Locking iPhone via icloud doesn't work

I recently lost an iPhone 5. I went on to my iCloud account and locked the handset via the find my iPhone app. I have since discovered that it's of no consequence at all, apparently. My telco informed me that the SIM was replaced and the phone has been used since then to make calls. Hmmm - bit of misinformation I think - not the theft proof device I'd been told about.
Pity, I really enjoyed the extra performance from the new hardware...for all of three days!

@diesel vdub - I'm not sure where you read into my post that I expected an app would be digital handset theft prevention system, but, if you've used the app to locate a lost device, you'll notice that you can put a message on the screen, make the device play a very annoying sound and wipe the device. At what point would you assume that the app wasn't intended as a theft deterrent from it's capabilities? Please do go through the motions of using an app before discussing it's features and relevant merits based on your perusal of the marcoms. As someone closer to the trough when the device was first launched, I do have a very good idea of what the internal apps are intended for.
For the rest of the gentle souls who offered advice, thank you for your compassionate, sympathetic advice.
The first things I did in order were, reported the theft to the NSW (my state in Australia)Police, reported the IMEI number as belonging to a stolen device with my service providor and made certain they moved it onto the list of stolen iPhones.
My initial post was to express dismay with the apps shortcomings and to make those operating on my earlier foundation of faith aware, that reliance on the app is, in my expereince, a fruitless exercise.

No. There is no way to remotely lock your iPhone or locate it now.

Accessing my Time Capsule hard drive over the internet via iCloud doesn't work.

I have an iCloud account and read recently, that it is possible to acces the hard drive of an Time Capsule over the internet, if "Back to my Mac" is activated on my MacBook an the Time Capsule.
I updated the Time Capsule to Firmware Version 7.6.1 and the Airport Utility to version 6. Actually the Time Capsule HDD is displayes in Finder's Sidebar, when I'm using a forreign internet connection. But when I click on it an error message tells me that a connection to the server (I assume server=Time Capsule) cannot be established. Funnily enough I can access the HDD of my iMac at home.
The Time Capsule network setting is "Bridge Mode" Since I can't deactivate the DNS functionality of my router/mode, an easybox 803 A, unfortunately which I cannot replace, because it is also used for hosting the telephone.
Does anybody have an idea, where the problem could be? Wrong settings in the Time Capsule config or maybe the blocking by the router?

Please consider, that I have absolutely no idea of networking.

I don't know exactly how, but I got it working. I will try to explain, what I did.
1. I used the easybox as DHCP-Server an set the TC to Bridge Mode.
2. Then I gave the TC a fixed IP in the easbybox menu by using it's MAC-address (It seems that the address range has to be either 192.168.X.Y or 10.0.X.Y to make the TC accessable later).
3. I made the TC a DHCP-Server (DHCP only, not also NAT). The IP addess range of the TC starts after it's own IP adress (10.0.0.111) and ends at (10.0.0.250). The IP range of the easybox starts with 10.0.0.1 (it's own) and end with the TC's (10.0.0.111).
4. Then the Airport Utility told me that if I want to share an DHCP range the TC has to be set to a fixed IP setting, which I set up, leaving the IP-address 10.0.0.111 and the Router IP 10.0.0.1 (the easyboxs').
5. Then it worked in my case. Since I don't even know what I did, I'm not shure if it workes under other circumstances.
There are of course many variables. Such as the type of the router and the TC or the kind of the internet connection.

Mail sync via iCloud doesn't work

Emails I send on my iPad are not showing up in the Sent items box in Mail on my iMac at home.
I am using Gmail, and they of course show up in the Sent items mailbox there in Mail.
Any thoughts welcome.

I have all my account listed under Inbox, including iCloud and Googlemail. The latter is POP, and the 'sent' messages appear only on the Mac from which they were sent as this is a local mailbox. The iCloud 'Sent' mailbox is actually store on the iCloud server and read from there, so that sent message appear on all devices, because iCloud is IMAP whereas my Google account is POP. If you want 'syncing' of sent messages you have to use IMAP.
It appears Gmail does offer IMAP - I'm not sure whether you have to request this or whether it's just a question of different settings. You could start with this Help page:

icloud just keeps bringing up my old email address & asking for my old password which doesn't exist anymore and when I try to sign out of icloud it wants my old password, when I tried to change my primary email back to the old one it wants me to verify it through an email address that doesn't exist. Please can you help me sort out this nightmare.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you updated your Apple Id and password but now you are being prompted for the old information in iCloud. You are on the right track by changing the Apple ID back to the previous email address temporarily so that you can sign out. You should not need to verify the email address. After you edit the Apple ID back to the old email address and then sign out of iCloud on your iPhone, edit the Apple ID back to the address you would currently like to use. There is no need to change the password again, only the email address, unless you prefer to update the password again.

Change your Apple ID temporarily
If signing out and back in to iMessage or FaceTime didn't help, try these steps:
Change your Apple ID to the Apple ID you used previously. You shouldn't need to verify the email address.
Tap Settings > iCloud. Complete these steps only if the Find My [Device] setting is turned on:
Scroll down and tap Sign Out, then tap Sign Out to confirm. If you're using iOS 7 or earlier, tap Delete Account, then tap Delete to confirm.
Tap Keep on My [Device] or Delete from My [Device]. In either case, your data remains in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.
Enter the password for your previous Apple ID.
Change your Apple ID to the new email address that you want to use. You'll need to verify the email address.
Return to Settings > iCloud and sign in with your new Apple ID.

WHat kind of disk? If they are on a CD or DVD you can not modify them - they are read only
How exactly did you burn them to disk? what version of iPhoto do you have?

I've changed my ID mail and now iCloud doesn't work. Everything is working, even if I access to iCloud from Safari (with my new ID) but i have the problem on my iPhone and iPad.
It keeps asking my password and the mail is the one i had before, it's like it didn't change. I've tried both passwords, old and new and no solution. I've changed twice the password thinking it would be the problem and still isn't working.
So now I can't do anything because there's no password to access so i can't even delete my iCloud account.
Is there anything i can do to make it work? It's weird that everything works except this.

Alright, please follow these steps in order to get it working properly again.
Please change your Apple ID back to your old email address (that you used as Apple ID before) here: http://appleid.apple.com
Then go to all your devices - iPhones, iPads, Mac etc. - ("Settings > iCloud") and delete your iCloud account from this devices (+ turn off Find My iPhone, but I guess it will ask you that anyway)
After that go back to http://appleid.apple.com sign in again, and now change your Apple ID again to your new email address.
Finally, set up your iCloud account on all your devices again.
Now, everything should working properly again.

This was EXACTLY what I needed about the purchases I made from my device. However, is there a way to re-download other ones you've made from a computer? Because I realized some of them were not just purchased from my device.

As you can see, the stuff circled in red doesn't give me an option to download from Cloud Beta because it already says "downloaded".

Back up on iCloud doesn't work...

I tried several times to back up my iphone, but it doesn't work... the space on iCloud is enough and the back up begins but and it seems to go on well but before the end it stops and says "it's impossible to complete the back up"... why???

Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add

But when I am using the skype and viber to talk to other people they can hear me perfectly. and also when I record my voice it sounds good i can hear my voice.. i dont know what is wrong with my phone?

I get trying to unlock it and it finally accepted the 4 digit PIN number on my SIM Card, which it wasnt accepting before (there is also a super PIN number, which i dont know whats for). And now it says "no service". I am reseting the phone and sometimes it just says "no service" and other times the SIM Card is locked again and it doesn't accept the PIN number anymore...

This is regardless of whether I am in a good Wi-Fi zone or not. I like to use Find My iPhone to remotely track my battery charging status whenever my phone is charging in a different room. That's been really handy, which is why I really need to get this fixed. No matter what computer I use, the problem is always the same.

You don't need to update to iOS 8 to use Find My iPhone. If you haven't already tried, go to Settings>iCloud>Find My iPhone and turn it off, then reset your phone (hold the sleep/wake and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release). After it restarts, turn Find My iPhone back on and see if it works properly now.

Settings>Store...tap the ID shown...sign out...sign back in with the ID you want to use.
Note: Apps are forever tied to the Apple ID used to originally obtain them. They cannot be updated using any other Apple ID other than the one they were originally obtained with.
