Lock wireless keyboard

Is it possible to lock the wireless keyboard?
I don't want accidental keyhits activate the computer, or shut it down as the housekeeper did today.
Thanks for your help

Hi there,
If you are using sleep mode then just switch wireless keyboard off, hold power button, green light comes on, keep holding until it switches off, also saves the battery!

Isctheirca lock command that I should use to reverse an accidental lock?

It sounds like mouse keys has been turned on.  Press the option key 5 times to turn on/off.
You can also visit System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse and Trackpad tab to see if it's on.
If that's not the problem then visit the other settings in this prefpane.

  • I have a new wireless keyboard but it doesn't have the "Scroll Lock" key I need to work my printer.Any ideas please. I'm new it iMac.

I have new iMac with a wireless keyboard. It doesn't have a "Scroll lock`' key (hot key) which I need to work a shared printer controlled by a manual share switch. does anyone have any suggestions to help please?

There is a key combination that operates the scroll lock function on your keyboard, try it and see if it works:
The reason that the manual switch is mapped to the scroll lock is because it is a rarely used (sometimes never used) function, unfortunately that is exactly why it is vanishing, gone on some keyboards already.Consult the documentation for the switch, see if the function controlled currently by the scroll lock key can be remapped to another key.

  • HT1941 Bluetooth keyboard setup has locked up keyboard, it's looking for a wireless keyboard, none of the keys on the keyboard are functioning, I can get out of the screen, or shut down my Mac, ... anyone??

The bluetooth keyboard setup has locked my keyboard, none of the keys are functioning, holding down the power button does nothing, I don't know how I got into wireless keyboard setup, and I don't know how to get out. Anyone?

    Hi:
I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

  • Cap lock sticks on wireless keyboard

    Hi all.
New to the forum, please pardon if this topic has been covered, although I could not find any related threads.
I have a new style flat panel imac with the wireless keyboard and mighty mouse. If I leave the computer on for a length of time (say a half hour or more) with no activity the cap lock goes on by itself and will not go off, I have to shut down and restart the computer. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem? Any solutions to fix it? I would just buy another keyboard if that's the issue, but I would hate to plug in a replacement only to have the same thing happening.

    Hi again all.
Well, I haven't had much response to my original post, I have just been shutting down the computer every 30 min or so as the problem happens. I went ahead and replaced my wireless keyboard hoping that would fix the problem, but if anything it's gotten worse since the new keyboard has come in the house. There doesn't seem to be an inactivity period now, the caps just lock intermittently by themselves for no apparent reason. The light does not go on on the keyboard, the caps just activate with no stimulus, as far as I can determine.
I do have a wacom tablet with a mouse and stylus pen, I have disconnected them both for the time being in case I am having a conflict issue (do macs HAVE conflict issues?? Am a former PC user, so that terminology at least makes sense to me...) As you can imagine, this is a major PITA for me, and would love to figure out a way to make it stop happening. Any suggestions at all? Anyone??? I have a good friend that works at an apple authorized retailer in my home town, and he has never heard of this particular problem either. All suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

  • When I type a message on my wireless keyboard, in a chat room, when I hit enter to send it, it does not go...any ideas or help. I am wondering if somehow I have locked it, but not sure if I did...how to unlock it

When I type a message in a chat room, on my wireless keyboard, hit enter to post it, nothing happens. I am not sure if somehow I have inadvertently locked the keyboard...and if I did...how do I unlock it!!

I don't think you can lock your keyboard, but then again, I've been known to be wrong
see if your wireless keyboard has become unpaired (I'm assuming here, that it's bluetooth).
Make sure that the keyboard's batteries are okay, and that the power switch (if the keyboard has on) has been turned on, then go into Bluetooth preferences, and make sure your keyboard is discoverable, pairable and a favorite, and that Bluetooth is turned on. Re-pair the device with your iMac and it should respond. If not, you may have to delete it from the Bluetooth, add it again, and re-pair it, if that makes any sense to you. Sounds like you may also have some lag in replying in your chat room, maybe the chat program you are using might have a preference or two??

  • Wireless keyboard caps lock issue (not LED related)

i just bought an iMac last week and I'm having a weird issue with caps locks. It seems like that particular key needs to be pressed harder than the rest of the keys to register a keystroke. If I hit it lightly, the key will depress but the keystroke won't register and the LED light won't come on. Any other key, even if I hit it very lightly, as long as it was pressed down, the keystroke is registered,
I found the right amount of force where I can press it down like 10 times and it won't register the keystrokes at all. When I'm typing fast, I'll have to go back to capitalize almost 80% of the letter that need capitalizing even though I hit the caps lock key while I was typing. All the "I"s, the first letters of every sentence and the first letters of proper names.
I've had plenty of keyboards, some wireless and I've never had this issue, nor have I had it on my Macbook. I'm just wondering if this is how it was designed to work or if I have a faulty keyboard that I need to go and replace.

    Hi Guys
Glad I've just found these posts. Got a new 27" iMac just before Christmas. Greatly relieved that everything worked despite all the reports of cracked screens, etc. BUT - only small problem was the Caps Lock light not always coming on. Rang Apple and got a replacement. Now today I'm having same problems - first the light froze and wouldn't go off. Then it wouldn't come on. I've now tried your advice of switching off the keyboard and taking out the batteries. Works OK now. Hopefuly it'll stay that way. Only thing is - pity Apple couldn't have given me that advice. Reading these posts, there is clearly an ongoing problem with the caps lock light on the wireless keyboard. A problem thats been around for months. Clearly Apple's poilicy, as always, is to admit nothing until it comes up with a fix. Pity that policy appears to extend to not even telling their own employees that there is a problem ...

  • Number lock on wireless keyboard

I have the compact wireless keyboard and have searched all over for a solution to turn on the numbers lock - if indeed such a thing is possible. The bootcamp documentation does not help either. It just says that for entering numbers the user should use the number keys just below the Function keys.
This means I have to hold down the shift key on my kb to enter numbers which is quite inconvenient for fast work within say, a spreadsheet.
I would be grateful for any help in this regard.
    Many thanks

The recent versions of Mac OS X combined with current MacBook or Apple Wireless Keyboards do not support NumLock function.
There is a 3rd party freeware app called NumLock that is meant to restore this functionality for OS X 10.7 and later.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Wireless keyboard caps lock is inside out.

I have a wireless keyboard working with Mac Air.   The caps lock key is randomly on caps with the light on  -  or off with the light on.  I've checked that the Caps Lock key on the mac air keyboard is off so that the caps lock key on the remote keyboard isn't getting a different signal but that doesn't seem to make any difference.  They apparently arent' related and probably shouldn't be related.
Suggestions?   What's most curious is that its random and shifting back and forth.

Sorry...I sometimes "assume" things...dumb on my part
PRAM=Parameter Random Access Memory - reset like this:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11243
SMC=System Management Controller - reset like this:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
Neither of those resets will hurt anything, and sometimes they "fix" odd problems.

  • Wireless Keyboard Caps Lock Key

I recently got the new iMac with a wireless keyboard. A few days after starting to use it, the caps lock key light went on and stayed on, even though caps lock isn't activated. Caps lock will activate when I hit the key and de-activate when I hit it again, but the green light stays on. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

As I mentioned in my first post, the keyboard worked fine when I brought it into my local Mac store; the problem was not experienced when the clerk connected to one of their display iMacs. The keyboard is under warrenty but it does not make sense to get a new one if the problem is not with the keyboard; I have not, however, tested another wireless keyboard with my computer.
    Any other thoughts?

  • Wireless keyboard, no working caps lock

I just became the proud owner of an iMac. I still need to get used to some things, but the wireless keyboard doesn't give me numerals when caps lock is switched on (the light comes on). I can use numbers by holding down the (single) shift button and capitals are no problem either. It just doesn't seem to work with the numbers... Can someone help me please?

    Hello Barry,
The numbers on my alu keyboard don't work when I press caps lock (the little green light comes on, but I can only type capital letters.) So for typing numbers I need to keep the shift button pressed down. I called the helpdesk and they suggested I buy a separate keypad! because this is completely... normal!... I guess I still need to get used to my new computer.

  • Apple wireless keyboard caps lock light wont turn off

I have an apple wireless keyboard that came with my 2011 imac and up untill last month the caps lock light wont turn off even when i turn caps lock off and its draining my battery. usually the keyboard will turn off whenever the computer was off but now i have to turn the whole keyboard off everytime im not using it to save battery.

It is probably faulty.  If you are close to one, I suggest you take it to an Apple store for diagnosis.
