Lockscreen bug in 10.6.8

Not sure if anyone else can replicate this but I think I have found a bug on the locksreen of SL 10.6.8.  If I lock the screen by scrolling to the corner (with Expose) and I have a password and lock on my account and I type it in correctly then everything works as it should.  If I type in my password or name incorrectly then it says there is an error and doesn't let me in like it should.  But, it I type in my correct account name and password but don't have the capital at the beginning of the account name then the screen goes black again and it locks and when moving the mouse the computer is locked again?
To explain better:
Account name corret + password correct = fine
E.g.
Dean
test
Account name or password wrong = error and won't log me in
E.g.
Desdof
test
or
Dean
sgfjdk
Account name without capital and password correct = bug
E.g.
dean
test
Can anyone else replicate this?

Just a thought, and it may not apply here... but - I've seen timeouts with Macs and NFS servers (I have experience with Isilon) when a Mac attempts to delete a large file.  The Mac times out waiting for confirmation from the server that the file has been deleted.  There are ways to change the NFS timeouts on the Mac to make it less likely it'll hit a timeout.  Or, the Isilon can be upgraded to OneFS 6.5 or later, which can return the delete confirmation much faster to the client.
The default timeouts on the Mac for a unresponsive NFS mount are controlled via a couple of options in /etc/nfs.conf.  From the nfs.conf man page...
     nfs.client.initialdowndelay
When an NFS server is not responding, this option specifies how
long to wait (in seconds) before the initial notification is
posted.  The default is 12 seconds.
     nfs.client.nextdowndelay
When an NFS server is not responding, this option specifies how
long to wait (in seconds) between notifications.  The default is
              30 seconds.
So basically, if you change the initialdowndelay value (increase it from 12), it's possible you'll end up avoiding the timeout message.  Alternatively, upgrading OneFS may be a better option as it won't require going around to all of your Macs, making these config changes.

  • [IMPORTANT] LED BUG & LOCKSCREEN BUG - Update is coming!

    Hello Community!
I have some great news for you!
I recently spoke with a customer service representative from Sony and he has assured me that Sony is aware of the problems.
There will be both fixed, the lockscreen notifications AND the notification LED (for SMS and WhatsApp, etc.)!
The update will be rolled out within the next 2 to 3 weeks.
This is valid at least for Germany But I think that everyone else will get the update to a similar time!
I hope I could help you with this message.
Below is the original message history (in German):
    Me:
    Sehr geehrter Kundensupport,
Me:  Das hört sich gut an! Werden damit beide genannte Probleme behoben?
S***:  Ja, beide Probleme werden mit dem kommenden Update behoben werden.
Me:  Klasse, das freut mich. Können Sie mir / uns einen ungefähren Zeitraum nenne, wann das Update ausgerollt wird?
S***:  Ich gee davon aus, dass das Update in den nächsten 2 Wochen ausgeliefert werden sollte.

awesome news, do you think they can comment on this?
Sony agreed to 18months updates after the release day, is Sony keeping their word?

  • IPad Cloud Backup/Lockscreen bug

    Hi
I had been away from home for a while and hadn't used my iPad on Wifi for a few weeks. Upon getting back home and opening the cover, I was presented with a dialog saying
    iCloud Backup
This iPad hasn't been backed up in
    4 weeks. Backups happen when
this iPad is plugged in, locked, and
    connected to Wi-Fi.
    <OK>
Fair enough, but the funny thing was, clicking OK, didn't do anything! the dialog remained on the screen, and I couldn't access any apps. Closing the smart cover just meant that when I opened, the dialog was still there. Locking the screen physically resulted in the "Swipe to unlock" being unavailable, and the same if I tried to power off the iPad. In the end I had to force-reset the iPad to fix it! I filmed the problem, video is here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9436839/IMG_1549.MOV
has anyone else seen this problem?

Wasn't using a mobile device to access me.com, or Safari.  I am using the *same* ID/password that my iPad was using - the same one (the only one I've ever had) on iTunes too.  I am 100% sure it backed it up - it completed the iCloud initial backup process without an error message, then I went back later in the day and looked at "Last backed up: 8:37am", which was the time I completed the backup process.  I checked the amount of space the backup consumed, and it wasn't much, but was something like half a gigabyte, leaving me with about 4.5gb of iCloud storage space remaining.  All of it seemed to be extremely indicative of actually backing up the iPad.  So at that point, instead of backing up a second time, I went ahead with the factory reset on the device and turned it back into the school when that was done.
Now I am getting no other options on this brand new (bought from Apple.com) iPad to restore from iCloud backup.  This blasted me.com message is all I see.   I tried entering in a wrong email into the login/password, and the error message came up there (where it did not give an error message when I logged in with the correct login/password), which seems to tell me the login/password are not the problem.
This is really enfuriating.  I followed apple's rules for using iCloud as a backup, bought a brand new product of theirs, and now none of it is working and I seem to be at risk of losing my backed up photos and programs and settings from the old iPad.  Really not pleased with this purchase at this point and need more help.  Is there an official place I can call or go besides here?

  • IOS 5.1.1 Call Bug

    Vid of incoming call/lockscreen bug:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DN6NgQEbH4s
To reproduce the bug you will need:
    1) Wait for incoming call
    2) Wait for the screen to turn off
    3) Press a volume button (+ or -)
    4) Slide to unlock

    There is no Apple button.
There is a home button, power button, mute switch and volume up/down buttons.
Which of those are you actually pressing?

  • Previous/back button for lock screen (Android)

I would like to see a previous song button on the lock screen of Android. I dislike having to unlock my phone just to start a song over or to get back to another.

I didn't do anything specifically, as far as I can remember, other than installing the Spotify app. Of course, these controls do not show up unless I already opened the app beforehand and started playing a song. Once it's already playing, then the controls appear after locking the screen. I even changed my security because I had pattern unlock and changed it to PIN in order to take the screenshot I posted above. But in both security modes (pattern/pin) I can see the controls. My only guess is that it could be something related to the phone model itself. I have a Samsung E7, which has a large screen. I don't know the size of the Sony z3, and I don't have an smaller phone at hand at the moment to test. If this is the issue, then it can be more of a phone model related bug. I'll attach some links with some information that could be helpful for you. Pay close attention to the last one, as it seemed that it was the solution for most of the users. On this link there are several suggestions of apps that may be preventing the music controls to show up in the lock screen. Maybe one of those could help?http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/help/lock-screen-music-controls-disappear-t2514983 Some mention that uninstalling smart key fixed the issue."I just had this problem on my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. Disabling Smartkey did the trick. Thanks so much guys! I have a feeling fixing this might not be high on Sony's priority list." http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Z1s/Problem-with-Music-widget-on-lockscreen-bug/td-p/382277/page/5   I hope it works out for you!

  • IPhone 5s lockscreen / photo app bug

I have noticed a reproducible bug that occurs on the lockscreen of my iphone 5s running ios 7.0.2. Here is a picture of the bug occuring on my lockscreen. It occurs as follows:
I wake the phone up to the lockscreen,
Next, I slide the camera icon up and press the camera roll square in the bottom left corner of the camera app,
Then, while still in the camera roll section of the camera app, I put the phone back to sleep,
The next time i wake my phone up from sleep I see this lockscreen.
Has anyone else experienced this as well? I want to make sure apple is aware so they can fix it in a software update.

I found a way to reverse to the keyboard with the normal size thanks to the post of Skemez1 above.
The bug is produced when you activate the camera from the lock screen and that you take a picture in landscape mode. Therefore when the keyboard appears zoomed in the lock screen, do this in order to get back to  the normal size:
    - activate again the camera from the lock screen,
    - put the phone in portrait mode. You might have to first swerve to landscape, but do end with portrait.
    - press the sleep button
It worked for me. The bug is still there, but at least I know how to get back to the normal keyboard.
This means that actually you should routinely avoid to press the sleep button when your camera is in landscape.
    Hope it works for you.

  • Minor UI bug when using camera from lockscreen

    Hi
I'm not soure where to send this, but I found a bug with the use of camera from the lockscreen.
    OS: Windows Phone 8
    OS version: 8.0.10211.204
    Phone: NOKIA Lumia 620
    Phone firmware: 1030.6407.1308.0006
    Description:
If I have activated the camera with the camerabutton when the phone is locked, the background on the keypad is always dark next time I try to unlock the phone. My theme background is set to light. Only the keypad background is dark - if I use the volumebutton the "volume indicator" background is light.
It only happens after I have activated the camera using the camerabutton when the phone is locked.
My phone is protected with pincode.
Can anyone reproduce the bug on their phone?
    Regards
    Brian Overby

It's been my experience, throughout my 36 year career in computer engineering, that RAM tests almost always succeed even when the RAM has intermittent errors.
Do you have ECC (error correcting) RAM?  A system set up to use ECC RAM and with ECC RAM installed will correct some errors as it runs, and will halt and immediately tell you when an uncorrectable RAM error has occurred - which is FAR better than trying to forge ahead with bad data (which will ultimately crash it somewhere).  RAM errors happen more often than you'd think, probably because it's the one piece of technology being pushed right to the blistering limits in most computers.  Even if the chance of a RAM error is one in a billion, keep in mind that literally billions of RAM reads and writes happen every second.
Every future computer system I'll have will have ECC RAM, as do my current ones.

  • Android 4.4.2 KitKat - Bugs - VPN problem/lockscreen options not working/Walkman Shake not working

With the new KitKat update (20.1.A.0.47) trying to open VPN from Settings, the Settings app crashes and restarts. Due to that, in Security, the None and Swipe lockscreen options are disabled, leaving PIN, Password, and Pattern the only options. Why is that / is it ever gonna be fixed?
Oh and it didn't happen on 4.3... Now, when a music is playing in Walkman, when pressing the Walkman button and shaking the phone as I did on JB will pause the song, as if I didn't shake the phone. On Jelly Bean, this feature worked. This should get fixed too.

Hi guys, sony seems to have solved the problem in an update in...india. I only found that and not tested yet : http://www.xperiablog.net/2015/05/22/small-update-rolling-for-xperia-e1-20-1-a-2-19-and-e1-dual-20-1-b-2-29/ It solves the lockscreen and VPN problem. Test and say if it works or not. I hope they will relase an european version soon.

  • List of iOS 6 bugs for iPhone 4s

Ever since I updated my iPhone 4s to iOS 6, there have been some unfixed bugs and some new ones.
Where do we direct these bugs to? Is it to this forum? I just want to reach out to Apple so that these bugs can be looked at and be fixed. Lets all share our bugs in an orderly fashion so someone from the Apple's engineering department can have a look and study them.
    1. Lock screen bug
Sometimes, when you try to swipe to unlock the slider goes right up to the middle and goes back to the start making you stuck there.
Same issue when you receive notifications in your lockscreen, you cant swipe all the way.
    Temporary solution:
Press power/lock button once to turn of screen, and press it again to turn it back on. The slide to unlock slider can go all the way through.
    2. Screen not turning off/dim
At some rare occasions the when at homescreen, the backlight doesnt dim nor does the phone locks itself. It remains active and drains your battery. This issue does not seem to persist in applications for me.
    Temporary solution:
Lock manually, dont wait for it to autolock to prevent battery drain.
    3. Battery drain?
I dont seem to experience any battery draining issues in my iPhone 4s. My usage is pretty random. Sometimes, I can be really active. Whereas sometimes, I can use very little. But nevertheless, the iPhone is able to last throughout the day (at least from morning till night) so I can make it in time to charge it for tomorrow's use.
However, I am the only one who is okay with it. And I noticed for me that my battery is able to last longer somehow. I have other friends using iPhone 4s also which experienced serious battery drains after updating.
    Status of phone (Mine):
    3G on
    Bluetooth off
Never closed apps, only turned off navi apps such as Waze
    10.3GB storage free
Vibration off, vibration on only on silent
Phone signal in 3G always in 4 - 5 bar
Result: Battery lasts at least a day
    Status of phone (friend):
    3G off, Edge on
    Bluetooth off
Never closed apps, no navi apps were used
    9.2GB storage free
    Vibration off
Phone signal always in 5 bar
Result: Battery lasts half a day (Ever since iOS6 update)
What have I tried so far?
    1. Restore from iTunes
    2. Turning off autolock, and switching it back on
    What have I not tried?
    1. Clean restore : I am trying to avoid this because, my backup contains important info such as over 300 phone numbers. If only Apple allowed "selective restore". I just cant loose those phone numbers.
As you can see, comparing two iPhones with almost similar parameters showed inconsistent results. Even when the phone has sufficient signal the battery drain is inconsistent.
Thats all for now. If anyone else wants to share their bugs, feel free to do so in this thread.

    Thank you for responding,
The router I am using is a Linksys, we also tried disconnecting that one and connecting the netgear router we have. The security method is WEP I believe, although I could be wrong.
No one else is having issues with their WiFi, just me.  All the laptops are connecting wirelessly, the 2 tablets we have are connecting perfectly fine and all cell phones are connecting.

  • Can't open Control Center on the Lockscreen after using Siri

    Hello everyone,
I have got a little bug since iOS 8 and still be there in iOS 8.1 on my iPhone 5S (32Go).
After requesting Siri something and get back to the lockscreen, i can't open the Control Center but I can still open Notification Center. After lock my phone and turn it on, I can open again the Control Center.
Is there someone else with this little bug ?
    Thanks you all
    Bye

No, I do not. I even tested it as soon as I saw your post. With the phone locked, I asked Siri to do something, after tapping to close it, it went back to the lock screen, I swiped upwards and Control Center came right up. Are you swiping from off the screen slightly when you start?
If a restart and reset have not fixed it, then the next two steps in user troubleshooting are restore from backup, then restore as new.

  • Firmware 14.3.A.0.757 new bug!!!!

Use the latest version of the software 14.3.A.0.757
The battery on my phone is almost empty, this bug is only present when you turn on the phone, and as soon as the second or third time, locks and unlocks the phone, the problem disappears. It happened to me , but only when the battery is below 12%.
Message: Connect your charger, stands on the clock, and not below it where there should be.
Only when there is a date on the lockscreen, the bug disappears.
I tried to do the repair via SUS and PCC, but to no avail.

Yes,it would be recommended to charge at about 10-15%.I do not know what to say about that issue, contact xperia care:

  • Audio pauses/stops on lockscreen / homescreen

When Safari is playing an embedded quicktime audio file, the sound is fading to mute when I close the smart cover. Also when I press the power button, the sound also mutes. When I then press the home button to view the lockscreen, the play button does not seem to do what it should. The music does not. When I unlock the ipad using my secret code, the music starts playing again.
This is very recent behaviour becasu I listen to long music pieces and church services and I would like to close the smart cover to save some power. That is the same reason why my ipad auto locks after a few minutes of idle time.
What am I doing wrong and how can I get the old behaviour back, so that my iPad still plays music in the background, while the cover is closed. This is the main function of my iPad and I have worked like this for as long as the iPad 3 exists. It has all the latest ios 7 updates.
Please help. I would hate it having to by another brand tablet for only this bug.
    With kind regards,
    Willem Dankier
    From the Netherlands

Another quick addition: I just installed Chrome, and it works like a charm. So the problem is Safari. So for now using Chrome. But I hope I can remove it very soon...

  • LockScreen Flat White Text to hard to read?

It seems more difficult to read the locked screen Time & Date now that it's flat white font, and I was wondering if anyone else has this issue? To explain: When I choose a Lockscreen Wallpaper out of my own camera roll with a white or light background, the Flat White Text blends in and its hard to make out what it says. Rather... if I choose a white or light Stock Wallpaper from Apple's new provided selection within Wallpaper Settings, it is intuitively defaulting the Time & Date to BLACK text, in order to see it better. Why doesn't it do this text-color-change with my photos??? I wish it would change text colors for ALL images, not just the stock ones. Does anyone know how to do this, or is it just yet another ios7 bug, or maybe just my phone?

I've got the same feel about this.
Since iTunes makes good solutions on this whth auto detect album art background color, and automatically chnage font color for high contrast~
Hope iOS7 can phase this feature on lock screen.
Or even make this preference able to changed by user.

  • [solved] Gnome lockscreen questions

    1. Is there a way to get rid of the necessity to pull up the gnome lockscreen or press enter or escape before I can type the password? I want to type directly the password without pressing any button before.
    2. Can I set up gnome to blank the screen when I press CTRL+ALT+L instead of showing bhe tackground and the time?
    Thx
Edit: The bug is solved in Gnome 3.8. Thanks

I think this is not possible, but I can suggest you a workaround. I use the i3 window manager, and it comes with a utility to lock the screen which does exactly what you want. I think the lock utility can work even if you are not using i3wm. Try installing i3lock with pacman, and then in Gnome define a keyboard shortcut for
    i3lock -d -c 000000
It does exactly what you want. It blanks the screen with dpms off(or standby) and locks it. to unlock just start typing your password(the screen will turn on with a black backgroud(you can change the color after -c if you like, it is in hex)) and press enter.
