Location/search bar always searches Google US instead of AU

Whenever I search google using the location bar OR the search bar, the results are always from google.com. But I live in Australia, and want the Australian google results. Google performs searches normally every other way.
How can I force Firefox to use the AU search?
Thanks.

Try [http://www.google.com.au/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= http://www.google.com.au/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q= ] http://www.google.com.au/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=
Note the space at the end, this is needed for the search to work.

  • I lost my locator URL bar and my google window at top right of screen

Can not type a new address as there is no longer a Locator (URL) Window at top center of my browser. I can't type the address of a web site, and that's serious. Not so serious my Google search window at right top corner is gone, but if I had that I might find a way to recover the locator bar. HELP!

If the menu bar is hidden then press the F10 key or hold down the Alt key, that should make the menu bar appear.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible: "View > Toolbars"
    * If items are missing then open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"
    * If a missing item is in the toolbar palette then drag it back from the Customize window on the toolbar
    * If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up.

  • My search bar doesn't send me to google and instead sends me to a website with just that word in it or it tells me that website doesn't exist, how do I fix?

When I try to use the url search bar to look for things on google, it instead sends me to a website with the name of that url. Like if I type in 'cats' it sends me to cats.com and I want it to send me to a list of google search results like it used to. And if I type in anything longer than one word it tells me the website can't be accessed. I don't want to be sent to a website and when I change the settings, nothing will send me to google.

Sounds that you aren't using the search bar, but the location bar and that the actual search bar is missing.
Make sure that toolbars like the "Navigation Toolbar" and the "Bookmarks Toolbar" are visible:

  • How can I change the default country Google uses when I search for things on the search bar on the Google Chrome app for the iPad 2?

  • I can no longer search in the address bar, yahoo, or google. Help

Not able to search in the address bar, yahoo search, google, and no google mail, or anything that I don't already have a link to in my most visited list or email i have received from them. I can't copy and paste because i'm writing you on my desktop. My notebook is Windows 7 home addition.

Current Firefox versions use the default search engine that is set in the search bar as well for searching via the location bar and on the about:home page.
You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extension (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • My Location/Search Bar has no memory. It does not remember what I type in.

My Location/Search Bar has no memory. It does not remember what I type in it when I am doing Google Searches. I have had this problem for over a week now.

I guess I would call it the "Google.com" Web Site. It is the horizontal bar/box in the middle of the screen (not at the top). Whenever I would do a Google Search, whatever name I typed in that box would stay there until I manually deleted it. Now, nothing stays in that box. Can you figure out why?

  • I want google as my search engine, not Bing. How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default?

I want google as my search engine, not Bing. But no matter what I do in "Manage Search Engines," Firefox seems to reset to "Search the Web," which uses Bing.
How do I make Google the default search engine in the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar; or, how do I remove the "Search the Web" feature of the search bar so that "Google" can be default? When I move "Search the Web" down and "Google" up, the search bar resets every time Firefox reloads.

Sometime Bing is not located in the Add/Remove programs section of the control panel.
6 Easy Steps to Remove Bing from Mozilla Firefox:
    1. Click on the "inverted triangle" located to the right of the orange Bing icon.
    2. Select the option "Manage Search Engines...". (A pop-up window will appear titled "Manage Search Engine List.)
    3. Select "Bing".
    4. Click the "Remove" button.
    5. Select the desired search engine from the list.
    6. Click "OK"
    All Done.... :-)
    Happy Searching...

  • Search Hijack. My search has been hijacked by Yahoo. My search is set up for Google, and when I type in the bar is say google.co.uk, but a yahoo page still comes up.

My search is set up correctly for Google, when I type a search "google.co.uk" is there in blue, but still a Yahoo search comes up on the web page.
Help to stop this would be greatly appreciated.

From the Safari menu bar, select

Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.

  • Right-click "Search Google" always launches Safari

I don't know if it was an app I installed or if it is a Leopard feature, but if I right click on text from just about any app, I can "Search Google". For example, in Textedit, Word, an email.
It always launches the search in Safari however even though FF is my default browser.
Is there a way to change it so search results come up in FF?

  • The 'Search Google for' context menu is opening search results in a foreground tab, instead of a background tab. This started today when I upgraded to FF 13beta

I just upgraded to Firefox 13 beta. Previously when I use the 'Search Google for' context menu - (the menu item is shown when you select any text on a page and right click on it) - the search results page would open in a background tab. Now after the upgrade, seach results page is opening in the foreground. Really annoying :(
I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu 11.04

I see this change as well if I use the right-click context menu on Linux, so I can confirm what you see.<br />
I don't know why this was changed and how to undo this new behavior.

  • When I select a part of a text and click in "Search Google", a new tab is opened. I don't like the switch. I want the search result in a background page.

When I select a part of a text in a page, use the right button of mouse and click in "Search Google for "the text"", I want a new tab open in a NEW TAB BACKGROUND. How do I set that? Thanks.

Ok, I found a reply about it in
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/952403
"hello, its possible to achieve this through the settings in firefox - just enter '''about:config''' into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.search.context.loadInBackground'''. double-click it and change its value to '''true'''. "
    Thanks!

  • Firefox upon opening an image in a new tab, centers the image from top and bottom and surrounds the image with a grey frame. Just started having the problem today, searched Google to no avail.

Firefox upon opening an image in a new tab, centers the image from top and bottom and surrounds the image with a grey frame. Just started having the problem today, searched Google to no avail.

Oh wow, looks like a new feature.
The "page" links in a stylesheet with the address "resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css". If you remove that reference, then the image displays in the old style.
'''''Edit: Please skip the rest of this post and check out the next one.'''''
There might be a more elegant solution than that, but you could use a bookmarklet to strip out that link when you want to view the page in its old style. A bookmarklet is a snippet of JavaScript you save on the Bookmarks toolbar for quick access.
First, copy the following code to the clipboard (it's all one long line):
    <br>javascript:var ssheet=document.querySelector('link[href="resource://gre/res/TopLevelImageDocument.css"]'); if(ssheet)ssheet.parentNode.removeChild(ssheet); void 0;
Next, if you are not displaying the Bookmarks Toolbar, use View > Toolbars > Bookmarks Toolbar to display it. (If you aren't using the classic Menu bar, press Alt+v to call up the old View menu. Right-clicking the gray area just below the page address also allows you to display the Bookmarks Toolbar.)
Right-click on the Bookmarks Toolbar (or Mac equivalent of right-click!) and choose New Bookmark.
Paste the code into the Location box (the second box).
Then type a useful name in the Name box (e.g., Oldstyle Picture) and click Add.
Now, when you want to tweak the image display, click the button to run the script.
Manual clicking is a hassle, so it might make sense to look into other solutions. (Greasemonkey didn't seem to work; I think it might not run on .jpg files.)

  • Search Google Powered Search Now Uses Bing

For some reason when I select a word on a web page, right click and select the "Search Google Powered Search" for ___, it now uses the Bing search engine instead of Google and takes me to the Bing site. I have checked my add on's and the keyword.url and I find no reason for this to occur. Yesterday it worked fine and today it does not. As I am typing, I realize I just installed Quickbooks Pro today. I'll check what got installed, but that is the only change. Oh, I consistently run Firefox in the private browing mode.

It has gotten worse. The search bar states that it is a "Google Powered Search", but now it diverts to Bing. That happened after I disabled private browsing. Moreover, Bing is not even listed as a search engine when I go to Manage search engines.
