Locked files - Dreamweaver CS5.5
I had to erase my computer's hard drive, reinstall, and bring back my files from the backup drive. After doing so, Dreamweaver tells me all of my site files "is a locked file and can be viewed but not changed. What would you like to do with this file?"
Why are my files locked, and how can I get them unlocked?
Thank you in advance, for your help!
Dreamweaver CS5.5 Version 11.5 Build 5315
Mac OS 10.9.5
We are restoring from a Time Machine backup to a Thunderbolt drive.
I checked and changed the preferences in finder, for the Dreamweaver site files, but had no luck.
I scoured the internet in search of a solution, while the Apple adviser I've been working with, was off for the weekend. I tried deleting the /user/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/MacFileCache-C92F77BA.dat file. No difference. I even deleted the entire Configuration folder. It didn't make a bit of difference.
When Senior Apple Adviser, Korrie Smith, got back after her weekend off, she suggested going (in finder) to my user/documents folder and changing the preferences for the folder and everything in it, by selecting "Apply to enclosed items". And it worked! Dreamweaver is happy now! This also resolved the issues I was having with other applications.

Dreamweaver CS5.5 Crashes Opening 1 File
I'm having problems with Dreamweaver CS5.5 (v 11.5.1.5344) crashing when opening 1 .php file in a site. Other php files in the same site open fine, but when I open this one particular file Dreamweaver CS5.5 stops responding and I have to force quit. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and have trashed the Preferences completely.
Other sites work as expected and I can open the problematic file in a text editor and make changes successfully.Any tips for what to do next as this is getting really frustrating.
I have lots of crash logs but tried to submit one to Adobe but it was too large to submit.
ThanksHere's the crashlog if that helps as well:

I upgrades my mac operating system to OSX 10.9.4 and now my Dreamweaver CS5 won't work, it just quits unexpectedly. Please help.
Remove preferences on Mac OS
Quit Dreamweaver.
In the Finder, navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
Rename the Dreamweaver preferences folder:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Dreamweaver CS5 folder to, for example, Old Dreamweaver CS5.
Navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences.
Rename the Dreamweaver preferences file:
Dreamweaver CS5: Rename the Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs file to, for example, Old Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 Prefs.
Try to re-create problem
After you have removed your existing preferences, restart Dreamweaver. The application creates new preferences files, folders, and registry entries, as applicable, using the default settings.
Then try to re-create the problem that you had before.
If the problem was resolved, then damaged preferences was the cause.
If the problem persists, then the preferences are not the cause and you can replace the original preferences.
To replace the original preferences:
Quit dreamweaver.
Delete the new preferences folder and restore the original name of the previous folder. -
"Update Template Files" not working, Dreamweaver CS5
"Update Template Files" does not seem to be working in Dreamweaver CS5.
After making a change to a template and saving it, I get the "Update Template Files" dialog box. It lists all of the files based on the template. So, I click "Update". Then, the "Update Pages" dialog box appears. Any files to be updated already open in Dreamweaver are modified correctly - in memory, that is. However, closed files do not get modified. The "Update Pages" dialog box seems to just get hung up. It just sits there with a status of "Updating...".
Is this an installation issue? ... a template issue? ... or what?
FYI: I am using the 32-bit version for 32-bit Windows Vista.Not that it will be of any use, the template is here: http://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B4haLf-RrxgTZjVhYzEwOWYtNmMyMC00MWVmLWJiNDgtYTYzM2QzZDI5Zm Fh&hl=en
There have been, of course, numerous updates to it since the problem disappeared.
As for the specifics of what I was trying to change when the problem was first encountered, I was attempting to change a link URI in the navigation bar. However, any change at all would end the same way, with a locked up template synchronizer (or whatever the mechanism is called). Just before I gave up testing, I was repeating the process of simply adding a space anywhere and removing it in order to trigger the modified flag. -

How does on add a photo gallery to a web site in Dreamweaver CS5 and have the file folder which contains the photos, recognized as the "go to location" for the link up?
Ok. So Photos1.htm is the main gallery page.
And it looks like you have sub-folders with images in them like these from 2011 and 2010
LLA Picnic 2011/
photos 2010/

How to enable syntax highlighting for jspf files on Dreamweaver CS5.5 on Mac
I ran into an issue where I couldn't get the color coding (color coding style) for java server pages fragments (.jspf) files to show syntax highliting.
I followed the adobe instructions on Changing and adding file extensions recognized by Dreamweaver without any luck.
Here is the solution that worked for me:
On a Mac:
1. Edit the /Users/YOUR USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumetTypes.xml
Note: the Adobe instructions tell you to edit /Applications/Adobe Dreamweaver CS5.5/Configuration/DocumentTypes/MMDocumetTypes.xml (Editing this file didn't do anything for me, so you need to change the file above instead)
Find,
<documenttype id="JSP" servermodel="JSP" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="jsp,jst" macfileextension="jsp,jst" file="Default.jsp" writebyteordermark="false" mimetype="text/html">
Replace with,
<documenttype id="JSP" servermodel="JSP" internaltype="Dynamic" winfileextension="jsp,jst,jspf" macfileextension="jsp,jst,jspf" file="Default.jsp" writebyteordermark="false" mimetype="text/html">
2. Edit the /Users/YOUR USER/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Dreamweaver CS5.5/en_US/Configuration/Extensions.txt
In the All: section on top add the jspf extention right after jsp in my example it looked like this
HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML,STM,SSI,JS,JSON,AS,ASC,ASR,XML,XSL,XSD,DTD,XSLT,RSS,RDF, LBI,DWT,ASP,ASA,ASPX,ASCX,ASMX,CONFIG,CS,CSS,CFM,CFML,CFC,TLD,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHP-D IST,PHTML,JSP,WML,TPL,LASSO,JSF,VB,VBS,VTM,VTML,INC,SQL,JAVA,EDML,MASTER,INFO,INSTALL,THEME,CONFIG,MODU LE,PROFILE,ENGINE,SVG:All
and I added the jspf and it looks like this now,
HTM,HTML,SHTM,SHTML,HTA,HTC,XHTML,STM,SSI,JS,JSON,AS,ASC,ASR,XML,XSL,XSD,DTD,XSLT,RSS,RDF, LBI,DWT,ASP,ASA,ASPX,ASCX,ASMX,CONFIG,CS,CSS,CFM,CFML,CFC,TLD,TXT,PHP,PHP3,PHP4,PHP5,PHP-D IST,PHTML,JSP,JSPF,WML,TPL,LASSO,JSF,VB,VBS,VTM,VTML,INC,SQL,JAVA,EDML,MASTER,INFO,INSTALL,THEME,CONFIG,MODU LE,PROFILE,ENGINE,SVG:All
That's it, Quit Dreamweaver and open it up again. Open the .jspf file and see the color coding (syntax highlighting)
Hope this helps you and seves you time figuring it out. If this helped, do a good thing, next time you figure something out, tell others about it to save their time too, like I did. Enjoy.TheGrandNabib wrote:
I don't seem to have a user Library folder, my only Library folder is on the same level as my Users folder.
From Locating your personal configuration folder in the Dreamweaver FAQ:
In Mac OS X (Lion and Mountain Lion), open Finder and press Shift-Cmd-Go. Type ~/Library/Application Support in the dialog box, and click Go. You should then be able to find the configuration folder. -
Dreamweaver CS5 doesn't start, cannot find configuration file
Dreamweaver Could not locate the Resource file in the Configuration folder. This file is required to run Dreamweaver. Please reinstall the application.
Dreamweaver CS5 doesn't start due to the error message above.
Found the configuration folder but on my roaming profile on the server, not on C drive.
Note that I installed Dreamweaver on the second partition of the hard disk, not on C drive due to lack of space. Other Adobe CS5 software are running well such as Photoshop and InDesign.
I have tried to delete (after backup) the Configuration folder, as I read on this forum that it should be automatically recreated, but no success. Tried to copy the Configuration folder (in fact the entire Adobe folder) to the user profile on C drive, but no success.
On this PC, no previous version of Dreamweaver has been installed. However, I have used older versions on different computers, and there are in the Adobe folder on my roaming profile traces of CS4 and CS6.
Could you please advise?Not sure which thread you have read on this forum but I suggest read this official document and then see if resolves any lingering problems.

Styles being dropped on network shared folder files in Dreamweaver CS5.5
Hello, apoligies if this has already been solved but I could not find anything similar. Recently we have upgraded our staff from Dreamweaver CS4 to CS5.5 and are having some issues with pages dropping the stylesheets which are linked relatively. The relative files are located on a shared network drive which is mapped in Windows 7 as a drive (e.g. My Computer shows the drive as R:).
In Dreamweaver design view up the top it reads:
Address: file:///R|/acrrm/tinnitus/course_content/001.html
and there is a yellow bar up the top which reads:
'common_styles.css' is a remote file and cannot be edited.
We never had this issue before so I was wondering if it was a new limitation of CS5.5 or if there was something I should look out for in the site definition.
Interestingly enough I was able to fix this on one machine by randomly toggling the live code/view buttons, havent had any luck doing that to other machines though.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Here are the specs:
O.S: Windows 7
Version: Dreamweaver CS5.5
Site Definition: Network shared driveInterestingly enough I was able to fix this on one machine by randomly toggling the live code/view buttons, havent had any luck doing that to other machines though.
I would have to say that this operation could not possibly fix anything. I suspect that simply waiting the same amount of time as this operation required would have returned the same result, and it sounds like there is some latency in your network.
Your site is entirely contained on a network shared drive, right? Or is it that only SOME files are on the network shared drive (R:)? Also, where is it you are seeing this?
Address: file:///R|/acrrm/tinnitus/course_content/001.html -

Dreamweaver CS5 slow to open or update all files
Hi all,
I'm experiencing slowness when i open my webiste in CS5 and it seems take forever to save when i make any changes. It used to take place instantly and now i cant get any work done on my website due to the load time. Yet, many times it also stop responding and close out on me when i try to do a live view of the changes that i just made.
Any help and suggestion will be appreciated.Thanks SnakEyez02 for the quick response.
I've not change any setup on dreaweaver, yet i have start working on a new website. I'm relative new to dreamweaver cs5, and i'm in the process of re-learning this program all over again. I wonder could that slowness partially caused by some of the rss feed or embeded javascipt on this particular website (www.maxdailydeal.com). I mean it's extremely painful to get any work done when dreamweaver takes forever to open files and save changes, yet the worst part when it crashes on you piror to save the changes.
PS. using Win 7, network setup to update website on save via ftp setup on dreamweaver.
Many thanks,

Dreamweaver CS5.5 template PHP file path bug
I have a template that I am using for my website, it is a PHP template and for some reason whenever I have some links within the PHP code blocks that include other .php files. My code is:
<?php
//Code In template
include('../scripts/MySqlConnection.php');
include('../scripts/login.php');
?>
The code is just including some files, but when I update all the pages that use this Template they dont put the right links on them, like so:
<?php
//Code That Appears On Child Page
include('scripts/MySqlConnection.php');
include('../scripts/login.php');
?>
For some reason the first link is correct since this document is in the root of the site instead of in the Templates folder like my template is, but the second "include" statement has the wrong link inside of it. Even if I switch them around its always the very first include statement that is correct and the 2nd is always wrong.
Also the links are all relative to the document and not site root in the "Manage Sites..." dialog.
Is there anyway to fix this? I heard that this was a quirk/bug in Dreamweaver 8 or something but is it still not fixed in this version?
ThanksYes I guess that I am gonna have to use one of those solutions, but it still is weird that this is happening within the code though. I found one thread where the solution was to put the include tags into a seperate PHP block like this:
//Template
<?php include('../scripts/MySqlConnection.php'); ?>
<?php include('../scripts/login.php'); ?>
And it actually outputted the correct links on the child page which is really weird but this was from like Dreamweaver 8 or MX or something because the thread was from like 2007 which is weird that they hadn't fixed this bug yet considering its 2012 and Dreamweaver CS5.5 still has the bug. -
Dreamweaver CS5.5 Deleting Code When Copying a File
When I try to copy or duplicate a file in Dreamweaver CS5.5 for Mac, Dreamweaver removes the last five or six lines of code. I have to create a lot of nearly-identical webpages with the same footer information on each page, and it's really tiresome having to go back into each page and re-create the code Dreamweaver has deleted. I've updated both the Dreamweaver and OS software, but it hasn't corrected the problem. It doesn't matter whether I use the "copy", "paste", "duplicate" Dreamweaver functions, or if I simply use Command+C, Command+V. I can't seem to find anyone online having a similar problem. Do any of you know of a fix?
Here's an example:
The code at the end of the original page:
<p><a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="http://osu.okstate.edu">OSU Homepage</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="http://admissions.okstate.edu">Admissions Homepage</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="mailto:[email protected]">Contact Us</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="http://admissions.okstate.edu/getmail" target="_blank">Get Mail</a></p></center></html>
What ends up on the copied page:
<p><a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="http://osu.okstate.edu">OSU Homepage</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="http://admissions.okstate.edu">Admissions Homepage</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10px" href="mailto:[email protected]">Contact Us</a> <font style="font-size: 10px">|</font> <a style="color: #FF6600; font-weight: bold; font-size: 10On the remote server side, I can right-click, say, index.html and copy or duplicate it. It's in that process that the code is being chopped off.
I never work that way and wouldn't want to for a variety of reasons.
Best to open index.html in your Local Site.
Hit File > SaveAs "some-new-filename.html"
Try doing that a few times and report back with your results.

Need help importing files into Dreamweaver CS5.5
Greetings,
Currently I have website that is hosted on GoDaddy.com http://www.4thdist.org/home.php . This site was created by another person that is not available to help with my problem. I am attempting to modify or edit this website using Dreamweaver CS5.5 and having difficulties loading the files into Dreamweaver.
First, using Filezilla I downloaded all the files and folders to my PC. At this point, I am stuck and cannot figure out how to upload or open the files and really need some advice. I read the Adobe help section on "importing" and it describes a .ste file. I searched the download folder and cannot find any file (*.ste)
I am hoping to salvage the site and not have to reinvent the wheel and start over. Any advice would be extrmely helpful........GaryThanks for the quick reply.
Your comments raised some new questions. Let me update all on where I am. First, I am able to connect to GoDaddy server via the the local and remote views in the bottom right corner of DW. I see the file folder structure on GoDaddy. I can also see the file structure on my local hardrive that I copied using filezilla. Although, using the server connection I notice that I can download the files using this connection now. Should I delete what I did via filezilla and start over using the romote server connection? One more problem. I have content for two (2) websites on the remote server. http://www.vfwstatepoolleague.org/ This is in addition to the listed in my original post. Although, it appears the other website content is in a seperate folder. I assume that I will need to separtate this content somehow. At least link to it when I begin to start to create a .ste file for each site.
I started to read the article "Creating your first website"in your post and should be very helpful. I did run into a little road block.
I created (2) site names and linked to the appropriate folder on my hard drive. Although, I do not have: "check_cs5" folder on my local or remote folder. What does that mean? Should I create one? -
Index.html file locks up Dreamweaver, TextEdit and Word
I've been doing design work (print & web) on the Mac for 20+ years and this problem has me stumped:
Yesterday I went to open my tried and true index.html file and it locked up Dreamweaver every time. I re-started the computer, ran Disk Utilities, deleted the Dreamweaver configuration cache file, renamed the file, downloaded a backup of the file, etc. Nothing worked. This file ALSO causes TextEdit and Word to lock up.
I can open all other dreamweaver files and can't imagine what is causing this file to dump. The file works in all web browsers, and I can even view/copy the source code out of Safari. But, when I tried and paste to source code to create/save a new text file, whatever application I'm using (dreamweaver/textedit/word) locks up. I finally created a brand new index file out of desperation, and that appears to work fine.
Does anyone have any ideas?? (Link to problem file: http://www.pencilplace.com/index_bu.html)
Thanks,
KelliI re-started the computer, ran Disk Utilities, deleted the Dreamweaver configuration cache file, renamed the file, downloaded a backup of the file, etc. Nothing worked.
First, you say you "ran Disk Utilities", but that is a very vague statement. Disk Utility is a tool that can do many things, so what exactly did you do with it? If you repaired the hard drive (not permissions), were any errors found, and were those errors fixed?
Second, have to tried opening the HTML file with a plain text editor like [TextWrangler|http://www.barebones.com/products/TextWrangler>? If it can open fine in an editor that won't even try rendering any HTML, but crashes all those other editors that are probably trying to render the HTML, there may be something subtly wrong with the code... though, I've never seen anything like that, so I wouldn't know what to look for.
