Location Switching and Access Connections 5.62

Under Location Switching, I enable the "Include Ethernet connections..." option.  I then see my profiles for LAN connections at the bottom of the list and I can checkmark them.  I can't however select them and change the order in the list.  Is there a reason for this?

Hi,
in your situation, could you please make sure, that following Windows Services are started:
- Windows Zero Configuration
- Windows Presentation Foundation
- Terminal Services
There are the services, that are fully needed for the correct workflow of Access Connection.
Also please make sure, that you are using the latest version of following apps/drivers, which are also needed for AC to work correctly:
- Power Manager
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70602
- Power Management driver
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-4GXPEG
- Hotkey features
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-74261
- .NET 2.0 + SP2
Can you also tell me which exact  AC service is taking the most CPU ?
Cheers

  • FlexConnect local/central switched and Access-Accept Packets

For our branch offices’s wireless access, we would like to use FlexConnect with one SSID and two distinct user profiles:
    •  Full network access, local switched.
    •  Limited network access, central switched:
    ◦       To isolate traffic from the branch’s LAN.
    ◦       To force traffic through a firewall at the central site.
    ▪       To ease access rules management.
    ◦       Internet access only by default.
    ▪       Internet access is located at the central site.
    ▪       We expect to manage some exceptions to the rule.
We know that it’s not possible to switch from local to central switched using the same SSID with FlexConnect and AAA Override.
However, we found an interesting bit in the documentation pages regarding RADIUS attributes:
Authentication Attributes Honored in Access-Accept Packets (Airespace)
    VAP ID
This attribute indicates the WLAN ID of the WLAN to which the client should belong. When the WLAN-ID attribute is present in the RADIUS Access Accept, the system applies the WLAN-ID (SSID) to the client station after it authenticates. [...]
    Source:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/7-6/configuration/guide/b_cg76/b_cg76_chapter_0101000.html#reference_327F94A40AAE46E48153B265E521DDCF
We then made an assumption that the following was possible:
    •  Create a second SSID
    ◦       Broadcast not enabled
    ◦       Central Switched
    •  Users would authenticate using the first SSID
    •  In it’s access-accept packet, the RADIUS server would return an
Airespace-WLAN-Id attribute with the value of the second SSID.
    •      The WLC would then assign the second SSID to the users so they’re central switched and forwarded through the firewall at the main site.
So far, our tests showed no results.
    •  Is that solution achievable at all? It seemed so from the documentation, but we haven’t found any documented evidence that someone actually tried it.
    •  If not, what would you recommend?
For RADIUS, we are using Microsoft 2012r2 NPS servers. Everything’s been working fine with them so far. We can do AAA vlan override for our main site and with FlexConnect also, without any problems. What’s not working is the local/central switched scenario we’re trying to pull off. The RADIUS server sends the Airespace-WLAN-Id attribute from what I see with Wireshark, but the WLC does not seem to react to it like I thought it would. I couldn’t find a debug command that would tell me what the WLC does with the attributes from the access-accept packet. Maybe the behaviour I’m experiencing is to be expected, that’s what I would like to know.
    Thank you very much,

Your WLAN is defined with as centrally switched or locally switched, AAA override will not chage that value.  AAA attributes can change a users vlan, acl and QoS.  The other attributes are intended to use for rules... example:
Is the user part of this AD group and is this user on WLAN ID=1.
You will not be able to go from centrally switched to locally swithed and vice versa.  I don't know how you would be able to achieve what your trying to acomplish with one SSID to be honest.

  • Vista SP2 and Access connections requiring manual reconnect

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem after the installation of Windows Vista SP2 on my Vista Business. After a reboot, I must always manually 1) disconnect the WLAN connection and then 2) reconnect to establish a working WLAN connection and to gain access to Internet. Before I disconnect, the WLAN connection is alive, but I cannot access any websites. Everything worked just fine before installation of SP2.
I'm running Access connections version 4.42 on Thinkpad R61. I've read that someone has had a similar problem with wired LAN and with newer version of Access connections: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasp/thread/17ba267e-0bb1-4621-b81f-04afa0d806...
Does someone know how to solve this issue and make the connection to work without a manual disconnect -> reconnect step?
    BR,
    Miika

After some searching, I found a working solution:

    Everything works fine now.

  • Presentation Director and Access Connections when Docking

When I dock my machine, it automatically selects the right presentation mode because of the way that I configured Presentation Director.  It would be nice if it could automatically select the right Access Connection too.  Is this possible?  Is there a way to select docking actions like there is a way to select eject options?

    Hi,
in case you update Access Connection, you must already have also following updates installed:
    - Power Management driver
    - Power Manager
    -Hotkey utility
    - System interface driver
    - Wifi driver <for AC 5.x it must be 13.x version>
<all of course with the latest version>
Once this all is installed, you can install AC .
Let me know, if you have also the latest version of the above driver/updates on the system prior to the installation of AC .In case not, just remove AC, install the above mentioned updates and then install AC 5.x

  • Wireless is missing from Fn+F5 and Access Connections

    Hi,
I just installed a new harddrive on my T60 and restored WinXP from recovery DVD, everything seems to be work fine, I have upgrade Windows to SP3 plus all hotfixes, and updated ThinkVantage software to latest version using System Update 3. Today when I try to use WLAN I found a problem, there's no way to add a WLAN profile in Access Connections, I can choose Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG when creating new profile in AC, but after I clicked Next, I couldn't find any wireless SSID even though there is one active. The #3 dropdown (wireless mode) is also empty, the security property button is also grayed out, so I cann't proceed further.
I thought this may be becuase wireless is turned off somehow, so I used Fn+F5, to my surprise there's no wireless in it! It only has Bluetooth. I do have Wireless Network Connection 2 in Windows' Network Connections, it's listed as Not connected, the hardware manager also shows the wireless NIC without any problem, so I think WIndows does recognize the wireless NIC, but for some reason Thinkvantage refuses to recognize it, any ideas?
    Thanks
    Jim

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I solved my problem by uninstall and reinstall WLAN driver and AC (maybe other related drivers, don't quite remember). The sequence of uninstall/install is important, I think you need to uninstall AC first, and install it last.

  • Latest versions of Power Manager and Access Connections got borked.

I have a T60p running a fully patched XP SP2, model 2007CS3, and I work for IBM. I'm posting this because our internal IT support team has no clue how to fix this.
I updated Power Manager to 1.52 when it had initially released, and since then it always fails with  an error in pwmuictl.dll, however the taskbar indicator is working properly. So I have to rely on Windows' built in power management only.
Couple of days back I updated the ethernet drivers  to 9.12.41.1001 as in the latest package listed on the site.
After that Access Connections 5.2 stopped working- the AcSvc service would fail on startup and subsequent restarts.
I rolled back the ethernet driver to the previous version- uninstalled the device and reinstalled specifying the older drivers- to no avail.
After a lot of struggle I downgraded it to version 4.23 that is used internally- and now my LEAP based wifi does not work. If I create a new connection profile- Access Connections craps out after filling in wifi security parameters. I reset my LEAP password  and tried again- it still does not connect.
So effectively, updating the ethernet drivers turned out to be a big mistake. I hope someone can help, if you need additional information/screenshots let me know.

    Hello Martin,
you have AC 5.02 instead 4.52 installed, like your screenshot shows.
Some user have been experienced problems with this version and the version of new Powermanager.
So if your system runs satisfactionally then there is no need to update.
I would roll back and see if your program became operationally again.
    Kind regards

  • Power Manager and Access Connections crash, neither help nor solution from Lenovo!?!

    Hello
I've already posted here on the forum several weeks ago about the obvious problem that Lenovo has with the latest version of the Power Manager and the Access Connections which both crash either on startup or while tryibg to open it.
So far there has been neither an update, nor a solution nor an official statement from Lenovo about that problem that consists rightnow for over two month!
When searching the forum I see the same all over again: Unanswered threads, solutions that don't solve anything at all and so on...
And just if someone here comes up with comments like:
"work's here" or "just rollback to the old version", what is the point of writing software that doesn't work?? And why not giving ANY SUPPORT AT ALL???!!!
I really would at least like to see an official statement saying "we work on it". After buying one of the most expensive notebooks on the market (and in my opinion still one of the best) hat would be the least one could expect form a "award wining" company like Lenovo...

Hello, I am a Help Desk Consultant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and currently, we've had many problems with access connections, 4965 agn wireless card, and its drivers.
    Symptoms:
    1) Wireless card is detected my windows device manager
    2) Wireless card is NOT detected by access connections, intel wireless utilities/tests/etc
    Other related information:
    1)  Events with ID 7036 + source: NETw#v## (the # stand for numbers, I can't quiet remember which ones but the one after the v is a 5
    2) Rollback driver is NEVER an abailable option
    3) Every failure case with same symptoms came in starting mid September
    4) If you select "show hidden devices" in device manager, there is a huge number of devices, most of which seem to be repeats
After many hours of debugging and fustrated complaints, I have determined that it could be one of many problems:
    1) Teredo tunnelling: Apparently, atheros/intel/access connections won't find the wireless card if teredo has been enabled or something
    2) Power management: A default setting is "let windows turn the wireless off it there's not enough power" in wireless properties>configure>power management
    3) Driver update combination conflict: between a update on 9/21 and present time, there's something horribly gone wrong
If anyone has a definitie solution to this, please post.

  • Database log switch and WLS connection pool relation

    Hi,
We have been facing WLS JDBC connection pool disable and suspension issue very frequently in our environment and as a work around have implemented multi-datasource configuration (fail over method).
But we need to know the root cause for the same and want to fix the issue too.
We have tried many options like increasing no. of processes and transaction on Database, fine tune the weblogic datasource but still we could not isolate the issue.
Recently we have been advised to minimize the log switch on database front and increase the redo log size. Not sure if this will help in isolating the issue or not.
So we are Looking forward for the comments and suggestions on what would be the relationship b/w datasource and log switch be and if someone have faced this issue and resolved the same by fine tuning the database and minimizing the log switch.
    We are using WLS 10.3.3.0

while testing connections and trying/failing to make replacement connections.

  • Group policy and access connections?

Is it possible to disable this option:
Control Panel -> Lenovo Internet connection -> Switch to advanced -> tools tag -> global settings -> allow wifi to be turned off when inactive (disable)
    I already tried with the acplgin50.exe -> Tvtacad.adm but I don't have the option.

  • Access Connections and Tools won't install properly

I have followed advice uninstalled the wireless driver, access connections, hotkey, power manager. . Reinstalled all ( latest versions) except access connection. Wireless connections work correctly and all hot keys function appropriately ( including Fn +F5 ). Then I let TVSU download Access connections. An icon is placed in the task tray. Clicking on it nothing happens. Also none of the hot keys work including the blue ThinkVantage key. Once I uninstall Access connection I am back in business with the wireless connection and the hot keys working. ( for all these installs I turned off the Microsoft virus scanner and the firewall).
Have similar problem with ThinkVantage tools in that I get the Icon in the task tray and then the program freezes. No problem in reinstalling  PC doctor5

    Hi dulverton,
I find lenovo drivers and software rather eccentric; since they need to be installed in a particular order to work properly.
First uninstall your wireless driver and access connections, thereafter reboot your system. Then install wireless driver first, again reboot, subsequently install access connections, reboot again.
Further this is the order in which the following drivers must be installed for each of them to function desirably:-
    1) Lenovo PM driver
    2) Lenovo System Interface Driver
    3) Hotkey driver
    4) Wireless driver software [reboot]
    5) Access Connections [reboot]
    Hope it helps.

  • Access Connections and Group Policy generated network profiles

    Hello,
We are in the middle of rolling out 3500 T400 machines and are having fits with Access Connections 5.02. We have a default in-house Preferred Wireless Network Profile that is created on each machine via Group Policy. This works fine with AC and everything does what is supposed to do when our users are in our buildings. When our users go offsite, we have nothing but fits with AC and trying to set up any other WAN connections.
If users set up a new network connection, we are asking them to set it up thru AC. We have had them try using both the "Use Windows to Configure Wireless Network" as well as "IEEE 802.1X Authentication". Once the network connection is set up, for some, the wireless will work for a short period (a week or so) and then will no longer detect network connections.  The user nor the client site has made any changes to the wireless configuration.
Others will have a stable connection wirelessly until they connect over VPN – VPN will drop in a few minutes after connection.  They can then sometimes reconnect after a reboot; but the instability is a constant problem.
It seems to me that the problem could all be traced back to GP enforcement, which occurs every 8 hours when connected to our network. If a user is offline for several days, then connects up to check email or transfer time or whatever, then they are kicked off. If a user connects via VPN, they are kicked off within minutes - again potentially traceable to GP enforcement.
Has anyone else dealt with this scenario of Preferred Wireless Network policies and Access Connections?
    Thanks!

  • Access Connections 5.12 and Power Manager 2.41a continue to garble the screen

The newest versions of Access Connections and Power Manager continue to be soooooooo slowwwwwwww that when they start, they both leave a Not Responding screen in the background and the graphics in the foreground continue not to display properly. The big red circle is cut off at the top border and the Close buttons are fuzzy and not clear. The root problem is that both applications are exceedingly slow to load even on a super fast system.
These problems version after version after version after version have never been corrected.
I have drawn this to Lenovo's attention on numerous occassions before. This time is pretty much the last straw.
Does anybody at Lenovo listen?  That was a rhetorical question.
These two applications appear to be permanently broken.
    .... jdhurst

The same experience here. The only new ThinkVantage app that works acceptably and is worth of upgrade is only Fingerprint reader software. Power Manger and Access Connections are too slow and add nothing that important (as far as I am concerned) to be worth of trouble to update. So I stick to the older versions in those two cases.

  • Lenovo TVAC Automatic Location Switching

    Hello All,
I am in the process of creating a global image for our company and we are completely lenovo migrated.
We install TVAC 5.31 as a software in the image deployment process and used the Profile manager to export and import profiles. But the Automatic Location Switching Priority for profiles seems to be not constant or not as it when we exported the profile. the image is already deployed in more than 500 machines now and we want the priority order of the profiles to be as we designed...
I tried Changing the priority from registry "HKLM\SOFTWARE\LENOVO\Access Connections\Roaming\WLPriorityList" but nothing works...the moment I click location switching, the settings are revised..
Is there any way I can change these priority of profiles from registry or any scripts?
Thanks for your help in advance !!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi,
I have just now tested the change of the list in Location switching and it's working like a charm.
There is one situation, where the changes, that I made to the location switching were not saved and that was, when during I changed the registry was AC GUI started.
Here is what I have done:
    - Closed AC GUI
    - started registry
    - go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Roaming\WLPriorityList]
    -  changed the dword:000000xx entries, as I want  to have it
    - close the registry <just to be sure I press F5 >
    - start AC and the Location Switching list is configured as I have changed it in the registry.
I have tested this situation also using a .reg file where I have used the same procedure as above and it worked too.
    Maybe this might help.
Let me know, wheter this make any change to your situation.
If possible, post here your steps, that you performed with the registry

  • Access Connections 5.3 doesn't see wireless

Suddenly Access Connections can no longer see any wireless networks -- even though the Windows wireless manager connects fine.  There are other similar recent posts but without a solution that works.
    T41 Type 2373
    WinXP SP3
    Access Connections 5.3
Atheros a/b/g wireless lan mini PCI, with driver v4.1.2.156
    Hotkey features 1.31.0610
    Solutions I've tried already:
Ran sys update to get latest versions
    turned off firewall
removed Access Connections including all profiles
    removed wireless adapter driver
    removed hotkey features
    rebooted
reinstalled Hotkey, Wireless driver, and Access Connections
    rebooted
turned off firewall again during connection attempt
Access Connections fails to connect wirelessly (but connects OK hardwired)
The Connections Status window shows wireless radio not turned on Error Code 16  (even though the radio is on).  When I run repair, the error changes to code 9 - no wireless networks in range (even though more than one is in range).  I can connect via WinXP wireless mgr with no problem.
    Thanks for any help!

well i don't have xp on my machine and it is a t61 so what i can assist with is limited. (vista business access connections 5.31) i've reviewd you troubleshooting steps but first i do have to ask since it was a sudden change do you recall installing updates or changeing any settings? if you have it set for automatic backups check to be sure everything is ok there. i wouldn't normaly suggest system restore since it messes with the registry and I'VE seen it do some damage but enymachine and user is different so you can give that a try if you can't at all recall what may have happened.  you can find by going to start-->all programs-->accessories-->system tools
but just thinking off the top of my head in the advanced menu under details you change you global settings so that it wont power off the radio in any instance (but probably wont change since you can connect using the windows config) and be sure it is powered on by press fn+f5 along with checking for the wirless switch at the front of your computer, the t41 is a lil oder than mine so it may not have. and along with those drivers that you updated try updating (not uninstalling and reinstalling) the power managment driver. i know when i install my own os it runs a lot better to install you chipset and powermanagement drivers first. (that i i sugges to update and not uninstall) and since its giving an error that  it can't power on thats what i can suggest.
p.s. under tools there should be diagnostics to where you can check to see if you enabled the error logging, if yo uhave that might provide further assistance.
p.p.s. i've looked up on a few other topics and it prob makes a difference with xp instead of vista because when selecting which tool to configure your wirless connection can cause an issue. but i mainly see this with older versions of access connecctions. so i guess i good question is if you were able to use windows to view and connect while you were using access connections?

  • Can't import profiles in Access Connections 5.02

I exported location profiles in Access Connections 5.02. When I exported, it prompted me for a password, which I entered. However, when I tried to re-import the profiles, it did NOT prompt me for a password and failed with an error saying "Unable to import file. Incorrect passphrase or corrupted file." Well, how can I enter a passphrase when it doesn't prompt me for one on import?!!
This is on a Thinkpad T61p.

    Hi bravedave,
should your update say something meaningfull, or just a sticky note?
BTW: for the above situation, you will be prompted for the passphrase, once you open AC GUI and import this .loc file manually.
BTW2: I would more advice to use the LOA export file, as this is more extended and you can do more, then just import and export AC profies. However, for this second option you need to download the Admin pack for AC.
