Locking Wifi access on Ipad

I'm planning on using a few Ipads in my classroom but one concern I have is that they can access the wireless info. Most of my student wouldn't know where to look for the info but some are tech savy enough to find it and exploit it. Is there a way to prevent them from being able to view the wifi info in the settings? I looked in the parental controls and haven't been able to find anything.  Any help would be huge.  Thanks

If there is a router in the room or you have access to the router, set up the "Guest" network and use that.
Keep your Ipad on the main wifi connection.
Use security on the main wifi and dont give that info to them.
The "Guest" wifi also setup security and only give that to your students. This info will work its way around but change it once a week, month or when a new class comes in. You also can restrict the guest network and allow a certain amount of connections (24 students in class - 24 connections)
Hope that helps, if not its something to look at.
Good luck

During the setup of iOS 7 which you went through after installation it asked if you wished to create a passcode. It is possible to skip setting up a passcode at this step but you must have created one.
If you can't remember the passcode and you have enabled "find my iPad" you can use http://www.icloud.com/ to remote erase your iPad, then you can set it up again, and restore it from an iCloud backup.

  • Ipad wifi access via Macbook Pro?

I do not have a wireless router at the moment to access wifi for my iPad,however I remember using wifi via settings in my Macbook pro.I was able to use the iPad internet through this.Someone helped me with this but it's been a while & I don't remember. Can someone show me the steps to this please.
    Thanks.

You need to use Internet Sharing in the System Preferences of the Mac. It is a little bit different depending on which OS X version you are running. I still use it with an iMac running 10.4.11. In fact, I am using it now.
This should get you pretty close.

  • When I try to upgrade and install to iOS 5.1, error message prompt "operation stop running". I have tried several time but failed. Also, would like to know why always need to have wifi access in order to upgrade the version of iPad iOS, why not 3G ?

When I try to upgrade and install to iOS 5.1, error message prompt "operation stop running". I have tried several time but failed. Also, would like to know why always need to have wifi access in order to upgrade the version of iPad iOS, what is the purpose of 3G then? This is really nonsense using wifi + 3G iPad. need help ! Thanks.

The file is too large to download via 3G. There is a 20MB limit with 3G. The purpose of having 3G is that you have internet access everywhere and do not need to be near a WiFi hotspot or network.
Not every single thing that you do every single minute of the day on the iPad involves downloading files larger than 20MB. You can surf the internet all day long sitting out in a park somewhere with 3G - but not with a WiFi only iPad - unless you use a hotspot with it.
Try turning off your firewall and anti virus software while you try to download the iOS update.

  • Move a document from an iPad to a Mac without WiFi access?

Any way to move a document from an iPad to a Mac without WiFi access?
The GoFlex Satellite and the Hypershop iFlashDisk seem to only allow document transfer documents from the Mac to the device, not vice versa.
    Any experience with other methods?
    Thanks
    Ji

    That's great news!
I don't yet own iFlashDisk, but was considering - after I discovered GoFlex Satellite would not support iPad to Mac transfers.
I'm still investigating the DiskAid & FileApp Pro - will undoubtedly give them a try to see how it works.
    Thanks

  • Wifi access for short trip needed.  Was told by Verizon that my iPad (was a gift) is not Verizon enabled.  So, how do I go about getting WiFi access -- I only need it for about 2 weeks.  Would be glad to pay for a month.

Was gifted with an iPad2.  Do not have Internet service connected to it.  Would like to purchase WIFi access for an upcoming trip.  Am a Verizon phone customer, but was told that my iPad is not a Verizon enabled iPad.  So, what should I do now?  Am aware of free Wifi access in many places, but I want to be sure to have constant access and hope some of you can teach me.  Thanks!

To use wifi you just need access to a wifi network (and it's password if the network is password protected). If you want to be able to get online when you don't have access to a wifi network then if you have a iPhone you might be able to use that and it's network as a personal hotspot for the iPad (if your carrier supports it), or you can get mifi devices which take sim cards (and therefore also use a cellular network) and which act as mobile hotspots - for either of those to work you would need to be in area that is covered by the phone's/mifi's network

  • I want to restrict wifi access to my kids' ipad.  How do I go about it?

Both my kids have saved their money to buy ipads.  I however want to restrict their wifi access so they do not stay up too late.  They are tweens.  How do I go about it?

You can restrict Safari, and restrict installing apps so they cannot download an alternate web browser, however you cannot set time limits. But even if you restricted Wi-Fi access there's nothing preventing them from staying up late playing games on it.

  • Should I use screen lock with find my iPad.

Im using a wifi only iPad, so if it is lost or stolen the finder or thief will need to be able to access my iPad and connect to a wifi signal before I can track it. I therefore think I should not use keypad lock so that I can allow them

You don't have to use one, it's personal preference as to whether you use one or not - I use one on my iPad Mini as I prefer the feel of them compared to the glass screen, other people don't like or use them as they prefer the glass (and some screen protectors can affect the clarity of the screen). Depending upon where you will be using the iPad (e.g. if it's dusty or dirty) you may want one to give the screen a bit of extra protection.

  • Roaming between two WiFi access points fails

    Hi...
I just bought a Hawking WiFi range extender...a device that acts like a second wireless access point for rooms that are far from your wireless router. It's also known as a repeater. It has the same SSID (network name) as the one set up by the router.
You are supposed to be able to move about the house and you will connect to whichever device has the higher signal strength, transparently, with no hiccups, like moving your cell phone from one cell antenna to another.
The setup works fine with my Dell laptop, but not with my MacBook Pro or my iPad. When I change "zones", the Network locks up. This is repeatable and consistent.
I've heard rumors about Apple product difficulties with this "WiFi roaming."
    Can anyone help?
    Thx
    Steve

I've been using a roaming setup in my home for years.  The company I work for has building wide WiFi roaming setup with multiple WiFi access points on each floor.  At home and at work, I frequently move my MacBook between access points without loosing things like my VPN, Screen Sharing, File Sharing, ssh terminal sessions, etc....
But 3rd party networking hardware has not always been well tested against Apple products.  Many times 3rd party networking vendors test against some version of Windows and then ship it.  Sometimes the 3rd party vendor offers a firmware update that corrects issues with Apple products.
At home I have Apple Airport Extreme base stations for my roaming setup.  At work, the company is using Cisco commercial WiFi access points.
A roaming setup needs to have all WiFi devices on the same network "Subnet".  That means a 2nd WiFi base station cannot act as a router, but must be just a bridge on the existing router's subnet (generally that means it cannot be offering DHCP services nor NAT services).
The 2nd WiFi base station must have the same SSID (as you said you setup).
And it must have the same security password using the same encryption algorithm (WPA2 preferred from a security stand point).  You did not mention this, but I'll assume you did this as well.

  • I am locked out of my ipad and didnt set a password

A physical attempt was made to access my ipad and after 10 unsuccessful attempt to gain access it locked the unauthorized user out of my ipad.  Now i can't get on nor use my ipad.   what can i do?

You must restore the device with iTunes on a computer. You want to use the same computer that you always sync with so that you can restore your app data and settings. You can restore with any other computer, but you will lose everything on the iPad.
    Instructions can be found here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1212
You will probably need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4097
    Recovery Mode Instructions
Disconnect the USB cable from the iPad, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
Turn off iPad: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for iPad to turn off.
If you cannot turn off iPad using the slider, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the iPad turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to iPad. When you reconnect the USB cable, iPad should power on.
Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears you can release the Home button.
If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the recovery mode alert that iTunes has detected an iPad in recovery mode.
    Use iTunes to restore iPad.
