  • What does it mean if my location services are turned on, but not working?

What does it mean if my location services are turned on, but not working?  It has always worked before.  It is turned on in Settings but when I try to use an app that requires location services, it says they are not on, and the little arrow is not appearing at the top of the screen.

thank you...I tried this immediately after noticing but to no avail. I thought the phone died but I kept seeing the light on so I googled some things and it says it may be watered damaged and I'm not sure how.

I cannot get the "Location Services" to turn back on on my Iphone 5.  It's like the button is stuck and will not move.  The others work

    Hello celina ambler,
You might need to restart your iPhone. If that doesn't do the trick, try resetting it.

  • Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID

Our Macbook air was lost or stolen shortly after initial setup / registration but  device location was not turned on.  Can MAc ID # be found through email linked during setup ?

The following has some recommendations from Apple of what to do if Find My Mac was not turned on before it was lost or stolen. The quote is from If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support
Find My Mac is the only Apple service that can help track or locate a lost Mac. If you didn’t set up Find My Mac before your Mac was lost, or you can’t locate it, these steps might help you protect your data:
Change your Apple ID password to prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your Mac.
Change your passwords for other accounts you use with your Mac, including email, banking, and social sites like Facebook or Twitter.
Report your lost or stolen Mac to local law enforcement. They might request the serial number of your computer. You can find this information on the original box or receipt you received when you purchased your Mac, or on Apple's My Support Profile site if you registered your Mac.

  • TS4006 "Find my IPhone" app on my iPad can't even locate the iPad I'm using. And I'm on a WiFi network and location services are turned on. Ideas?

I'm using the "Find my IPhone" app on my iPad and it can't even locate the iPad I'm using, not to mention the iPhone I'm looking for. They are both listed as devises, it just says they're both offline, which I know is wrong. I'm on a WiFi network and location services are turned on. Ideas?

  • I lost my ipod touch and it is connected to the internet but the location services are turned off anyway i could turn them on??

Hi, I was wondering if anybody here knows how to turn on location services without the ipod in your hand it is connected through find my iphone and it says its online but location services are turned off if anybody here knows or think they know it would be greatly appreciated

    No.
    - If you previously turned on the FIndMyiPod feature and location service is on, and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud, sign in, and go to FindMyiPhone. It the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - Report to police and change the passwords fro all accounts used on the iPod.
    - Apple will not help

That is what Activation Lock of iOS 7 does
In addition, it renders the iPhone totally useless to anyone who doesn't know your Apple ID and password.

  • When Location Services are turned off, does Find My iPhone still count as turned on?

Let's say I use iCloud, so I turned on Find My iPhone.
But, I like to save battery, so I turn Location Services off while Find My iPhone is enabled, and I understand completely that if Lost Mode is enabled, then Location Services are turned on and enable Find My iPhone.
    Scenario:
I go traveling. I lose my phone. It gets stolen. Location Services were turned off (I like to save battery). If the thief were to try to restore the phone, would he/she get a message saying "Find My iPhone is enabled. Please turn it off before restoring this iPhone."? OR, since Location Services are off, would the restore go on ahead without any confirmation?
This scenario is assuming I don't activate Lost Mode before the thief can plug the device into his/her computer and attempt a restore.
So when Location Services with Find My iPhone enabled are turned OFF, would Find My iPhone still be considered ON and therefore, give a confirmation message before any restoration?
I just want to verify that I'm still secure even when I turn off Location Services to save battery.
    Thanks for reading!

  • IOS 7 location services wont turn on.

IOS 7 location services wont turn on on my iphone 5. It was on before I upgraded to iOS 7 but now it is off and greyed out. Any ideas what may be wrong?

I had this problem and solved it by changing restrictions on Location Services from Settings>General>Restrictions>Location Services

  • Locations will not turn on iPad2

iPad2 locations will not turn on...HELP!!!

Close the Settings app and reset your iPad and then try again.
In order to close an app in iOS 7, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Location services not working on my iPad even though they are all turned on

I've tried everything but its still not working

It does not matter what you do or reset. The wifi-only iPad does not do location services well. You need an iPad with GPS to best take advantage of location services.

  • Location services not working on apps?

I didn't know where else to put this so I put it here.
I have an iPod Touch and an iPad and it's not showing my location on either of those.
It is turned on, so before you say that, yes. I'm not that stupid. It's also not restricted. It can't be a problem with my router because when I use my laptop, it shows the right location.
Why is it not working on my iPod and iPad? Please help me. It's incredibly frustrating because I use an app that requires location services and I haven't been able to use it because these devices can't find my location.
Does it have anything to do with a MAC address? I just changed my routers MAC address to "default" a few moments ago thinking that had something to do with it.
Just please help. It's worked before, but all of a sudden it just stopped.
Also, when I google "weather" on my iPod/iPad, it tells me where I am, but when I use apps, like Facebook, the popular apps near me, and Whisper, it says it can't find my location.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. It identifies the routers via their MAC address. So changing the MAC address is the cause of your problem
Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

  • Is it true Apple requires location services be turned on for photo uploading apps? If so, why?!

I can't think of one ethical reason why this should be mandatory information in regards to my photo storage online. I was told by Shutterfly, when I complained, that it was Apple's fault, not theirs. For real?

Any app that accesses existing photos or videos in your Camera Roll / Photos App must ask for access to location data because of the fact that the photos taken with other apps may have location data attached. This is a security measure put in place by Apple to protect your privacy.
If you're not convinced, try using an app that can either use existing photos or take a new one. If you turn off location services for the app in settings, you should get an error message when trying to load an existing image, but you should be able to take a photo in most apps like this without any issues.

  • Os x 10.9 location services not working on a 2008 mac pro

Maps and all other services that rely of my location are not working for me.
Do you have to have wifi for it to work?
I have turned on location services in sys prefs so that is not the problem.
Early 2008 Mac Pro (no wifi)
    OS X 10.9
    Any help is appreciated.

I have to turn off wi-fi and use ethernet (to make sure I have the fastest speed – the ethernet-speed – all the time). Why can't I define a location for my external IP-address at this location, so that Maps can use that location in location services?
Seems strange that there is no way to set your location though. Manually I mean. It is a desktop not a laptop so it doesn't move around.
You can set the Network priority to Ethernet, so even if you have both Ethernet and also Wi-Fi connected, it will use Ethernet.
That way you can leave Wi-Fi on for location services, but use your ethernet connection for the speed.
Go to System Preferences > Network
Select the gear wheel at the bottom and select the Set Service Order. Drag the connections in the order that you want to be priority.
