Lockup using Dragon NaturallySpeaking

I used Dragon NaturallySpeaking to operate my computer and from time to time, Firefox will lock up if I click on a link with flash, video or a number of other animations and sometimes those without. When this happens, it too locks of my DNS leaving me unable operate the computer which is a necessity as I'm paralyzed from roughly the shoulders down. From TaskManager Firefox can be shut down and then everything will work fine. As things stand right now, it's necessary for me to have someone open TaskManager and operate the mouse in order to shut down Firefox as I'm currently on bedrest and unable to do this commencements to or with a mouth wand or anything else. Enough of my drama and back to the subject at hand; I made sure everything is correct from Firefox, all the extensions for Adobe Flash and other extension are up-to-date/current yet the problem continues but not in IE. I'm not at all a fan of IE and I find it more of a hindrance than a help wherewith Firefox, it's much more user-friendly and especially when using DNS and other tools.
With that said, would you have any sort of suggestions for me that are simple yet feasible under the circumstances? You could say that I'm open to anything and everything as I've been using Firefox ever since its conception after watching G4 TV and Kevin (I believe was his name) who gave you the suggestion and/or Firefox nameplate per se. Speaking of Leo and them, has anything positive happened in the way of computers shows on television? It's too bad G4 had to take a turn for the worse or that's my opinion.
Back to my problem, if you have any suggestions or ideas I'm more than open to hear whatever they might be and thank you for your time.
Bruce

This is most likely more of a Dragon problem than Firefox. I would suggest also opening a ticket on their end to. Most likely it just is not familiar with new versions of Firefox and has yet to be updated.

  • Does anyone have problems using Dragon NaturallySpeaking with Firefox

I have just started using Dragon NaturallySpeaking version 13 premium and I am encountering a few problems using it with Firefox. Completing text fields to login to various websites seems to be a major problem. With the cursor in the actual text field Dragon seems to not recognise the username or password that I dictate. I have made sure that the Dragon add-on within Firefox is activated and most of the other commands within the browser seem to work perfectly well.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Whenever I go to paste or copy something will using Dragon NaturallySpeaking, freezes up

I've been using Firefox for the past 15 or so years without any issues BUT lately, when I go to paste something on to a forum, post or other type of form Firefox will then lock up on me. Being that I'm paralyzed from roughly the mid-chest area down,I use Dragon naturally speaking to dictate to my computer which also includes, pasting and copying material. It is especially when I paste information that it'll lockup and the only way to close it out from being froze, is pressing Ctrl+Alt+Delete but even then, it won't only shut down. I have contacted Nunance, the company that makes Dragon NaturallySpeaking but they passed the buck to the software manufacturers.
Thank you much for putting out the best browser available!

hello, you have quite a few adware extensions installed on your pc. please go to ''firefox > addons > extensions'' & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and run a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the [http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free free version of malwarebytes] & [http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/ adwcleaner].

  • I am using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 (a speech recognition software) to navigate through Firefox, but ever since I downloaded the newest version of Firefox how can I download some older versions?

ever since I downloaded the newest version of Firefox, my Dragon NaturallySpeaking hasn't been working very well. For example, I will say "click register" or "click contact us" to select links and buttons on websites. Before this worked fine, but now it hardly works at all, which makes me think that because I am using a Dragon NaturallySpeaking program from 2007 or 2008, that it just doesn't know how to handle a program like Mozilla Firefox six that was written after its time. Or maybe it's the operating system? I was running an older version of Mozilla on Windows XP and now I am on Microsoft's seven.
What I want to try is to download an older version of Mozilla Firefox to see if the problems go away. I don't know if that would mean I would use Mozilla five or four, but I would like to try both. How can I do this, when I go to the website it says "you have the most updated version" and will let me access in the winter versions click post question that post question

  • Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software

Adobe Acrobat V9 Professional crashes or causes PDFs to be corrupted when using Dragon software. I use Nuance Dragon NaturallySpeaking 11.5 to assist me when I add comments to a PDF. I also use it when making additions or changes to text.  When I use the two software programs together, Acrobat constantly crashes.  If it doesn't crash, an error occurs trying to save the file.  I entered 988 comments into a 158-pg PDF, only to find the file was corrupted and couldn't be printed. I also could not see the list of comments (click Show Comments).
These problems do not occur if I don't use both products simultaneously.

Never overwrite a clip that is used in Pr.  Give the
modified/corrected/updated clip a new name and import that into your Pr
project.  Then Alt+Drag the new clip on top of the old clip in the
timeline to replace the clip instance.
If import-then-drag isn't your style, then right-clicking the original

  • Has anyone tried running Dragon NaturallySpeaking (for Windows) on Mac Mavericks?

Has anyone tried running Dragon NaturallySpeaking (for Windows) on Mac Mavericks? I have finally given up on Dragon Dictate for Mac, which alas, after years of buying every new updated version, is still exceedingly buggy and does not begin to compare in quality to the PC version. I love my Mac, and don't like my PC at all, but the third-party  voice  dictation software for Mac is so pathetic, that I have wound up dictating on my PC, and then sending it to my Mac: an truly annoying and Baroque process. I was able to train over 120 words in Sanskrit word perfect on Dragon NaturallySpeaking, but on Dragon Dictate for Mac, I can't even get it to train my name. I know this is not an Apple problem, but I'm trying to find a way around by possibly running the DNS version on Windows on my iMac.
I have a hand disability, so I really do need to use voice dictation, both for dictating and navigating on my computer.
If anyone is doing this, are you using Boot Camp, VM fusion, or Parallels? How well does it work? Has anyone discovered anything else I ought to be considering, before giving this a try? I had tried running this on an old on 2008 iMac (with much less power), using Parallels, but it was incredibly slow. Now that I have a much more powerful iMac, I'm wondering whether it would be worth another try. As it will be quite an investment to purchase all this third-party software to get Dragon up and running, I was hoping to get a sense of how well it works, before plunking down the cash. I would be extremely grateful for helpful feedback.
    IMac, Mavericks OS X 10.9.4, 3.5 GHz Intel core i 7, 8 GB 1600 MHz DD3, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 12, Dragon Dictate 4.0.2

You cannot run a Windows application on a Mac unless you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
         1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows
XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  For Boot Camp
4.0 and above you can only use Windows 7 or later. Follow
instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on
installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and
installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the
computer into OS X or Windows.
         2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business,
Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software
virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently
             with OS X.
         3. VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate,
or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that
enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
         4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows
applications without having to install Windows.  The
Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
         5. VirtualBox is an Open Source freeware virtual machine such
as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.
It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM
             Fusion.
Note that VirtualBox, Parallels, and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech Labs- Virtualization Benchmarks, January 2013 | MacTech for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Benchmarks of all of the above except Crossover can be found in Benchmarking Parallels, Fusion, and VirtualBox Against Boot Camp - The Mac Observer. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking quit working after Flash updated

When Shockwave Flash updated to 11.6, Dragon NaturallySpeaking v 10 Professional quit working as soon as I opened Firefox (v20) and said "mouse click"!  An error message popped up with nothing written on it and nothing I said would make it go away.  In fact, NaturallySpeaking quit working period.  I cannot use my hands at all, so I had to wait for someone to restart the computer before NaturallySpeaking started working again. But as soon as I opened Firefox and tried to click on something, the same thing happened.  After much time and frustration, we finally figured out that NaturallySpeaking would start working again with Firefox IF the Shockwave Flash plug-in was disabled in the add-ons part of Firefox (and the computer restarted, of course, because once that error appears, nothing will get NaturallySpeaking to work again aside from a reboot).  But now, none of the videos (or anything else that uses flash) will work.  So I uninstalled Shockwave Flash and tried to reinstall my previous version (10.3.183.20), but I got a pop-up basically saying that it would not allow me to install this version, because later versions are available!!!  I never had a problem installing earlier versions before.  Why is it not working now?  And how do I make it install version 10.3.183.20?  It's the only one that will work with my version of NaturallySpeaking. Or is there something I can do to get the updated version of flash to work with Dragon NaturallySpeaking?  Please help!  I use Windows 7 (64-bit) Home version.
    Thank you.

I've reached out to Nuance to see if they are aware of this bug.  Could you give me the exact version number of DNS that you are using?
I suspect you'll be able to work around this bug two different ways.  The first is to uninstall the current version of Flash Player and rollback to our most recent 10.3 release which contains all security updates.
How do I revert to a previous version of Flash Player?
The second method would be to disable Flash Player's protected mode.  You can find instructions on how to do this at the bottom of this FAQ:
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?

  • Is it possible to use Dragon Naturally Speaking on a G5

    Hi,
I have a dual 2 GB Power PC processor G5 with 2.5 Gigs of Ram currently running Panther 10.3.9. Can anyone tell me if it is possible to realistically use Dragon Naturally Speaking on my computer, perhaps using Virtual PC? I have seen a lot of old posts on other sites, but the people commenting were using significantly slower systems. My wife bought the DNS and we have 25 days to decide if we want to return it.
If not, is there a decent software that would do this on this system?
Thanks in advance for any info you might be able to share!
    Michael

    Hi Michael:
You probably could run DNS with virtual PC, but I'm guessing it would be painfully slow, and would not integrate with OS X applications.
There are two other Native OS X applications for this:
    1) IBM Via Voice for OS X, same as the app for PC's, BUT it may be hard to find and it has not been updated for years, and i'm not sure it is supported any more.
    2) Mac Speech's iListen, really the only choice for native OS X. It integrates with virtually any OS X application and is currently available and supported.
    See:
    http://www.macspeech.com/
note: they claim that you should use one of their high quality microphones, but i find it to work OK with a logitech USB headset.
for my money I would return DNS and get iListen.

  • Using Dragon Dictate with Pocketcloud

We use Pocketcloud to access our terminal server. Specifically our attorneys do a lot of work inside the connection in Outlook and our Case Management software. We are trying to use Dragon Dictate to Dictate notes and emails and copy and paste to the applications within Pocketcloud. We cannot get anything to paste into apps within Pocketcloud. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks.

Thanks for your response. I have ordered Dragon Dictate so have not tried it yet. But I see from the demo that you can give commands like File>new. So I wondered if in FCE one could speak, File>export> Quicktime etc? Anything to save the old wrist.
Actually I am experimenting using my left hand on the mouse. sure does slow down and frustrate the use of FCE!

  • Problems using Dragon Dictate for Mac.

I used Dragon Naturally Speaking for years on my PC.  Switched to an IMac.  Dragon for Mac leaves a lot to be desired - training, recognizing, editing.  Any suggestions about how to improve performance or other voice recognition software for Mac users?  I dictate a lot of reports using MS Word.

First of all I have no expertise in installing programs if they are problematic, I can only pass on my experience which relates to trying to purchase and install an Upgrade from MacSpeech Dictate 1.5 to Dragon Dictate 2.5 and the past experience I have had with MacSpeech, the company before Nuance.
The 800-number doesn't get you to Technical Support and I think I was hung up on as well.  The wait for technical support was about 10 minutes.  If you are paying for the phone call by the minute that could be costly.
    Technical Support
    781-565-4960
The tech was patient and his directions were easy to follow.  He logged into my screen using Join Me and if you find that too invasive, it may also be a reason not to continue with Dictate.
Do I understand that you purchased a physical copy of the program on disk? Was it as an Upgrade that Nuance shipped to you?  And it wouldn't let you register the product?  The other criticism I had of MacSpeech and it seems to have carried on to Nuance was that the matter of accounts and registration accounts can be a forest.
The website to register the program is www.macspeech.com/licenses/. (There is another site for registering other Nuance products but it doesn't recognize your account for products that have been registered on the MaSspeech site.).To register the product you will need to set up an account (not an uncommon process) but that account will not be the way you access the download if you purchase the product by digital copy.If you purchase the program as a physical copy, I would suggest you register the product before you start installing but it really shouldn't be necessary because the program will prompt you to register if the install goes well.
I can't recall which identification they asked for when I called technical services - the product code, the order number, or my registration account but I was prepared with all of them.
Once you do register a program, the code can be accessed in the future if you keep track of the account and website on which you registered it.  I see there is also an option which downloads the code to your computer but heaven-knows-where it is stored.  On some other programs the code is stored in the application icon menu. My account on the Macspeech registration website stores the codes for 3 programs I have had since Nuance took over from MacSpeech.
If you have purchased a physical copy and the registration site I listed above won't let you register it, I would call the 800-number which is
    Customer Service
    800-654-1187
What I was trying to do was purchase the Upgrade of Dragon Dictate 2.5 as the result of an email offer because I was a previous customer of MacSpeech Dictate 1.5.  The website only seemed to offer to send me a physical copy with shipping of either $24 or $30 to Canada. When I decided I wouldn't buy the Upgrade because of the shipping cost, I found that I couldn't remove the item from the shopping cart and eventually couldn't even access the shopping cart.  When I called the 800-number to complain they told me there was a problem on the website which wasn't offering the download which was my preference.  They offered to sell me the digital download over the phone which I could then retrieve from the website www.findmyorder.com with the login which asks for the order number and a password (which I think was assigned when I placed the order, but as I said, registration, download access, etc can be a forest and I was very confused by this time.)
At the www.findmyorder.com website, there were two files to download, the program for 2.5 and the data disk. When I tried to install the program and the data, the process started going around in circles asking for things over and over again.I wondered what I was doing wrong (a common reaction) so I tried to install the program on another computer.  The install on the second computer was easy and although I hadn't yet registered the product the program prompted me to register it. It also updated to 2.5.1 (although I only am aware of that in retrospect.)  So I went back to the first computer and tried to install again. The same problem happened.  At one point I exceeded the number of downloads which is 5 because I was trying to get rid of downloads that didn't seem to be working.  I called the 800-number and without too much difficulty, the person reset the downloads.  But the same thing happened, with the program asking for the data disk.  That is when I called Tech Support.
After the tech showed me where to retrieve 2.5.1 from their website (because he said 2.5 was buggy) and I reinstalled the data disk from the www.findmyorder.com website, the install worked well.  BTW I found it hard to understand on the www.findmyorder.com download website which file was which.  I got very confused and ended up not getting the data disk.  The program disk image which is listed second is called Dragon_Dictate_Englishes.2.5.dmg.  The data file listed first is Dragon_English_Data2.5dmg.  You need both files normally but if you are getting the 2.5.1 file, I don't believe you have to have installed 2.5 first.
In retrospect I may have not understood how to install the two files - the program file and the data file but I can't remember exactly what was happening. By that time I was pretty lost.
Back to MacSpeech Dictate 1 or 1.5, I assumed that I would have to have this installed on my computer in order to install the Upgrade of Dragon Dictate 2.5. Remember, I was trying to install 2.5 on a new computer. Although I had done this before I tried to purchase the Upgrade 2.5 (because the computer was new and MacSpeech 1.5 hadn't been installed on it yet), I am not sure it was necessary.
There didn't seem to be any "secret codes" that hadn't to be removed first.  You may be talking about old or corrupted plist files which sometimes interfere with applications.  The tech just told me to drag any 2.5 applications to the trash after we got off the phone, of which by now I had about 5 on the computer.  I have had old versions on a previous computer and they never seemed to interfere with one another. I think I still have iListen 1.0 on a very old computer as well as every fresh version and upgrade.
I hope this reply wasn't too long and didn't add to the confusion.  As I said in the first message, the criticisms are well founded.  Installing MacSpeech iListen and accessing services has been a minefield from the beginning and it isn't improving.  For someone interested in easy-to-use voice recognition I would suggest the Dragon Dictate app for an iPad or iPod Touch.  Works wonderfully but it has very limited features.
My husband, who has physical disabilities but until recently could type better than MacSpeech Dictate was working for him and didn't have a computer that would work with MacSpeech Dictate, has been using Dragon Dictate 2.5.1 on his new computer without a microphone for a couple of days.  He believes there is hope, although with past versions he was frustrated after an hour and quit.  One new thing in Dragon Dictate 2.5 is that editing on the keyboard before you finish the document does not mess up further voice input.  He continues to struggle with voice control (a good exercise for the voice) and his tendency to talk as if there he has a secretary taking shorthand.  You really do have to talk to the computer in a conversational way, speaking in full sentences or full phrases if possible, not in separate words.
From iListen 1.0 I kept saying that voice recognition would work well for everyone.  It has been a long road but I can see on the horizon that it will be available for everyone.  The iPad/iPod app is close.

  • The functionality of scrolling up/down in a page using "Dragon Naturally Speaking" doesn't function as desired. It is supposed to scroll slowly, but it just jumps to that particular part of the page.

Start scrolling up & start scrolling down are the commands that need to be used using Dragon. The page is supposed to start scrolling slowly up/down respectively. But, in Firefox, it is observed that it jumps to the top/bottom of the page instead of scrolling slowly(as desired). Is Firefox compatible with Dragon?

    Hello AC.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your problems, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

Contact Dragon Dictate support. I posted the link in my first reply to you.
    And check Safari extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
Also, you mentioned your current version of Safari is 7.0.5
Updating to Safari 7.0.6 may help.
Click your Apple  top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update.
