Locations in calendar events

Why is it when I enter a calendar event in my exchange calendar locations aren't recognized but when I use any other non-exchange calendar when I enter an event and enter an address under location it shows the locations on a map?

Tapping and holding the fingertip on the address will still give you an option to open the location in a map

  • Better Calendar Event Location Suggestions?

    OSX 10.9.1 - Calendar
When adding a new event in Calendar, it helpfully offers suggestions as I'm typing in the event location. In my case, I type in "Starbucks" (for real), it churns about for a second, and then offers 7 Starbucks locations. Top suggestion is in Nevada (I'm in NY), second suggestion is in Australia, then several options of locations that are in my metro area at a distance.
However, there are 2 Starbucks locations that are very near my home. I can't get either of these two to appear in the suggestions no matter what I try. Clearly, it knows my metro area, and in the Maps app, it pinpoints me with no problem. But I can't take advantage of this feature.
Is there any way to help the suggestions? It doesn't know what I mean when I type "Starbucks <myarea> NY", or "Starbucks <myzip>".
    Thanks!

I've had the same problem.  It's very frustrating when I type in the name of an Italian restaurant that is 30 min away and the address suggestions I get addresses across the state, across the country, and ITALY!  I shouldn't have to add a contact record for every place that I need directions for.  That defeats the purpose of having the event location.  I could just pull up the contact and open the address in Google Maps.  The Calendar event location field needs some work.  Why can't it either offer more options or at least check the area around your current location first?

  • Calendar event location not shown on iPod

I use iCal to sync with my iPod so that I have all of the information about my scheduled events, i.e. the room number and building of where I need to be at a certain time. In the past this has worked just fine, but for some reason now when I look at my calendar events on my iPod, I can only see the Summary, Date, Time, and Notes. Where did the location go? How can I get it back? Thanks!

The location isn't displayed on the iPod. If you want it you need to move the location information into the description. This has been reported to Apple as a bug, but they haven't done anything about it. The location is actually syncd properly with the iPod, it just isn't displayed.
I wrote an Applescript/Perl script that can be used to update your calendar files so the location is in the description. After you sync normally you open your iPod on the desktop and drag the Calendars folder onto the Applescript and it processes all of your calendar files. It is free.
It is at my website <http://its.usc.edu/~bbellina/downloads>.

  • Has BlackBerry forgot Switzerland in Calendar Events - Location?

    Hi all,
I just recently returned to a BlackBerry Q10 after about 3 years using android devices. I really missed the physical keyboard and the shortcuts that came with it.
After a few days of use I have discovered a problem with Calendar Events. When I enter an address here in Zurich, it should become a link that will launch BB Maps. It does not. I have tried various combinations of street, city, postal code etc. Even when I press the Map icon to search for an address and paste it into the event location, it does not become a link.
I also tried my old address in Paris and that didn't work either. It seems that the OS does not deal with addresses outside North America.
It would be OK if I could change the default map application to BeMaps Pro but I can't figure out how to do that either.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea or has had similar issues.
    Cheers
    Bruce

    Hi,
Yes it works if you put in a North American address.
    Example:
    1. Create a new calendar event.
    2. For "Location", type "2100 Yonge Street Toronto".
    3. Save new event.
    4. Open the event. The location will now be in blue font.
    5. Tap the location text and BB Maps will open and display the location on a map.
It does not seem to work with Swiss or French addresses even if I search using the Map app first and paste the location into the event. I tried a UK address " 58 Baker Street London" and that worked.
Let me know if it works the same for you.
    Cheers

  • You can't click a location in a calendar event to map it?

There seems to be no ability to map a location which is inside a calendar event. I'm a little confused as to why this is the case... doesn't seem like it'd be hard to do. Then the locations would actually be useful.

This is actually a big improvement over the calendar in other iPods, which cannot display location information at all even when provided. iPhone is the first to display event locations.

  • I have downloaded a calendar app but can't add events.  I have gone to settings but can't locate default calendar as suggested, turned the iPad off etc as suggested.

I have downloaded a calendar app but can't add events.  I have been to settings but can't locate default calendar as suggested, have also turned the app off and on as suggested.

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

  • Calendar - Event Locations as addresses don't link?

I thought addresses in all sorts of places were supposed to link to google maps seamlessly.
Why don't the locations of my events exhibit the same functionality? Would be nice to have.

I'm just writing to agree, hoping someone at Apple will read this and add this to the list of updates for iPhone's 2.1.0+ software. It would be nice to have the Maps application search automatically so I don't have to stop and try to type out the entire address or wait for a search to complete, especially when I'm in route already.

  • Some Calendar events can't be deleted

I have several repeating calendar events that I created in my home calendar (icloud) which can't be deleted. Under event details the "edit" and the "delete event" is missing. I can't delete or modify these events at all. Dragging and dropping the event doesn't work either. The cloud is syncing fine as both my iphone and ipad have all the same events with the same issue.

I am having the same issue.  I created a repeating event and invited others to it.  It won't let me edit it, nor delete it.  I changed my status to "Decline" and it disappears; however, as soon as I try to exit the event window, everything shows back up and my status reverts to "Accepted."  The only two buttons I have access to is "Revert" and "Reply."  Both end up with the same results - event still shows up and I am still in an "Accepted" status.
I tried editing the original entry as well as follow-on events (later in the repeating cycle).  I cannot edit anything other than my status, which doesn't change in the end.
I am running Mountain Lion 10.8.1 on a 6-core Mac Pro.  This issue also occurred within Lion (10.7.x).
It also does the same thing on my iPhone - I decline the event, it disappears, but then pops back up a few seconds later.
I am using an iPhone 4 using iOS 5.1.1
Any ideas on how to delete (or even modify times, dates, locations, etc.)?
    Jim

  • Is there any way to copy a calendar event?

I recently purchased an 8310 Curve to replace my Dell PDA. One function I used extensively on the PDA that I can't find on the Curve is the ability to copy a calendar event and paste it on another date. This feature was very helpful for things such as Dr. appointments or other things that occurred frequently but not on a regular schedule. Copy the previous event, paste it on the next date, edit it for changes in time if necessary, etc. and you are done. As it is, unless I can find a way to do this I can only copy one line of the event, usually the Subject, and paste it into a new event on the proper day. That means having to type in things like location (Dr's office, 123 Apple St., etc.), start and end time if the event isn't right on the hour or doesn't last exactly an hour, category, Notes or comments ("take list of prescriptions", "Leave 20 minutes early due to traffic", etc.)
If anyone knows how to copy an appointment and paste it on a different day I would really appreciate their response. If that functionality doesn't exist I'd like to recommend to RIM that they seriously consider that feature with their next software release.

I just double check and didn't see this option anywhere. You can however copy/paste text on a BlackBerry. I believe the only way would be to copy it in your email client and have the BlackBerry synchronize with it
If someone has been helpful please consider giving them kudos by clicking the star to the left of their post.

  • How do I set a location in Calendar

I just upgraded to Mavericks, one of the interesting new features was location in Calendar. I cannot get that to work.
Location services are enabled for Calendar.
If I type a full address into "Add location" field, it does not get saved. It is gone when I reopen the event.
While I type an address or name that is in my Contacts, I get suggestions. I cannot select any suggestion. They are not added to the location field.
Any suggests about how to get this to work?
    Matt Johnson

I can do that except the Calendar App would prefer I link the location to a map or a recent address instead of the address book.   It keeps trying to enter a "pin" that is my current location.   What the app should allow me to do is link to Apple Maps where I can then auto fill the location with the address I entered on the Map.  I think Apple was over complicating this field instead of allowing a free-from of data entry.  Also, by trying to enter a comment, the App sometimes aborts back to the main interface screen.   There is obviously somekind of bug in this field.

  • IPhone does not sync Calendar events with iCloud

I have a Calendar which is synced with my iPhone, iCloud and MacBook Air.  Calendar events are synced between iCloud and the MacBook, but not between iCloud and iPhone.  I tried Reset, but it still does not synce between iCloud and iPhone.

Try force-closing the calendar app on your phone: double-tap the home button, locate Calendar in the list, swipe up on the image above the app icon to close it, tap the home button again.  Now reset the phone by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo and release.  Test your calendar again.  Any change?

  • Iphone does not sync OUTLOOK CONTACT NOR CALENDAR EVENTS (XP)

I was able to sync photos- music but no contacts-Calendar events from OUTLOOK 2003. The fact that my outlook PST file is not located in the default Outlook directory could be the problem but I am not sure. Anyone out there having the same issue??? Please let me know. thank you. Phil

Have no problems here with Vista and Outlook 2003. PST is not saved in default location, syncs without a hitch.
Seems problems are hit or miss. I have had a flawless experience while my brother who bought one at the same time is having a nightmare of a time with his install. From iTunes 7.3 crashing to activation nightmares.

  • My Iphone calendar events are not showing up in iCal when I sync? Syncing has not been an issue till today?

My Iphone calendar events are not showing up in iCal when I sync? Syncing has not been an issue till today?

I found this tip from a 2011 discussion on the same topic.
Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
Re-Open the iCal application and Import (File -> Import) a new calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier. Once completed, close the iCal application (you should have all of your calendar entries back.)
Open the iTunes application and connect your Apple iPhone to the computer.
Within the Advanced section of the Info tab for the Apple iPhone, check the box the overwrites/replaces the Calendar data on the Apple iPhone.
Click the Apple/Sync button. New, modified and deleted entries should now be syncing correctly.
That's it! You should be all set and iTunes, iCal and our Apple iPhone should all be playing nicely as friends again. We've used the exact method to repair our own Apple iPhone at least once... maybe even twice.

  • Receiving a calendar event message from a third party on a BB Z10

I have a BB Z10 on the UK Vodafone network. My Z10 is set to GMT time and correctly shows that I am in the "Dublin, London" time zone. This is the GMT time zone description that all BB devices that I have ever owned have shown.
This afternoon (UK time) i received a calendar event notification from a client who I have since established was at his desk in London when he sent the message advising me of a conference call to take place next week.
The advice on the Z10 has five clear sections: "Status", "Date", a bell symbol to indicate when the reminder will sound, and a fifth symbol indicating the number on which to call in, and the PIN code.
However, and this is my serious problem, there is a third section on the advice which has a globe symbol and appears to exist to indicate where the person setting up the event was located when he/she sent the message. In the specific case of which I write, the message states "This event is displayed in local time, but was created in Reykjavik (GMT) [sic}". The actual message shows the time for the event as one hour later than the actual time that the event is scheduled to take place - in other words GMT + 2 hours - namely the time in continental Europe and Reykjavik.
I have serious issues with this:
    1) Is it the real intention to indicate where the sender of the message was located when the message was sent?
    2) if yes, this is a serious breach of privacy
    3) if yes, the location is wrong, as the person who sent me the message has confirmed that he was at his desk in London
    4) if no what is the purpose in indicating where "the message was created" (BB's words - not mine)
    5) the indicated time of the event is wrong - it has assumed a different time zone than that in which I and the sender are located.
Has anyone else encountered this problem and what has BB got to say about it???
    Thanks

I received the e-mail notification on Microsift Outlook from a third party (i.e. not someone within my own organisation).
The same invite on both my lap-top  computer and my BB 9900 Bold did not have any mention about the sender being in Iceland (or anywhere else!) and showed the correct time and time-zone for the agreed meeting - namely, 8,30am on Friday the 19th April.
I confirm that my Z10 is set to the "Dublin, London (+0)" time zone and is currently showing the correct British Summer Time of 16.31. The device switched automatically to British Summer Time on Sunday 31st March.
    I would welcome your comments.
In every other respect (apart from the infamous Outlook USB synching issue about which I am sure you have heard more than enough!!), the Z10 is an outstanding device and deserves to be the device which at long last wipes the smile off the faces of those equine rumps in Cupertino, California!!
I am expecting the roll-out of the Q10 in the UK in a couple of weeks  - please??!!
Thanks again for your help and assistance
