I want to know that is there any way to lock or hide folders in X2-01?

The Nokia X2-01 runs under S40 6th Edition, which does not allow the user to hide items on the gallery or file manager. The best way is to create a security password to protect the phone from unauthorised use.
You can create or setup a security keyguard by going to Menu> Settings> Phone> Security keyguard> Set it to ON and choose a password.

Hiding folders in linux?

I have found a very unique way of hiding folders in my university. I really really want to understand how its working and if I dont I might die of curiousity.. This is a very cool security thing for multiuser environments.
explanation:
All user folders are hidden, doesnt matter if you do ls -la or anything else, nothing shows. Until somebody changes directory into them with cd command.. Then that folder is available. and can be seen with ls..
I also noticed that all user folders are mount through nfs.
How in jesus name does that work???

i believe this is a **feature** with autofs. before we used autofs to set up nfs mounts at my school, we could see the entire home directory structure, but we moved over this summer and now only users that have been logged into that machine since the last reboot will have their home directory shown (unless of course you cd to the directory). i like this feature because on a large scale, it prevents people from knowing usernames if all user's home directories are set up as /home/username.

Question about locking certain folders w/diff.accounts?

I'm about to let my girlfriend use my Mac, so I made a seperate account for her. I just don't want her going through all of my files and " stuff ". Is there anyway to lock certain folders in my account? I tried using parental controls but didn't find the file I wanted to Lock in the options.

When your girlfriend is logged in on her account your folders are locked to her. Your Home folders are only accessible from your account.

You don't.
The password is on the encrypted disk image.
Any folders that you wish to have password protected you place in the encrypted disk image.

Ann app will not help, as no 3rd party application can affect another, so no app can lock another apps files or folders.
Apps can lock their own content, and some do include that option of putting a passcode on just them and their own files, but there is no universal feature.
If you put a passcode lock on the iPhone, then no one can get to your content.

Unless the app has some sort of passcode written into it, no, you can't lock it. You can't lock folders.
If you don't want someone using your Facebook app, you can log out of it.

Can't lock files, folders, or disks!!

I am running 10.3.9 on my old B&W G3 and I want to lock the disk and folders so that my kids don't mess anything up while playing games. When I get info for my harddrive it does not give me the option of locking, I can't even lock the disk name in and my son keeps typing nonsense in the field. I open folders and the lock option under get info is grayed out. Can anyone walk me through this?

If you are running Mac OS X, you should create an additional account for each kid. Then they can't get into anything and mess it up permanently without the Owner/Administrator password.
System Preferences > Accounts > [goofy little + sign down at the bottom]
Do NOT give them "administer this computer" rights.

Is it possible to lock individual folders in snow leopard?

can we lock each folder and set different passwords to them in snow leopard? - i have been searching the system and still cant seem to get it to work - there is an option for "lock" in the get info section, but when i hit the action preference on the bottom i get the " Are you sure you want to apply the selected owner, group, and permissions to all the enclosed items? - you cannot undo this action" message - dont seem right - anyone know any other way?

Exactly - i was looking for a simple fix , i thought with the new snow leopard, something as useful as privatizing folders at will would have been added from the file menu or something , guess not - its simple enough to create a blank disc image of the folder with disc utility - but thats not always reliable in my experience -i keep over estimating apple's abilities to give the public useful tools instead of what they think we want... if i want to watch a movie, well there are 3 different ways to do that and all right in front of me but a one click fix in keeping important information private in the event that i forget to log out at the office, well thats gonna take a bit more knowledge - ironic , any other shortcuts out there - i wonder

Locking of folders

I have certain folders the I want to lock and not be opened unless I enter a password. As I have some personal data that I do not want other people who visit my house and use my mac to either browse the internet of play music. First question is, is this possible? and secondly if I can, how do I do it?

Also, you can create aliases to the folders inside the encrypted disk image and store them anywhere on your system. When you try to access them, the system will automatically try to mount the encrypted disk image, asking for your password, and then open the actual folder.

Leopard clients on Panther Server - locked files/folders

Since I migrated my client systems to 10.5.2 I have a very annoying problem. I am running 10.3.9 server.
Every Time I create a folder on the server I am locked out as a client. Can’t even change the rights as a client! Have to go to the server and set proper rights.
If I create the Folder on the client and copy it all seems ok!?
For examole if I use my Tax program and try to make a backup within the program it automatically creates a folder on the server volume where it tries to save the copy but it can not because of missing rights.
And so on …
Any help? Thank you

I have the same problem:
In my network we have some clients: 4 PowerMac G5 with 10.5.2, and several PowerMac G4s and a PowerMac G5 with 10.4.11.
All these clients connects to an Xserve G5 with connected an Xserve RAID 1TB with some common network share.
Xserve has 10.3.9 server.
Since I updated 4 clients to Leopard, when I copy (or create) a folder to the Xserve, permission become immediately 700 (in unix style, so rwx------).
Even with [cmd]+ I cannot change its permission, I have to ssh to the server and than chmod that folder to make it available to other clients.
I tried several solutions: I thought it was something related to the global umask but it was set to 0022, so permissions should be 755 (or rwxr-xr-x).
Strangely, this didn't happen when I try to copy some files either in the share or in an existent folder.
If I try copying files or folders from a Tiger client, everything goes well.
Can anybody help me???

Locking Bookmark Folders in position

I have a very extensive list of bookmarks in the sidebar, organized in multiple layers of folders.
While moving around, I've found it far too easy to inadvertently move a folder and bury it in another folder or sub folder.
I'd like to see a "Lock Folders Position" option to prevent moving them once added and placed in position.

I have seen an extension with that feature, but I don't look for any extensions these days - I am set in my ways and really don't have room for any new extensions.

No apps can lock a app folder - some individual apps allow you to set a password to access that app, but due to iOS being sandboxed an app cannot prevent access to other apps.
