Location service seems cannot work

I'm using iPod Touch 4th gen. Just upgrade to iOs5. But the location service seems cannot work. I've enabled Location Services on setting, also connect to wi-fi network. I can browse the internet, but can not use maps to find my location. Neither on weather application. The local weather is failed to update. Also in facebook place or twitter, and camera apps, or anything that used location-based. The purple-arrow icon (usually appear to show that location service is working) is disappear on top bar. What can I do to enable this? Looking for help. Thank you very much.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. Thus, it appears that the iPod can't see a nearby router that is in Apple's database. Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.
You can confirm that by going to place with a know located router like Starbucks or McDonalds

You can't delete the update and your problem probably is not in the Update.
Check to see if Location Services is turned ON. (Settings > Privacy > Location Services)
What model iPad Mini do you have? WiFi or WiFi + Cellular
Have you recently changed WiFi routers?

  • IPhone 6 location services/gps not working

Anyone else have an issue with iPhone 6 location services/gps not working? I have had it happen to me twice where it stopped working for good 7 or 8 hours and then all of sudden it starts working again. For example, directions don't work, every time I open Apple Maps it will say "Cannot determine location", then when I press the location icon on the bottom left, it will try to search again and have an approximate location but not exact, where as the iPad that I have right next to it is able to pin point the exact location. Sometimes the location circle is pulsing blue sometimes its gray. If I am driving and have tracking on it won't track, and so on.  I have tried to setup the phone as new without restoring the backup, when it stopped working with no luck, it still didn't work. I went and restore it back from backup and few hours later it started to work again. This has happened twice now since I got the phone last Friday.

Check your "Privacy" settings on your iPhone see what apps are using your location.

  • Location services don't work even though they are on

My location services do not work even though they are switched on. When I ask Siri something that requires my location it tells me to turn on location services and Siri but they are already on.

For location the iPod uses the location nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's data base. You do not have to be connect to the router.
Thus, it appears that the router the iPod is using does not have the correct location in Apple's database. Apple continuously updates their database based on data it obtains from iPhones. No one has found a way to tell apple to correct/add a wifi router to their database.
To test this, go to another location/another network like Starbucks and see if location work there

  • Location services no longer working after 4.3.3 update.

I have a 3rd Gen 32GB touch, and after updating the software today, my location services no longer work. My device fails to find my location for the maps app, as well as other 3rd party apps. There was no problem with finding my location prior to this update, and other devices on my network aren't having an issue pinpointing a location either.
I have tried restoring my iPod as well as turning the location services on and off.
Any help would be greatly appreciated (:

I have the same iTouch and have experienced the same problemafter updating the software.
If you go to Settings>Location Services and it says “ON yet it’s gray and faded, please read on.
    Go to Settings>General>Restrictions (Enter Passcode)>Allow Changes:Location
The page should have something that would say “Allow Changes”, “Don’t AllowChanges”….and some of the 3rd party apps that need location servicesas you mentioned listed below. Tap “Allow Changes” and slide “Location Services”ON. Then manually slide the 3rd party apps that you want to enableLocation Services to ON.
Then, you’re good. Hope it works out. Frustrating, I know.

  • Location services is stopped working after upgrading to iOS 5

Hi, Location services is not working after upgrading to iOS 5. How can i switch it on?

Try resetting the iPod.  I had to do that to get my iPod to show via FindMyiPod.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • TS3274 How come My location services aren't working, I've reset the location warnings.

How come My location services aren't working, I've reset the location warnings.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby routers that are in Apple's database of routers and their location. Thus it appears that Apple's database is incorrect. You do not have to be connected to the router, just within range.
Apple periodically updates their database based on information they obtain from iPhones, The iPhone has to have turned on the option to send info to Apple. no one has found another way to get the location of a router added/corrected.
You can confirm that by going to well-know place with wifi like Starbucks or McDonalds

  • My iPad Air has the latest software update, since that the location services are not working! What to do? Even my friend's iPod has the same problem. Our version is iOS 7.1.2. I think that the services have stopped working since iOS 7.0.4.

My iPad Air has the latest software version(iOS 7.1.2) update, since that update the location services have stopped working. have a solution?

I have had the same problem, so many apps do not work properly without it! Apple says the internet satellite, the Internet satellite says Apple, back and forth with the blame instead of fixing the problem. Have turned location on and off, reset everything multiple times ( lots of hours and bandwidth to download ), Siri is now working part time, I guess she has cut back her hours for the summer. Even in these forums was suggested to check with Skyhook who does the global positioning, and after hours with them, they ended up saying that they have nothing to do with it anymore, Apple does. All to no avail and much frustration! I wonder if this is happening with the iPhone's? i'd like to know if this is happening with others that do not use satellite as their ISP? That would help narrow down the argument with Apple vs. satellite. Fell for you! Someone please help us! Ta

  • Location services do not work when my MBP or iPad are in the basement

I thought location services work based on wifi, yet my MBP when in the basement even though it is on wifi location services won't work. The same with my iPad wifi, in the basement the location services are unavailable. The iPhone, however location services work fine deep in the basement. I am trying to understand this, could anyone explain. This wasn't a problem with OS Mavericks that I remember.

Location services works based on there being a known WiFi access point in the Apple Access Point database.
While not in the basement, you are likely seeing neighboring WiFi access points which are geo-located as opposed to yours which apparently is not.
I have heard that the database gets populated by iPhone and cellular iPads being located by cellular, then associating that location with WiFi access points visible to the iDevice.
I also believe they used the SkyHook Wireless database at one time, and may still do so. http://www.skyhookwireless.com/submit-access-point
You can submit your WiFi Access Point and geo-location which may or may not help.

  • TS3274 Location service  is not working on iPad retina

Location service is not working I tried everything
Is it hardware of software problem

Your Wi-Fi only iPad do not have GPS.
It gets it position from Apple's router data base. Your location may not be in the data base.

  • Bought a new router location services will not work hooked up old router location services came right back on

bought a new linksys router location services will not work on i-pad hooked old router back up and it started working again linksys was no help

WiFi iPads determine location through a database of router locations. Your new one is not in the database, give it some time and it will be added.

  • My location service is not working from the day one the response is that (cannot able to determine the location) .What can i need to do to see my location in maps and other application even the location services is enabled in the settings?

From the day one the response is that (cannot able to determine the location) while using ios5.1 .What can i need to do to see my location in maps and other application even the location services is enabled in the settings?.Which means that is there is any problem in my ipad ? currently running on IOS 6.

Your location is determined from a location database which contains the MAC addresses of routers and their physical location. A MAC address is a unique number which is built-in to all network devices when manufactured. The database is built and updated by actually driving around and mapping router locations.
Since you just moved the location of your router has not been updated in the database and when you use Maps you will see your old location.
If you go outside your house you can be correctly located because your iPod sees other routers which are in the location database. Note that you do not need to be connected to a router for your iPod to see it and obtain its MAC address.

  • Iphone 4s 5.0.1 location services don't work (broken)

Hello, I have an iPhone 4S that orginally came with iOS 5. Initially, the Location Services (GPS) functions were working fine as I played with some apps using them. I think I turned the Location Serivces off to save battery and updated to iOS 5.0.1 directly from the phone. After updating, when turining on the location services, the seetings seem to turn on, but any app using Location Services / GPS (like the built in Maps application) is not able to determine the current position, and no GPS poistions readings at all. Also the purple icon near the clock in the upper bar of the screen isn't ever showing.
Is there anyone else having similar issues?

    Many have several issues....

  • Location Services suddenly stopped working (since v3.2.2?).  Suggestions?

I have a 64gb WiFi only model. Until today, location services were working quite well (considering it isn't a 3G model) but today they are not.
I tethered my ipad to the Macbook today (I seldom do this) and received the v3.2.2 update, which could be the culprit. I had also been trying to connect to a verizon MiFi card last night (unsuccessfully) and suppose that could have changed some sort of setting.
In trying to fix it I have done the following (based on suggestions in other threads):
    - rebooted iPad - didn't help
    - turned Location Services off, then back on again - didn't help
    - Reset network Settings - didn't help
    - Reset Location Warnings - didn't help
    - Reset ALL Settings - didn't help
    - checked "find my iPad" through MobileMe - I ccould send a msg to the iPad, but still can't locate it
    - restored to factory settings then restored from backup. Unfortunately, the only backup I could restore from was one from this morning. that didn't help either
WiFi signal from AirPort Extreme is strong (and unchanged) and I have no problems connecting to the internet. All of the apps that require location, including MobleMe Find my iPad, inform me that my "current location is unavailable".
I have seen a few threads about this, but none in the last week or so. Has anyone had this problem and successfully resolved it?

Thanks.. but not everyone experiences the same issues. My "research" seems to indicate that the upgrade is the culpret.
I have had the iPad since May with absolutely no issues on any network, including my home wifi network. To see if my network could have been the problem, I took the iPad to the local Starbucks today where I have always had good service (um... wifi service, not coffee service). I even sat at the same table I usually sit and although I was able to connect to their wifi, I still had NO LOCATION SERVICES.
Guess I better make an appt. with the experts.
