Lock icon by battery, safari won't work, covered by grey screen

lock icon by battery. saferi locked. How do I turn lock off?

The lock icon by the battery gauge means that the screen rotation is locked. Read this and the article in the link.
First check the side switch on the side of the iPad above the volume control. Try flipping the switch the other way.
If that switch did not unlock the screen, then do this. Double tap the home button to bring up the task bar at the bottom. Swipe all the way to the right in the task bar. Look all the way on the left side and see if there is a lock icon there. If so, tap it and see if the lock icon disappears.
You can set the side switch to either mute system sounds or to lock the screen. Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Lock Rotation or Mute. Whichever function you choose for the side switch, the other function will be available in the task bar.
Read this about the side switch.

For this issue with Safari try these steps.
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. In iOS 4.3 - clear history, cookies and cache.  Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work - quit Safari - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Finally - if nothing else works - reset the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Since the iOS7 update on my iPad 2, I am having trouble charging it if it runs all the way down, and now, my Safari won't work at all, and it locks up when I click on Safari in the Setting section.  I have tried restoring, and Safari still does not work??

I cannot reset the Ipad either, Safari won't work, and it won't charge properly if the battery runs all the way down...

Thanks for that. Much more constructive than the last comment. It's only the restriction code I can't recall, not the access passcode. So I can currently access the device, just not age restricted content. Does that's make a difference? I also wondered if anyone knew how many attempts you get to try to get it right. Now tried 21 times and so far nothing bad has happened but I am concerned I'll eventually be completely locked out of the device. That doesn't seem in the spirit of things though. Surely it's foreseeable that a child could repeatedly try to guess the code so I can't see that it would be right to lock the device down completely in that circumstance, particularly if the access code is being typed in correctly every time.
    Thanks

  • Safari won't work with CNN Pipeline and other sites all of a sudden?

Safari won't work with CNN Pipeline and other sites all of a sudden? A few weeks ago Safari was working OK but now I often have to use Firefox to visit certain webpages.
Anyone else having this same problem?
    Is there a quick fix?
    I'm using Safari 2.0.4
    Thanks.

    Hi QuickTimeKirk,
I have WMP version 9, as well. I do not use F4M, for many users f4mac is what helps.
I find some items work while others do not. I always get an alert about the wmp , which version it is, takes very long to load, I find it is not consistant with Safari, as seems the poster of this topic has found.

though 41 errors is not as poor as some, Firefox handles the site better than Safari, imo.
Some sites just work better with Firefox or an other browser.

new version of safari won't work on mac 10.7.5, can't be removed, can't be replaced with old version

When I try to open safari a message says: You can't use this version of the application Safari with this version of Mac OS X 10.7.5. The application requires Mac OS X 10.9 or later.
I see Recovery needs Wi Fi which is not available here and Recovery is loaded with a list of  potential disasters.
To heck with Safari I'll just use Firefox. Apple sure screwed up here judging from the multitude of similar complaints on the internet.

  • I just upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now Safari won't work.  What version of Safari do I need?

I finally got around to updating to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and now Safari won't work.  It was version 4.0.5.  I know I should of upgraded prior but didn't need to because everything was working.  Any suggestions how to fix this?

Are you opening Safari directly from /Applications rather than using a Dock shortcut ?.
If the one in /Applications won't work either - what happens exactly... if there's a crash report, please post it here.
Also, check Software Update, and/or manually install  Safari 5.1.9 for Snow Leopard

I have an Acer Aspire 7741.  I want to disable the CAPS LOCK ICON because it interferes with my work.  Microsoft states this is a  utility that is on the computer, not something that is controlled by Windows software.  Help, please.  This is the only computer I use that does this and it's quite annoying at times.

it must already be installed on your system, normally it enables the Fn+F functions and over things like Caps lock. http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Application/LaunchManager/LaunchManager_Dritek_4.0.5_W7x86W7x64_A.zip?acerid=634061190269930459&Step1=NOTEBOOK&Step2=ASPIRE&Step3=ASPIRE%207741&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=PA_6

Macbook Pro (2011) froze while working, forced shut down, now won't turn on. Grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel for hours. Help?
Unfortunately do not know the operating system since I never updated anything and I can't get in to it.
    Thanks for your assistance.

If you want to preserve the data on the boot drive, and it's not already backed up, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is not fully functional. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    1. Boot from the Recovery partition or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) Launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.”
    2. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, boot the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    3. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.

  • My MacBook won't boot past the grey screen.. help!

Today I was having a problem with Safari. For some reason, it kept restarting. This annoyed me, so I restarted my MacBook. Unfortunately, it won't boot past the grey screen, with the thing spinning in the middle. I've been into disk utility and it says my HDD is fine. I restarted from this, and yet it still won't boot. Can anyone suggest what's wrong/what to do?
    Thanks in advance

Retrieving data using Target Disk Mode:
    1) Shut down both computers
    2) Connect the two computers using a Firewire cable
    3) Start up the working computer.
    4) Once the working computer is ready, startup your MacBook with the T key held down.
    5) Your MacBook's hard drive should appear as an external hard drive on the working Mac. Drag & drop any files you want to save.

    Hi guys.
I've had my MacBook Pro for 2 years now. Last night it suddenly kept glitching to a dark grey screen every now and then, then it would flash yellow / blue spots, and now it won't go past the grey screen even when I reboot it.
I don't think I can access my disk anymore as I've moved across countries since I've first gotten my laptop.  it was working perfectly fine before  it kept going to the dark grey screen with a little blue on the bottom.
If it helps, my camera light is still on, and it seems that my computer is working properly itself, but won't go past this grey screen.
I'm a college student and am really panicking about this - can anyone please tell me what to do?
Thank you & sorry for the long post.

What operating system are you running on it? (iOS 5.1 is for iPhone, iPad...not a Mac).

Hi, I need some serious help immediately.  I have been using an external hard disc to watch movies and stuff on my MacBook. However last night I removed the external hard disc accidentally without closing the programs that were still using the data from the hard disk and hence the complete MacBook got hanged and nothing responded. I tried using command Q to shut down the program buy it didn't help either. So finally I gave up and shut down the MacBook manually by pressing the power on/off button.
However when I tried restarting my MacBook I faced a serious problem. The start up won't boot beyond the grey screen showing a folder sign with a question mark sign in it .. I just don't know what to do. Somebody please help me and guide me through this problem
    Awaiting quick response
    Gratitude in advance
    Regards

If you try booting your Mac holding down the Option key, you should see the icon for Macintosh HD. Try selecting that to boot. If you can get in that way, go to System Preferences > Startup Disk and select your Mac HD, then click Restart.
If you can't see the Mac HD, the volume may indeed need repair as Niel said.

    Mac OS Version builds
When did yours come out? what does the above show as model and minimum build?
You should have yoru OEM OS X DVD, not one from another Mac, or retail, though the last retail OS X DVD was a year ago 10.6.3.
If it installed, I don't see an issue unless the drive had corrupt directory etc.
What you need to do is repair your boot drive or restore from backup.

  • Safari won't work:Almost ready to downgrade to Mac OS 10.3.9

I upgrade Mac OS 10.3.9 to Mac OS 10.4, and Software Update worked fine with the initial batch of updates. However, upon the installation of final updates took place, both Safari and Software Update stopped working (I installed the latest updates this morning).
The problem with Safari is as follows: I can access all the Apple forums, but nothing else, not even the Downloads page. Safari won't access any other URL on the Internet. I got so tired of tinkering with Safari that I decided to erase the hard drive and go through the whole process one more time (erased/reinstalled, updated today), and the results are the same.
I also reset Safari, trashed its icons, cleared the Cache, Cookies, Cleared both Java Caches, etc.
For some reason the Network access to the Internet does not take the same path as Software Update does. If i could get this iMac's Software Update to work, then the problem with Safari won't exist (Software Update takes the same path as Safari would to access a variety of URL's).
The Network connection allows me to check, retrieve, and send mail, and with Safari I can access this and other Apple forums, however. A couple of friends (technicians) and I have been working on this problem for a couple of days now.
I believe that a software malfunction is introduced into the Network settings when updating, but I haven't been able to narrow it. If I don't solve the problem within a couple of days. I am giving-up on OS 10.4 (now 10.4.2), and revert to Mac OS 10.3.9.
It would be nice if Apple would have a Mac OS 10.4.2 installer instead of having to upgrade with downloads.

The retail version of OS X Tiger and Leopard do not include iLife. It is bundled with the restore disks when you buy a new Mac. If you have an older version of iLife you can install it on Leopard or Tiger by inserting the restore disk and click 'install bundled software'. You may want to buy iLIfe '08 for maximum compatibility and new features. (I'm guessing your version if iLife is quite old).
I'd personally recommend Leopard as it's the latest and greatest, although you should upgrade your RAM as 512mb is the bare minimum.
I also recommend you use the 'erase+install' option as people generally don't have many issues installing OS X this way. (Compared to an upgrade install for example).
