Locked documents on desktop

I have 2 documents that are read only and locked by another person on my desktop. is there a way to remove them? they won't go into the trash and i can't delete them. i accidently opened them and now they are on the desktop, i know my fault but there must be a way!!!
thanks

Select them in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and clear the Locked checkbox. If needed, unlock the padlock in Sharing & Permissions, add yourself to the list, and use the gear menu to make yourself the owner.

Hello, In Lion 10.7.x I cannot disable the Lock documents for 2 weeks in Time Machine! Thus it prevents to change anything else like the system preferences or other settings. All is locked. How I can disable it?

Do you mean the check box isn't enabled?
Or you remove the check but it doesn't "stick"?
Or you remove the box but documents are stil getting locked?
That setting doesn't apply to other things in System Preferences, just apps that support AutoSave and Versions.  If you're having a problem with System Prefs, please clarify exactly what.

  • Excel security for locked documents

I develop many forms and templates for clients. I just discovered that I can take a fully locked document from Excel (any version), bring it into open office and unlock it with NO PASSWORD. How is this possible? Is there anything I can do to prevent people
from accessing the locked spreadsheets? I have not checked other compatible software, but am very concerned about this, as many of my forms sales depend on the formulas developed by me which can now easily be copied by anyone who knows this.
Thanks for any insight on how to work around this.

Thanks for ur response. From security perspective, how do I enable single document viewer access?

  • "Lock document after signing" option is missing

    Hello,
I need a signature field on a PDF form I am developing to have the Lock Document After signing functionality. My coworker (who has since left the firm) designed a similar form that automatically checks this box in the Sign Document pop-up window. This is exactly what I want, but I can't figure out how to do it. I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro (10.1.13).
What I CURRENTLY see, missing the lock document option:
What I WANT to see, taken from another PDF form:
Thanks in advance for any help

    Thanks for the reply isakten.
I am the author of the document for the 1st screenshot. I am trying to replicate what my former co-worker did in the 2nd screenshot (which is a completely separate document). My boss likes the "lock document" feature and wants each form locked when it is signed.
I've heard about seed values, but i don't know anything about them specifically. The properties of the digital signature field are the same in the two documents, there is no script in either one, yet the difference remains. Do you have any resources  I could read about for modifying seed values to mandate the lock document option?

  • Locked documents in Pages

I opened several old Pages documents tonight in Lion.  I was surprised to see that the title bar indicated that the document(s) were locked.  Clicking on the word Locked I found I could unlock them.  The documents were saved in Dropbox.  I'm puzzled why they were marked locked.  I don't recall locking them.  Is this some sort of new default?
Why would the system lock files without my request for it to do so?
Overall, I like the idea of locking documents so avoid accidentally modifying files I didn't intend to modify.  Is this a feature of Versions?  If so, what are the things I should know about this feature.  One of my major issues with Apple software is the lack of any overview of new features to make it easy to adopt the new version of the software and stay out of trouble with the changes.  They should have people with a customer view of the world be writing things to explain the features of a product, the things to watch for, and maintain a FAQ as questions arise and get answered.

There are lots of tutorials online, you can always use Google to look for one. For example if you need a Pages Tutorial just Google "Pages Tutorial" and will find links directly to them. For example:
    http://www.apple.com/iwork/tutorials/#pages-hero
was the top hit when I typed in Pages Tutorial.
Also if you aren't comfortable with Lion and can't figure out something, once again Google it or go to a book store and get a OS X Lion book to use as refrence material.
To lock or unlock a file is fairly simple once you know where to look which I can understand wasn't super intuitive, however again if you'd Google it you would have found it in seconds. Look at the example below for where to lock or unlock a document:
Things aren't tough to figure out if you get stumped, just Google it and you can usually find some solution.

  • Finder restarts after trying to open the documents or desktop tab

    Hello!
I've got a MBA 13, 128Gb mid 11 with Lion on it. That's my first Mac so I'm new to it. The problem is in Finder. There are a few tabs in a left side it (My files, AirDrop and others). But I can't open Documents or Desktop tabs. If I try to do it, Finder restarts. Anyone's got any idea about it?
    Thank you!

    Go to ~/Library/Prefereces
Move these files to the Trash.
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Then restart your Mac.
~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.
For Lion:   To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

  • Performing operations on an open ("locked") document [JS] [CS5]

    Hello!
We use JavaScript InDesign scripts, run on InDesign CS5 server, to create PDF proofs and JPEG previews of documents.
We are running into problems with doing these tasks if the document is open or an operation is already being performed - because the file is "locked".
After some searching, I found the enumeration, "OpenOptions.openCopy" option.  Using that option in code allows us to perform operations on a "locked" document.
    http://www.indiscripts.com/blog/public/data/so-what-s-new-in-indesign-cs5-scripting-dom/en _ID-CS5-DOM-WhatsNewEnum.pdf
    CODE:
         var myDoc = app.open("C:/InDesign/2100125319.indd", OpenOptions.openCopy);
    My questions are:
    1. When we use the "OpenOptions.openCopy" to open a copy of the document, does it open it in memory or create a new file?
    2. Is there a downside to opening the document this way and/or a better way to do it?
    Thanks in advance!
    Jeff

I do understand you're trying to be helpful. I was just hoping providing the relevant code snippets would be sufficient so I didn't have to take the time to provide a "cleaned" version of the files and upload those to a public-safe location.
Zabeth69 wrote: If you don't understand what 'code at the bottom of the page' means, you have not used one of those systems. I don't know what causes the error code to come up (besides removing a Spry widget, I mean). So if it doesn't apply to you, ignore it.
This is exactly my point: I haven't used any of the DW "systems". I've always manually coded in DW, so I can't have removed a Spry widget in the first place. It wasn't until I installed the Widget using the Widget Browser that I started getting the error (I don't mean adding the datepicker widget to the code using the DW Insert menu - I mean installing the Widget into DW itself). Ignoring such an erroneous/incorrect error seems kind of silly, since every time I open the file I get the error message.
Anyway, as requested, the following are links to the contactUsCleaned.php page, and the php included headerCleaned.php file. Since these use php includes to complete the rendered HTML, they won't look right in the browser, but as you know viewing the source will show the relevant html, javascript, and jquery code. I didn't see any way to upload the files in this forum, which, due to the php code, would be preferable to see exactly what my code looks like...
    http://www.eventidewebdesign.com/public/contactUsCleaned.php
    http://www.eventidewebdesign.com/public/headerCleaned.php
The footer.php file the contactUs page includes is simply a set of HTML links to the pages on the site, copyright info, and the Google Analytics script. There is no other code in the footer.php file.

  • Enable "Lock Document after Signing" by Default

My boss likes the "Lock Document after Signing" option in Acrobat X and plans to use it every time he signs a document. So, is there a way to keep that box checked by default? I did not see it anywhere in preferences, is there a registry key I could set?

There is not a preference for this. It is possible to use seed values for digital signature fields, making it possible to create a custom menu item or toolbar button that adds a digital signature field to a page with the seeds values that would cause the document to be locked when signed. For a bit more information, see: http://livedocs.adobe.com/acrobat_sdk/9.1/Acrobat9_1_HTMLHelp/JS_API_AcroJS.88.757.html

  • Attaching documents from desktop to FIORI

    Hi everyone,
Is it possible to add documents from desktop/tablet to FIORI apps? If yes, it leads to further questions:
    a. how can this be implemented/activated?
    b. is there any inherent virus control?
    c. what are the document types allowed?
    d. size limits?
    e. DMS/archiving.
We have  biz case in invoice approval. Looking forward to your f/b.
    cheers

    Hi Vlkram,
If you do not want to change the business process, I recommend Fiori Approve Requests app. Attachments are stored in workflow container.
Approvers can approve/reject/forward/comment but there is no creating attachment in the standard.
If creating attachment from approver side is mandatory, you can extend the standard app by using UI extension points. Please look at SAP Fiori - Extensibility.
Is there any business requirement for approving documents in their mobile devices? In that case, is excel attachment the best option?

  • Can't save or delete documents to desktop

I created a read only word document and then disabled read only. But the disabling the read only doens't stick. It keeps reverting back to read only. I did this because I was having trouble saving the file (don't recall why). Now I can't delete the file. Mac asks for my password which I do and it makes the dropping a file in the trash noise but the file doesn't go away.
Now I can't save files to the desk top, only to my user folder, documents and drop box.
Now when I try to save a new Word file I get the following message: can't create this file and the suggested reasons are HD full, or write protected or damaged. I can't figure out which of this issues is the problem.
When i try to resave an existing Excel file as a different file I get the following message: file name path doesn't exist, being used, or read only can't access the file HD:User:my name: desktop.

Click on the desktop, choose Get Info from the File menu, uncheck the Locked box, and give yourself Read and Write access under Sharing & Permissions.

  • I have been locked out of desktop

I can't access my desktop My daughter has played a game and clicked some thing and locked me out of my desktop all that shows is my external HDD's. When I save a scanned document or file to desktop it doesn't show and When I click on the folder in finder it says I don't have access. There is only one acc on my IMac and Im using Mavericks The desktop tab in finder has also gone from the list on the left side and when i click on my acc and try to open Desktop from that list is says i don't have permission to open this folder.  I am loggged in as Admin, also my screen capture wont save file because i don't have permission to the place that they are saved to so I can't upload screenshots to show here

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Unable to edit SharePoint document in desktop applications

A number of our users are reporting issues when trying to edit Excel or Word documents that are stored on SharePoint via their Desktop applications. The error is as follows
Error 1: "Sorry, we couldn't open [file location here]"
    Followed by:
Error 2: "Microsoft Excel cannot access the file [file location here] There are seveal possible reasons:"
We are running Windows 8 and I have tried resetting IE settings back to default and removing all Windows Credentials (well, only those relevant to Office). If I remove the credentials I get asked to sign back in, which I do.
Any ideas what else we can try?

PLease try with office 32 bit version. 64bit sometime create issue.

  • Editing icloud pages document on desktop, edits not showing up on icloud

I have a pages document on my icloud called "ABC123"
    I am on my mac
I go to FINDER > iCLOUD > PAGES FOLDER
in the pages folder I see the document "ABC123"
    I click ABC123
It opens in pages on my desktop (not in browser)
I make an edit and type: "***?"
    I click save.
When I open ABC123 in the browser-version of pages, my "***?" edit is not there.
Why are my edits not syncing with the icloud version even though I opened it through my icloud folder? Everything is updated (software and pages and icloud acct).... can we just not use the desktop version to edit icloud documents?
    In other words:
I ask because I'd like to collaborate with others, but I would like to use my desktop version. They can use the browser to edit. but.... my desktop edits aren't saving to the collaborative online version of ABC123

    Hello anonAnthony,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Yes, Pages and iCloud Drive can be used in the way you're describing. It sounds like you're seeing some unexpected behavior with this feature.
For troubleshooting, start with the tips in the "Documents on iCloud.com are not updated when changes are made on my iOS device or Mac" section of this article:
iCloud: Troubleshooting Documents in the Cloud - Apple Support
You may also want to close and re-open Pages and Safari, and test again.
If the steps above don't solve it, the article I mentioned recommends contacting iCloud Support for more help:
If you still need help, contact iCloud Support.
