Lock screen when sleeping

i would like to have a way that, when i close my macbook, the computer goes to the same place as when i click "login window..." in the user menu extra. so that, when i open it again, i see the login window with the default background instead of a place to put my password to get back to my computer and the possibility to push "switch user."
this way i can close my computer and then if my roommate or friend opens it they will see a "guest" button instead of ask me for my password. do i have any options? i found a program called "sleepwatcher" and it worked once, but didn't keep working in tiger. what can i do?

yeah that is to show A login window, but i want THE login window. where it has a list of users (myself and the guest).
It has the default leopard space background... it shows up when i start up my computer... but when i wake the computer i have a black screen and my name shows in one box and a password in the other.

  • Windows always shows lock screen when idle, ignores setting

On Windows 8, I had my computer set up so that the screen would turn off after a period of inactivity. When I would move the mouse or press a key, it would resume without asking me to log in. After upgrading to Windows 8.1, it is now always showing me the
lock screen when resuming from idle. In the lock screen settings, I found a new option named "When my PC is inactive, show the locks screen instead of turning off the screen". I have disabled this setting, but my computer still locks every time the
    screen turns off.
How can I get my computer to stop locking when it is idle?

    Hi,
What about the settings in Screen Saver? Please check the Option "On resume, display logon screen" is unchecked.

    Hi Liz,
Sorry to hear you are having a similar problem.  Last night I went to the tool bar at the top of iphoto, clicked on "File",  then clicked "Browse Backups" in the drop down menu.    I have an external hard drive that is set up to Time Machine.   The Browse Backups  opened the iphoto pages in the Time Machine.  I selected a date one day ahead of the day I performed the now infamous update, and it showed my iphoto library as it had existed that day.   I then clicked  "Restore Library" at the bottom right corner of the Time Machine screen.   Roughly 2 hours later my iphoto was back to normal.   When I opened iphoto there was a message saying I need to upgrade my program to be compatible with the new version of iphoto(version 9.2.1).  I clicked "Upgrade" and within seconds it had done whatever upgrading it needed to do.
The only glitch in the restoration was that it restored the library as it appeared last week, so I no longer had photos I had imported this past weekend.   I simply went back to the Browse Backups in the drop down menu,  when Time Machine opened I selected the page showing my pictures from this weekend and again said to Restore Library.   Roughly 45 minutes later the library was restored including the most recent photos.
I am now a happy camper.
I don't know if any of this will be of help to you because your email says you are having trouble with photos imported after the upgrade was performed.   Have you had any pop up notices when you first open iphoto,  that tell you you need an upgrade to be compatible with the new iphoto?     If so have you clicked "upgrade"?
Good luck Liz,  if you have Time Machine running as a back up to your library, maybe you wil be able to get help there, by following my instructions above.   Otherwise,   good luck with your investigations.   I'd be interested in hearing how you make out.

    kaeandcolesmon,
If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
    See:
Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

  • Is there a way to keep the screen from lighting up every time an email comes in, but still be able to see the email on the lock screen when you press the home button?

Is there a way to keep the screen from lighting up everytime an email comes in, but still be able to see the email on the lock screen when you press the home button?  This is killing my battery, but also is kinda the whole point of the notification center in my mind.

This is something I've been wondering. I am a bit like you, I like being able to have a glance at emails or Facebook updates without having to log in, and I think it would be great to be able to turn off the notification switching the screen on, especially for emails as I do get a lot, and Facebook, but I somehow doubt it is possible.
I am currently monitoring how much this eats up my battery charge. On a normal day, after an overnight charge, I would probably still have 30%-40% left when I leave work in the evening. Today, I was down to 48% by lunchtime, where I've usually got a good 60-70% left... Might have to turn email notifications off on lock screen until it's possible to have them appearing in the list without flashing me...

My iphone 5 get stuck in locked screen when two or more missed calls or messages shown on locked screen list

    Hi bhagath1339,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
The first troubleshooting steps I would recommend in this situation would be restarting and if the issue continues, resetting the iPhone.
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
If the issue continues after restarting and resetting, it may be necessary to restore your iPhone to isolate software versus hardware. Please follow the attached article if you need assistance restoring the device.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

  • Yoga - Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys and 30 % CPU usage after lock screen or sleep

Hi! After returning from sleep or lock screen a process called "Thinkpad message receiver for shortcut hot keys" starts using about 30% of the CPU. Temps go upo to 60-70 degrees battery is being depleted quite fast. This process doesn't stop until I end it using task manager. Once ended that way, it doesn't start again even if I use sleep or lock screen. Need help with this!
I didn't use to have this problem like a month ago or so. Probably came into existence after some updates.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I am using Kaspersky Internet Secuirty 2015, when I resume my TPY from sleep, the message receiver for shortcut hot keys will show up and use 20-35% processing power which cause the laptop to heat up.

  • Decline call ios 7 lock screen, not sleep wake double tap

I am sure the frequency of sleep wake button will kill the button
Ios 6 has it, please give it back.

Don't know if a Soft Reset would Fix it, but it won't risk anything either.  Hold down the Sleep button and the Home button at the same time until the Apple logo appears then wait for the Reset to return you to the Lock Screen.  Even if it works, you won't know until the next time you push the Sleep button to Reject a Call.  I think you may want to depress the Sleep button twice rapidly to reject the incoming call.

  • Flux Box lock screen after sleep

I (finally) got flux to go to sleep when I close the laptop lid, but when it wakes up, it's right there where I left it, no login or anything. Besides logging out before hand, is there a way to get it to lock when it goes to sleep? I found a solution that "sort of" works, I added xlock to the key that causes it to wake from sleep, but it flickers the desktop for a bit of a second, so I was wondering if there was another way.
While we're at it, how do you get a laptop to go to sleep when you close the lid? I have to close then open mine, as it only seems to sense the opening, though obviously Windows senses it close. I've been using xev to log key presses, but it doesn't seem to pick up the closing action.

/etc/acpi/handler.sh is the file you're looking for. It should already contain a "button/lid" branch. Put this there:
    grep -q closed /proc/acpi/button/lid/C154/state && (xlock &) && pm-suspend
You will have to substitute 'C154' for whatever you have, and 'pm-suspend' for whatever you use to suspend.
Naturally, the acpid daemon needs to be running.
Now, the above assumes closing the lid immediately generates an acpi event, which may not be the case, based on what you said.
I have to close then open mine, as it only seems to sense the opening,
To test, either do as I suggest above, or run `acpi_listen -t 10`, close the lid, wait 15 seconds, open it and see if acpi_listen shows something like this:
    button/lid C154 00000080 00000005
I also assume you got this thing to halfway work using something other than acpid's handler.sh. Therefore, before you try with acpid, make sure the other method is disabled (unless you want it to suspend twice in a row or something like that).
    edit:
I forgot to say (though it's rather obvious): the key is to lock the screen before you suspend.

Satis has good recommendations.  If the don't do the trick...
You may be able to improve the speed with some software work but it could also be your disk is corrupt or failing.
    Try an SMC Reset:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Is it faster now?  If not, proceed.
    Backup your data immediately:
Before proceeding you should make sure you have a current backup.  If it has been getting slower over time your disk could be a failing slowly.  SATA drives have two retry modes: short and long.  They can continue operating as read errors are increasing.  The long retry cycle is very long and can cause significant performance degradation.  If it has started long retries then it is likely to get worse and eventually fail.  SSDs also have a failure mode where the fail slowly.

    and
    Mac Performance Guide: http://www.thesafemac.com/mpg/
    Safe Mode:
    - Reboot the system in Safe Boot mode.
    - Power on the Mac and when you hear the bong, hold down the shift key until it is booted.
    - Be patient, this will take some time while it checks the filesystem.
If it runs faster in Safe Boot mode then it is probably third-party software compatibility issues.
    - Restart.
    - Does it run faster after the restart?
Run Disk Utility (found in the Applications folder):
-In Disk Utility look at the S.M.A.R.T. Status.
If it says the disk has a hardware problem that can't be repaired then stop.
Your system could be in danger of failing at any time and you need to replace the disk soon.
      Back your system up twice.
(You will need a second external disk for the second backup.)
Consider using Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper! for the second backup to clone the disk.
Jump to the Hardware replacement section and seek expert help.
Repair Disk Permissions and Verify Disk.  If Disk Permissions reports errors, don’t worry.  That is normal.  If Verify Disk reports errors then they need to be repaired.  Otherwise skip to the reinstall OS X section.
    Repairing your system disk:
    - Boot in recovery mode.
(Boot and when you hear the bong hold down the
Command and R keys simultaneously until you see the recovery screen.)
    - Select disk utility.
    - Select your system drive.
    - Repair Disk.
    - Did it complete without errors?
If not you may need a new disk.  Seek expert help.
If it completed normally then reboot.
-Did it run faster and is it more responsive?
    Reinstall OS X:
If it is still slow you should reinstall OS X.
    - Boot in Recovery Mode again.
    - Follow the instructions to reinstall OS X.
    - Now does it run faster?
    Hardware replacement or upgrade?
Hopefully by now your Mac is back to its normal speed.  If a hardware repair is indicated take it to an Genius bar at an Apple store for a free diagnosis and estimate of repairs.  You can compare their estimate with DIY repairs.
    Genius reservation http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/ .
or find an Apple Authorized Service Provider https://locate.apple.com/country
You can speed it up further by upgrading some hardware.  For memory, disk or SSD replacements and upgrades check out OWC http://eshop.macsales.com/, Crucial: http://www.crucial.com/ and Kingston http://www.kingston.com/us/.
Consider an upgrade to 8 GB or RAM ($100).
If your Mac has a disk and it won’t repair properly, is low on disk space, or you just want a considerably faster disk,, check out an upgrade to an SSD-Hybrid disk. Google "Seagate XT".
Good luck.  May the software fixes do the trick.
