Location Services Setting

Using an original iPhone with 2.0 update.
Question about programs that request using location services....when these programs are running in the background, do they use these services, or just when they are open and on screen?
I'd like to just leave the setting "on" and not worry too much about battery life. Before the update, google maps would just locate without asking permission, so does thet mean "location services" was alway switched on in previous software versions?
Thanks much.

I don't think leaving it turned on uses any more battery since they wont be running in the background anyway.
The annoying thing I find with this feature is that when you turn it off, every time you use the camera it asks "can camera use your location" which is annoying always having to press "no", since the location feature blows on the original phone anyway

  • HT5467 How to change the location service set up when the icon is not inactive?

I can not setting up the location services and change individual location service for each application since the icon are all in the dead icon and I cannot change anything. Is there anyway to make those icons in active?

Here is what I was referring to - when in Control Center, I have the database locations. (sources, targets, OWF etc). Under a database location I selected the connector/location name under Connectors. When I select Deploy Action to Drop the connector/location name will remain. However, if you were to check in the database or the Repository Browser (Locations Report) you will see that the db link is gone. At this point you can safely modify the Locations info in the Connection Explorer (in Design Center). On the other hand, if you want the location to be deleted all together then now you can delete it in the Connection Explorer panel. If you did the prior drop step then at this point all db link info should be gone from the database.

  • Location Services: Setting Time Zone... Always Active

Just wondering if anybody else is experiencing the always active SETTING TIME ZONE setting in LOCATION SERVICES / SYSTEM SERVICES.
It's always purple - never stops polling for location.
I've noticed a change in the battery life for my iPhone 4 and I think this is the culprit.
Is that setting needed for anything in particular or can it safely be turned off?
Thanks for any advice you have!

Grrrrrr, now (after the iOS 5.0.1 update), this is happening not only on my iPad, but also on my iPhone 4S, which never had the problem on iOS 5.0.  So, instead of going from 1 to 0 devices having the problem, I've gone from 1 to 2 after the update!  Isn't this the opposite of what was supposed to happen?
Letting the iPhone sleep for a while, shutting it off and turning it back on, resetting it with home+power, all do nothing.  Weirdly, it *wasn't* doing this right after I did the update; it only started about a day or so later.
****Update: and now it's off again, but it did come on for about 10 minutes and then turned off again.  Hmmmmm. I agree that having the status bar icon enabled is a good idea, to at least be able to see when this happens and disable it if you're in a situation where battery life matters.

  • IPhone 4s Battery life, Location Services, Setting Time Zone

So, many threads and articles on the internet are claiming that turning off "setting time zone" in location services (under system services) solves their battery drainage issue.
I've tried turning off location services together with other things, and while there seems to be an improvement, I don't really think it is solving the problem completely in my case.  For example, even after:
      - a full iphone restore from iTunes
      - no third party apps
      - the phone in Airplane mode (no Wifi or cellular connectivity)
      - all location services off
      - iCloud syncing completely off
       - Facetime off
       - iMessage off
       - bluetooth off
        - WITHOUT using the phone at all
... I seem to be lsoing about 25 % of charge every nine hours, which extrapolates to 36 hours time, total.
... but this is with  ll networking functions turned completely off (set up basically as an old-time PDA but without actually using it) and without turning the phone on.
Apple claims a time of 200 hours standby with all services on, connected to a WiFi access point with only "ask to join networks" set to the off position.
    How is that possible?
Looking at my phone usage under General settings, even with all the networking functions turned completely off (as above), my phone is spending about 90 % of time "in use." But I'm not using it!
At least with this phone, it seems like not all is explained by the "setting time zone" service under location services. Even with the screen off, no networking functions, and limited functionality, it appears to be cranking away at something.
    Can anyone else reproduce this?

  • Location Service set me in the wrong place

I recently moved from from LA to Las Vegas, and when I installed my network (3 Airport Express) then my MBP (retina 2012) OS 10.10.2 are keep on telling me that my location is in LA (my previous address). Interesting though is when I am Safari and other browsers, then ads and searches locates me at my correct location. But Maps, Find my phone and Time zone is using my previous location in LA.
Network is configured as one Airport Express is hardwired to the modem, and the other two act as extended network routers.
My iPhone 6plus have no problems and same with my iPad both on IOS 8.3.1. Even my MacAir (2012) OS 10.10.2 has no problem with the correct location. -all on same WIFI network as my MBP.
    Any ideas or suggestions

The location service uses an Apple database of router location and its unique identifier. As of yet nobody here as been able to find a way to update the Apple database. You do not have to connect to a router to use its location, all yo have to do is to be within range. It could be find your previous home location since the database may still have you old location associated with your router (assuming you moved you router to your new location). For the other locations you obtained, they may have be from other routers.

  • Location Services Getting Used A Lot

I recently went into my Location Services setting and noticed the "System Services". It looks like these are the items that use Location Services other than the apps that a user downloads. I turned on the option that allows me to see when the System Services are using Location Services and now I notice that theyre using my location a lot.
I saw the location icon on one time while texting and noticed that it wasn't turning off. I went in to check what was using it and it turned out to be Traffic and Frequent Locations.
Is this normal? Are Location Services actually being used a lot? I'm guessing this is why there's an option whether or not you want to see when the System Services are using your location.
The main reason I'm wondering is because I want to save my battery as much as possible...

Yes; just use the maps app (or google maps). Drop a pin at the starting point, then later you can request directions to that pin. Be sure to switch to walking directions.
But you should also have a backup plan, as you would with any activity in a risky environment.  Like taking sightings on recognizable landmarks or using other survival techniques that you have probably taken classes in. You need to be prepared for a dead battery, dropping the phone, getting it wet, etc.

  • Location Services always ON with Auto Date/Time/Timezone ON

iOS5 lets you see the Location Services (LS) indicator in the Status Bar when system services are using LS in addition to when apps are using LS. I turned this ON (Settings > Location Services > System Services > Status Bar Icon) and immediately saw that "Setting Time Zone" was using LS.
I went into Settings > General > Date & Time and saw that "Set Automatically" was ON. As soon as I turned it OFF the LS indicator disappeared.
Does this mean that LS is always ON when you've got auto Date & Time on? It looks like that to me...
Anyone else seeing this? I wonder whether this is an iOS5 bug or whether it's always behaved like this?
    Thanks
    Tim

    Hi All,
I checked my friend's IPHONE 4S. Date & Time->Set Automatically  is set to ON and in Location Services-> Setting Time Zone is set to On but it does not use GPS regularly but my Phone does I have tried everything Setup as new, erase all setting, reset all settings, reset network settings and restore from BACKUP. My Problem is persitent. The Only difference I notice in my mobile and friend's mobile is that he bought from Saudi Arabia and I bought from Australia (though it has been swaped by genious bar). He is using Telstra and I am using Vodafone. both has 9A406.
Hard to figure out what is this?
    Thanks

  • How do you turn on location services for the Photos app?

I reset my location services and I need to reactivate the location services for those apps I want to use this function.  I have turned on location services for all other apps, including CAMERA, but I cannot figure out how to turn it back on for PHOTOS (Camera Roll).  This option did appear when I did the new iPhone5 setup, but I cannot get it back.  And PHOTOS is not listed in the apps shown under the Location Services setting page.  I set my wife's phone up too and the PHOTOS app is showing on her phones Location Services setting page.  Help please.

    Hi There
I had the same problem and actually I found out that in Location Services you need to Turn On the option for CAMERA, as there is no photos icon.

  • I disabled Location Services and now I want to enable.

I disabled Location Services but now I wish to enable it. Both Location Services and Find My Phone app cannot be highlighted. How can I restore Location Services once it has been turned off? Thanks!

    Hello john r.from ma,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information on this, take a look at:
    iOS 7: Understanding Location Services
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5594
Turning Location Services on or off
You can turn Location Services on or off at Settings > Privacy > Location Services. You can turn Location Services on either during the Setup Assistant process or later through the Location Services setting. You can turn it off if you don't want to use this feature or to conserve battery life. You can individually control which apps and system services have access to Location Services data.
Settings > Privacy > Location Services
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services
By enabling Location Services, location-based system services such as these will also be enabled:
Popular Near Me: Your iPhone will periodically send locations of where you have purchased or used Apps in an anonymous and encrypted form to Apple to improve a crowd-sourced database that may be used to offer geographically-relevant Apps.
Frequent Locations: Your iPhone will keep track of places you have recently been, as well as how often and when you visited them, in order to learn places that are significant to you. This data is kept solely on your device and won't be sent to Apple without your consent. It will be used to provide you with personalized services, such as predictive traffic routing.
Location-Based iAds: Your iPhone will send your location to Apple in order to provide you with geographically relevant iAds.
    Best of luck,
    Mario

  • Turn on location services for google maps

    How do you do this?

Settings - Privacy - Location Service - set it on for google maps or for safari!!

  • My CAMERA, SAFARI apps have vanished. Can't turn Location Services "ON"

I have an iPhone 4S and the camera on it has vanished so I cannot take any pictures, use face time etc. also I'm unable to turn my "Locations Services" setting to "ON" for some reason!?. Please help

You're welcome.  Let's see what we can do. You mentioned you had location services turned on go back there and toggle the location services button on/off a couple of time and make sure maps is turned on. Then give it a reset. Press and hold both the home and power buttons until the Apple logo appears. Release both buttons. Wait until your iPad starts on it's own.
Checks maps, if it's still not working remove all restrictions.
I was going to recommend  reset all settings but you already did that.
Next I'd bring your and your Dad's iPads to the Apple Store to be checked out. Especially your Dads. A brand new iPad shouldn't be having this kind of problem.

  • HT5594 I upgraded to IOS 7 this weekend, however when I go into Privacy - Location Serivces; I cannot click on location services to change my settings.  Anyone have any help for this?

    Has anyone run into this?

    Hey pitttags,
Thanks for the question. If your Locations Services page seems greyed out, or "dimmed", this could be due to limitations set by Restrictions. Using Restrictions in iOS 7, one could prevent changes to location services (including enabling/disabling). You may want to check these settings:
    iOS: Understanding Restrictions (parental controls)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4213
You can prevent changes to Privacy settings, including:
    - Location Services
If your iOS device is missing a particular application or if a certain feature is not available, ensure that Restrictions are not enabled. Symptoms can include:
    - App missing from the Home screen (such as Safari, Camera, or FaceTime)
    - Feature or service unavailable (such as Siri or Location Services)
    - Setting missing or dimmed (such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar; iCloud; Twitter; FaceTime)
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Hate Location Services on my Camera

I absolutely never want to use the geo-tagging/location feature for my photos. I want to turn it off and yet because of the Location Services Setting also is tied to the map/gps services that I frequently need, I never can take a quick photo without having to answer the question with "no"--often missing my photo opp. I should be able to turn this off once and for all. It seems absurd that gps/mapping and camera settings are tied together. I have been a Mac user for years and this is one of the most frustrating poorly thought through features I have ever seen.

I'd send a feature request on how you would like it to work http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
I think geotagging will be very useful in future versions of iPhoto and Picassa with location search features but I would like to also like to see a "always allow or always deny" options.

How do I add my new iPhone4s to iCloud's "Find my iPhone"? I followed the iCloud instructions and turned on Macbook Pros' system prefs to "find my mac", turned on iPhone4s's "location services" and set up iCloud, etc. In the "Find my iphone" tab of my new iCloud account (on my Macbook Pro) my iPhone4s still won't show—but my macbook does show. I had my iPhone4s set up at the phone store (2 days ago) and It receives gmail, my contacts and calender entries, the weather, etc. I installed the "Find iPhone" app from iTunes on the iPhone4s, synched to iTunes, even reset the phone, but the only device that gets located is my Macbook Pro. I can send a "sound" message to my Mac (and the Mac recieves it) but unable to see the iPhone4s from my Mac, let alone send any message. Any suggestions to get the iPhone4s device to appear in iCloud?
Thank you in advance for your help.

OK, I figured it out...I deleted the iCloud account off my iPhone (Settings, iCloud, Delete Account), and then added iCloud back in (Settings, iCloud, SignIn)....and then my email (iCloud) and "Find my phone" features worked! Nice!!!!
