Lock/power button jammed

this is my third iphone 4 since november 2011, all hardware problems, i didnt drop or anything, first was the power button was jammed, got a new one, then there was so sound, so i got this one for about 3 months and now the power button is jammed again, this is beginning to become a pain, why are these refurbished iphones so ******? should i bring it in to apple, will they replace it for free? and how do i know this wont happen again and again

It depends on whether or not it's determined to be physical damage caused by a drop etc. If the phone is under warranty and it's determined not to be from misuse or physical damage, they should swap it out for you. If it's physical damage and the store is tough about their terms, it may cost you $199. Hopefully they'll be able to swap it from the LED flash issue, since that seems to be a hardware defect.

My IPhone 4 won't turn on, but my lock/power button is also jammed. What should I do? What is wrong?

With USB Cable connect iPhone to power source, charger or USB port of computer. The iPhone should begin to start immediately.

  • Iphone 4s power button jammed twice

I Purchased the Iphone4s in Nov. 2011. The power button jammed in August 2012. They replaced it for free and 5 months later it jammed again. They said since it is out of warrenty that I had to pay for a new one. They showed me how to use AssistiveTouch. It very annoying because I  waste battery because I can't lock the phone and sometimes the phone does not automatically go off beause it is  in my pocket.
I understand it is out of warranty, but the power button is a well known defect in the Iphone.
I really like the IPhone 4S but this is the 2nd phone that barley made it halfway through the intended warranty. I want to get another Iphone when my upgrade is avalaible, but I can't see bying another Iphone and having the same issue.
    What should I do?

If your upgrade is to another 4S, then you get free replacements for 2 years with the AppleCare if the button dies. So, even if your luck is on the bad side again, you'll pay for that AppleCare in two replacements. You can always get the $69 AppleCare which does the same thing, except it doesn't include provisions for accidental damage.
Anyway, you're luck with it happening to two phones isn't good, but it's also unusual. If the phone was a refurb that might have something to do with it.
I mean, I would say go for it, cause even if the lock button does jam, you get a hardware coverage for the first year, which means you don't pay to fix it, just take it to an Apple store for exchange. You pay $69 when you upgrade, then you get that perk for two years. I say it's worth it.

  • IPhone 5 unresponsive lock/power button

Hey, I purchased my 16gb iPhone 5 on launch day, however within the last month or two I have had nothing but trouble with the lock/power button. In order to use the button i have to press the lock button roughly ten times in one are before it will actually lock my iPhone. I cannot lock my phone a majority of the time, take screen shots, once my phone crashed and switched itself off i couldnt get the phone back on for a good wee while, resetting the phone without itunes has been a huge issue too.
I have factory reset the phone through itunes and continued to search for numerous solutions, nothing seems to work. I stay pretty far out from an Apple store and have tried contacting apple via phone though they just told me to reset ect and when i told them that wasnt working the guy highiligted there was nothing more the company could do for me. I love apple and the quality most of their products have, I do however feel rather let down by my iPhone five as i have had other issues with it too.
Can anybody reccomend anything else to try if they have had the same issue?? or if you have gone to an apple store have they been able to replace it?? its a pretty pricey journey to make for no solution to be offered.

I have this problem by myself and a collegue also.
Okay Apple will change the phone. Here in Germany we can change the product 3 times and as i see and hear it the power button problem is a big one, and because even on low usage time the problem appears. What if i changed the iPhone 5 already 3 times and the 3rd one has the same problems? i want a working iPhone 5.
@rebecca_tait Did you change the iPhone already? If yes, does the new iPhone 5 have a better Power Button?

  • Where can i repair my iphone 5 lock/power button?

I have a problem with my iphone 5 lock/power button, it works randomly, but the main issue is that my carrier won't agree to repair/replace it under warranty since it has some minor scratches in the sides.
Here (at mexico) we do not have apple stores so I can't take it there, also apple refuses to take it under warranty because the iphone was purchased directly with the carrier. Any suggestions on how can i solve this issue?
I think it kinda lame to have the year long warranty just to realize you cant make it valid here at mexico under some dumb technicallity.

Until you sort out the "dumb technicallity". Use Assistive Touch for perfect Virtual Lock Button. Tap Settings App > General > Accessibility > Assistive Touch > ON > tap new white screen button > Device > Lock. This can even be used to turn iPhone OFF. To turn ON connect to power, charger or USB of computer.

  • Power button jammed on my ipod nano 6g!

My iPod nano's power button is jammed! I really like the iPod but if its too expensive to get it repaired I'm ditching the idea! Its not under warranty! My iPod nano 1g was replaced with this one by apple! My 1g worked fine and this broke down quickly .. I started using it only a few days back!

It's $65, since Apple gives 8GB models for those using the iPod nano 1st generation replacement program.

  • IPod power button jammed

I have an iPod 4th generation which is pretty old, but just a couple days ago, the power button got stuck.  This is the first time that this happened to me, so do I have to get it replaced, or is there another solution? Thank you!

    Hello, SparklingSofia.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I would recommend trying the troubleshooting steps in the section labeled Buttons and Switches.  These steps are labeled for the iPhone, but they will also work for the iPod touch.

  • Lock/Power button issue.

When I press my lock button the phone will lock itself then will ocasionally bring up the power down option as if I had held it down.  Also it has started locking itself randomly when I'm using it (except on phone calls).  Is this something wrong with the button itself or are there other issues with the phone.  Everything else works fine with the phone and I have no other issues with it at all.

    Hey mate
Seems to be a issue in the actual phone ....
If you still have warranty you can get a free replacement !!!!! At apple store , authorised service provider and apple care ... If not the replacement price will be a cost of $179.95 + plus 3 months hardware warranty
I'll leave 2 articles below one for Genius Bar 2 apple care phone numbers :)

  • Lock/power button doesn't work and phone tries to turn itself off

So this morning i woke up and for some reason my power/lock button on my iphone 4s doesn't work, but that's not the biggest problem because there are work around's. the real weird thing is that now my phone just decides its going to shut down. It will randomly bring up the screen to swipe to shut down even when im not even holding my phone. Unfortunately my phone is out of warranty so I am getting ready to do a restore but other than that i have no idea what else i might be able to do.
    any help is welcomed.

Here is Apple's article on jailbreaking. It is against the terms of this Apple forum to help with jailbroken devices.  Jailbreaking frequently causes problems.

  • Pressing the Lock/Power button now adjust the volume

When I am done using the phone (S3) I've always pressed the right bottom (Power / Lock) so that the screen will blank out.
Now, since the 4.3 upgrade, when I push the right hand Power/Lock button, 1/2 of the time, it brings up the VOLUME control.
This is a real pain, and I do not see a way to disable.
Please advise, this is very fustrating.

Thanks Ann, It's weird, It just started with the upgrade, but I will make a conscience effort to watch that. It could very well be the case, which would be an easy fix.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

  • IPhone 5 lock/power button not as hard and is close to flat down?

I bought this iphone 5, 25 weeks ago. I took extremely good care of it because I would freak out if theres even a tiny scratch on the phone.
This iphone 5's condition is almost close to new except the fact that the lock button isn't as hard anymore. It's almost close to flat and when i gently move it, it wiggles. Have this ever happened to anyone before? I know this happened a lot to the iphone 4/4s and my iphone 4s was completely flat down so I hate having the lock button flat down and I know my iphone 5 is close to being flat! I was wondering if I bring this to apple would they fix it? Would they charge me? I still have the warranty or apple care but it's not apple care + . How would apple fix this ? I feel like if I bring it to apple, they would be like if it works, it is fine and won't fix it for me. Any suggestion before I make an appointment? /:

None of us here have crystal balls and can predict what Apple will do for you.  Bring it in and see what they say.

  • My top lock/power button stopped working. It is just stuck and can not be pushed. It happened out of no where I have not dropped my phone or anything it's been in an otterbox the entire time I've had it. It is an iPhone 4 and is still under warranty.

If I make an appt at apple will they fix it with no charge or replace my phone? I have to drive an hour to the nearest store so I don't want to make the trip for nothing.

Apple doesn't fix phones.  They'll replace it on the spot.

  • How can I restart my iPhone 4 if the lock/power button doesn't work? I know I can turn it off using the assistive touch button but how would I get it back on?

    Help me!

Has to be a working phone to trade it in at an Apple Store (recycle) towards a new one. You can do an out-of-warranty replacement for $149 USD and you will get a service replacement iPhone 4 with a 90 day warranty. Make a Genius Bar appointment before you go.
