Lock button random

The lock button on my iphone 4 seems to be faulty, I will be doing simple things such as  whatsapp, or facebook. and randomly the phone will lock and then keep flashing up as if i was pressing the lock button repeatedly. also after about 10 seconds the [slide to power off] appears.
Is there a common fault with the lock button? and will it be fixable by apple?
Thank you

Basic Troubleshooting Steps when all else fails
Quit the App by opening multi-tasking bar, holding down the icon for the App for about 3-5 seconds, and then tap the red circle with the white minus sign.
Relaunch the App and try again.
Restart the device. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Reset the device. (Same article as above.)
Restore from backup. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766 (If you don't have a backup, make one now, then skip to the next step.)
Restore as new device. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137  For this step, do not re-download ANYTHING, and do not sign into your Apple ID.
Test the issue after each step.  If the last one does not resolve the issue, it is likely a hardware problem.

  • My iphone 4 lock button stopped working and now it won't charge

    Hi.
A couple of weeks ago my iphone 4's lock button randomly stopped working, I had never dropped my iphone so I couldn't figure out why this had occurred. I did not see this as a big problem until recently when my iphone stopped charging. The iPhone had worked just as normal the day before it stopped charging. I usually charge my iphone over night, but one night it reached around 85% and stopped charging. I have tried it with several different iphone chargers and different plugs in the house but still the iPhone wouldn't charge. Now my iphone has ran out of battery and due to the fact that my lock button is broken, I can't try anything to turn it on. Does my battery need replacing?
    Thanks,
    Anna.

  • Why does the lock button stop working?

on my iphone my lock button randomly stop working and i dont understand why has this happened to anyone else?

Could be hardware damage with the button.

  • HP Envy Caps Lock Button... misbehaving?

Okay so this has been happening over the course of about 2 months. My Caps lock button randomly flashes at, well, random times, more than 6 times and over the duration of >15 seconds. I have no clue why! It still functions as a normal caps lock button even while doing this, and only does this after it's booted up. However, once it's stopped flashing, the light DOES NOT remain on after the button is pressed. This caused sheer terror today as I tried entering my passwords on multiple sites and they all came up as "wrong", although it was just the fact I could not tell the Caps Lock was on. My PC itself is working A-OK although I am anxious that maybe it is a sign of hardware failure, like in the fan? The fan has broken once before and I fear if this is the case and I send my PC back to HP's support facilities I will lose all my data again. Last time, my machine was completely wiped and permanently renamed "hp" . But really, this is SUPER annoying and really a waste of time! I fear the worst, but hopefully /someone/ knows what's going on. Thanks again, Ed

I'm not sure if you've resolved this issue but I solved the problem by removing the charger plug, then the battery.  While the battery is out, push the power button.  Reinstall the battery and reconnect power.  When the notebook rebooted, the caps lock light and num lock lights were once again working.

  • I was using my iPhone 5 and the screen randomly went black. I can still hear incoming calls but the screen stays black and unresponsive and stays black. My lock button stopped working last week so I can't restart the phone. What can I do to solve this?

    Hi Lauren,
When troubleshooting power issues, we want to make sure we have followed all steps outlined in the following article:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
    - Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
    - Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion.
    Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
    - Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
    - After at least 15 minutes, if:
                   - The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
                   - The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
                   - Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
    - If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
                   - If the display turns on, go to step 4.
                   - If the display remains black, go to next step.
    - Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to
restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
    - If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

  • My iphone shuts off randomly and the button is too sensitive. Like I don't even press the lock button and it shuts off. This happened after the 7.1 update. It's on the iphone 5.

My iphone shuts off randomly and the button is too sensitive. Like I don't even press the lock button and it shuts off. Also when my finger barely rubs over the lock button, it shuts off too. This happened after the 7.1 update. It's on the iphone 5. Someone help me. I just want to fix this. Maybe if it's possible I can disable the lock button.

The lock button does not turn OFF the iPhone. It will give you a screen with the option to turn OFF the iPhone. Possibly the battery is faulty. Make Genius reservation and take iPhone to Apple store for free battery diagnostic testing and evaluation.

  • Iphone 4s won't turn on. broken lock button. It just randomly turned off and won't turn back on. Can't go to apple store because going on vacation. Please help

iPhone 4ws won't turn on. I have a broken lock button. It just randmoly turned off and won't turn on. I can't go to the apple store because I'm going on vacation. Someone please help

Your phone is broken; there's no magic solution for you.  You can try plugging it in to wall power and see if this turns the phone on, but if it doesn't, you can either go on vacation without your iPhone, or make the time to visit the Apple store before you leave.

  • My power/lock button presses itself randomly?

My iPhone 3GS's power/lock button decides to click itself whenever an object or my hand is near the button or just the top of my phone in general. Also, this causes the phone to turn on itself after I have switched it off. Can anyone offer any help? Thanks.

    Hi mickeyneedshelp,
Thanks for the question. Based on what you stated, it seems like a button on the iPhone is not working. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you isolate or resolve the issue.

If the Sleep/Wake button doesn't work
On iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, the Sleep/Wake button is on the right side of the device, near the top. On earlier models, the Sleep/Wake button is on the top of the device, toward the right side.
If the Sleep/Wake button isn't working and your iOS device is on, follow these steps:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button.
If you see "slide to power off," turn off your device and then turn it on again.
If you can't turn off your device, try to reset it.
If the Sleep/Wake button still doesn't respond, follow these steps and test again:
Check for debris or dirt around the Sleep/Wake button and clean it with a soft cloth.
    Remove any case or film.
If you can't turn on your iOS device, connect it to an A/C adapter. When your device is charged, try the steps above again. If the battery is extremely low on power, your device might display a black screen for up to 10 minutes (up to 20 minutes for iPad) before you see a charging indicator on the screen.
If you have an iPhone 5 and the Sleep/Wake button still isn't working, or works intermittently, you might be eligible for this replacement program.
If you've followed the steps above and the Sleep/Wake button still doesn't respond, if it works intermittently, or if it's damaged, contact Apple Support to set up service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • IPhone 4s Randomly Shut Down and Will Not Start- Broken Lock Button.

Sent a snapchat and shortly after my phone shut down. I had 30% battery. Can't get it to restart despite having it on the charger for 30+ minutes and holding the home button for long periods of time. Tried plugging it into my mac but itunes isn't picking up on it. My lock button has been broken for about 3 months now and I've been using assisted touch, so unfortunately resetting hasn't been an option for me. I have not yet updated to iOS 7.1.1. Please help if possible!

Connect to a wall outlet so you have solid power, then do a reboot by holding both the power and home buttons until the apple logo appears, ignore the red slider if that appears.

  • My iphone lock button does not work and it randomly shut off. i need help!

the lock button has not been working.. i was using my phone, put it down for like 30 seconds and wont turn back on!

Are you using a case to protect the iPhone? If you are try taking it off and seeing if the button works normally then.
If you don't have a case on the iPhone, try restarting or restoring the iPhone.
If that doesn't take care of it, the iPhone will need service.

  • My Iphone 4s keeps locking itself, as if I pressed the "lock button"

    I bought a new Iphone 4s,
Since the minute I activated it, it randomally turns itself on and off, locking the screen etc.
Sometimes it stopps for several hours, and then starts to lock again every five seconds.
If i turn it off, it turns back on by itself.
I'm pretty sure the problem is with the "lock button", it sends signals even when i dont touch it at all.
    What can I do?
    thanks
