Locked disk or no write permissions

After updating my mac (OS 10.7.4) to iTunes 10.6.3, I get the dreaded "The folder "iTunes" is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions of this folder.".  I have numerous times unlocked the disk and repaired permissions, restarted, reinstalled, etc., but  to no avail...  When I try to search Support files here I get shunted to a Windows discussion and have found no help.   What can I do?

I looked at every search result Google listed for this problem. Nothing worked. So, I downloaded this Zip file from the following forum and it worked in a few clicks of the mouse. Don't waste your time with this and other forums.

  • ITunes is on a locked disk or no write permissions.

I need serious help. I've tried just about everything I've read online.
When I try to run iTunes, it claims that iTunes is on a locked disk or that I don't have write permissions.  I've went into the secutiry tab and such and gave myself full control, yet it still isn't working. It also won't let me unclick the "Read Only" box. I'm on Windows 7.
Thanks so much for any help!

Hi there:  I also have Windows 7. Anyways try this:
Right click on the ITunes shortcut desktop icon.
    Choose "Properties"
**This will now open your tab for Itunes on  the Shortcut tab.  (look at the top, you'll see tabs like "Security, Details, Previous Versions" etc)
At the bottom of this page you will see 3 buttons:  "Open File Location", "Choose Icon" and "Advanced".
    Click on "Advanced"
Check the box that says "Run As Administrator".
I hope this works. It worked for me a couple minutes ago.

  • ITunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or no write permission

"iTunes Library.itl file is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file" shows up when attempting to start iTunes.
This is on Windows Vista 64bit, and I used the designated 64bit installer from Apple's website, v8.2.0.23.
There is another post in regards to a similar disk locked / not found error, but the solution noted there is only for windows XP, as it requires Tweak UI, which the article states does not work under Vista.
Does anyone know how to fix this in Vista?
    thanks

Usually when you get this problem in vista, it is to do with folder permissions.
The account you are using needs full control of the iTunes and iTunes Music folder.

  • Error: Insufficient disk space & file write permissions

when my client edits a page and the click save i get the following error:
the permissions for the includes folder are 755.
I dont have this problem on other websites however and they are setup the same way.

I am having the identical problem this week with incontext editing of a website I could edit fine last week with incontext editing but this week I cannot save changes to any page I try to edit, even though I've not made any changes to the site in the week since.
If I Edit one page and try to save the changes, I get one of two errors:
"The operation could not be performed because a problem occured while attempting to connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again."
    or
"The operation could not be performed because there is insufficient disk space or the file write permission is not granted."
I then went to the Incontext editing control panel, Manage Users, Configure Site and there I can click Test Connection and it reports it can successfully connect to the site using FTP. But when I try to Save that Configure Site (even though I've made no changes except to click Test Connection) I get two different errors each time I try...
The first error reported was the unable to connect to the server error.
"The operation could not be performed because a problem occured while attempting to connect to the server. Please check your connection and try again."
    or
"Configure Site Error. An FTP error occurred. A test file could not be copied to the specified Host Directory. Your FTP user may not have sufficient permissions to access the folder and/or its content."
I am 100% certain there is no problem on the server with insufficient disk space or file permissions, so this is an incorrect error message being reported by InContext Editing. I can connect to the site and make and save changes with Dreamweaver with the identical FTP settings. This site is on a server at GoDaddy that has plenty of disk space and I can see that all the permissions on site folders are set correctly.
At this point I have a very frustrated client who is anxious to edit web pages but cannot.

  • I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I am trying to open iTunes on my mac. But a box pops up saying "The folder iTunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder". Anyone know what that means? I've had my computer 2 years and its never had a problem opening it

I've already right-clicked on the application, clicked "get info", and changed it so all people listed in the "Sharing & Permissions" section have the "read & write" privilage.
The error message is referring to your iTunes library, not your iTunes application.
You need to check and fix the permissions of the iTunes folder in your iTunes library. This is by default located in your "Music" folder.
Select the folder Music > iTunes  in the Finder, right click on it or Ctrl Click and click "Get Info". At the bottom of the contextual window thatwill  pop up, disclose the Sharing and Permissions brick, change your status from Read only to Read & Write. You may need to click the padlock icon to make changes.

I got a problem on running the iTune 64bit on Windows 7, error message says " the folder "itunes" is on a locked disk or your do not have write permission for this folder.    Any one ran into this problem ?
    It worked before.

Open Disk Utility via Spotlight or in the Applications folder stored within the Utilities folder. Close all applications and 3rd party software and choose "Repair Disk Permissions." Reboot the computer when finished, and test to see if the issue is resolved.

  • ITunes will not open because it's on a locked disk or there are missing write permissions

After moving files back to a new hard drive from an external, a warning message comes up saying that either the folder is on a locked disk or I don't have write permissions for the folder whenever I try to open it. How do I fix this?

I have the same problem since I upgraded, I have given all the correct permission to the folders and files, but get that message. Can anyone help?

  • Can't install on windows 7 get message - the folder is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder

Have tried to install Itunes on laptop running 32 bit Windows 7 - it says it installed successfully but then when I click to open I get the message "the folder is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder."

You will have to descripe where the drive is and much more.
Then go and look at the drive and folder and who has group ownership policy and more.
It would have to be a guess, plus "20 questions" but why post here? when there are Snow Leopard, iMac, and of course, iTunes, Community forums.

  • Not able to open itunes - "The Folder I tunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder"

I have unintalled and reinstalled several times, just suddenly stopped working. I have windows 7, have for awhile. I get the following message:  The Folder I tunes is on a locked disk or you do not have write permissions for this folder"
I had an existing account that i am no longer able to access.
I got one email suggesting right click and run as program administrator, tried it and did not work. Also went into permissions folder and ensured was listed as program administrator.
    Help and Thanks in advance.

    Hi Chris,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your issue. When you say a "different server", if you mean that you recently changed the location where iTunes was storing its files (local or otherwise), you may find the following article helpful:
