Location services not working on apps?

I didn't know where else to put this so I put it here.
I have an iPod Touch and an iPad and it's not showing my location on either of those.
It is turned on, so before you say that, yes. I'm not that stupid. It's also not restricted. It can't be a problem with my router because when I use my laptop, it shows the right location.
Why is it not working on my iPod and iPad? Please help me. It's incredibly frustrating because I use an app that requires location services and I haven't been able to use it because these devices can't find my location.
Does it have anything to do with a MAC address? I just changed my routers MAC address to "default" a few moments ago thinking that had something to do with it.
Just please help. It's worked before, but all of a sudden it just stopped.
Also, when I google "weather" on my iPod/iPad, it tells me where I am, but when I use apps, like Facebook, the popular apps near me, and Whisper, it says it can't find my location.

For location the iPod uses the location of nearby wifi routers that are in Apple's database. You do not have to be connected to the network/router to use that router's location. It identifies the routers via their MAC address. So changing the MAC address is the cause of your problem
Apple continuously updated their database based on info they obtain from iPhones. No one has been able to find a way to inform Apple of a router or correct is location.

  • Why does location services not work on my ipad2 with ios7?

Why does my wifi only iPad 2 location serves not work...worked for years, even when I traveled extensively and returned home. I loaded ios7plus and went out West for the holidays.  Worked out West and on return, did not...live in country and worked when I took it to Mickey d's six miles away.  Only change is ios7 and it's default to Apple maps.  Apple support claimed to have passed this to engineering, but despite my follow ups with them using my case number, they have left me in limbo with a silent phone.  This is very wrong and not the apple I have known...very frustrated.

Cause Wi-Fi only iPads do not have GPS receivers in them, nor can they use the cell towers for triangulating position. Best they can do is guesstimate based on the hotspots they are connecting to. They base their guess on a database of known hotspots, which can be incomplete, erroneous or wildly inaccurate. The  rise of the problem can be due to any change you or your ISP has done to the Wi-Fi setup you use.
If you need to depend on critical apps that require reliable Location Services, get Wi-Fi+Cell devices next time. They can be used without a SIM chip with no problems (and not paying for cell charges), but GPS will work fine.

  • Why are my location services not working?

I received a new iPod touch yesterday, and it is now running iOS 5.  I can't get the location services to work from my home.  On my old 2nd generation touch, they work perfectly.  I've check all of my settings regarding the location services and everything is 'on'.

    Jim, Barry,
This for the replies. For what it is worth, I am confident all settings are OK, at least all the obvious ones.  I just cannot see what is missing.  In terms of what is not working, all Apps having a location option / button (Maps, Google Earth, etc) do not provide location.  For example, Maps will reply by showing a "Cannot determine location" message.  The same applies to the two iPads in the house and to whatever iPads enters on my Wi-Fi.
    Ideas?

  • Os x 10.9 location services not working on a 2008 mac pro

Maps and all other services that rely of my location are not working for me.
Do you have to have wifi for it to work?
I have turned on location services in sys prefs so that is not the problem.
Early 2008 Mac Pro (no wifi)
    OS X 10.9
    Any help is appreciated.

I have to turn off wi-fi and use ethernet (to make sure I have the fastest speed – the ethernet-speed – all the time). Why can't I define a location for my external IP-address at this location, so that Maps can use that location in location services?
Seems strange that there is no way to set your location though. Manually I mean. It is a desktop not a laptop so it doesn't move around.
You can set the Network priority to Ethernet, so even if you have both Ethernet and also Wi-Fi connected, it will use Ethernet.
That way you can leave Wi-Fi on for location services, but use your ethernet connection for the speed.
Go to System Preferences > Network
Select the gear wheel at the bottom and select the Set Service Order. Drag the connections in the order that you want to be priority.

  • Why does my location services not work properly?

Over a week ago, my location services stopped working. I can't view local weather on the default weather app, the default map can't find my location, and none of the other apps I have that look for location can view my location. I tried turning location services off and back on but it won't fix the problem. How can I fix this while waiting for the computer to be repaired?

Haven't checked at home, but if this is the problem, then how come it still won't work at places like Starbucks or other wifi hotspots? I'm at Starbucks right now, logged on and checked my email so I saw your reply, remembered that the router disconnected me at home last week and then I was able to get back on. So, I thought maybe that's the problem - what you said - so I tested my location on the map and it STILL won't work! I'm so irritated about it, since I rely on that app to help me determine the distance and time to walk to locations from my current location.
I was able to "solve" the weather app by just adding my city instead of using the local weather. I'm hoping I can try restoring my iPod later this week if the laptop gets fixed by then. I HATE restoring, though. I could do it using iCloud but most of my music is off CD's and I haven't paid the $25 to upload all of that so I'd temporarily lose those songs.

  • Location Service not Working with Weather Widget in Notification Center

Is ibt just me or is the weather widget not validating locations? I have restored iOSS 6.0.2 and toggles location services (enable/disable) for the app and removed it from the notification menu. It is working on both my iMac and MBP. Any suggestions? Anyone else having issues?
    Thanks in advance...Happy New Year!

    I see your point.
Launching the Weather app updates, but that's not push, right? So it could be that the widget in the NC relies on push. But why does it need to? Why doesn't it request an update when I pull down the NC, just like when I start the Weather app?
It seems to happen quite often, not like it's a one-off kind of server problem.  I haven't been able to discern a pattern, but it's often enough to be so annoying that I almost want to remove it from the NC.

  • Suddenly Location service not working on iPad. What's up ?

Suddenly location service is not working on new iPad. What's up?

I have a similar issue with my iPad 2 Wi-Fi. At first I couldn’t find a reason of Wi-Fi lost connection (Wi-Fi icon is indicated, but nothing happen).
Then I found out that lost of the connection happens only after any app tries to locate my iPad 2. Anyway location worked only a couple of times.
Now I get a stable Wi-Fi connection after disabling all location services. It is confirmed by doing ping command for 8 hours – all packets were received by iPad 2.
I hope after firmware update this problem vanishes.
    P.S. iPad 2 Wi-Fi 32GB with iOS 4.3.3, router D-Link DIR-615.

  • Location Services not working after iOS6 update

After updating to iOS 6 my ipad (3), Location Services no longer work, siri doesn't know where I am, 'Find My iPhone'cannot locate any devices, Maps cant find my position...and so on. I have double checked all seetings and they are correct. There was no problem under iOS5 on the same iPad. Does anyone know whats going on?

This is good news! I am getting my first ever iPhone (5) next week (Hopefully) nice to know I can use location service on that at least.
    Not a completely bad day

  • Location service not working

after enabling location service in privacy and safari, still location service is not working. same way the findmyphone says that the macbook pro is online unable to determine the location and also time is not able determine location and auto update time. i think all is related to location service. tried resatrting , updating still not working. Any help is appriciated.

I tried the regular wifi connection also still not working. For all practical purpose at the auto time update and find my phone should work with any kind of internet only then when the device is lost it would be easy to track it.

  • Location services not working after iOS 6 update (WiFi only)

After updating my iPad (3 & WiFi only) to iOS 6 the location services no longer work. This stops some apps from working. It was fine before the update. Does anyone have a fix for this yet? I know others have been having the same problem.

Before IOS 4 iPad and iPhone used Google and Skyhook databases for position info. In April Apple switched to using it's own in house database for location services. In the past one could register the MAC address and position of a router or access point with Skyhook and within 2 to 3 weeks any device with location services could find itself. Now with Apple handling it's own position database and no way to register an access point or router it is hit or miss as to whether an iPad or iPhone can find itself using WIFI only. If you live in a rural area you are less likely to have location services work. Hopefully Apple will emulate Skyhook in future by allowing users to register their access points or router's location in their data base. Until then those of us in rural areas are out of luck. Cheers

  • Location services not working on iMac

My location services are not working on my iMac. The settings are turn on.

So... where does "location services" in the Security & Privacy get my location from?
Does it get my location from my ATT U-verse router?
Location Services gets your location as I described above.
When you browse a web page, the web server has no idea where you are, but it does know your ATT IP address. If that address is registered someplace other than your home area, then the web pages (including weather pages) will assume you are in that area and provide default content for that area. If the web page asks to use Location Services (which it must), then it will get the location from Location Services.

  • Location services not working in iOS 7

I updated my iPad to ios7 but I can't turn on location services, the option does not allow me to tur it on - I have tried restoring my iPad but it has made no difference - is anyone else having this issue?

Sounds like you have looked under settings privacy turn the selector to on then go to the next page and select the individual apps you wish to use this feature with?

  • Location services not working on my iPad even though they are all turned on

I've tried everything but its still not working

It does not matter what you do or reset. The wifi-only iPad does not do location services well. You need an iPad with GPS to best take advantage of location services.
