Locked file won't unlock...HELP

So this is the only other problem I have besides my widgets I have with my new iMac....I have a my book that I use for docs and photos. When I open up the my book there is one file folder that has a lock on it and it is the PHOTO folder (which is the one I use the most). I can not get the folder unlocked. I have gone to the "get info" and tried unchecking the "lock" box but the check mark will not come off. I don't even know how it got lock and like I said it is the only folder out of about 20 on the my book that has this lock. ANY suggestions would be very helpful. Thank you in advance!

This didn't help me.
I tried the sudo, but didn't remember my root password. So, I booted from the install disk, and reset the root passwd unsing that utility. While there, I noticed a fix permissions button in the section below 'reset password', so I selected my account and clicked it. I got my home directory to go from:
0: group:everyone deny delete
to
drwxr-xr-x 33 James wheel 1122 Mar 16 19:33 James/
So, then I checked out all the other files, and they are ALL STILL:
0: group:everyone deny delete
So, now armed with a new root password and the cgflags command, I set out with:
chflags -R nouchg /Users/James/*
did nothing.
so, I su'd to root and did it again.
still no change.
I am thinking chown might need to implemented.
Any other ideas?

Lock icon won't unlock

I am the administrator of my laptop. It's noted as admin. All of a sudden I can't trash anything (no privledges) and when I go to "Accounts", the lock icon won't do anything when I try to unlock it either. Also in "Accounts" there are two listings for my name with admin on both of them but it won't let me access the second one at all.
I have no idea how this started.

Some other things started happening while I was waiting for a reply. Having to force quit apps, slowing down, etc. So I restarted the machine and had to do it a couple of times to even get the apps to quit on their own.
When all was quitting as it should, I did another restart and now everything seems to be back to normal including being able to trash things, etc.

ORA-27086: unable to lock file - already in use, Help

We have a windows 2003 server running 10.1.02 w/multiple instances. I created a new, fresh database using DBCA. the db created OK, and I can login as sys.
When I try to create a tablespace, I get these errors. Any suggestions, please?

O/S-Error: (OS 5) Access is denied.First of all, you need to give an absolute path to your datafile. Otherwise, it's going to be hard to track where's the file.
Do you have other database instance running on the same server?

Deleted User's Locked files won't open URGENT!!!

Ok, I had two users on my computer. I trasnfered a file to one of the users accidentally, and then deleted the user. I then realized that I needed a file on that account, and want to get it back. I went into the hard drive, and it says that it is a deleted user, but they are all locked. I went to Get Info and tried to unlock it, and it won't work. I need to get these files ASAP, but nothing seems to work. Please help!

Select the folder in the Finder and open the Info window. Click the padlock icon and authenticate. Give yourself read & write access, then click Apply to Enclosed Items.

Locked iTunes won't unlock~ and I need to restore from Time Machine

I have somehow lost all my iTunes. When I go to play something - I get the grey exclamation mark comes up.
In trying to restore from Timw Machine, I find my iTunes is now unlocked. I have gone through the process of unlocking every file I can find and changing all the permissions to read and write. However it is still locked.
Can ypu help me with two things
a) how to unlock iTunes using a defferent technique to that which I have tried.
b) tell me EXACTLY (step by step - because I am a mac newbie!) how I restore from my Time machine preferably. I do have my full collection (about 15 000 pieces) on my ipod if I need that - but I am terrified of loosing everything.

Problem with the PUT operation some files won't transfer help please

I am using DWCS3 on OS X Leoard 10.5 and MAMP
I am putting together a basic index.html page and then I want to template it. Pretty basic stuff.
However when I want to view the index.html page in my MAMP testing server, In the middle of the PUT operation I get a message saying;

I am aware that files are not transferring over to the testing server but I don't understand why or how to fix the problem. I don't think the problem lies with the path from Dreamweaver to the testing server because I have been working on the page and viewing it in the testing server. It's only just started displaying the message above and not passing some of the files over. It will for example pass the index.css page over.
I have copied the code over for index.html, SpryMenuBar.js, SpryMenuBarHorizontal.ccs and SpryMenuBarVertical.css.
In the hope that someone will not mind taking a look at this for me.

I've only encountered two instances where the PUT operation failed on certain files. One, the server does not like the particular file type, and two, when the file was open in another program.
Other than that, I could only guess that it may have something else to do with the web server configuration and not DW.

Email sub account locked out & won't unlock

My "primary" email account already went through the verizonwireless annoyance now, one of my "sub" email accounts is locked due to excessive failed attempts. Ok, normally I can deal with that. However, when prompted to change password & security question - it is defaulting to my PRIMARY account NOT my SUB account.
After going through the prompts and making the changes - my SUB account issue is still UNRESOLVED. Anyone else having this problem???

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you.
Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases". You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.
Under “My Support Cases” you will find a link to the private board where you and the agent may exchange information. This should be checked on a frequent basis as the agent may be waiting for information from you before they can proceed with any actions.
To ensure you know when they have responded to you, at the top of your support case there is a drop down menu for support case options. Open that and choose "subscribe".
Please keep all correspondence regarding your issue in the private support portal.

Unix executable file won't open HELP!

I am having the same problem as one other person, my word folder has changed to a Unix executable file and I can't open the content in the folders anymore. I was just using the folder yesterday and now they are now working. Please help!

I'm not sure if this is your problem. But I was futzing with a file, and intentionally removed most of it's attributes, as reported by the mdls command.
I was able to get enough of them back, for the file to be recognized by the finder again.
This command lists the different importers.
$ mdimport -L
find the one that matches the filetype. Then run the following, where testfile is the file that you're having problems with.
mdimport -g /System/Library/Spotlight/XXXXXX.mdimporter testfile
I don't use Word, so I can't tell you the name of the importer file that you need. It may be possible to just
run
mdimport testfile

File won't open - HELP

Hi All,
I was using a file in Captivate 7 and it was saved with a timestamp of 3.41pm.
Captivate crashed so I did CTRL + ALT + DEL and closed captivate and reopened it however I got the following error (view attached),
I also reset the computer and tried again and got the same message. Is there someway I can recover this. Eg, renaming project etc?

.pkg files won't install. help!!!

one of the g4 733 computers we use is running 10.3.9. i need several installs for our specialized keyboard and shuttle express controls. however, the OS won't allow me to install these items, even if i am in administrator or root login. after clicking to install i get this message, "you cannot open this application because it may be damaged or incomplete." if i transfer these install .pkgs to other macs, they install perfectly. what is it on this system that is denying these installs? i've tried stuffit expander 10.0 and it tells me, "An error occured during the stuff operation. error #17530."

At a first guess, it sounds like something might have been corrupted in your Installer application (found in /Applications/Utilities)
The first thing I would try would be to copy that application over from one of your other computers, and try again... let us know how that turns out.

It doesn't sound like the PDF was password protected (or Adobe Reader would prompt you for a password). Instead, it sounds like that file may be marked locked by your operating system. Are you on Mac OS or Windows? In either case, here are instructions for removing the lock icon from the file:
Remove the Lock Icon from a Folder in Windows 7 (check Microsoft's website if you have a different version of Windows)
On Mac OS, select the file in the Finder, and choose File > Get Info. Then, just deselect the Lock checkbox.

And to make matters worse, I tried renaming them as pdf files thinking that might do the trick.

oh boy ! I'd ask you if you knew what kind of files they were or where they came from, but I don't think you could help me a bunch. Try going to the Utilities folder and running Disk Utilities. If you want to empty the Trash and it won't empty, go to the finder and choose "secure Empty trash". Worse case scenario-you may have to reinstall Snow Leopard, but I don't know what else to suggest. If you have a DVD of Snow Leopard, boot up from that, and reinstall the OS. This will not touch the stuff you have on your Hard Drive, then you can update from 10.6 to 10.6.8, otherwise Onyx? Maybe those files are part of the OS which needs them to keep running. if you hold down the Shift key on reboot, you can reboot in Safe mode and maybe you can take the files out of the trash that way

Help with locked files???

Hello everyone!!! i have a question, i have a mini mac with the MacOS 10.3 the thing is that i just saved some files from my old pc to my external hard drive, and when i plugged it into my mini mac everything looks good, so decided to work with photoshop cs2 with some of the files that i have in my external hard drive, but when i try to save my work as normal i get an error message that says "cannot save cuz the file is locked, please go to get info and unlock the file" so this is my issue, what i have to do to unlock the files?? pleae help?

All the references I can find about NTFS 3g require Tiger or later. Maybe an early release for Panther exists but you'll have to search.
You can certain reformat to FAT as Niel suggests but if you're just going to be using this with a Mac I'd format it to Mac extended. This will get around the file size limit, and more importantly you can use Disk Utility to repair the drive should you have problems with it. DU won't repair FAT.

Lion locks files containing photos and you must unlock to save

Hello Lion Users
If you haven't run across this one yet, you probably will. If you open a Pages document containing a photo and you reduce the file size you cannot save it without responding to a dialogue saying that the file hasn't been changed in two weeks and it locked and you have to answer UNLOCK to save it.
This also happened to me when I downloaded photos to my desktop which were taken TODAY. Before I could crop them in PREVIEW, I had to go through that dialogue to UNLOCK and then save them.
There is NOTHING about this on the Apple Support site at this point. But here is the solution.
For some reason, probably having to do with the auto-save and version-save feature in LION, Apple has decided to check the box in the Time Machine PREFERENCE pane to lock files when they haven't been accessed for two weeks. If you don't use Time Capsule (and I don't) you wouldn't think to go to that preference pane when you upgrade to Lion, so this really is a strange thing to do to users.
Go to the Time Machine Prefernece pane and UNCHECK the box to lock files automatically and you won't have this problem any more.
I hope Apple will uncheck that box for new installations because it is a very annoying thing to have to unlock all of these photos before you can save them.
