Location Services empty option

Hello everyone ! Today I saw this in the Location Services menu under Settings. And I can't really tell what option is missing in the empty space, near the ON toggle switcher. I looked up for any app that requested my location so I could find it, but it didn't work. I have to mention that I have just restored my iPhone 4, and the only apps I installed are the following: Twitter, Find my iPhone, Find my Friends, iBooks and Dropbox. So, if you have an idea about getting this error fixed, please reply. Have a nice day !

If you have location services turned on, then yes it is using your A-GPS chip, though not as heavily as if you have an app open that is using location services.
I guess you'd say it's on and in a low power mode/state.
It's pretty much exactly like you said about Bluetooth how if you have it turned on and you don't have a device connected, it's still using power cause it's basically in a low power state waitin for a device to be connected.
As Apple themselves say if you want to extend your battery life and you are not using or you don't need location services for any of the apps that you currently have running then switch location services off.
This is because the iPhone's A-GPS chip is recieving power, even if it is in a low power state.
To put it simply, when it comes to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Location Services or even 3G ,(cause these are all battery drawing features), if you don't need it then turn it off and your battery will thank you for it.
I hope this helps

  • Location services not working in iOS 7

I updated my iPad to ios7 but I can't turn on location services, the option does not allow me to tur it on - I have tried restoring my iPad but it has made no difference - is anyone else having this issue?

Sounds like you have looked under settings privacy turn the selector to on then go to the next page and select the individual apps you wish to use this feature with?

  • IOS6 update disabled the option to disable/enable location services

I have updated to iOS6 (from the earlier latest iOS5.x.). I now notice that the option to Disable / Enable Location Sevices (global / application specific) is now not possible post this update to iOS6.
Note, I have already tried the "Rest Network Settings" and "Reset Location & Privacy" neither of which seem to have helped, reboot the iPhone does not help either. please advise if you came across this issue.

Go to settings/general/restrictions then look at location services and make sure it is set to allow changes

  • Why can't I access my location services options

I can't access my location services options. I've tried resetting them but not a full factory reset. I can go into the menu but all the applications are greyed out. Also in any apps it tells me to go to the settings menu which is 'frozen'. Anyone Have any suggestions

    Do you have restrictions set???
Settings - General -Restrictions...are yours on?

  • Location Services option

I have a quick question about the GPS settings on the iphone (Settings > General > Location Services) if you turn it off or on.
My question is this: does turning it on lock your GPS position (and thus reduce your battery life) only when an application requests it or all the time. I am starting suspect that it is constantly on because I am getting near instant satellite lock times even when indoors. I dont want to be walking around all day draining what precious battery life i get!
A good comparison here is WIFI and Bluetooth, even if you are not connected to a wireless network or a Car-kit your battery will die far quicker if the option is switched on.

  • Since IOS 7 downloaded the location services option is frozen

Since the processor upgraded from IOS 5 to IOS 7, the location services option button is frozen. How can I unfreeze this?

    Hello sardarali,
Thank you for providing so much detail about the issue you are experiencing with Location Services after upgrading to iOS 7.
The first thing I recommend is quitting and relaunching the applications on your iPhone:
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
You can find the full article here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
If you are still seeing the same issue after quitting and relaunching the apps on your iPhone, I recommend restarting your phone and then resetting if it's still not working:
    Restarting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Note: Reset your device only if you are unable to restart it.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
You can find the full article here:
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

If the issue persists, the last thing I recommend is backing up and restoring your iPhone:

  • Location services menu-enter a restrictions password option?

    Hi all,
Is there any way that my iPhone can prompt me to enter my restrictions password when I try and turn location services on or off from it's dedicated bar from the settings menu?
At the moment, if I only want myself to be able to turn location services on or off, I need to enter my password in the restrictions menu, then go to the location services menu, unselect "don't allow changes" to select "allow changes" and then change LS to on/off, and then select "don't allow changes" again to stop anyone else from changing it back.
If it can't somehow be done already, maybe it's something for iOS 5.02?
As lazy as it might sound, I don't find it very practical to keep on going through all the different options. I want to be able to quickly turn it on or off, depending on my situation. I would want LS on when i'm out & about, and off when I don't use my iPhone to save my battery (i.e. when i'm asleep).

The restriction passcode can not set itself. You, or someone with physical access to the phone had to set it. If you can't remember what it is, you will need to force it into recovery mode and restore it as a new device.  Do NOT restore your backup. The backup contains the restriction settings.

  • HT1975 Some of my apps and iphone info tells me to go to "settings" and in "settings" go to "location services" to enable apps such as a golf app to use gps .  When I go to "settings" there is no option called "location services". Why not?

Some apps and iphone info tells me to go to "settings" and in "settings" choose "location services".  Under settings on my phone there is no "location services". What's up with that?

Pick the appropriate link for the version of iOS installed on your device.
FYI, the iPhone 4S never ran iOS4 so the link from which the questions was posted is not relevant to your device.

  • How do I turn location services on when the option is greyed out?

I cannot turn the setting on. I have tried adjusting the restrictions settings as well. Help?!?!?!?!?

    I had the same problem.
Going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset all Settings
re-enabled the location services.  You'll have to go disable manually the ones you don't want on, maybe to save battery power, but this worked for me.

  • Is there a way to get a 'Location services' toggle in the new IOS 7.0 'swipe up'  options?

I used to have location services toggle in SB settings as i use my iPhone for Sat Nav so regularly switch the location services off and on
But the new IOS 7.0 doesnt have a location services' toggle
is there a way to put this toggle on the swipe up menu?
Or is there a shortcut to turn the location services on and off, instead of going to Settings, Privacy then location services, then off/on

The Control Center is not user adjustable. Location services, if you're not actively navigating, are not an incredibly huge battery drain, for what it's worth.

  • HT4995 I disabled location services at setup.  How do I now get it enabled?  The option to turn on is greyed  out.

I upgraded to iOS 5 and mistakenly opted not to activate location services.  It is now greyed out.  How do I now enable location services?

i tried allowing changes to both the account and location services in the restrictions area and I still cannot get the location services to enable.  Any other suggestions?  I'm so frustrated!

  • Is there a location aware wifi option (or app) that enables wifi at a specific location (home) and automatically disables it when you are away from the specified location?

I manually turn off my wifi when leaving home for several reasons:
    1. I don't want my wifi to be on and constantly scanning wifi networks while I am away from home due to privacy reasons.  Many retail stores and airports are now tracking users based on their smartphone's wifi pings.  They can then store your phone's MAC address (the unique identifier of your phone) to determine how often you visit the store and where you go within the store.  It's just a matter of time before they match up your phone's MAC address with your credit card/payment info and then to your identity.  The only way to subvert this is to turn off your phone's wifi.
    2. For security reasons: Wifi access points can track devices that broadcast their wifi signal, even if they don't ever actually connect to the access point's network.  These access points can then store your device's details including your phone's MAC address.  Once your phone's MAC address is discovered, it can be targeted by a hacker.  In addition, there are multiple well known hacker tools that can be used to scan for smartphone wifi signals in order to detect and then hack your iphone.  Bottom line: if your wifi is discoverable, then your device is hackable.
    3. I believe it would save battery life if the iphone's wifi is not on and constantly scanning for networks all the time.
There are other reasons as well, but the above are my 3 main reasons for asking about this.
The reminders app is location aware - you can set reminders to alert you when you are at a specific location.  So, why not provide the option (or an app) to only enable wifi when you are at home - or any other location where you have an authorized or trusted wifi?
As it is right now, the iphone's wifi is broadcasting 24/7 everywhere you go.  Not great for privacy & security.  When I turn off my wifi, the phone uses my 4G plan for data and GPS for location services... so wifi is not needed at all for data or location services while I am away from home (and no, wifi does not improve location accuracy, that is a fallacy... there is nothing within the wifi protocol that could ever improve location accuracy).  But the point is, wifi should have a location aware option.  Otherwise, it's just a matter of time before there is a headline story about how not having this feature is a huge security/privacy problem.

Understood.  However, the point that I'm trying to make is that it's not the WiFi access point's security that's in question, it's having your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode that's in question.  It's simple: if your phone's WiFi is on, then it is both discoverable and hackable... even when it's not connected to a WiFi network or access point.  Here's an article about a drone in London that was created to hack smartphone WiFi signals (and hackers have been doing what this drone does for years):
    http://money.cnn.com/2014/03/20/technology/security/drone-phone/
The point is that it's not  secure to have your phone's WiFi in an always-on mode.  It would be better for privacy and security if Apple made WiFi location aware so that it is only enabled when you are at a trusted location (e.g. your home or office).  Or, at least give us the option of location aware WiFi so that each user can determine the best mode for their phone:
    (1) Always-On (current default - not secure and many privacy issues).
    (2) Trusted mode (only on at trusted locations).
    (3) Off.
