Locking audio together with SMPTE

Hey All,
In the prior versions of Logic I could sync up two audio tracks with SMPTE. I can not seem to figure out a way to do this anymore in Logic X. I use to get the offset by using Move Region to Original Record Position then take the resulting error message and insert it as the offset. How is that done in Logic X?

Plug the iPhone in with the Wall Charger. Then while plugged in do the Reset again, hold both Home and Power buttons until the iPhone Restarts. This usually begins to happen in less than 20 seconds time.
If you this does not work you can try to Restore the Firmware on your iPhone. If you decide to do this, connect your iPhone to your computer with iTunes open. Hold both the Home and Power buttons until the iPhone is detected by iTunes in Recovery Mode, this takes about 20 seconds time. Restore your iPhone.
If this does not work, you can try to Restore the Firmware on your iPhone in DFU Mode. Connect your iPhone to your computer with iTunes open. Hold both Home and Power buttons for exactly 10 seconds, release the Power Button and keep holding the Home Button until iTunes recognizes the iPhone in Recovery Mode, about 20 seconds more time. Restore the iPhone.
If this does not work and you have Warranty or AppleCare Coverage take your iPhone to Apple for resolution of the problem.

Lock audio and video track

If I put a video on the timeline, with no audio, then I bring in an audio file for the video, how can I "lock" them together, so I can move them around the timeline as one. I know I can just select both tracks and move them as one, but I would rather have them locked together so if I cut they are still together. Thanks!

? about "Lock Audio Clip at Playhead"

I've always thought that the purpose of this feature is to make sure that audio and video clips that need to stay synced together in fact do.
Well, I just added a short video clip to my timeline--in the middle of the movie--and it moved all the video clips to the right a bit, as it should--but not the audio clips, which were locked to their respective video!
How could this happen?

Hi folks.
Since we last posted, I have discovered something new about the misbehaving audio lock. Happily, I learned that it does work for me - most of the time. I can select the audio, choose "Lock..." and if I get a yellow pushpin on both the video and audio tracks, then they are properly locked together.
Here's the catch. Sometimes I select the audio, choose "Lock..." and the yellow pushpin only appears on the video track. In that case, they are not locked, and adding video before that pin will lose the sync with the improperly locked audio track. Also, I haven't found a way to get that single pushpin to go away. I can place the playhead there and choose "Lock..." again, but that has no effect (no toggle off and on). I can select a new place in the same audio clip and choose "Lock..." but the pin doesn't move. The only workaround I have found is to move a bit past the defective pin, do a "Split video at playhead" to create a new video track, and then select a spot in the audio clip to lock with the new video clip. The new clip will get the correct double pushpins, and the audio is really locked.
Here is a screen shot of this behavior. Notice that I have several locked audio clips, and I have not placed the locks on the first frame of the video clips. You can see a defective single pushpin on the video associated with audio clip #23. I couldn't remove that pin, so I split the video clip and was able to lock down audio clip #24. (Note: the gaps in the video are intentional - when I had to change tapes. I'll fill them in with some photos, so I have to make sure that I won't lose sync.)
What do you think about that?

Keeping a picture together with a certain paragraph of text

I think this is probably a very rookie question but I am having a problem keeping my pictures where I want them. I need them to stay together with a certain paragraphs of text.
A- "Lock position" doesn't work. I don't care where in the doc. they are as long as they stay with the right text.
B- Anchored objects don't seem to be the answer, I want to do text wraps around the picture.
All suggestions are appreciated.

No, that's not a problem, as long as the anchor is in the right place. Use a "custom" andchored object, rather than inline, and make sure the anchor is in a line ahead of the ones you want to wrap. A custom anchored object can be moved anywhere on the page and will continue to move with the anchor point.
The illustration below shows two anchored objects with text wrap applied. The anchors are the first characters in the Notes: paragraph, and the postions are set as part of an object style that includes the text wrap, font (for the caption) and position information. The anchored object options dialog dispalyed is for the caption.
In this case I didn't need to worry about wrapping the top, but pushing the image down on the page gives you this:

Question on locked audio regions

I saw a Logic 7 video a few days ago in which a locked audio region had its start point dragged to the right. This process shortened the region but left the new region with exactly the same bar/timecode position as before. I don't seem to be able to do this in Logic 9. Has this facility been removed?

...but in the video I mentioned the locked region's front end was dragged while the region was still in the arrangement window. That looked a really handy feature and I still can't work out if it's still possible in Logic 9.

Another bug? Failure to lock audio to video

I don't know if others are experiencing this, or if it is just my install...
I put a few pictures into the video, dropped a "camera click" into the audio line and locked it to the video.
But after further edits of other sections earlier in the movie, I found that the audio camera click was no longer wed to the picture. The video had moved when earlier cuts were made, but the audio apparently stayed where it was.
Anyone else get that, or just lucky me?

I've experienced some unpredictable behavior like you describe in the past with the lock audio feature.
I suggest you take a cue from the pros. Generally, final audio sweetening with effects and music isn't done until the picture is finalized and "locked".
It's usually best to resist the temptation of putting in sound effects or music until your picture editing is complete.
It's also worth noting that with iLife '06 you can now create the soundtrack of your movie in GarageBand. It's pretty cool and worth checking out.

Can I lock words together to prevent word-wrap splitting them? i.e. Mr Jones, in Word Con Alt space provides this function

That would be the Unicode Character NO-BREAK SPACE (U+00A0).
Menu > Format > Font > Show Fonts > Fonts Palette > click on gear lower left > Characters > click on gear top left > Customise List > Code Tabels > Unicode > Done
This will stick so you can find these oddball glyphs again.
You'll find the NO-BREAK-SPACE character at its address in the Latin-1 Supplement, it is the empty space next to the 00A0 click on the empty space > Add to favourites (button to the right, list to the top left)
Any time you want this in your text click in your text and double click on the glyph in the Favorites to insert it. Its invisible marker is a blue dot with a tiny carat above it.
Now that you know where/how this comes from:
You type it with option spacebar
Which being a Mac means it is universal, all applications should use this.

Audio Problems with Fast/Slow/Reverse Effect in iMovie HD

I have been having problems with the Fast/Slow/Reverse effect in iMovie HD with my movie clips. Whenever I apply the effect (reversing at the same playback speed, not sped up or slowed down), when it is finished rendering the audio is choppy, yet on time (but still backwards, as wanted). Before applying the effect, the preview of it works flawlessly, it is only when it is applied that the audio gets choppy. Extracting the audio will not help either because the video will still be playing backwards while the audio will be playing normally (since it can't be reversed on its own). I have tried other effects on the same clips that don't effect the audio and they work perfectly. Any suggestions? I'd really appreciate your help! Thanks.

Have you got an isolated hard drive with ALL of the required applications and other resources together with the operating system ? Using an external HD to SAVE a running iMovie project is asking for problems. Back up the Project on another HD sure, but don't use System on one HD, running files on another.

Is there a ceiling on # of locked audio clips?

When my current iMovie project went all hiccup and drag, I tried many of the tips suggested here including a mega-dose of maintentance -- repair permissions, CacheOutX, etc.
Nothing worked until I began deleting zeroed-out extracted audio. That restored clean sound. But the video was still twitchy. Next I installed the recent PB graphics update. That appeared to slightly improve video (but I may have imagined it).
Finally, I cleared the 85 sound effects locked to still photos. That restored smooth video.
So here's the question: I had tested the sound effect (same one, a camera click) on several video stills before locking in 85, and the tests showed no hint of trouble. So was the problem the clip itself -- downloaded free from an Internet sound site -- or the sheer volume? Is there a limit on the number of audio locks iMovie will accept?

The project is on the internal HD and backed up on externals. Since I'm relatively new to this, I've got to ask: What would be the benefit of disconnecting the externals? Is there some connection between those and the locked audio clips which apparently caused the problem?
I added the externals after the project corrupted, and was able to clean it up with them attached. What am I missing? Probably a whole lot.

Audio Quality with 2.1 update - GONE!

Has anyone else noticed that the audio quality with the iPhone after the 2.1 update has gone downhill. On several calls today I have had people on other iPhones asking for me to repeat myself, and me to them. We all got together today and it seems everyone in our little group has the same problem.
The calls I have made in the last day after the update to 2.1 are in the same area and places. Everything sounds bassy like the highs are gone. The quality is gone! When people talk I can hear a break-up (distortion) where the quality is lacking. What did Apple do to the awesome sound the iPhone 3G once had?
I would rather have a program crashing phone with great sound then what this has become.. Anyone else having the same problem? Is there something new under a secret icon on the phone that lets one fiddle with highs and lows?? Help my sound quality is gone...

I also got the same problem with voice quality. My friends cannot hear my voice clearly and always ask me repeat and repeat. One more thing, iPhone3G always pick up a lot of background noise. Because I used Motorola V9 which voice quality is better iPhone3G. I hope Apple can improve the voice quality soon, otherwise I need throw it away and use V9 again...

I wanna equalize an uploaded rhythmic audio structure with an Logic-created beat. F.e., the audio sound could be the sound of a watch having 60bpm normally, and the Logic-beat has 80bpm. How do I get both to the same bpm? Thx for any useful answer.

The MIDI data is in your Boss machine. There is no MIDI in Logic to pull audio from your drum machine. Once Logic is slaved you have three options. 1. Realtime record two tracks of audio into Logic from your drum machine. 2. If your drum machine can actually generate musical parts on independant tracks like my old Boss DR-5, then you can record separate tracks into Logic one at a time by muting all but one track for each recording. 3. You could record MIDI from your DR880 into Logic. This is the best option since you can record all channels in one pass and then edit parts in the matrix editor, where you can monitor individual notes or requantize as you see fit. Also, once the MIDI recording is complete, you no longer have to sync Logic to your drum machine. Logic will play the recorded MIDI data back through your drum machine. If you create new tracks in Logic like vocals or adding a new instrument, then you may wish to change part of the DR880 beat to complement the new recordings. You won't have this option unless you record MIDI first, edit all tracks together in Logic, and then bounce to audio after all editing is complete. When recording MIDI from your DR880, make sure you set up new external MIDI tracks in Logic. Make sure to create one track per MIDI channel coming from your BOSS.
Record arm the new MIDI tracks in Logic and then you are ready to do your MIDI recording of all tracks in one pass.

Locking audio?

I´ve been searching in the forums and apparently final cut pro doesn´t allow to lock a clip, to avoid moving it.
But this is a big issue because audio is always attached to some video clip, and any time you move this video, the sound moves with it. Is it possible to separate them and leave the audio alone?
