Lock-Ups and Restarts with Geforce4 Ti4400
Hi,
I've been having this problem for quite a while now during 3d games.
My setup is:
Gigabyte GA7VRXP
AMD Athlon 2000+
MSI Geforce4 Ti4400
I guess the rest is irrelevant.
Please help, Thanks,
Eyal Ben David
PSU=Power Supply unit
Who made it?
On it there should be a label with some numbers. on that label there should be the correct numbers for the 3.3V line and the 5V line(celarly stated on the label). There should also be a combined power statement on that very same label. The 3.3V and the 5V are measured in amps.

K7t Turbo2 lock ups and restarts
I'm new to MSI boards and this is my first , the problem I am having is when I go to install a game (Diablo2,1503 ad and any other I have) it barely starts to install and locks up or goes blank or restarts the system. I have changed everything the only constant is the motherboard. This is the second I have tried of this board with the exact same problem. Has anyone else had these problems if so did you find a fix? Please let me know, Thank You.
The BIOS version is 3.5 , the via drivers I managed to get in that I know went in are 4.43.They came on the CD with the board. When i try 4.49 it locks up, I found newer drivers for the AC97 onboard sound and it locked up. I have 98 first edition and ME. I have a copy of XP but Microsoft will not give me a new activation number so that was money out the door as I had it for 3 days then my old hard drive crashed. The hardware I bought with the copy is still in this computer which means I have not broke the end users agreement like they say I have. When I get this totally taken care of i will reinstall XP but not before as i dont want to go thru all that with them again. The hard drive is new, the memory is new, the processor is new, the cd-rom is new, the CPU fan is new, the only thing old is the cd-rw and sound card. There are 2 reasons I chose this board 1 had alot of PC133 laying around and 2 read it was a great board and is cheap which is good as I am unemployed right now. I got 1 for me and 2 for 2 other people. My first board didn't start right away, it started just after when my hard drive crashed, bought a new drive and set it up and it wouldn't let me install, thought ok it a cheaper Maxtor Fireball3 it kinda real loud to me so I got a Diamondmax to replace the Fireball cos I thought it might be bad. Installed clean and it still did it. So I ordered in a new processor and another board from same place I had gotten the last 3. The new processor is bad it supposed to be a 1.33Athlon board reads it as a 1.0 and locks up before windows loads up. Tried it in 3 computers and it did same thing. All 3 computers had different brands of boards so it has to be the processor. Installed the new board and reformatted and installed everything clean and the problem was exactly the same and then one of the people call me with same problem I am having and they have a PCI modem in theirs and is running onboard sound. Sounds like to me something is wrong with the PCI bus or something cos it acts up when there is a card in the PCI slots. I will probably run it like it is then get me a KT6 Delta board only prob is I will have to eat the cost of at least one more plus the memory to replace the other persons also.

Constant freezing, lock-ups and beachballs with new MBP - out of patience
Posting here as my guess is this is Leopard related. I have beachballs all day everyday. Nearly every program. Yes, yes I have repaired permissions many, many times. Yes I have booted to the instal DVD and done a repair disk.
My machine is freezing constantly - to the point where computing is no longer enjoyable - it's work. I have 1/10 the problems with Windows XP on my (work-provided) Thinkpad.
Is this OS still unstable - or is it time to look elsewhere. I just bought this supposedly "top flight" MBP. Up til now this has been a huge, huge disappointment. I don't even know where to turn to now.Hi mate
I had the same Problem with my Macbook Pro as you have at the moment. I drove me crazy!
But I guess, I found the solution for me! Hope I cant help others too.
After the Freeze, I found out in the console that my mdnsresponder Service had a problem. It's a Service necessary for Bonjour.
Since I disable it, I had not even one single crash/freeze anymore.
So its worth a try for sure.
Just follow the instructions:
Load up Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal.app) and type the following.
sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
To turn it back on, just do the opposite:
sudo launchctl load -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist
That's it. Hope I can solve your Problems too.
And please APPLE fix this bug ASAP! -
HP Pavilion Elite e91804 experiencing lock-ups and crashing after LWSEP
1. Product name and number: HP Pavilion Elite e91804
2. Operating system: Windows 7 64 bit
3. No error message (other than blue screen)
4. My most recent change was sending my computer in for the Limited Warranty Service Enhancement Program, and receiving a new motherboard.
Before I sent my computer in for the LWSEP I was experiencing lock-ups and crashes only when I was multi-tasking (playing video games, listening to music, and having tabs open in firefox).
So I sent my computer in for the LWSEP to receive a new motherboard to fix these crashes, however after receiving my computer from them, the lock-ups and crashing have not been fixed and, in fact, have gotten worse. My computer will now lock-up and crash whenever I attempt to stream anything, be that music, video, etc. I can still occasionally play video games, assuming that I am doing nothing else, and that my computer cooperates with me (not locking up), but this only happens about 1/3 of the time.
My main confusion is that sending my computer in was supposed to fix my problem, not make it worse. Any help would be greatly appreciated.1. Product name and number: HP Pavilion Elite e91804

Troubleshooting help needed: My iMac keeps crashing and restarting with a notice: "Spinlock application timed out" What can I do?
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports. -

I put my husband's apple id in when I started to set up icloud in error. I realized I needed to change this right away and tried to sign out and restart with my own apple id, but it won't let me sign out in the middle of setting up. It says something about if I don't sync documents, all documents will be deleted from this computer, but I don't want to download all his work documents. Is there any way for me to start over and fix this?
Having signed out as suggested above, go to http://appleid.apple.com and create a new Apple ID if you don't already have one. You will need a working email address which is different from that in the ID already in use.
The set up your Mac/device(s) as indicated here:

How to get slideshow to Pause and restart with auto play enabled? Happening in all slideshow do not restart once one photo is selected
I agree cwclark, I was going to ask the exact same thing, and yes, the only way to 'restart' the auto play is to reload the page which is frustrating to say the least. Every other site I've seen with this kind of 'auto-play' slide show still auto-plays even after clicking the 'next' or 'previous' buttons. Adobe, you need to get a fix for this ASAP

Unable to move print to preview pane for printing in Lightroom 4.Tried deleting agprefs file and restart with no success! Thanks in advance.
Sorry to bump this - but does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Whats up with the system lockups just frustrated as to why. I could be checking mail, surfing the web or using PS Elements 9. Makes no difference what I am doing it occationaly locks up and requires a cold boot (windows talk).
I don't think so, Lion with the latest updates is running fine for most of us.
Post the log for your next lockup or the previous one if you can isolate the timeframe.

Lock-Ups and Freezes PLEASE HELP
Hello everyone..
I come here to see if anyone can help me... Ive done it all and nothing is working.
I just recently started having problems with my computer, im not sure why this happend but ill try to explain everything as best as I can.
The problem started a few days ago while I was playing SWG's. I was playing and all of a sudden my machine froze, the screen locked-up and then after about 2 min the entire system restarted. I then logged back into my windows and after a while a system froze and restarted yet again. I though it was a SWGs issue but then the computer would freeze while browsing the net and doing other tasks.
I have formated my machine, re-installed my drivers, and re-installed the hardward. Nothing has worked.

Hope this helps, i dont understand what it means so maybe one of you might...
Please help me on this... Ive tried everything i can...
Thanks in advanceIf what you are saying, and I am reading correctly:
The machine and game was working just peachy and all of a sudden the problem manifested itself?
Did you do ANYTHING to change your system prior to this happening to possibly have an effect?
the fast that you said you have re-loaded the OS and removed and re-installed the hardware with the same result tells me that there may be some sort of hardware failure and this could get difficult to troubleshoot.
First things first, try a memory testing software like memtest86 to see if you get any errors.

Multiple Panics, Lock Ups and Freezes
My MacBook Pro running 10.8.3 has been having some random shut downs and lock ups lately, the latest of which took the internal boot drive totally offline. I was able to recover it after booting to my external recovery drive and running DiskWarrior 4 as Disk Utility simply said I needed to repair the drive before mounting it, but then said it was unrepairable after attempting to do so.
After the DiskWarrior repair, the Mac booted from it's internal drive like there was nothing wrong, but an hour or so later, I had another lock up where everything froze up and was unresponsive and then after a restart I got another hour or so before it shut itself down and then restarted itself, so I'm obviously less than thrilled with the situation.
This is the factory drive which came with the MacBook Pro when purchased new in January of this year, so I have a hard time believing the drive is physically bad, though I guess anything is possible. Another thing that has me thinking it's not the hardware is that the machine runs fine when booted to the external recovery drive and has no errors or any of the symptoms I've been experiencing.
Anyway, I've been looking at the panic reports, but I'm honestly not well versed in what any of this means, so I'm hoping one of the experts can chime in and maybe point me in the right direction as I'm running out of ideas :/

This comment applies to malicious software ("malware") that's installed unwittingly by the victim of a network attack. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the victim's computer. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it. If you have reason to suspect that you're the target of such an attack, you need expert help.
OS X now implements three layers of built-in protection specifically against malware, not counting runtime protections such as execute disable, sandboxing, system library randomization, and address space layout randomization that may also guard against other kinds of exploits.
2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user, but internally Apple calls it "XProtect." The malware recognition database is automatically checked for updates once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets.
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been a second layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't necessarily been tested by Apple, but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. That may not mean much if the developer lives in a country with a weak legal system (see below.)
Gatekeeper doesn't depend on a database of known malware. It has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could find some other way to bypass Apple's oversight, or the oversight could fail in a particular case due to human error.
For most purposes, applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed, including App Store products, can be considered safe. Note, however, that at least one trojan for iOS (not for OS X) was briefly distributed by a developer in Russia through the iTunes App Store. That store is under the same oversight by Apple as the Mac App Store, so the protection shouldn't be considered absolute. App Store products may prompt for access to private data, such as your contacts. Think before granting that access. OS X security is based on user input. Never click anything reflexively.
4. Starting with OS X 10.8.3, a third layer of protection has been added: a "Malware Removal Tool" (MRT). MRT runs automatically in the background when you update the OS. It checks for, and removes, malware that may have evaded the other protections via a Java exploit (see below.) MRT also runs when you install or update the Apple-supplied Java runtime (but not the Oracle runtime.) Like XProtect, MRT is presumably effective against known attacks, but maybe not against unknown attacks. It notifies you if it finds malware, but otherwise there's no user interface to MRT.
5. Beyond XProtect, Gatekeeper, and MRT, there’s no evidence of any benefit from other automated protection against malware. The first and best line of defense is always your own intelligence. With the possible exception of Java exploits, all known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the malware attacker. If you're smarter than he thinks you are, you'll win.
That means, in practice, that you never use software that comes from an untrustworthy source, or that does something inherently untrustworthy. How do you know what is trustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn visitors who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
Pirated copies or "cracks" of commercial software, no matter where they come from, are unsafe.
Software of any kind downloaded from a BitTorrent or from a Usenet binary newsgroup is unsafe.
Software that purports to help you do something that's illegal or that infringes copyright, such as saving streamed audio or video for reuse without permission, is unsafe. All YouTube "downloaders" are in this category, though not all are necessarily harmful.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. If it comes from any other source, it's unsafe.
Even signed applications should not be trusted if they do something unexpected, such as asking for permission to access your contacts or your location for no apparent reason.
6. Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.
Follow the above guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can practically be. The rest of this comment concerns what you should not do to protect yourself from malware.
7. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good, if they do any good at all. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use the free software ClamXav — nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial "anti-virus" products?
Their design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere.
In order to meet that nonexistent threat, the software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
By modifying the operating system, the software itself may create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
8. ClamXav doesn't have these drawbacks. That doesn't mean it's entirely safe. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
ClamXav is not needed, and should not be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful only for detecting Windows malware. Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else.
A Windows malware attachment in email is usually easy to recognize. The file name will often be targeted at people who aren't very bright; for example:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!!!!!H0TBABEZ4U!!!!!!!.AVI♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.exe
ClamXav may be able to tell you which particular virus or trojan it is, but do you care? In practice, there's seldom a reason to use ClamXav unless a network administrator requires you to run an anti-virus application.
9. The greatest harm done by security software, in my opinion, is in its effect on human behavior. It does little or nothing to protect people from emerging threats, but if they get a false sense of security from it, they may feel free to do things that expose them to higher risk. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices.
10. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default. -
Lock ups and Freezing solved on my Audig
After days of trying different stuff to resolve this problem where screen locks up and looping squealing plagued my computer, I think I have finally resolved the problem. It appears that one of the programs running in my system tray was the culprit. I shut down everything in my system tray and then tried BF2 and it finally worked and has been working consistently. I do not know yet which program was causing the problem ( I'm still working on finding which one), but I have weeded out my antivirus (AVG free), my firewall?(Zonealarm),? Musicmatch Jukebox ( which I really suspected, but does not appear to be the one) and ?my Logitech wireless mouse software. Still got to reactivate Quicktime, Corecenter ( an MSI overclocking tool) Nastromo loadout manager, Instant Messenger and a couple of others. What ever the conflict in the program that is causing the problem is directly conflicting with my Audigy 2 card. I could remove the card and the problem would go away using onboard sound. But I was very disturbed that my Audigy 2 was not working. I tried removing ram, I tried using different pci slots, and lets not count the number of times that I removed and reinstalled drivers and software. Though I well give a little credit to finding the problem to this forum. There is a post advising to go to msconfig and disabling a bunch of the start up programs while doing driver removal and reinstall. After reinstalling last driver I went ahead and ran BF2 before restarting computer ( while all programs in systray were off ) and it ran flawlessly. Then I restarted computer all my normal background software loaded up. I fired up BF2 and bam there was the same old lockup and squeal. So I just went to the system tray and shut down everything and it runs smooth as butter. Hope this helps I know from reading the forums there are alot other people having the same problem.
I would be concerned that you may have a power supply going bad. Unfortunately the only way to test this theory is to replace it. If you do replace it may sure you get one that is rated at a high enough wattage to supply your system. I use a 500 watt power supply. I have had power supplies to go bad on me in the past. Sometimes the power supplies will not go entirely out, they just stop producing as much power as they normally would. This can cause some weird things to happen in your system. I've had one go bad and it was providing enough juice to let my computer cut on, but the video card wasn't getting enough?juice to operate thus I was getting a blank screen. I would also like to know if you are overclocking. Sometimes overclocking can cause heat issues that could cause a similar problem to what you are having.

I've been having this problem off and on now for awhile. My pc will just lock up and a message comes up "A program caused this to happen" Then the pc will auto restart page. The thing about it is it's doing it more and more. There's got to be something I can do about it...
try this link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03408309&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us... most likely your pc is infected, my suggestion ...if you dont have important files on this computer you can revert it back to factory settings. Everything will be wiped out but Windows and the programs that was came with the package will be reinstalled
