Locking bar for keyboard ribbon on ABook 1.33GHz logic board broken

HELP! I can't afford £400.00 for a new logic board...
Just changing the hard drive. Very careful, but locking bar for keyboard ribbon destroyed.
Anyone know what to use as a replacement/wedge - the keyboard ribbon is a "zero insertion force" item; Apple says "new logic board needed!"

if you have an ibook (I cannot tell for sure from your post), the ribbon cable can be wedged into its slot using a strip of material cut from a credit card type of plastic (here in the US we all get "fake" credit cards in the mail that I keep just for such projects - they also make good squeegees or soft scrapers).
I just cut with a good scissors, and usually try to shape it like a very wide, or fat "T" so that the bottom just fits into the cable slot, and the "T" crossbar protrudes a bit on either side outside of the top, for easy grasping, if you need to remove it. The fit of the plastic bit should be snug, but does not need to be too tight, as the ribbon is also held in place somewhat by the ram cover.
If you have a powerbook, that's another matter entirely. If the socket is broken from the logicboard, I have heard that the socket can be re-affixed to the logic board by a good electronics repair service. If the socket is broken from the cable, then a replacement keyboard would do the trick.

Would a 1.33Ghz Logic Board be a straight swap for a 1.2Ghz?

My girlfriend's 12-inch iBook has lost it's backlight and I've decided to get a new Logic Board for it. It's a 1.2Ghz, 256mb built in ram, Radeon 9200 32mb board. Could I replace it with the 1.33Ghz, built in 512mb, Radeon 9550 32mb board? They look identical from the pictures I've looked at.

The screen module is the half of the iBook that doesn't have a keyboard/trackpad They can be purchased quite cheaply, due to iBooks dying for other reasons, and people parting them out.
If the inverter has failed, things will still display on the screen, and everything will work, but you won't have any backlight, so you'll only be able to see them in really bright sunlight (ok, you live in wales, this might be hard to find or a strong flashlight pointed at the screen.

Looking for inverter pin out on G4 20" logic board side

regardless, I need a picture or detail of the inverter connector on the logic board side for an iMac G4 1.25ghz (usb2.0). I have found grainy pics on the net but nothing where I can tell what color is what pin. I need to figure out where the yellow and orange wires go. I believe yellow tells the inverter to turn o or off and the orange is for brightness control.
If anyone could help me out it would be great.

Did you have access to a service tech's view of the iMac G4 Service Manual in pdf?
Not sure if there is an image in there large enough or of the correct junction to help.
Since I haven't looked closely at the logicboard in my iMac G4s, I'm not sure what
the detail would look like. The iMac 17" 1.25 USB 2.0 is very similar in build; other
than the graphic support, display size, weight, and perhaps power supply output.
If a service manual would be of help, email me. I may be able to allow you access
for a limited time if that could help. The whole file is in pdf & is about 16.8MB, if you
have a gmail or other high-ceiling mail, someone could send just one image to you.
Well, maybe I could get a snap of the correct page if I knew what it was exactly
and did a screenshot of a portion; the actual file won't upload, a sample pg may.
I don't see a detailed image in my pdf service manual...!

How much is a logic board for mid2012 mbp a1286

my son accidentally spilled water on my mbp. I took it to the genius bar and they think it is my keyboard is bad because it won't stay on. But also while I ran the Internet diagnostics at home prior my fans ran full tilt, my battery charge light on the power supply wasn't lit, the utility said my battery had zero charge and not plugged in,also my battery charge level indicator on side of my mac won't light up. Could this be caused by the keyboard or could this be my logic board?

Wow... $310? I was thinking no higher than $100-150. I find it rediculous that Apple won't cover the charge even though it is a hardware issue. Gee I really wish this happened a year or two ago so I could have gotten it fixed for free. I'm probably not going to get it done now. I already spend $2100 on this when I bought it.

Ive repaired 1000s of laptops over the years (translate: diagnose and replace parts).
Its not that old, Ive owned 100s of laptops (most were free) ....some I still have are nearly 13 years old and still perfect, ....some extremely expensive ones died in under a year.
other than becoming obsolete at some point, there isnt really any "will spoil on" data like Milk for solid state computer parts, ....alas.
You can have a $5000 laptop die in 4 months, and a junker one keep kicking after 10 years.... Ive seen that firsthand countless times.
Common logic dictates that "very expensive = long life" in computers,..... but all the repair people will tell you just the opposite.
I know you have a gripe, I get that all too well honestly .

You could ask the Apple store to let you have (or buy) one of the boxes they use to send the displays in for repair. They should have these on hand.

I've had the logic board in my MBP 3,1 replaced twice, both covered by AppleCare. The first one was a failure which was video related, but they swore it wasn't the NVidia failure. That was almost a year ago at the end of December 2009.
The most recent logic board replacement was due to a repair tech error. I had my LCD replaced because of backlight issues and the Apple Care was within 4-5 weeks of expiring (at the end of July/early August 2010). The tech accidentally replaced the 1920x1200 LCD with a 1680x1050 one, and then they had to order the correct one as a replacement, so I had to use it with the wrong LCD. When the correct one came in, the inverter on the logic board had adjusted itself to the lower power of the 1680x1050 LCD and wouldn't power the higher res LCD properly, so they had to replace the logic board again to get it working right. ranted, that last one would have been an Apple expense had it not still been under Apple Care, since it was their error that caused the problem.
Having stated that, if your MBP only has a 1680x1050 display (or lower) you might be able to get a working logic board from someone who had the same issue as I did in August. Of course, according to the documentation I got from Apple on my repairs, the cost of the replacement logic board for my system was about $1200, so it is a bit above the $200 limit you are setting, and based on the cost I was informed, I doubt you will find a working one in your price range...

How hide ribbon bar for read only users from custom master page.

My iPhone 4S shows that I am connected to wifi, but still shows 4G and not the bars for wifi.

I have been using my iPhone 4S for one year and has been working perfectly fine until now. I connect it to wifi and it shows the blue check, showing I am supposed to be connected, but at the top, where the 4G network shows, it stays at 4G and does not show the bars for the wifi. It only connects to the one home network I have. When I am connected to the home wifi, it kicks me off the wifi everytime I put my phone on standby--> lock it after I am done using it. It also kicks me off my home wifi occasionally, when I am in the middle of using it, and have to recconect it. If I go to a store, for example, JcPenny, I try to connect it to the wifi there and it shows the blue check, and like I said, the 4G network does not change to the wifi bars. Please try to help me!

You are detecting the wifi, but not connected to it.

Additional things to try.
Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Another thing to try - Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

The next time you have the problem, note the exact times when it starts and ends: hour, minute, second.
If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

If you forgot or lost the password, all you can practically do is reset it.
The manner in which you do so depends on what version of OS X you are running. The older versions utilize the reset password utility on your recovery/re-installation disk/drive.
On Lion, you use the following technique to reset the Administrators password:
Boot to your Lion Recovery Partition, by holding down the Option key while starting, and then selecting the Recovery HD as the boot choice.
Once booted, at the top of the screen is a menu ..., select Utilities / Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, type “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A “Reset Password” window will open. Select your boot volume (your SSD drive) if it is not already selected. What's this black piece of foam on keyboard ribbon cable?

Today I upgrade my hard drive to 7200 RPM one.
When I tried to lift out the keyboard ribbon cable connector by tearing up the yellow piece of tape on top of the black foam thing on top of connector, the tape stick a portion of the black piece thing up.

Now everything is running fine, no matter with the keyboard or the system.
I'm just wondering what that piece of black foam thing is for?
Will that affect the keyboard in any way?

The scroll bar for Firefox cannot be controlled by the mouse, the only way I can scroll is with the arrow keys, help!!

I have a brand new Dell Alienware laptop running Windows 7 and I just installed the latest Firefox browser. My problem is that the scroll bar for the browser does not work when using the mouse... the mouse cannot control the scroll bar either by clicking the up or down arrow or by dragging the bar with the mouse. The only way for me to scroll using Firefox is to use the arrow keys on my keyboard.
