to get an IP address from the current router.

  • What is the best product for keeping a mac pro running fast?

What is the best product for keeping my mac pro running at optimal speed?

Enough RAM. More than just so there are no pageouts.
A fast small SSD for boot system drive that is only OS and apps and 50% free
Backup clones of your system and data plus TimeMachine
Avoid security suites from 3rd parties and other would be helpers (unless instructed to for a specific need and purpose).
Replace and update older components. could be graphic card, no longer suffices wtih Lion, or causes heat and dust. And make sure that the fans cool the system properly. May need to boost the low default fan speed profile and that is one utility that can be a must. Also monitor system temp readings.
Don't jusst idly restart after a crash or freeze, use Lion Recovery Mode and Safe Boot instead.
Make backup clone before making updates and changes to your system.
