Locking up Two Macs with Logic?

If you have Logic on one Mac, and Pro Tools on the other, and you want to sequence and write in Logic but record in Pro Tools, how would one do this?
Thanks for any info
Tom

X: Basically, Justin has given the info on LAN MIDI.Regarding the hardware route: just think of the slave computers as hardware synths, and you're near the mark. For example, on my DP 2.0 I run a single MOTU MIDI Express, giving me 8 ports. That is then connected to one of my AMT 8's.The only problem with that is V-Stack is capable of supporting 16x16,so to take full advantage, you'd have to double the number of MIDI interfaces. So,for that one computer alone you would require 4 MIDI interfaces. That's when hardware starts to become unwieldy. And expensive. I have five AMT/Unitors and a MOTU, but really don't wish to acquire more;so I'm going to take a look at MIDI over LAN. Maybe the answer is a hybrid configuration.
Regarding getting the sound out. Each slave computer has a soundcard: in my case the excellent Hammerfalls. I take the ADATs out of those into the Quad's rig of MOTU's. The audio i/o's on each are freely configurable in both the Hammerfall's software and the V-Stack's/Kore's and all other standalone instruments. It's way, way more powerful and flexible than the node method.
Hope this helps.

  • Anyone Running Two Macs with Logic?

Just wondering how much time it saves and more power it gives...I have a Dual 2G and was thinking of one of the new Intels and using OSX's built in networking, with adat out of the second Mac back to my Fireface.
I'm just trying to get a handle on how much help this would be to me, DSP wise, etc. I know I could put some of the VSL library on it, or whatever...
I'm also a little confused about whether doing it like this is different than using the LOGIC node thing, and if so, which would help me more. I tend to use a lot of plug ins, some of which aren't LOGIC's.
    Thanks

  • Can connect two Macs with USB2 cable?

Can connect two Macs with USB2 cable?

You can connect two Macs with an ethernet wire, or conect two Macs using Firewire if one is placed in target disk mode, but that is it.

  • Burn project to edit on another mac with logic

can i burn my track i have made on my mac with logic express 7 and put it on another mac running the same and finish it off on that? also how do i burn my project as an audio cd?

Absolutely. Find where your Logic project is stored (mine is Music/Logic) and then grab the whole folder and burn it to CD. Copy it to another computer, and open the .lso file. Burning your audio files to CD can be done through iTunes, or select the burn option when you bounce. Best, Fred

  • Using two macs with one copy of LE8?

Hi, I've got a copy of logic express 8 installed on my iMac, and wanted to use it on my dad's Macbook so that I can use it at practices/live etc. but it only comes with one license number, so when I try and install it on the macbook it says it's already registered. Is there any way over this?

    Hi,
normally, it is possible to use the License Key twice (on two Macs). That's what the license says. If it isn't possible, i'd suggest to phone apple for support.

  • Using two monitors with Logic

I've never used two screens before, so can someone please answer these basic questions?
With LE and Logic Pro, can you have whatever window you like on each monitor - for example Arrange window on one and a score editor on the other? Or is it limited to certain combinations?
And if you've got the mouse cursor on one screen, how does the cursor get to the other screen? Key combination or just push the mouse further across?
    Hope someoen can help!

    Hi Robin
I´ve been using 2 monitors for several years now, and it´s very nice with logic pro. I can´t live without it anymore.
You can use whatever windows in combination to build different screensets. Think of it as it´s one big desktop. When you move the curser near the border off one monitor it pops up on the other. Go for it, you wont regreat it.
    nice regards

  • Sharing between two macs with one user account?

Is it possible to connect two macs to share documents and music if they are both logged into the same user account?
I recently bought a Mac Mini and when setting it up, I transferred everything from my Macbook Pro to it, including my user profile which I now also use on the Mini.
Since setting up the Mini, I've been using both machines so the content on both is no longer identical. There have been occassions where I have wanted to transfer something from the MBP to the Mini or vice-versa over wi-fi and have encountered problems. I suspect this is because I am using the same user account and they get confused.
I don't need the two macs to be identical in their content, however there are times when I want to share or quickly transfer music, documents or Garageband files from one to another. Would I be better off setting up different profiles for the Mini and the MBP to achieve this? Is there a better way to do what I'm trying to do?

Could you please explain, what kind of problems exactly you encountered? Error messages? Corrupted files? And why do you think the problem is caused by the same user profiles?
Like markwmsn I have no problem with sharing using the same account name on all my macs. Only since upgrading to Mt. Lion I usually use AirDrop to send single files. That saves the trouble to copy the files to a public folder.
Do both your macs support Air Drop?

  • Sharing a hard drive between two Macs with Time Machine

can I use the same hard drive to back up two different Macs with Time machine? I'm ok with hot swapping the cables.

Yes, but TM, Leopard and external drives are not OK with hot-swapping. Never unplug a drive without properly ejecting it first.
Each computer will have it's own backup folder on the drive and each computer will recognize its own backup folder. There is no limit other than HD space on how many computers can be backed up on an external drive.

  • Question on Sound forge pro mac with Logic.

    Hello,
I would liketo know if the plug-ins that come with Sound forge pro Mac could be used with Logic directly like using 3rd party plugins.SF has a whooe bunch of plugins but wil be able to use those plug ins ,like EQ ,Exciter, etc as induvidual plugins on a Logic project without having to export the wav file into Sound Forge?

The answer is No if it's anything like the PC version. The plugins are proprietary and only usable in Sound Forge, just as Logic's are only usable in Logic.
However, I don't know this ti be 100%, true.

  • Syncronize two Macs with iTunes

    Hi people,
anybody here, who knows if it is possible to synchronize the songs and playlists in iTunes on two Macs? I have a Power Mac G5 running in my office (sometimes downloading songs here) and an iBook G4 (sometimes downloading there) and it really annoys me, to make a TextEdit file or anything to copy the downloaded songs manually. Is there a feature who provides that kind of Synchronization?

    Dirk:
Unfortunately, there isn't an automatic way to sync your two library.
If it's just a matter of capturing music and playlists that you've added, you can always export either the specific playlists (iTunes>>File>>Export Song List) or the entire iTunes Library (iTunes>>File>>Export Library) to .xml files, then transfer them (by email or network connection) to the other computer, and bring them into iTunes via the Import command (iTunes>>File>>Import).
If you want to sync up your metadata (playcounts, date played, etc), there isn't anything that will merge the contents of the two libraries into a single unified file.

  • I get an error when I try to download or update apps in CC. Problem on two Macs, with two accounts. Any issues?

Anyone had experience of this issue?
I haven't been able to download or update any CC apps since last night.
I have 2 macs, with different CC accounts. They are on the same network and I tried taking a machine off the network and using wifi but problem remained.

  • Using the same photos on two Macs with iPhoto'09

    Hi there,
I took a few hundred of photos during my vacation and imported them into iPhoto on my MacBook Pro (10.6.1). Now I would like to have these pictures on my MacPro, too - but all the photoinfos, places etc. should be preserved. How can I do that? Does the "export"-command work? I took the photos in RAW and would like to export them in RAW.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Stefan

The only way to do this is to link the two Macs together and use iPhoto Library Manager to move the files plus the associated metadata and versions between Libraries.
If you want to export the Raw files then you will not get the Metadata You have added in iPhoto. To get to the Raw you'll need to export the Kind as Original, and this is not part of the Original file.

  • One 30" Apple Monitor shared between two Macs with a switcher Possible ?

I have a G5 Dual processor and a new Pro mac. I was thinking of having two 30'' monitors with the new pro but would love to know if its possible to share one of these monitors with the old G5 via some sort of switch box ? - The G5 will be set up as a node for Logic and at odd times as a stand a lone machine so It would be good to have the option of using one of the two monitors . ( I don't have desk space for a third monitor ) -- what's the story ?

Yes. Look for a dual-link DVI switch or KVM, such as
