Lock the centre point of an object?

I'm using illustrator (CS6) to animate a simple marionette type figure.
I'm using the Rotation tool to turn body parts around their usual connection points, moving the transform centre point each time.  I'm wondering if it's possible to "lock" the centre point for any individual object to a certain offset from the object's actual centre, so that every time I reselect an object to move it I'm always rotating it around exactly the same place.  I find that if I have to move the centre point from the real centre to where I want to rotate around every time, I'm not getting the exact same spot in relation to the object's bounds, which makes for some weird movements.
For example, the rectangle that makes up the upper arm should have its rotation point always about ten pixels down from the top and in the horizontal centre of the object.   The elbow right at the top edge, but also in the horizontal centre, of the lower arm.  etc.

Use symbols.
They've got a registration point. Position the artwork in relation to that reg point.
Ahh, that's an excellent suggestion, thanks!   It looks like it should work.. although there's this bit of the documentation that makes me wonder:
When you create a symbol, you can choose the registration point from any of the 8-point across boundaries or center of the symbol bounding box.
It sounds like I might not be able to set it to any arbitrary position within the symbol.  I'll give it a shot though.. thanks!

  • Suggestion: Be able to move the centre point of the radial tool

    Hi,
    While I'm on a suggestion spere I'll put out the idea that being able to move the centre of the tool would give options such as making a spotlight, even better if we cut bits out using the adjustment brush.
    Thanks for looking and I wish we had post access to the suggestions sub-forum as this is the third idea today!

    Hi,
    I really appreciate the efforts you've gone to but I really am not explaining myself at all well - I could do that just as you suggested, but note the image I linked to - it has a greater exposure setting at the top and fades off at the bottom - I just wish I'd found a better example.
    No matter what you do with the tool as provided you can never get that effect from a single instance of the tool, it will always be in the middle, whereas I would suggest it would be better if it could move around teh effected area, even taking it outside all together.
    Okay, I drew this in photoshop using their lighting tool to help.

  • Finding centre of group of objects

    Hello, sorry to bother you. I've got 6 objects grouped. Illustrator draws a
    box right the way around them all. I would like to make a circle whose
    centre is the exact centre of this box.
    How to find the centre of a group of objects?
    I have managed to do this by dividing the height and width of the box and
    adding the offset etc., but this seems a long way round. Smart guides isn't
    helping.
    Any simple way of doing this?
    Thank you,
    Ariel
    Illy CS2 XPSP3

    I'll tell you what's going on here. I use InDesign much more than Illy.
    InDesign seems to do one very simple thing that Illy doesn't: it allows you
    to snap to the centrepoint of a group. In Illy that centrepoint doesn't even
    get a GUI representation it seems. So my instinct to do this was the ID way:
    snap the ruler to the centre point, draw a circle anywhere and type in 0,0
    as the coordinates for the circle's centre point. Basically as fast as
    aligning (which in InDesign is slower than Illy because you have to lock one
    of the objects). But of course this is impossible
    When that failed, I tried to snap two guides, and again Illy lets you down
    where ID succeeds. (In InDesign guides snap to all the control points of an
    object's bounding box, but not, it seems, in Illy.)
    I guess at this stage I lost hope that Illy actually knows where the centre
    of a group is, and so I headed off to the forum lol.
    However, both suggestions are sensible. Thank you.
    FEATURE REQ.: Add a snappable GUI representation of the centre of groups,
    like in InDesign. Also, make all control points snappable to, like in ID.

  • Can you change the anchor point of a swf in CP5.5?

    I have created a small swf in Flash and have published it.
    I've imported the swf into CP5.5 and applied an effect of anti clockwise rotate and assymetric zoom out in an effort to get it to spiral backwards into oblivion.
    However, it seems to rotate the swf from the top left corner.
    Is there a way to change this anchor point to the centre of the swf?
    Regards

    Col,
    The anchor point of an object in Captivate is always the top left corner of the bounding box. No way to change it (have been pleading for that since long). Only exceptions are Rotate and motion effects, where the center is used.

  • How can I rotate a shape around a centre point in Illustrator?

    Hi all,
    I'm trying to make a pattern in Illustrator and I need to repeat a shape around a centre point, a bit like placing petals around the stigma of a flower. I can do it in Photoshop by moving the centre point of the bounding box to where I want to rotate the shape around, how can I do it in Illustrator?
    I also want to define this as a shape/pattern and use in Photoshop, how do I go about this?
    Many thanks,
    Foxy

    The centroid of a straight-sided polygon is located at the average of its corner points locations. For a given path (a star, for example) you can:
    1. Select the path.
    2. Copy. PasteInFront.
    3. Object>Path>Average>Both.
    For objects with curved segments, you can approximate the centroid by:
    1. Select the path.
    2. Copy. PasteInFront.
    3. Apply some command that adds a bunch of points along the curves (Object>Path>Add Anchor Points, or ZigZag with zero for Size).
    4. Object>Path>Average>Both.
    If you have alot of paths you need to do that for all at once (as when designing a hanging mobile), I have a simple Javascript for that.

  • How to Change the Location of the Anchor Point

    Hi
    Very new to affter effects.... i was wondering if you guys could please tell me how to move the blue anchor for animation of text please.

    If you just want to move the anchor point on your text layer you can do it by hand instead of going in and manually adjusting it from the transform menu as Dave suggested.
    However, by what you've written it seems like there may be some confusion about what moving the anchor point actually accomplishes.  So just to clarify, the anchor point, or the small crosshair icon usually in the middle or corner of the layer, is actually a customizable location that essentially dictates the center around which the position, scale and/or rotation values will change when your layer is animated over time with keyframes.
    For example, if you would like to move the anchor point so that your text rotates around a point near the corner of the layer, you can press the Y key to activate the Pan Behind Tool and move the anchor point to the corner.  If you have CS6 you can hold down the Command Key to lock the anchor point to the center, corner or edge of your layer.  A little square will appear around the Anchor Point when it's ready to lock.
    If you've keyframed some of the properties on a layer and would like to temporarily see how your layer looks without messing up any animation you've done on it, simply duplicate the layer by selecting it in the Comp's layer panel and going to Edit - Copy and Edit - Paste.  That way you can do whatever you'd like on the duplicated layer wihout harming your original  Then do one or more of the following:
    A.) You can reset all of the trnsform properties of the layer by clicking Reset.  This will set your layer back to it's default transform settings.
    B.) Or, you can delete all of the keyframes on an individual property by clicking the stopwatch again.
    C.) Also, clicking the light yellow diamond next to the Source Name will delete a single keyframe and the arrows on either side will move the playhead from keyframe to keyframe.  You can of course always delete keyframes manually by selecting them in the timeline and hitting delete.  Holding Shift will snap the playhead to each keyframe.
    I hope this helps and if you're still having trouble I highly reccomend you start here to learn After Effects or go here for additional information.

  • How can we lock the table?? how can we lock the record

    Hi
    how can we lock the complete table?? how can we lock the record ?/
    Thanks
    Rama

    Lock objects are used to lock the database table while making the modifications on the database table.
    you can create your own lock objects using SE11.
    if you create lock objects on any table system will create two function modules.
    1.ENQUEUE....
    2.DEQUEUE.....
    first one is used to lock the table
    second one used to removing lock on the table.
    lock Table
    CALL FUNCTION 'ENQUEUE_E_TABLE'
    EXPORTING
    tabname = table_name
    EXCEPTIONS
    foreign_lock = 1
    system_failure = 2
    OTHERS = 3.
    Unlock Table
    CALL FUNCTION 'DEQUEUE_E_TABLE'
    EXPORTING
    tabname = table_name

    _SCOPE = 2: The lock is sent to the update program. The update program is responsible for removing the lock. The dialog program which requested the lock no longer has an influence on the lock behavior. This is the standard setting for the ENQUEUE function module.

  • About the "Registry point"?

    Hi to everyone!
    How can i change the registry point of and object?
    I dont mean the pivot, i mean the "registry point".
    When i want to center an object to the perfect center, if i put 50%, this count since the upper left corner, and adds all the height and width of the same object. I want to count since the center of the object.
    How can i do this? Somebody can help me, please? Thnx a lot.

    since any div is a rectangle or a square I suppose you can calculate the coordinate of the center like this:
    the x axis would be at 1/2 width
    and the y axis at 1/2 height.
    var xAxis = 400/2;
    var yAxis = 300/2;
    so the registry point would be at (xAxis, yAxis)
    Therefore if you wanted to center the element  400 x 300 according to a stage that is 500 x 400 and the center point you could use this:
    var xAxis = 400/2;
    var yAxis = 300/2;
    var xPos = (500/2 - xAxis);
    var yPos = (400/2 - yAxis);
    sym.$('Rectangle').css({
         left: xPos,
         top: yPos
    You could generalize this by getting the height of the stage and the height of your element as well as the width of your stage and the owidth of your element and apply the formula.
    var elementHeight = sym.$('Rectangle').height();
    var elementWidth = sym.$('Rectangle').width();
    var stageHeight = sym.$('Stage').height();
    var stageWidth = sym.$('Stage').width();
    sym.$('Rectangle').css({
         'left': stageWidth/2-elementWidth/2,
         'top': stageHeight/2-elementHeight/2
    Here is the file with 2 different elements, a rectangle and an ellipse being centered on the stage according to their registration point which is in this case the middle of the element.
    https://www.box.com/s/79oh194blyk45wjcvw74
    If you wanted to center the element according to its origin, then it would be different.
    Hope this helps.

  • Closed Path Shape draws from centre point only

    Hi,
    Im using AI CS5. When I try to draw a closed shape (rectangle, elipse etc) the shape is always created from the centre point as thought I am holding down 'Alt', even though I am not holding down Alt. When I hold down Alt and draw, the same things happens. I want to revert to drawing from corner to corner. Any ideas?
    Ta,
    A.

    If everything else fails, you may try one of these:
    Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup,
    Move the folder , or
    try the Other options , see item 7.

  • How can I quit my iPhoto screen that as crashed and locked on. The locked screen has no iPhoto file list on the left and the part of the screen that should have uploaded photos is blank except for the rotating download icon in the centre of screen. Help?I

    My SD card reader has caused my iPhoto screen to be locked with no list of files on the lefthand side and a blank main photo area apart from the rotating download icon operating in the centre of the photo part of the screen.
    I have tried to quit iphoto but when I restart it the same locked screen appears.
    I believe I caused this problem when I removed my SD device without first ejecting it when the blank screen appeared without downloading my new photos.
    Can anyone help a 66 year old computer illiterate fool ?.
    Regards

    Use Force Quit (under the Apple menu at the top) to close iPhoto.  Then try opening it again.  If it locks up again force quit and try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists.
    If the problem does not persist try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (select the library and type Command+D) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
    Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.
    Fix #2
    Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
    Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
    Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
    Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
    In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
    Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    If the problem persists in the test library do the following:  make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    Click to view full size
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Set reference point for multiple objects in the middle of the document

    Hello Community,
    I want to mirror a layout.
    So I:
    1. Select all the objekts
    2. Set the reference point to the middle
    3. Mirror the objects
    BUT
    The reference point is the middle of all the OBJECTS. That leads to several objects crossing the border of my document because the layout isn't spread out evenly.
    I want to middle of the DOCUMENT to be the reference point. How can I do that?
    Thanks
    Christian

    Have you fiugured this out on your own?
    I just played around a bit and found a method, but it's not exactly intuitive. Select the object(s), then switch to the Rotate tool. The center of rotation will be defined as one of the transformation handles, but you can drag it to anywhere you like, so move it to the point that you want as the center of your mirror. Hold down the Alt/Opt key, and click the reflect button to make a mirrored copy. Without the modifier key the original objects will mirror their position around the repositioned reference.

  • Lock Object (Not locking the table)

    Hi Guys
    I have a custom table ZDRAD same like standard table DRAD with an additional 'DATE' field . ZDRAD's Key fields are same like DRAD . I have created a lock object 'EZDRAD' where I put name = 'ZDRAD' (Custom table) and mode = 'EXCLUSIVE CUMULATIVE' . • [How-to] Find the middle point between sides of two distant objects.

    [In reference to my attachment]
    I would like to find the middle point between object A's right-most segment (in green) and object B's left-most segment (in blue), quickly, effectively and reliably.
    Ideally, there's a function i'm not familiar with that exists . I would rather not resort to having to create more objects to "figure out" the middle point manually, so-to speak.

    Dandreu,
    In a more general case than assumed in the first post, if you wish to have an actual key point, you may:
    1) Direct Select each of the path segments in question and Ctrl/Cmd+C+F+X+F,
    2) Select either and rotate it by 180 degrees,
    3) Object>Blend>Blend Options, with 1 Step, then Object>Blend>Make, then Object>Blend>Expand,
    4) Select the line in the middle and Object>Path>Add Anchor Point.
    You may also do a similar way where you add an Anchor Point at the middle of the segments and ClickDrag with the Line Segment Tool between them, but that is a bit destructive.

  • How to always rotate objects around the same point, even using the right-click menu?

    I need some of my objects to always rotate around the same point. How can I select a point which will stay that way?
    Using the rotate tool resets after deselecting.
    Also, I'd like to rotate objects around a certain point even when using the right click > Transform > Rotate.
    Is it possible?

    Right, so this is where Illustrator falls short with respect you your need, but only in the sense that the reference point can't be made to stick. You can, however, use Smart Guides to make it so the point is easy to set at exactly the same location, (especially since your object has an anchor point there), manually before each rotation.
