I found a 5th gen 8GB ipod with the top missing. it is locked and I have tried everything to unlock it. ANY IDEAS????

Call Apple Customer Relations - 1-800-767-2775. They will check to see who the registered owner is if the iPod Nano was ever registered and then contact same. If the original owner does not contact you in 30 days......... Post back.

Thanks you for replying planb77! My husband got home and told me to just disconnect the ipod. It had been at least 12 hours by then, The music was in my library but not on my ipod, He had me shut down, unplug my computer, take a rest from it and restart. I reset my ipod following instructions on the itunes site. I tried syncing again and was successful syncing both ipods. I really think it was great of you to take the time to help someone else.

5th generation nano not charging

I have got a 5th generation nano. It is not charging, but is is showing up in the itunes, it syncs, and it plays when it is connected to the computer. Once I disconnect the ipod from the computer ir only shows a black display. I have tried the 5R's.
Please help.

Does the iPod's battery icon indicate that it is charging when you have it plugged into your Mac or a wall adapter? This could just be an indication that your iPod's battery is shot and can no longer hold any sort of charge.

CAN I PUT AN AUDIO BOOK ON THE 5TH GENERATION NANO?

Yes. You can configure audiobooks that are stored in your iTunes library under Books to sync to your iPod Nano. You can do this from under the Nano's Books configuration tab in iTunes.
To access this configuration tab, plug in your iPod and select it from under theDevicessection in the left hand pane of iTunes to bring yourself to the iPod's Summary tab over to the right. Now locate the Books tab and select it. Here you can configure what and how audiobooks are synced to the device.
If you make any changes to this tab, make sure to hit the Apply button on in the lower right hand corner.

6th or 5th Generation Nano

I am debating between either getting a 6th generation nano or a refurnished 5th 16GB generation nano.
It certainly seems like the 6th should have been the replacement for the shuffle.
I have been reading different reviews on-line. Although you get the nice touch screen with the 6th, for more bang for your buck you get more with the 5th. I was wondering what other people's thoughts are on this, especially those who owned the 5th generation nano who now have the 6th.

i have both. 6th is obviously smaller, so if you care about that get it. there's a camera on the 5th, so if you care about that get that. i don't think the touch screen really adds anything, but it is cool.
i usually use the 6th gen when i am running. i only use the older one when the new one is broken due to it being the least water resistant piece of portable electronic equipment i have ever owned.

HT1369 my 5th generation nano appears to have frozen with the apple logo appearing continually. It will not switch off and is not recognised any more on my computer.

5th generation Nano skipping songs.

I bought a 5th generation iPod nano off eBay after my 3rd generation Nano started skipping songs. My new iPod is now skipping the same songs, but the songs play fine on my computer. I have tried rebooting, restarting and converting some to AAC but not to any effect. Can anyone help me?

No same problem here can't get apple to help since it costs 30 bucks to talk to someone.

You can't "recalculate" that run, but you can recalibrate for future runs.
At the end of a run, when you know the actual distance, you can calibrate from that run. The choice should be available after you complete the run. This article at Nike+ has details

5th Generation Nano stopped working..

My iPod, 5th Gen Nano will only work when either plugged into the wall or the computer, but as soon as it is unplugged, it won't work as if it is dead. Plus I have attempted to restore the product, several times, but nothing comes in return.

There is a good chance your iPod's battery is shot and is in need of replacement. You can choose to have Apple replace it (for quite the price), have a third party repair company do it for much less, or you can actually replace it yourself if you feel up to it.
There really isn't much else you can do in terms of troubleshooting this one.
