Lock up on recordings

Anyone else had a problem with the Humax YouView box locking up when recording since the last update? It's difficult to reproduce the exact circumstances which cause the problem, but it always seems to occur when a second recording starts when there is one already recording. The current programme on the TV still displays, but the sound mutes and the remote control becomes totally unresponsive. The only way to get the box to do anything is to press the blue centre power on/off button on the box, and restart it. Even then the box sometimes still shows a recording is in progress (by the front panel display) but going to the YouView menu shows no recording in progress. Eventually the record indicator on the box disappears and all is back to normal..... until the next time. I have noticed that it is possible to record two channels at once and view another channel, as long as the three channels are contained within up to two multiplexes, could this be confusing the box?
I've also had a problem with the BT Vision player, (the  BBC Iplayer works perfectly). Although the menus show correctly, none of the films will run, all that happens is a kaleidoscope of pixelations and perhaps a brief burst of garbled sound. Sometimes when I close the player and return to live TV, I get a few seconds of the programme and then the screen goes blank, and changing channel repeats the same effect. I have to turn off the box and restart to get back to normal. I had the same problem when I first got the box about six months ago, and although the helpdesk went through all the usual solutions, they couldn't solve the problem, and escalated it to technical support. Of course, sods law applied, and the day they contacted me the problem disappeared.... until a few days ago.  I didn't feel like going through the same rigmarole again, so after perusing the YouView website I girded my loins and did a "full maintenance Mode Recovery". This seems to have miraculously cured all the problems, at least for now. Beware that if you do this, although you can keep all your recordings (depending on which option you choose), you will have to basically do a complete re-install from scratch.

Yes, I get that sometimes. It affects all players except BBC Iplayer but powering off for a minute and rebooting normally fixes things.  It seems to happen immediately after upgrades.  I'm on my second YouView box after my first one had to be replaced and it didn't happen on box 1 but does on this new one.

  • Lock up and attempted restart on recent recordings

    Recordings made since about 10 days ago are giving me problems. They will lose sound about 1 second before freezing. After about 1 minute the vbox than tries to restart itself, but the restart screen just flickers every 10 seconds like it's recycling. It never gets any where with the restart, I have to pull the power. Restarts ok when power is restored.
    The freeze points are repeatable. I can try playing a recording again and it will freeze at the same frame. I can fast forward and backward past the freeze point as long as I do so before it locks up. There are also multiple freeze points in recordings. The freeze points in the recordings are not at set times or lengths, just appear random.
    Watching live is ok. Signal strength looks the same as it ever did. Older recordings play back without any problem. I've got two other PVRs and have made simultaneous recordings on all three as a test; the vbox has problems, the other two don't even show a flicker.
    Anyone got any ideas. I think the vbox is going faulty. Can't recall exactly how long I've had the vbox but it's over 18 months or so and it's worked nigh on perfectly all the time.

    Some recordings om my 5 year old silver box have begun to freeze after a short time when being replayed. The whole box locks up and won't respond to any command - only depowering and rebooting will unfreeze it. If you try to play the same recording again, the same thing happens. Other recordings play OK.
    Does anyone else have experience of this problem, or know how to fix it?

    If your internet speed is OK, from what you have posted above, it sounds to me that after 5 five years usage, your hard disk drive is knackered (ie worn out) and you need a new box.
    If your in contract, BT will give you the new kit for free. If your not, and they won't (ask anyway, because sometimes they do), you can get a new BLACK box (not silver) off a certain well known auction site. The first syllable of said site is the fifth letter of the alphabet and the second syllable rhymes with 'hay'. Oh, and they cost peanuts.

  • Recordings that keep locking up

    Hi folks,
              ive recorded several items recently....
    Went to play them and then had to pause them.
    When I try to play it again the box is Non responsive to the remote.
    The only way to rectify this is to press the power button on the box off then on and all is ok...
    The remote was new on the 20th July and does work....
    Is there a work around this at all?

  • Losing all my recordings due to an upgrade

    I've just been informed that I will lose all my recordings due to an upgrade in 30 days time. Unfortunately the 2 weeks prior to this I am on holiday and wanted to record things whilst I'm away. Frankly, I am appalled that any upgrade should make us lose recordings and will therefore cancel my contract, seek compensation and change to someone that understands customer needs!

    Will this upgrade affect ALL BT Vision users I would love to know why I have not been notified?
    I am going on Holiday and want to record the Tour de France whilst away so this is terrible news
    Can someone tell me:
    A: WHEN is this upgrade due to take place?
    B: how do I get the information you have been sent?
    c: If I upgrade myself now will I be exempt?
    On top of all the other BT Vision service problems I am experiencing: The rubbish BT Vision box locking up daily! - All my recordings ending 5 mins early! -  BT Vision box reporting no iternet connection when my PC and tablet both have wireless conectivity through the same home hub! this is the worst news possible.
    I am totaly fed up with BT Vision already and I have only had it for two weeks!
    Time to go buy a seperate HDD so I can just record off my TV directly!
    What a total joke and waste of my money BT Vison is turning out to be.

  • Deleting Locked Application on Mavericks

    I have an older version of an application (GoToMeeting) that Mavericks will not allow me to delete because it is "locked." The Locked box is checked and greyed out so I cannot un-check it. All of the ways to "usually" delete are apparently useless now. Ideas??? This affects my work because when we host videoconference calls we record the sessions and the recordings cannot be converted to files unless the older version of the application is gone.

    Okay Frank well please by all means let me know how it works because I think Mavericks has an issue with it now.
    I spent time with the support staff of the company that made this app, and the app that is locked is an older version that they no longer offer (they now have a newer version that I have no problem downloading and deleting). For some unknown reason, the OS has locked this older app version up and won't let anyone in. According to the company's notes, it is a "known issue with Mavericks."
    I am going to continue to try the terminal command suggestions offered by baltwo. I would appreciate it if you don't have an answer, to not bothering to answer or just refer me to someone who has some knowledge to help.

  • Can't hear any of the recordings in any of the tracks

    I have tried everything. I have logged out of garageband, but clearly that's not the problem. I can hear the murmurs, a very small and low sound from the recordings of the voices and I have all the volume up, so i don't know what the problem is. HELP. None of the tracks work. NONE. I can't change the effects of the track or anything!!

    Do the tracks display as locked? The little green padlock in the track head? Then try to unlock them by clicking the padlock.

    That makes it hard for us to suggest anything - assuming you have checked the obvious places: The "Volume" automation curves of the tracks and the Master Track, the effects added to the Master Track in the "Edit" tab of the "Info" pane, all volume sliders.
    If the tracks are not locked, but still cannot be edited, I'd try the "oddball probs" fix: remove the preferences and repair permissions. See the FAQ:

    The user library is hidden in Mt. Lion Mac OS X 10.8.3.  To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu.
    Click somewhere on your empty Desktop to bring the Finder forward, then you'll see "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar.
    Then hold down the options key ⌥ until "library" appears in the drop down menu. Click Library to open.  Remove the file
    your Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist.

  • Previous recordings and live rewind intermittently...

    Had a problem recentlly with my youview box, a DTRT1000.
    Did a maintenance mode reset after it got stuck on 'nearly there', its been suggested that problem can be caused by a hard drive problem.
    Since that reset I have been having intermittent problems where by the recordings are still listed but can not be accessed, playback fails. When this happens the live rewind feature is also unavailable, using previous experience of set top boxes both problems sound like a hard drive issue.
    I have tried talkng to an online agent and get the same rubbish about the maintenance mode fix each time. Its beginning to grate, so I thought I'd post in here.
    Has anybody else had problems like this?
    Obviously I cant just remove the hard drive and replace it with a spare I have lying about as it will void the warranty but at the same time because its an intermittent fault its going to be hard to demonstrate. What are the options open to me?
    edit : Forgot to add its beginning to lock up more than it ever has, too.

    Just to add to this, the freezing is occuring at least once a day. Its becoming rather annoying now, the only way to get it responding again is to cycle the power.
    BT email correspondence is also rubbish, as is the live chat.

    since upgrading to Mac OSX Yosemite (I have creative cloud account and latest audition cc 2014), if the screen locks from inattention, recording stops. Levels still show but I have to hit record again so I'm loosing recordings if I don't keep the screen active.
    Anyone experience this?

    It may have happened after Yosemite. I can't be 100% sure but I would guess that is right, never happened from 2010-summer of 2014 so yea. It stops recording when:
    2. When OS X requires a password to return to your desktop/applications (System Prefs > Security & Privacy > General > Require password...)
    3. When the display itself goes into sleep mode (System Prefs > Energy Saver > Computer Sleep and Display Sleep)
    OR
    When you switch app to say Chrome. After a few minutes, if you jump back to Audition, its not recording, you have to hit record again but you may have lost x amount of minutes unknowingly. So it doesn't have to be just when the display sleeps or screen password appears.

  • Locked Folder on my Time Capsule

    When I originally purchased my time capsule, I had a ton of music and videos. They were all on a different external hard drive and I created them all from ripping various cds. I transferred them all to the time capsule manually. Then I copied them from capsule to my new MacBook Pro and set that directory as my library for iTunes. I have since cleaned up my iTunes directory (removing the files that wouldn't play, were partial, poor recordings, etc) and now I want to remove ALL the music from the time capsule, so I can copy my music from the MacBook Pro to the capsule. However, when I attempt to delete the music from the Time Capsule, I am getting a message that this cannot be completed because the folder is locked. When I attempt to Unlock the folder using the Get Info dialog, the check box will uncheck temporarily and then turn itself back on. Any ideas how I can do this?

  • ISight Making Clicking Noise and Locking Up Computer

    I have an iSight that worked perfectly for about a month. Recently it seems to work well when I first start iChat, but after only a few minutes the image locks and the camera starts making a clicking noise. The green light goes on and off. Sometimes the image will start again, and sometimes it does not. It also often seems to lock the entire application (either Skype or iChat). I have to completely turn off the computer and re-start. Also, I can't turn on the computer with my iSight plugged in. I have tried both fire-wire ports, don't have any other devices connected by firewire. I do have a wireless router I put in place, but can't remember if any of the problems seemed to start when I put this in or not. Any suggestions are appreciated. I bought the camera on eBay, but it came still wrapped in plastic with all original packaging. It appeared to be brand new. Thanks for any thoughts!!!

    Your M8817LL/C iSight is at least a couple of years newer than my iSight. My old "Rev A" has never failed in daily use, and it is still working fine. Click here if you want more info about model visions.
    Yes, other cameras will work. For instance, I used my Firewire-equipped DV camcorder for my first couple of months of "iChatting." If you have a camcorder with a Firewire cable, disconnect all other Firewire devices, plug the camcorder in, and try it with iSight. My camcorder was not nearly so handy as my iSight, and I was nervous about dropping the camcorder or using it up video chatting instead of making video recordings, but it worked fine, and the image quality was great.
    Because you are using OS X 10.4.10, the new "UVC" webcams will work without additional driver software (for compatible applications.) Note that applications like iMovie that require Firewire DV input signals from external cameras will NOT work with these UVC cams. Check the System Requirements of each software application you will use for compatibility info. If you plan to use your webcam with iMovie or other Firewire-only apps, you may want to get your iSight repaired (if it can be) or buy one of the available alternative Firewire cams. If you really want a UVC cam instead, you could record your movie/video clips using some compatible application that can make movie or video clips and then import the clips into your iMovie project for processing.
    You ask for "thoughts."
    (1) When shopping, remember that significantly cheaper cameras likely have fewer features than iSight. Many do not auto focus. Some do not automatically adjust lighting. Some do not have microphones, so, depending upon which Mac you use, you may need to buy a separate mic. Check carefully for features that are important to you.
    (2) Some very low-priced cams may give lower quality images. See John Kennedy's "Cameras and Image Quality", the Sat - October 30, 2004, blog for a comparison. Although new external iSights are no longer available from Apple, the image quality of external iSight shown in the comparison should be representative of current high-quality web cams.
    (3) Any but the lowest-cost webcams should give an adequate quality image, but remember that your husband will be the one looking at the image from the camera you buy. If your Mac is portable, the best way to determine which cameras offer an image "good enough" for your needs is to take your Mac along when you shop. Ask the retailer to demonstrate the camera on your computer with the software application you will use. The preview function of your software will let you judge the quality the actual image from a particular camera as well as demonstrate to you that the camera model is compatible with your software. If you use a desktop Mac, ask the retailer to demonstrate the camera on one of his Macs with the same Mac OS and software applications that you plan to use.

  • YouView DTRT1000 box keeps locking up - advice ple...

    Hi,
    We've had a BT DTRT1000 YouView box for over a year now. In that time i can only recollect one maybe two occasions when it has locked up and needed to be powered off.  We have BT infitinity2 and a good strong TV signal which probably helps.
    In the last 3 days however something has changed.  It has locked up about 10 times becoming unresponsive to the remote or the front panel buttons.  The only option was resetting with the power switch on the rear of the box. Infact it just got stuck on the startup on the 'nearly ready' screen with the blue progress dots still moving.
    I did a check for new s/w and it says I'm up to date.  So I rang BT support yesterday and was told that I needed a s/w update and to do that I needed to do a full reset and will lose all my recordings.  I pointed out that it says I have the latest s/w but he said that wasn't really correct and only a full reset will get me the lastest software.
    I also asked if I could back soem of them up but was told that was not possible.
    I haven't done the reset becasue I'd quite like to not lose all my recordings.  Have I been given good information or does anyone have any better suggestions/advice?

    Yes the box does have a trouble with hang ups compare to all my other boxes I have like humax freesat hd ,humax freeview hd 1 tb, cable boxes 3 types that recorded plus two tivo 1 tb boxes.
    My box freeze about once a month from getting the box last August and I have done a reset twice and need to power off and then hold on for some time for the data for the freeview epg to load then mix with the bt epg before you can check that all channels are there and working. The box does not like not being on for two days or more. The box does not like being rushed with operating systems like looking at the full channel guide then going to channel fully then change to players and looking through the listing it will freeze or go slower than before in operation.
    Its a bugy box of tricks but so were most others a sometime until software is right....

    First of all thanks to all for the help, and CJLittle...LMAO !  My car is a Scooby and a nice blue paint job !  Believe it or not they assured me all this would work.. I bought it in one package and even questioned it.  Also to be fair up until then they had always been very good... shows they have no zero about 3200XP 200 fsbetc...  When I went back with the power supply and told them they changed it out and let me off on the extra money it should have been.
    The crashes are as follows :-

    Locks up after random amounts of time in games, sometimes dont even get to load it up at all, other times I can play 2 hours.  When the games lock up usually there is a high pitch squeal and can only get out of it by reset or power off.
    I cannot install Zone Alarm Pro or Agnitum Outpost are 2 anyway (there are others) these just come up with the installer screen and hangs there, I have to go to Task Manager to close them down, unlike the lock up in games.
    The cooler is the Coolermaster Jet... and the temperature is more than acceptable (right now is 44 C) so I cannot see that at all being a factor.
    leds are on on the d bracket when it locks, I did not know of this function and will check it out. Thanks for that tip.[/list=1]
    Question from me: would the 2700 RAM cause these lockups ?  I would have thought it would just not work at all ?  If this is possible then I will go and change out the RAM as tuning it down to 166 (if it is possible) does not appeal to me !  But yes it may show what the problem is.

  • Bit locker Mutliple Drives Mutliple OS's

    I have a laptop with two hard drive in it.  The primary has Windows 7 Enterprise and is a member of the corporate domain.  The secondary has Server 2008 R2 and is a member of the lab domain.  There is no trust or association between domain. 
    The laptop does the Windows multi-boot off the primary drive.  I want to enable bit locker to secure the drives.
    If the two windows environments were exclusively separate, setting up bit locker on each drive independently would be pretty straight forward, but when I'm in one OS, I will frequently need to get files and data from the other drive (and no, making each
    drive big enough to hold all it's own data is not an option, plus the synchronization headache).  Both drives will need to be bit locked to their respective OS, but the other drive will need to be accessible.
    And not to make things too easy, the secondary drive, which i put in an optical drive bay carrier, routinely gets pulled (not while the system is running, of course) out and popped into a USB case to be used as a library transfer drive. 
    So....
    the Windows 7 drive needs to be natively bit locked.  and be accessible when running Windows 2008 from the second drive.
    the Windows 2008 R2 drive needs to be natively bit locked, and be accessible when running Windows 7 from the first drive, and be accessible when run as a stand-alone USB drive on another system.
    I would appreciate any wisdom you can share to make this all work.  And please presume that i know next to nothing about installing and running bit locker, because that's pretty much true.
    Let me know if you need more information about my configuration.

    Firstly, if you enable bitlocker for one drive, it will be encrypted always until you decrypt it. Thus after you insert it to any system, it need to enter the credential to access it.
    And then, if you want to access one drive in another computer, you need to get the shared permission. After you' re granted the sufficient permission, you could access it no matter if it's encrypted. Of course, another computer must be started.
