Locked Image Files in Bridge

When I was working in Photoshop CS2 yesterday, I opened Bridge to look at some image files. I wanted to rate some of the images with color labels. Several of the image files had the "Lock" icon and would not allow me to rate the image.
I have no idea how the file got locked. I'm the only one who uses my home computer. How do I unlock the image file?

Not sure if this is the answer, but maybe the file is labeled "read only". For example files copied from CDs will always have a read-only attribute. To remove it, go to File > Properties in your file manager, and uncick the box next to "read-only."

  • Can't move image files within Bridge

I recently bought an iMac and got the CS5 license transferred over to the Mac platform. Got CS5 loaded and everything works except for one critical thing: I can no longer move image files within Bridge. When I do the right click on an image file to select that command, the command is "grey" and won't let me to choose it.  So I am forced to rearrange my image files through the Mac's Finder/Pictures feature.  Drag and drop doesn't work either.  I have looked everywhere for a setting that would allow movement of files to different folders and rearrangement within Bridge, and can't find one.  I have Bridge set as my default for photos and not the lame iPhoto program on Macs.  I previously was to be able to freely use Bridge for organizing my photos on a PC and now sorely disappointed that I can't do this with my new iMac.

I previously was to be able to freely use Bridge for organizing my photos on a PC and now sorely disappointed that I can't do this with my new iMac.
No need for disappointment because you can move all files freely within Bridge.
First check if you have read and write permissions for your files/folders/disk (try move the files using finder) If Finder allows you to drag the files to the location you previously wanted in Bridge then the problem lies in Bridge.
First select a file and with right mouse click menu choose purge cache for selection. If the problem is gone you could do so for the whole folder using menu tools/cache/purge cache for folder while having Bridge pointed to that folder.
If not restart bridge holding down option key and choose reset preferences.
    could you report back?

  • How to correct "No timestamps were found on any of the image files" in Bridge CS4?

I am trying to process a "Auto-stack Panorama/HDR" images and I keep getting the error message "No timestamps were found on any of the image files".  I don't understand what this means and how to correct the issue so I can process my images.  All of the images are .CR2 raw files, which Bridge shouldn't have issues with.
Can anyone help with correcting the issue of the timestamps?
    Thank you.

  • Locked Image Files - Adam#1

    Here's the situation....
Creating an iWeb site using the Gazette template for my college website. Everything is great until I want to change a published site on the college's non-Mac server. I can publish to my folder on the server great, but when I try to update the folder it tells me I don't have permission to trash the COLUMN DIVIDER image file in the IMAGE FOLDER. That's the only file I can't update on this PC Server.
So everytime I want to publish again...I publish to my SITE USER folder....open up my folder on the non-pc server.....physcially trash everything but the COLUMN DIVIDER file, and then copy everything around that file.....
    It works dandy, but annoying...
Any problems with that COLUMN DIVIDER creating a locked file...which it doesn't look like in the Info box?
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Adam

    Hi Adam...
Another workaround that might make your site updating life easier is to use an FTP program like Captain FTP ( http://captainftp.xdsnet.de/ ) that actually has a syncronizing function built in to the upload function. This will allow you to upload only the files that have changed in your sitefolder. And since this "column divider" image file seems to be a template file, it will always be present in your sitefolder. So once it is uploaded, it is there for good...no need to delete and upload another copy, etc.
Lots of people around here using Captain FTP for its sync function. For iWeb, I believe there is a setting that you need to disable....do a search in this forum...I think it is syncronize by date or something like that.

  • How do you make photoshop be the default program to open image files from bridge?

I just installed CS5.5 and tried to open some pictures but it keeps opening in Windows live photo gallery. I don't even see opening in photoshop as an option when I right click and scroll down to "open with" (for jpeg images). I never had this issue with CS3, bridge just automatically opened files in photoshop.
    Thanks!

I found a similar thread that might help. Let me know if it works: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/423584?tstart=0

  • Cannot open image files in PS CS3 from Bridge CS3

Cannot open file in Photoshop CS3 (10.0.1) from Bridge CS3 (2.1.1.9)
Tried choosing File>Open and double clicking the image thumbnail
Error dialogue box pops up and reads:
    Windows cannot find\C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Photoshop.exe
I wouldnt expect CS\Photoshop.exe to be found because CS3\Photoshop.exe upgrade is installed.
Will downloading the Adobe Photoshop update for Adobe Photshop CS3 (11/15/2007) or Adobe Bridge CS3 update for Adobe Bridge CS3 (11/15/2007) be my best bet for correcting this problem?

Thanks to Freeagent for pointing me to the solution.
    For fellow Windows XP user's:
Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types
It would have been nice if the Install Wizard of PS would have handled this automatically or had an advisory instruction to manually associate image files in Windows XP.
I thought all along this was a Photoshop CS3 / Bridge CS3 problem since Bridge was calling for both the image file and Photoshop.
If Freeagent has anyone's ear at Adobe please pass this on.
    Thanks Again

  • Bridge won't refresh to see image files on cards

    Bridge CS4. Win 7 Pro 64 bit
I put a card in the reader and Bridge sees the volume label but nothing else. No sub folders or image files either in the sub folders or at the root.
Pull the card out. It goes away in the folder list.
    Refresh--no help.
I have to shut down Bridge then restart it to see the card and it's contents-but ONLY if the card is in the reader when Bridge starts.
I can put the card in a different reader that's on a different USB channel and it's the same thing.
Windows Explorer will automatically refresh and see everything that's on the card. So the cards and readers are fine.
If I use Bridge's File| Get Photos from Camera import function, it sees the files just fine.
It's just that the Folder view is worthless. The ONLY way it will work is to have the card in the reader when Bridge starts.
So if I change cards, I have to shut Bridge down, swap cards, start Bridge up again. What a pain.
Is there anyway to get this thing to refresh?
    Yes, I tried F5.
I tried going to the top of folder structure and refresh.
It's just the folder view that will not update. It will not see ANY memory card that is placed into that reader until it is shut down and re-started while the card is in the reader. And it's the same problem, with different readers on different USB channels. It's definately a Bridge problem.
What's going on? Anyway to fix this.
    Thanks all.
    T.O.

    Good idea, but no dice.
I don't have it do that.
By the way, this is a clean fresh install of Win 7 Pro 64bit and Photoshop/Bridge CS4.
I built my own computers and am a fanatic about what gets installed and loads, so it's as clean as it can get with minimal junk running.
    Anyone else got any ideas.
Or, does anyone else have this problem?
Can anyone else pull cards (the same card)  in and out of the reader and Bridge does fine with seeing the images in the folder view?
    Thanks
    T.O.

  • Image files with large pixel dimensions display out of focus in a Bridge viewer?

I Create image files with pixel dimensions 2048x1365. When I display these files from Bridge on my Mac, either by pressing the space bar or in a slideshow, the images are out of focus. If I left click or click/hold and move the images slightly on screen they display in sharp focus. Unfortunately, although landscape-orientation images display correctly with no change in position or size, portrait-orientation files are enlarged and display with top and bottom off the screen. The pixel dimensions of my monitor are 2450x1600 so, yes, if portrait images are displayed at 100% they should display off screen, but this does not excuse the out of focus display of landscape files on this large screen. Nor does this explain why the portrait files are out of focus when they fit on screen. When the same files open in a Camera Raw window they are in focus. When they open in Photoshop at 100% the files are in focus.

  • No image preview in Bridge and unable to write meta data files

I recently converted my CR2 files to DNG files using the DNG converter. For the most part it worked. However, for some files, something went wrong. When I looked at a folder of newly converted dng files using Bridge, I noticed that some files didn't have a preview. These same files won't allow meta data to be written either. Are these files corrupt? What is wrong and how do I fix it? I tried to open these files in CR and they do open. Wierd thing is that if I open the file in CR, then click save file as dng, it will then show a preview in Bridge.

Yes. The original RAW file (CR2) allows me to write metadata. In fact, if I write the metadata to the CR2 file first, then convert to DNG, all the metadata is there - even for the files that at first do not have a preview in Bridge.
But the reason I'm converting to DNG is because I want my original archive files to be in a non-propriatory format.
Even though I can get around the current issues of no preview and writing metadata, my main concern is whether or not there is a problem with the conversion. I don't want to find out later that the file is corrupt. I'm worried that the issues with previewing and writing metadata are symptoms of some bigger problem.
    Any ideas?

  • Problem using Image Processor from Bridge

I have been using the Image Processor to process photos from Bridge for quite some time. However, I recently received an error message when I try to initiate Image Processor from Bridge and I have not been able to find any help topics that address my problem: I select images in Bridge to process, then click "Tools>Photoshop>Image Processor". Photoshop opens and the familiar Image Processor dialog box opens. Item 1 in the dialog box says "Process files from Bridge only" and has the number of files I have selected in parenteses. I select the file type and other settings in #3, and preferences in #4. When I click "Run", I get an error message window that says: "Script Alert. There were no source files that could be opened by Photoshop". The Image Processor works if I open the files in Photoshop first, then run it by selecting "File>Scripts>Image Processor" and tell it to process all open files.
Would someone be able to help me with this problem?
    Thanks, Larry

Usually when it worked before and not now, and you have added no new software or hardware I recommend resetting the preferences.  Hold down the Ctrl key and click on the Bridge icon to start.  You should get a reset window with 3 options.

  • I am unable to get same preview image colors in Bridge and Lightroom

I am unable to get same file preview in Bridge and Lightroom. The Lightroom preview image (in both the Library and Develop) is more de-saturated. But the exported/saved jpegs match. If I try to match the Lightroom preview image to the Bridge preview image, the resulting Lightroom  export colors are off. I have tried this with images with no changes and with changes and the result is the same. I have Lightroom 5.6 and CR 8.6. I am using the latest version of Bridge.
I contacted Adobe support and followed all instructions to try to fix but the problem remains. This comment was made after several solutions were tried, including updating Lightroom. :
Adobe: there would be little difference in case of preview of Bridge CC and Lightroom 5. However, after exporting it would be same. Both use different technology at the background and work in a different way. The preview which you see in lightroom is not the actual image but incase of Bridge you see the actual image ( original ). That's the reason there is a color variation between previews.
Me: But how can I then use the Lightroom preview to get accurate colors when processing a RAW file? If I do adjustments to the RAW file in Lightroom it looks different when exported. That doesn't seem to make sense when Lightroom is designed for photograhy
Adobe: Please check in develop module of lightroom.
Me: Nothing changes in the develop mode. The image looks the same as in the preview/Library mode.
This screenshot shows the unmodified images in Develop (Lightroom) and ACR (Bridge). The color differences are significant.
Lightroom exported jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in Develop (which looks like Bridge preview image not the Lightroom preview)
Bridge saved jpeg file, unmodified from preview image in ACR
Any suggestions on what I need to do to Lightroom to make it show accurate colors. If not, I don't see any point in using it to process files.
    Thanks, Marie

Bridge is just a browser. It displays according to the embedded color profile but assumes sRGB for all untagged images.
In Lightroom library previews use Adobe RGB and in Develop the working space is Pro Photo RGB.
The real question is why use both Bridge and Lightroom. Stick to one, not both.

  • Cannot view cr2 files in Bridge cs4 & Windows 7

I can not convert the cr2 files in cs4      nor read them with new Windows 7      Home Edition 64 bit computer

After      downloading the file, when clicking on the file in Bridge to bring it into      Photoshop I get the following message” Could not complete your request      because it is not the right kind of document”
I am      able to view the images on the media card from the camera.
I have      contacted Canon and they suggest that it’s a software issue and that I      should  go to the Adobe website and      look for Windows 7 64 updater.
I was      unable to find anything with this reference but I updated to Bridge 5.7.
After      trying to see the images after the update I was still unable to view the      images so I logged onto the Adobe Support site and was told that they no      longer support cs4.
    Any suggestions ?

Keep in mind that if your camera is newer than the last released version of Camera Raw (5.7) for Photoshop CS4, Adobe does provide a free solution for compatibility, as Curt has mentioned, through the use of the free DNG Converter application.
The way that works is this:
    1.  You get your raw images from your new camera into a folder on your computer.
    2.  You run the latest DNG Converter application and choose the folder.
    3.  It converts the entire folder full of images to .DNG files.
    4.  You open a DNG file as you would an older raw file, with your old version of Photoshop.
While the DNG Converter provides you a way to continue to use your older Photoshop software with a new camera, keep in mind that there are significant improvements in the raw converter in the latest version of Photoshop that may allow you to make better images out of your raw files if you do choose to upgrade Photoshop.

  • Can you rename files in Bridge and relink in InDesign automatically?

I have a 250+ page InDesign file with 800+ links to images.
The problem I'm having is the images have French file names.  I want to remove the French text and rename the images to English.
If I rename the images in Adobe Bridge will the Indesign links remain?
    I'm using CS5.5

    Unfortunately no.
    But fortunately there's a script!

  • Avi files causing Bridge to shut down -- why?

I just installed  the CS5 upgrade (from CS4) on my Windows 7 laptop. I also ran the latest PhotoShop updates which loaded ACR 6.3 among other updates. I needed that one in order to process ORF files from my Olympus E-5.
Now, I can see and edit the ORF files in Bridge with no problem. However, if I attempt to open an images folder that contains an .avi file created with my Olympus E-5, Bridge shuts down with a message "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working". The system looks for a fix to the problem, but naturally doesn't find one.
I'm not attempting to edit these .avi files -- they just happen to be in the same folder as my ORF images. I ended up moving the .avi files to a separate folder, and now I can open the images folder. But I don't want to have to do this every time I take .avi movies with my new camera. I download the ORF images with the .avi files from my camera at the same time.
    Any thoughts?

I have exactly the same problem and can't work out why. It seems Bridge crashes with the "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working" message every time it tries to diaply any folder containing a video file.
So if bridge is open and I try to import a mixture of pictures and videos from a memory card, Bridge crashes when it gets to importing the video file.
Likewise, if I just open Bridge and then navigate to a folder which contains a video file, it crashes when it tries to open that folder.
I have to resort to the same work-around as the previous poster and use Windows explorer to move all the video files out of the folder prior to using Bridge to view that folder.
My previous versions of Bridge did not have this problem and worked as intended. Does anybody have a solution?

  • Photoshop CS4 Extended will not open file from Bridge.

This is 2nd time this has occurred.  Last time I uninstalled CS4 and re-installed to fix it.  Prefer to not do that again.
System: XP Media center, SP3,  3 GB memory, Athlon 64x2.  Generic - motherboard graphic card.  18 GB disk space remaining.
Typical work flow is edit DNG files in Lightroom.  Once done, select DNG files in Bridge and under Tools run the Photoshop Image Processor which changes color profiles, sharpens and converts to JPEG and saves.  Done this probably a thoudand times.  Ran a batch Sunday afternoon fine.
I may have interrupted an Image Processor batch that was just starting and glitched something.
Now Bridge will open Photoshop but nothing gets imported with the Image Processor.  Also Bridge will not run a Batch.  Bridge will open Adobe Raw for editing a DNG but cannot load it into Photoshop.
Once I try any of these things, Photoshop will usually not close/exit and many menu items are shaded out.  For example, opening a file or starting a new file is not available.  Activate/Deactivate not accessible.  Can Deactivate and Activate through InDesign. Photoshop seems OK otherwise if re-started after re-boot.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you.

So far, no good.  Here is what I have done and current symptoms.
    1) I backed up all the settings and workspace files, then deleted them.  No change.
    2) No matter what I do, everytime I hold down the control, alt and delete keys when starting PS CS4 all I get is the Windows start settings "Adobe Photoshop CS4 Properties" box where you can select "Target" and "Start In" paths.  I do not get any dialog or confirmation to reset anything.
    3) Bridge successfully reset preferences using the Control key while starting it up.
Everything about Bridge has appeared to function corectly before and after these changes.  But when the Tools/Image Processor or Batch is called, it starts Photoshop OK but nothing in imported to be processed.
Photoshop opens (either from import or stand alone start) with menus partially functioning.  Under the file tab, nothign important works.  Cannot open a file, cannnot start a file, cannot exit - all grayed out.  But keyboard shortcuts do work and I can open a file or start a new file using the shortcuts.  Once I get a file open with the keyboard shortcut, most of the menu functions come back under the file tab and can be used and can exit PS.  The "X" in the upper right corner to close the program still remains greyed out and not functional.  The Activate/Deactivate options under Help remain grayed out.
    4) I deactivated the Suite from within InDesign and the I uninstalled only PS using the Windows uninstall utility.  I reinstalled PS from the CS4 Suite which of course reinstalled Bridge and some other utilities.  I reactivated from within InDesign and ran all updates from within InDesign since updates were still grayed out in PS. Encountered an error (Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Drive CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Extension Manager CS4 2.1:Failed to install.)
    Problems still exist as described.
    5) Finally I deactivated again from within InDesign and re-installed the whole CS4 Suite without uninstalling anything before hand. I noticed that process did an uninstall before each module was re-installed.
Problems still exist as described above.  I did notice that Photoshop showed itself still Activated (but grayed out) in the help menu even though I had previously deactivated the suite before the re-install.  Ran complete Updates from within Bridge.  Encountered an error (Adobe CSI CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Drive CS4 1.0.1,Adobe Extension Manager CS4 2.1:Failed to install.) but continued on. Everything else updated OK.
I looked through the registry settings for the settings path as noted in referenced forum links and all looked correct.
Additional Notes:  I installed the OnOne Plugin Suite 4 a few weeks ago.  Everything has run smothly since then until this problem poped up.  After the Uninstall/reinstall the OnOne menu option appears as normal.  As do my old Nik plug ins.  I doubt this has anything to do with the issue.
Any more ideas outside of starting all over on a clean drive/machine which I really dread even contemplating?
    Thank you.
