Locked filed on desktop

I have a locked file on my desktop and wish to trash it. How? Please excuse my ignorance. This is the first time that I have had this happen and I am just a novice at this.

Select the file and choose Get Info from the File menu. Uncheck the box next to Locked and close the window. If this box is grayed out, open the Ownership & Permissions section, change the owner to yourself, and then enter your password when prompted; this will release the box.

Deleting locked file on desktop

Greetings-
This is more a software question. I transferred QuickBook files from a PC to my Mac. I can run QB for Mac easily, but the transfer left a locked .qbw file on my desktop. I think this is a QB backup for Windows file. I am trying to delete it but can't because it is locked. I tried to delete from within QB, but can't. It is no big deal, but I would love to get it off my Desktop. Any ideas? I tried to contact Intuit, but they require an Intuit ID which I don't have. Thanks.

Ok Ed Colman lets try this:
deleting locked files
1. Open Terminal. It's located in your /Applications/Utilities.
Paste the following command:
*chflags -R nouchg*
Note: Type one space (not pictured) after nouchg in the line above, so that it ends in "nouchg ". Do not press Return yet.
2. Drag the files from the desktop to the Terminal window.
Note: This automatically enters the pathname for file/folder.
3. Press Return. No special text message will be shown indicating that the command was successful.
This should unlock hidden flags in directory and subdirectories /file that you can not get to.
4. Exit to terminate terminal session then quit as normal.
5.Delete rouge file as normal, empty trash or secure empty trash.

I have been locked out of desktop

I can't access my desktop My daughter has played a game and clicked some thing and locked me out of my desktop all that shows is my external HDD's. When I save a scanned document or file to desktop it doesn't show and When I click on the folder in finder it says I don't have access. There is only one acc on my IMac and Im using Mavericks The desktop tab in finder has also gone from the list on the left side and when i click on my acc and try to open Desktop from that list is says i don't have permission to open this folder. I am loggged in as Admin, also my screen capture wont save file because i don't have permission to the place that they are saved to so I can't upload screenshots to show here

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this,boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type: ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

Messages filed on Desktop are not filed on Playbook

I have an ActiveSync Account connected to Microsoft Exchange Server on my Playbook (2.1.0.1526).
In many cases, a received message I file into a folder on my Desktop is not filed on the Playbook
but remain in the Inbox. ( The respectice folder(s) on the Playbook is chosen to synchronize).
The message(s) are filed correctly on my 9900.
I noticed, that if I delete the unfiled message from the Playbook inbox it is NOT deleted from the Desktop and 9900.
Any help appreciated.

Do you have your email account setup using a Microsoft Exchange profile or a PST file in Microsoft Outlook? Also, if you are using a Microsoft Exchange profile, can you confirm if you're using Cached Exchange mode?
Another thing I would like you to do if possible, login to your email account using Outlook Web Access to see if the messages appear deleted or filed.

Locked documents on desktop

I have 2 documents that are read only and locked by another person on my desktop. is there a way to remove them? they won't go into the trash and i can't delete them. i accidently opened them and now they are on the desktop, i know my fault but there must be a way!!!

Select them in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, and clear the Locked checkbox. If needed, unlock the padlock in Sharing & Permissions, add yourself to the list, and use the gear menu to make yourself the owner.

How can I create an shortcut icon on desktop to lock the screen ?
I want to lock the screen using touch capabilities, in the same way I unlock it.

You could report the issue to Apple by sending feedback.
You could try using a faster loading screen saver like Spectrum or "computer name." Another option might be to use sleep screen instead of screen saver. (System Preferences, Energy Saver, Display Sleep) I

Lock position of desktop icons?

I would like to lock the position of a number of important desktop icons: the disk icons.
I have searched around and found nothing so far. Some claim that they are supposed to be locked - see the link below - but every time I move to another monitor (which happens several times per day) my desktop is a big mess.
I still want to be able to put new things on the desktop, but these should appear at an empty place, not on top of the locked items.

This requires you to goto Finder/Services/Script Editor/Make a New Applescript
And then copy and paste, and follow the authors directions in setting it up for lgin, also remember to run it once before re-logging in.

Lock position on desktop

Is there a way to lock an icon in a certain spot on the desktop?

I have the same question: How do I lock the icons in the positions I want in 10.4.8??
I have the HD icon, a html-page and four folders on the desktop. I want the HD icon top-left and under it the four folders. The html-page I want bottom-left.
So I place them there and the next time I boot, the HD icon is at top-right.
If I select Arrange, the icons don't stay at the far left but as if the dock was there - which it isn't. And the html-page icon is lowered so the name of it isn't visible... (True!)
Arrange By... doesn't have any options that suits me - not size, not creation date... In the Options dialogue I cannot find any "grid"...
Any ideas?

Screen Lock glitch, shows desktop

I noticed a random problem that has been showing up with the screen locking option. I have it set to lock my screen after about 15 minutes. A few times i've walked back to the computer and when i move my mouse, the windows shows up asking for my password. The glitch is that it doesn't black out the screen! I can still see and use the stuff on my desktop, just the logon window shows up on top! its defiantly a security flaw and a weird problem. i can't seem to recreate it, it just happens randomly. Nothing notable shows up in Console either. Any ideas on how to fix this problem? I lock after 15 minutes and sometimes lock using the Keychain shortcut in the toolbar.

"Locked" iTunes on desktop

For some reason, when I try to open iTunes on my Mac is says "locked" and I "dont have write access" or somesuch. It wont let me access iTunes at all.
Ive been using iTunes on this Mac for 2 years with no problem ... and have changed nothing. This problem literally developed out of the blue.
Any thoughts?

Navigate through Finder to ./Users/YourUserName/Music/iTunes
Open an Info window on that folder
Expand "Ownership & Permissions" as well as "Details" underneath.
Make sure that you can "Read & Write" then hit the "Apply to enclosed items..." button

5900XT-VTD128 Locks up after Desktop...

I loaded the drivers that came with the card and it would load up fine till it would get to the desktop and then the monitor would go blank and and the smonitor LED would go from green to orange like the monitor went into sleep mode.
In order to even get to the desktop to use the PC at all I have to hit F8 and hit enable VGA then up the resolution back once I got to the desktop but if the screensaver comes on or if I try to run a game where it has to refresh then it will do the same thign and shut off the monitor.
I was replacing my Geforce4 MX VTD card with this one and my system ran stable before for 3.5 years until I installed this card.
Could it be the wrong drivers? Settings in the BIOS? Any help would be appreciated because I would really love to play DOOM 3.

yes I have all the monitor drivers installed and the resolution I am runnin at is 1152x864
The same resolution I had on my GF4 MX 440...
I am trying to avoid having to reload the OS from scratch to get this to work...

Locked desktop icons

Somehow I locked all my desktop icons and can't remember how to unlock them. Get Info shows locked button checked but grayed out so I can't change it. I've repaired permissions and checked several forums with no answer. Help?

Did you click the lock to authenticate in the lower right of the get info screen.

Windows 2012r2 Remote desktop services: session based: Locked down

I am trying to lock down the remote desktop services sessions , just like I did with windows 2003 TS.
I am following this article :

I have done till disable registry modifications.
I stopped to check if the changes made were in effect before continuing.
What did work is the disable server manager popup at user logon.
Nothing else seems to have taken effect: just to mention a few
Microsoft administrative tools,
network and sharing center.
ABCD drives are still being seen.
What did I miss ?

How do I remove backup files from desktop

I am having difficulty removing backup files that are locked from my desktop that I transfered from a backup external hard drive. It starts to delete but whern it gets to 0 it rewrites the file. this happens evn after I answer "remove all locked files".

I was able to delete the backup.backup files once I :
1. ran disk repair
2. disconnected the external drive and restarted.
Also the 1password.backup files
( Other discussions helped greatly.)
