How to activate kiosk mode in xfce4, so end-user won't break the wm/desktop configuration we configured for many to use it ?

I've decided my association's mates to choose Arch as our desktop PCs OS (we do this to provide basic Internet / office / image manipulations capabilities to the ~50 young workers we voluntary work for).
PCs are PIII 800MHz with 256MB RAM & 7-10GB HD.
On top of easy to configure & fast Arch Linux, I opted for xfce4 wm for the same reasons
Now we configured grub bootscreen & xfce, with images made by our president (beeing a wonderfull graphist). Quite everybody find the beta PC fast, accurate, good looking and easy to use and so far enjoying the shift from previous win98 PentiumII PCs very much
A few screenshots : the desktop ; Firefox & Gaim ; Gimp & gQview
Now we couldn't solve 2 configuration's issues :
- How to activate kiosk mode in xfce4, so end-user won't break the wm/desktop configuration we configured for many to use it ?
Neither intensive reading of xfce4's doc nor googling for a couple of hours helped us activate it
- auto(un)mount users usb stick : tried autofs that could do the job if we find how to show icons on xfce4's desktop (didn't search hard yet) ; tried ivman but actually didn't work.
Do you have some tips to help us solve those 2 last issues ?

kioskrc is to be located in /opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/kiosk/kioskrc not into /etc/xdg/xfce4.
Here our kioskrc which locks effectively any changes to xfce4 panel & desktop.
As we customized them, I had to place our customized config files into /opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/panel/ & ~/desktop/.
# /opt/xfce4/etc/xdg/xfce4/kiosk/kioskrc
[xfce4-panel]
CustomizePanel=%powerusers
[xfce4-session]

These options might be dangerous. If someone who knew nothing about the program with this function and he uses this program, it might hurt his system. Since this, it would be better not to post this code in the forum to avoid someone tried the code and hurt

How to Lock particular template for user editing.

Hi Gurus,
we have some templates created on top of infoset querrys to display the output in specific format. I want to lock particular templates for user modification. That means when the user is trying to change the template layout and try to save with the same name it should not allow to do that. if the user wants in another name then it must allow the user to do that.
How can i achieve that.

Use a naming convention on templates with a particular prefix, ie ZCORP***. Then create an authorization object that specifies that templates with the prefix ZCORP cannot be changed or deleted. The user will be able to changed and save under a different name, but not the same one.

Adding Adobe Content Viewer to Desktop for users without InDesign 5, 5.5, 6

We are starting to sell digital advertising and it would be nice if Adobe Content Viewer could be downloaded to the desktop for these advertisers who do not have tablet devices nor have InDesign 5, 5.5 and 6 on their machine. They are wanting to proof their ads in an interactive format on their desktop.

I also would like to see a Content Viewer for people without InDesign.
Better yet would be the ability to embed a viewer into a Folio, like a flash with a projector.

Save for Web (m4v) Kiosk Mode question

I exported a QT m4v and was able to imbed it into my web page fine, but I want to have it playback in kiosk mode. Go Live shows a kiosk mode but it appears that it is not taking.
Any suggestions appreciated on how to make this movie controller kiosk. I also opened the move but kiosk mode is not an option, only standard controller, no controller and VR controllers.

Create Alias on Desktop for User Folder

This is my first Mac and I know it's probably easy to do, but how do I create a Alias on my desktop to my User directory? When ever I try to drag or Control Drag "Mike" from my finder window to my desktop, it just removes it from the finder.

Hi Mike, I suspect you are having some confusion with several different things about the Finder. When you open a Finder window it generally has three parts: a Sidebar along the left side, a toolbar across the top, and its contents in the main section. The Sidebar is actually collection of aliases, and you can change things that appear in it. To remove something, simply click, hold and drag out of the Sidebar, the item disappears with a poof. I would guess that is what you are doing. You can add folders (and files) to the Sidebar by dragging from the main body of the window into into the Places section of the Sidebar. Apple loves the Sidebar--but its nature confuses many (maybe even most) new users, and quite a few older ones as well.
Also, to create an alias to something by drag 'n drop, you must hold down BOTH the Option and Command keys and then drag it where you want it. You can tell you are creating an alias because the cursor changes to a little curvy arrow.
But the easiest way to quickly open you home folder is the one mentioned above: just click the Finder icon in the Dock. If for some reason that default behavior has changed, go to Finder, open Preferences, click General, and reselect it from the drop down menu.

Kiosk Mode for a Museum Exhibit

I am helping to put together a museum exhibit and need some help with getting my Surface Pro 2 into Kiosk mode. The hope is that I will be able to have a flocking tutorial on the surface pro 2 and have visitors be able to manipulate the tutorial and view
it on the tablet. However, I need to make sure that the visitor cannot navigate away from the screen. Currently, the tutorial is on an 'executable JAR file" and it's working great. My question is, how can I prevent the visitor from using the tablet for
any other reason other than the flocking tutorial on the file? It's not a matter of just restricting access but entirely blocking access to the desktop, app, internet, everything. The museum doesn't have the staff to make sure that the tablet is always
opened to the file. I need to make sure that the screen never leaves the file. When I use the family settings and restricting access, it will prevent the user from being able to use an app, or search the internet, but it will have a screen that says access
is blocked. I need to make sure that the security screen that states that the access is blocked doesn't even come up. In other words,
I need to make sure that the only thing the tablet can be used for is this tutorial. I would like to be able to use the tablet normally after the exhibit is taken down.
I don't know much about programming. I have been trying to work with the tech reps at Microsoft but no one has been able to help me and they suggested that I try this forum.
Please help! I need to get this figured out this week because we are installing the exhibit next week.

Kiosk mode and iWeb '08

I have made the upgrade to iWeb '08 and now I don't know how to do some of the things I used to do with '06. I need to disable the "save as" option for .mov files that I post on my site. I also want to make it so that the filed can't be dragged copied to someone's desktop. In '06, I could change the kiosk mode to kiosk mode=true to disable the right click/save as feature in QT Pro.
How do I do this in iWeb '08?

We can open with "iexplore -k www.microsoft.com "to configure the home page .

As a work around ,we can save the Internet Address and then press "Ctrl +O" to open it .

Kiosk mode on a WordPress page using a Poster movie

This is more of a programming question for the web, but it does involve embedding a QuickTime movie.
I'm using the current version of WordPress, 2.9.2, and the movie on the site works as expected on my iPod and my computer. My problem is the lack kiosk mode. When I'm not using a poster frame, kiosk mode works fine. For some reason I can't figure out, the poster frame is disabling kiosk mode during playback.
I would rather not make it as easy as possible for end-users to download my movies. Does anyone have a solution, or the correct code combination, to make kiosk mode work on web pages using a poster movie? Thanks.

Usins OSK in Kiosk Mode

Has anyone found a fix or work around for using Onboard Keyboard in Kiosk mode. I am trying to setup a tablet that opens to an App that needs the OSK.

For your situation, you are using a tablet, the system will pop out the touch keyboard automatically, you do not necessarily to do this.

Cannot connect to newly created SQL 2008 R2 instance. Login failed for user...

I'm not a SQL guy, just figuring my way around here...
I just created a new instance on an existing SQL server. The original instance works fine. On
Database Engine Configuration > Account Provisioning
I selected Windows authentication mode and added several users, myself among them.
Tried to log in with one my account and getting:
TITLE: Connect to Server
Cannot connect to SERVERNAME\INSTANCE.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Login failed for user 'domain\myusername'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)
Guidance/suggestions?

Server Error In '/' Application - Login failed for user xyz ...

Hi, I'm brand new here
I would be ever grateful for help on this. It's probably something simple.
I'm coding a website in C# ASP.NET (http://project.arcza.net). There is a registration page where you send your email, username all that stuff to an SQL server. The SQL server runs on my IIS server too. On Visual Studio, I can debug the website (i.e. launch
it on localhost:12345) and I get a fully working website that I can register as a user and it injects into the SQL server's table. If I query the SQL server, I see the results. So it works fine here.
The problem: if I copy the files for the website into the live IIS directory (as opposed from the Visual Studio preview environment) I get a runtime error thing, I have no idea what this means. The live IIS folder is project.arcza.net and I have disabled
security so you can see the full workings of the probem.
It says login failed for user 'pap'. Pap is a user I have added in SQL server, with username pap and password pap. The credentials are correct. I have added a 'connection string' (I have very little idea what this is) with thees credentials for an SQL server
@ localhost, in IIS manager.

I should also point out that if I edit properties of pap in SQL server's login thing where it lists the accounts, I cannot save the settings (you know the ones where you give it permissions to access, delete, etc?) I can tick them and click okay but if I
reoped properties and click on (I think off the top of my head it's called 'securities' but I may be wrong, it's 2nd from the bottom of the pane on the left) I see the tickboxes remain unticked. Could this have something to do with the "login failed for
'pap'" message I'm seeing?

Kiosk Mode in 4.2 on RHEL5: "No profile for user 'utku1' found" ?

Hello,
After upgrading from SRSS 4.1 to 4.2 EA2 on RHEL5 I experience that all attempts of Kiosk sessions to start fail with an error "No profile for user 'utku1' found" being logged in /var/opt/SUNWkio/home/utku1/.xsession-errors, and also displayed in a popup on desktop.
I have disabled the Kiosk mode, then deleted all Kiosk accounts with ./utconfig -k, and re-created them. Then I have verified that the users exist in /etc/passwd, and that their login directories exist with the correct permissions (they are created by utconfig).
Still, after a reboot of the SunRay server the error persists. Also, I have noticed that the home directories of utku? users disappear once a thin client has attempted to login unsuccessfully using such a Kiosk user.
Searching in the relevant forums and googling did not hit me with a clue-stick so far. Is this a problem related to SRSS itself, or actually a problem the configuration GTK desktop?

I had the same problem a few minutes ago.
My configuration is a Sun Ray server running on RHEL 5.4, configured in Kiosk mode and forwarding connections to a Windows 2003 terminal server.
In the Web admin gui->Logs tab I noticed the following messages:

Notice the message about the libcrypto
In RHEL 5.4 there is libcrypto.so.0.9.8e
I created a symbolic link like this:
n -s /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.8e /lib/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 and I performed a cold restart on the sun ray.
Connections to the Windows server work now.
On the other hand if i wish to allow connections to the Linux server itself, then I unconfigure the kiosk policy.
