Locked down security and running captivate clips
I am relatively new to Captivate. And in trying to publish I
have run accross a roadblock. We have locked down security so much
that most of my audience cannot open the files. When trying to
Publish as an SWF they are seeing Active X messages and then when
they agree, the window stays blank or they get a message that
windows blocked the software because it can’t determine the
publisher. If they try to run it as an executable they do not have
rights either. Can you give me ideas on how to make this available
with very limited rights?

I believe what may be happening here is that the messages are
appearing because of the external JavaScript reference. (Captivate
versions 2 & 3 normally reference a JavaScript file called
"standard.js") Oddly enough, this is done in an effort to bypass
the "Click to activate and use this control" message that only IE
presents.
One way to work past the need for the standard.js file is
described in a section of fellow Adobe Certified Captivate
Instructor John Daigle's article about working with Captivate and
RoboHelp. You may view it by
clicking
here. Pay close attention to how he is describing the
JavaScript modifications.
This may or may not totally resolve your issue, but it's
certainly worth a try!

I have tried to install and run Captivate 4 but it tell me I have this product installed on 2 other computers. I do not have this installed on any other computers.
How do I solve this issue so I can use the Captivate software?- You can only sync with one iTune library but you can manually music music and vides with different computers. To do so go to iTunes>Help>iTunes Help>Sync your iPod....>Sync You Device>Set up Syncing>Sync your device manually and follow the instructions.

Lock downs, freezes and MADNESS!
I am having a problem with frequent freezing on my iBook. By frequent I mean this thing freezes everytime I use it. Sometimes I'm OK for 30 minutes, sometimes for 5 minutes, but no matter how my computer sessions begin, I unfortunately know how they will end. There doesn't seem to be a pattern.
When the freeze occurs, I am not able to remedy the problem by forcing whatever application I'm using to quit. As a result, I have to do a hard shutdown by pressing the power key (don't know what it is called).
Restarting the machine usually takes several tries. Many attempts end with a blank blue screen. Or, I get a blank blue screen and quick flashes of black horizontal lines.
I have run the disk utility on the startup and tried several other things (different kinds of resets), but nothing seems to work. I try to run Norton but the iBook typically freezes about 10 minutes into the process.
I feel it's also important to note that I am having problems with my battery. It's only at 28 percent of capacity and won't seem to take more than an hour's charge. With that in mind, I've tried testing the iBook with the battery in and out, but nothing seems to make a difference. However, I have noticed that I seem to have better luck restarting when the iBook is not plugged into the powercord. Maybe that's my imagination, though.
I am using an iBook G4 purchased in mid-2004. My stats: OS X v. 10.4.3; 1.07 GHz processor; 256 MB memory; and I have about 1 GB left on a 38 GB HD.
Any help would be appreciated.

If you did this before you started having trouble, this very well could be the cause. Norton Utilities for the Mac has been discontinued for about two years now and they never supported Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther), let alone the current Mac OS X 10.4.
My first advice, put in your install disk that has the Apple Hardware Test on it (It should be listed somewhere on the label as "AHT version X.X".) and restart the iBook. Hold down on the "option" key. This will bring up a "Startup Manager" that will allow you to select the disk to startup from. Choose the Hardware Test by clicking on it and then click on the right arrow to continue. I would run the extended test to see if any errors appear. This may take a few minutes. If everything comes out okay, then we can be reasonably sure that you have a software problem, not a hardware problem (but the Apple Hardware Test is not always 100% accurate in reporting hardware failures). Let us know what you find out about this troubleshooting step and we'll try to help you from there. Depending on what you find out, we may recommend different steps...

I have been looking over Document ID 91631 Cisco Unified Wireless Network TACACS+ Configuration.
I tried the setup in our lab and I hit a problem.
WCS is running ver 7 and WiSM is also running 7 code.
ACS is running 4.2
I followed the instructions as they were laid out. I tested my setup using the ID assigned in the ACS. I got an error back when I went to log in to WCS. "No virtual domain has been assigned to this login and I get bumped out.
No where in this doc does it tell about the Virtual domain in the setup of the user group.
Any thoughts ?

Video in FP10 ActionScript 2 vs. ActionScript 3 on locked-down network
My company has an extremly locked-down network, and I'm having some issues getting Flash video to play when it is encoded with ActionScript 3 that I do not have with video encoded with ActionScript 2. What I am assuming is that there is a required external framework or library my network is blocking with regard to AS3 content, but I can't find any information about where that framework or library "lives". (I had a similar problem in an earlier project with the Text Layout Framework, but documentation on that was easy to find and I implimented a solution.) If someone can point me to that framework/library/other external source location I can get my networking guys to unlock it. (Note that I know the actual videos are encoded correctly, as I can get everything to work outside the corporate environment, and the videos are otherwise exactly the same but for their encoding [AS2 happy - which will play - vs. AS3 required - which won't].) This problem is boggling me...

What are the security settings to lock down a form with fillable fields and yet allow someone with Reader to fill in the fields as will as save the form and print it?
You want to allow someone to open your document and fill out the form (in the fields you have created), but not change or edit the form, right? Here's the answer - assuming you are using Acrobat Pro and someone will be opening the PDF using at least Acrobat Reader 9 and up:
Tools > Protection > Encrypt < Encrypt with Password
Answer YES to change the security.
A new window opens:
Do NOT select Document Open (or that will require a password to open the document.)
Select: Permissions (Check the box next to "Restrict editing and printing of the document.")
Change the following 2 settings from the drop-down box:
Printing Allowed: Select High Resolution
Changes Allowed: Select Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing signature fields
Leave selected: "Enable text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired"
Change Permissions Password (insert a strong password)
Leave all other settings alone in "Options"
OK - OK
Re-enter the Permissions Password (the one you entered above)
OK - OK
Save the PDF to apply the security [notice that (SECURED0 will appear after the document title] -
Is it possible to lock down the _vti_bin and _layouts pages with a wildcard option.

A client of mine is running an internet facing sharepoint site. I have managed to lock down the _vti_bin and _layouts pages users for anonymous by using the following entries in my main web.config file:

But this is only ok for the root site collection. Is there a way to lock down all site collections, including sub sites with a type of wildcard entry?
Due to the nature of the clients business, they will be creating many site collections and subsites. I am trying to find a scalable way to manage this. To add an entry for every new site collection or subsite that gets created on the fly does not seem like
the most manageable solution.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sites from anonymous users. Applying this method I noticed that you needed to put an entry for every single site collection and sub site collection, e.g. if I ONLY had a site collection at
https://me.myserver.com then the following entries in the web.config would secure the _vti_bin and _layouts folder from anonymous users:

You can imagine what my web.config will look like eventually and the admin involved in continuously adding these entries to the web.config file to keep it safe from anonymous users.

I imported an hour of video into iMovie HD and cut it down to a 33 sec clip, and emptied the trash. When I save the project, the file size is 20Gb. How can I save just the 33 sec clip?
Non-destructive editing is an important feature of iMovie HD 6.
iMovie preserves the entire copy of every clip you place into your movie in case you change your mind at a later stage.
So, if you have cut out one minute from a 45 minute clip, iMovie will have stored two complete copies of that clip. This is why is helps to set import as 3-5 minute clips rather than one huge chunk. As DV runs at 13GB per hour your project files can get very big.
One workaround is to complete the editing of a section of the movie, then export that to Quicktime: highlight the clip/s, choose Share-Quicktime, turn on Share selected clips only, and choose Full Quality from the pop-ip menu.
Once you have saved the stand-alone clip to your hard drive, you can re-import it into your project using the File/Import command, and delete the original long clip/s from the project. -
I have FCE 4.0.1 and running OS x 10.7.5 when i burn my movie the audio from my movie clips don't come through . My Sound effects and music can be heard. First I export to Quicktime movie, make it self contained then open IDVD for an intro and burn it. everything sounds great in preview but then ( once again)I lose my audio from my movie clips.
Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

T400 Docking station not a secure lock down.
There is a rash of theft currently where I work. It seems that the docking station will release a laptop even though it is locked down. I am wondering if the cable lock should attach to the laptop instead of the docking station. That will be a pain to do with as many meetings that we go to.
Has anyone else seen this problem or know of a better solution? Is there a known problem with a mechanical issue with the dock station? Other then the obvious of installing cameras.If security is a concern, I would lock the laptop instead of the docking station. From what I understand, when you lock a docking station, it prevents the mechanical arms on the pad from allowing the laptop to be removed; however, these mechanical arms (plus the docking station locking mechanism) provide nowhere near the security that a Kensington-style lock does. For maximum protection, I would recommend locking BOTH the docking station and the laptop with a flat key or combination computer lock (dual/twin-headed locks are available). A final note - a thief will probably be much more reluctant to rip out the lock from the computer than the docking station.

Solution for teachers (and others) to lock down the iPod
Hello all. I just have to share something I found yesterday. If you've seen other posts of mine, I am a teacher with a class set of iPod nanos. I have audiobooks on them so the students can listen to and read the book at the same time. My problem was that there are preinstalled games on the iPod nano that cannot be removed. After contacting my educational contact at Apple, she said they have sent it up the pipes, but as of yet there is no solution. Well I found one!
First off, it is not my solution. I attended FETC this year and went back to their website and found a partial solution. The person's name is Luis Perez. He has two websites: http://etc.usf.edu/te_mac/ for mac and http://etc.usf.edu/te_win/ for windows. So here is how you do it.
Create a text file in a text editor that has the following:

save the file as preferences.txt
Create another text file with the following:
Name of link goes here
Here is my completed one:
Click for Audiobooks
Save this under whatever filename you want. I chose Audiobooks.txt
In iTunes make sure you have a playlist named whatever you put in the file. (NOTE: it must be a playlist, it wouldn't link to just audiobooks)
Sync the iPod in disk mode. Open the iPod in Finder or explorer and copy both files into the NOTES folder. Eject the iPod. Now the only thing the iPod will do is go to the notes folder. (it is in a sense 'locked down') Your other file should be listed. When you open that file (audiobooks.txt) it will say the name of your link. When you click that it will start with the first song/book in that playlist. You cannot go to any other thing on the iPod. When you hit menu, it goes right back to the notes folder.
PLEASE NOTE: if you want to 'unlock' the iPod, just trash the preferences.txt file you put on there.
I know it is rather long, but it is a solution I have been looking for. I am hoping other teachers or people who need to secure the iPod for whatever reason are helped by this. Let me know if you have questions.

I am using a Photoshop cs2, and I wonder if it is possible to keep the settings of the guidelines when closing an image, with the actual document ? It would be nice to have the guidelines locked down, I find it than when opening the same or another image, the guidelines are not locked, it is annoying to have to lock them down again. and it would actually be nice, to ba able to give specific directions when placing the guidelines. SQL: System locks up and runs slow after performing simple DML record insert
SQL Version: 2008 R2
I am having a serious problem. I ran the following code to perform a simple table record insert which ran successfully. However, after running this code I could no longer access the related table. I couldn't run a query against it.
I tried to delete all the records and that wouldn't work either. When attempting to run any DML statements (i.e. Select * From vPCCertificateTypes) against this table SQL gets locked up and never returns anything and no error messages. I have
to manually stop the query. Now the entire SQL system is running slow.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. The code I ran to originally insert the records is below.

simply highlight and run 'COMMIT' and it would close the transaction. Apparently that is not the correct approach. I'll use your suggested code from now on.

CRASH REPORT
Product: Adobe Photoshop CC
Application running on:
Apple iMac 3.5GHz late 2013 / Mavericks 10.9.2
Application crashes without warning. Symptom: Drop down boxes go blank white (I shot screen captures of blank drop down boxes) and application stops working, actions for appox. 10 minutes preceding crash are lost. Force Quit required to quit unresponsive / frozen application and then Restart of Adobe Photoshop CC
Crash Frequency: Three time in this work day, 5.6.14 Once a day sporadically (approximately 10 times) in past two weeks.
Other applications running at time of crashes: Adobe Bridge - NOT effected. Computer was on line with no browsers open.
Otherwise computer continued to operate normally.

I did in deed submit a homemade crash report.
I would have submitted "an actual Crash Report " and sooner, but: When this event occurs. there are NO dialog boxes. All frozen / blank. No possibility of "actual crash report" !

I'm sure I will be calling AppleCare, but the problem is, they charge for the phone calls don't they? Because I don't have money to be spending to be on the phone with a support service.
In other things, it seemed like the only time my MacBook was working was when I had Snow Leopard without the 10.6.8 update download that was supposed to be done to prepare for OS X Lion.
When I look at the information of my HD it says that I have 10.6.8 but that was the install that it claimed to have failed and caused me to restart resulting in all of the repeated problems.
Also, because my computer is currently down, and I've lost all files how would that effect the use of my iPhone? Because if it doesn't get fixed by the time OS 5 is released, how would I be able to upgrade?!
