Locked Folder on my Time Capsule

When I originally purchased my time capsule, I had a ton of music and videos. They were all on a different external hard drive and I created them all from ripping various cds. I transferred them all to the time capsule manually. Then I copied them from capsule to my new MacBook Pro and set that directory as my library for iTunes. I have since cleaned up my iTunes directory (removing the files that wouldn't play, were partial, poor recordings, etc) and now I want to remove ALL the music from the time capsule, so I can copy my music from the MacBook Pro to the capsule. However, when I attempt to delete the music from the Time Capsule, I am getting a message that this cannot be completed because the folder is locked. When I attempt to Unlock the folder using the Get Info dialog, the check box will uncheck temporarily and then turn itself back on. Any ideas how I can do this?

Finder locking up when browsing Time capsule hard drive
I am able to browse the hard drive preview some videos or open files for around 5-10 mins then Finder locks up. Internet still works and I can relaunch Finder and then works for a while again. It sounds like the hard drive is just going to sleep. I watch some films directly off of the hard drive through VLC and these just stop wilst viewing them.
I am on 10.6.2 working on the 5GHZ channel on dual band time capsule.
It is really annoying I have tried a few things like resetting the DCHP Lease. But it seems to be specific to the hard drive as the internet still works fine. It is really annoying as it jams up the finder really awkwardly.
    Ant ideas most wanted
    Thanks

Are you browsing/viewing files in Time Machine backups on your Time Capsule, or files you've put there yourself?
If the files are Time Machine backups, use the Time Machine interface (the "Star Wars" display), via the Time Machine icon in your dock (or in your Applications/Utilities folder) to see what's there. Backups are not meant to be used; they're duplicates that can be restored in case of a problem with the originals on your system.
If the files are things you put there, you'll do better browsing, searching, or re-posting in the +Time Capsule+ forum, hiding in the +Digital Life+ section, at: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1253

  • How do I back up my iTunes folder to my time capsule?

How do I back up my iTunes folder to my Time Capsule?

    A couple of issues here:
First, keeping backups and other data on the TC's internal HD presents problems.  See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule for an explanation and some possible workarounds.
Second, as Bob says, Time Machine can't back up either the TC's hard drive or a USB drive connected to it.
it's a bit messy, but this might work:
Attach a USB drive to the TC and put your iTunes library on it.
Create a disk image (as in #Q3) on the TC's internal HD, and use a 3rd-party app such as Chronosync to back iTunes up to the disk image.  I've not done that, so can't swear to it, but it appears it would work.

  • Can I setup a folder on the time capsule for sharing between computers not on my network?

I'm wanting to be able to share files between family members that don't live in the same household. How would I set up a single folder on my Time Capsule so everyone can use it as a shared network drive between Windows and Mac systems, with security?

No.  Your Mac will mirror the folders on icloud.com.

  • Can I move iCloud Drive folder to my Time Capsule?

Can I move iCloud Drive folder to my Time Capsule?
I have 250Gb storage on my Macbook, but plan to by the 500Gb storage plan from Apple. To do that I'd need to used the iCloud Drive folder on an larger external hard drive, instead of my own Macbook...
Does anyone knows if that can be done?
I also use Drop Box and it's local drive can be 'move' to an external HD easily...
    Tks!

The iCloud Drive folder is is stored in your user library, in the folder ~/Library/Mobile Documents
If you want to move this folder to an external drive, you would have to relocate your home folder there. Moving the home folder is supported, but not moving parts of the user library.
But that would not be practical on a portable Mac to move the home folder to an external drive, because you could not log in without connecting the external drive.

  • HT3486 Can I shared the files/folder of my time capsule with Mac/PC/iPad outside my lan?

Can I shared the files/folder of my time capsule with Mac/PC/iPad outside my LAN?

Mac yes.. use BTMM and iCloud or direct AFP connection to the TC.
There is huge amount of info.. just look up remote access time capsule.
PC no.. there is no AFP protocol application that I know of.
iPad no,.. again it is not an AFP protocol device. The only open access method apple allowed is BTMM which doesn't work for ipad.
If you want access for PC and ipad you need to replace the current modem router combo.. whatever it is with one that includes vpn server endpoints.. these can be fairly cheap.. plenty of products with 3rd party firmware will work. VPN is far superior method.

  • ITunes library folder vanished from Time Capsule after iMac crash

    Hi,
Up until tonight, I've had my entire iTunes library stored on my 1TB Time Capsule (TC) which is accessed by a couple of Macs. After a forced restart of my iMac, the iTunes library on the TC has disappeared. I was in the middle of a iPhone 4 sync if I recall ...
I've run Disk Warrior over the internal hard drive on the iMac to no avail. Disk Warrior cannot see the TC drive. I've disconnected all users and powered the TC off completely and let it restart. Again, the folder on the TC which contained the iTunes library has vanished. All other folders / files on the TC appear in tact.
I don't believe I've deleted it as the remaining disk space on the TC hasn't changed. So I think it's still there but maybe it's corrupted?
Does anyone know if it's possible to run a detailed check over the TC hard drive to see if there is some directory damage which is affecting the iTunes library.
Any suggestions would really be appreciated. I do have a backup although it's not quite up to date.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated!!

Have you set a specific folder? - Normally it's your desktop.
For example: /Users/name/Desktop/D.Loads (default ends @ Desktop)
I set a specific folder on the desktop.
You can use your browser to find the path.
In FFox. > prefs. its under "Main".
    @ save files to __________________ ( choose)
Most other browsers its usually in a equivalent location, general or main.
    Hope that helps, ::tonyd::

  • Where could my missing folder on my Time Capsule be???

I have a 1TB time capsule, and I had put a few hundred movies into a folder.  Now when i open my data folder on my TC, I cannot see the folder.  When i do a quick view of the TC, it says only 140GB available, and its only backing up 2 Macbook Pro's w/very little data on them.  So i know they havent taken up all the available GBs. I am connected directly to the TC, and still nothing.  Any ideas on where my Movie folder went to???
    Thanks

You will need to use v5 utility.. on the disk page..
If you have lion you directly download it.. if ML follow these instructions to install.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. it is very simple.. drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. drill down.. applications utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall 6.1 so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. so just ignore the toyland version.. the plastic hammer.. and start using 5.6.. a real tool.

  • Have an external drive copy exactly a folder on my Time Capsule

    Hello all.
I have a Time Capsul on which I keep large folders of video content. The content on this folder changes weekly -- files added, files deleted. I keep another external hard drive as an emergency backup for this video folder, and I want to know if there is a way to have this external drive mirror what is in the Time Capsule's folder, without my usual: Delete eerything out of the external folder, copy+paste all the files for the TC. This takes a very long time.
Understand it is not as simple as just adding the newere files becuse files get deleted out fo the folder also and I want to folders to be mirror images of each other.
If anyone knows a way to set this up to happen, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I want to know if there is a way to have this external drive mirror what is in the Time Capsule's folder
Chronosync or Carbon Copy Cloner can be setup to automatically back up the file(s) from the Time Capsule to your other external drive automatically on a daily basis.
Once you have made the initial backup, then the application that you use will only back up the changes that have been made since the last backup, so these "incremental" backups should occur quickly each day.

  • What is tired inside users folder on the time capsule?

I am in the process of reformatting the HD, reinstalled Lion and now backing up stuff from time capsule. I really do not wanna back up "users" coz i think i had a problem with my profile. is that ok?

Yes, but you may want to back it up anyways. You don't have to restore it, but you may have things in it you don't want to lose such as an iTunes library.

  • Best way to share Time Capsule iTunes folder between multiple PC's & users?

We are happily using a 2T Time Capsule and Genie Timeline to back up computer files. However, our main iTunes computer is a laptop which is quickly running out of disk space. So we hope to share an iTunes directory on the Time Capsule between two pc's with multiple users.
Q#1) Does each windows user need to connect as the same Time Capsule user? Or is there a way to share a folder amongst several Time Capsule users? (We have several Time Capsule users set up, but I don't know how to configure it so one can see files created by another.)
Q#2) Once the shared directory is established and everyone can see it from both computers, is this the correct procedure:
    a) On the main iTunes pc, change the iTunes Media Folder to the shared Time Capsule folder
    b) Consolidate the library
    c) Import music files from the other pc as necessary. (Can we do this? Some are protected aac files.)
    d) Change the iTunes Media Folder on the second pc to the shared Time Capsule folder. (How do you grant permission for the other pc to use the shared iTunes Media Folder?)
Apologies if I all this has been answered already. I was unable to find it in my searches.

  • Folder that can't be used on Time Capsule

I created a folder on my time capsule that makes all icons disappear when I save to it.  I can't delete the folder because it says that the folder is in use.  I've created other folders on the TC and don't have any problem with them.  How do I get rid of the folder or make it able to save files?

DId you create the folder inside the sparsebundle??
If so just leave it alone.. I think you will mess up the backups if you play with it.. I don't understand why but you can create stuff inside the sparsebundle used by TM but cannot easily delete it.
No doubt you can do it from terminal commands with root privileges but that is beyond me.
See pondini how to delete stuff.

  • ITunes Folder on Time Capsule missing after MATCH

To Start, I will explain my set-up.  I have an Extreme, connected to my Cable Modem, in my Computer-Room, which is hardwired to my primary Mac Pro computer.  I then have the Extreme wirelessly bridged to my Time Capsule, in my Family-Room, which is hardwired to my Mac Mini, which is in turn hardwired to my TV.  I also have a Macbook Pro in the down-stairs Bed-Room, an iPad in the up-stairs Bed-Room and an iPhone in my pocket, all on the Wi Fi network.  I keep my iTunes, iPhoto, Mail, etc., data files on the Time Capsule and have links on the other devices so that each App on each Computer retrrieves the data files from the Time Capsule (only problem is that only one computer can pull the data at any given time, which is not a problem for me).  All worked great until I ran MATCH on my iTunes library.
MATCH itself seems to have worked well enough, though I did have to run it a few different times to get all the music uploaded.  My library is pretty large, so I am not real sure yet if EVERY thing got uploaded, but it appears that it did.  But afterwards I recieved errors and now my iTunes folder is missing from the Time Capusle, though the disk space appears to be still taken up.  Not only that, but I can not seem to write to the Time Capsule at all, and although I have been able to copy some of my data from the Time Capsule, some I can not.  I was able to copy the Mail folder from the Time Capsule to the Mac Mini, but I keep gettings errors when I try to open Mail on the MAc Pro, then Mail shuts down.  I downloaded all the Music from MATCH to my MacPro, but it is just the Music, not the Movies, Videos, etc..  My iPhotos will not seem to copy.
I have not figured out any way to run any kind of Disk Utilities on the Time Capsule and do not have any idea what I can do other then wipe the disk and start again.  This is a 2 TB unit and my second Time Capsule, the first was returned to Apple due to other problems.  I have never used it to do backups, just as a NAS, though I do have most of my data copied onto other drives.  I am sure I will loss some data and will spend a lot of time trying to rebuild, if I can't do something with the Time Capsule.
      Any body with any ideas?

To me, it acts like the external drive "went to sleep", but i'm pretty sure that's not the case. Nor can i find any place in Mac OS/X to control that other than the power settings, and all my hardware is set to NOT sleep.
Chances are pretty good that the "sleep" function for this drive is built-in as part of the drive's firmware and you will have little or no control over it. Most drives do incorporate this "feature."
The other odd thing is that I have a fairly extensive set of Sonos music servers around the house which access that same music drive on that same time capsule.. and it NEVER loses access to anything... could be because Sonos doesn't use the iTunes library to access the music.
As you probably are already aware, iTunes is basically composed of two parts: 1) the iTunes Library, and 2) the iTunes Media. Typically these are both stored within the user's Music folder, but they can be in totally separate locations.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think Sonos relies on the iTunes application, but instead, will access media files directly ... in this case, the iTunes Media files located on the hard drive connected to the TC.

  • I am unable to delete a backup file from my Time Capsule.  What to do?

Separately I asked for and got help here in relation to what to do with my Time Capsule when I changed computers.  I erased the contents of my Time Capsule that had been put there using my old Mac Mini and using Time Machine created a new backup of the same data that are now on my new Mac Mini.
In the process, however, I mistakenly created a backup of a large folder that I do not need.  I researched how to delete it using Time Machine and following the simple steps set forth tried a number of times, all without success, to delete the folder on my Time Capsule using Time Machine.  I go into Time Machine, I find the folder, I highlight it, I open the little widget and choose 'Delete all backups' of it, I choose 'OK' when asked if I am sure I want to do it . . . each time, though, nothing happens after that.  The folder remains there as it was, undeleted.
Can anyone suggest what I might do?
    Thank you.

Thank you for your further help, Bob.
My Mac Mini is a desktop.  I am using Mountain Lion with it, updated to the latest version.
I went back into Time Machine (and now understand what you mean about 'Star Wars' screen), and found the timeline on the extreme right edge of my computer screen, as you explained.
Despite the passage of time, I have only three 'times' expressed on the scale.  Two are purple, and represent the two times yesterday that I did backups, the original full backup and one subsequent one (I do not have Time Machine set up, now, to do automatic backups, only manual ones as I direct).  One is white and is marked 'Now'.
When I click on the white time, 'Now', for my external HD, I get a long list of items, all but one of which I do not want and tried to delete yesterday.  Interestingly, however, when I click on either of the two purple times, for yesterday, the only item that appears is the one that I want to backup.  None of the other items is there.
If the purple items are the only ones that represent actual backups, then it would seem that the deletions I did yesterday in fact worked.
If that is the case, again, there remains a bit of a puzzle as to why the 'now' position shows other items too, but if in fact that is just a glitch and does not represent anything actually saved on my Time Capsule, then there is no reason for me to be fussed, only puzzled.
Your thoughts on what I have found and tentatively concluded?
