Log an Transfer P2 User Clip names

We have a problem, all this times we have wanted the user clip name meta data, but now we finally have it FCP 7 has automatically combined it with the clip name!
surly it would have been better to have the User Clip name in its own meta data column like P2cms or HDlog?? then we could custom how we want to name I with the fab new custom naming tool.
It there any way to get FCP 7 not to combine the user clip name and clip name together?
this problem is huge to my workflow that cannot for this project be changed.

It is a bit silly. We actually do want the original name at the tail, just not the UserClipName ( if that metadata exists ) automatically bolted onto the front.
We make containing folders for each P2CMS offload folder ( done in the field ), which could be 1 or more P2 cards merged. With FCP7 it's easy to make a unique name for each Quicktime by combining this folder name ( like a reel name ) with the original P2 name. Makes it very easy if you want to conform anything or go back to original P2 for whatever reason.
With FCP 7.0.1's new "bonus" feature we just have to use P2CMS to strip off any UserClipName metadata before Log and Transfer.
P2 Flow is very cool. I'd seriously love it if they could figure out how to use the mxf files natively in FCP for your offline edit and then give you the ability to conform a picture lock to self contained Quicktimes using L and T's batch capture feature. Seems L and T won't recognise the native mxf's as tapeless files that it can re-capture.
This would allow super quick and easy offlines but the ability to create Quicktimes for sending out to a finishing house for grading or online.

AVCHD User Clip Name Recognition in Prelude

I am shooting on a Panasonic Ag-af100 and I have used the P2 Viewer Plus app to load custom metadata onto the camera. I set a name in the "User Clip Name" field.
I can see this custom name when previewing the AVCHD file in Quicktime Player, but Prelude CS6 reverts to the numbering beginning at 00001.
Is it possible for Prelude to use the customized name field in the transcoding/copying process?

Prelude CS6 does not have support for that type of renaming.
Prelude CC 2014 introduced additional file renaming on ingest options that allow you to specify the starting incremental count. It does yet provide the ability to get this starting value from existing metadata, however (it must be entered by you). That is a good feature request though and we are looking into it.

Log and Transfer Skipping Queued Clips

Yesterday, I attempted to capture footage taken over the weekend for a documentary project. Of the 350 clips I put in queue, 54 of them DID NOT capture. FCP goes through the process and acts like it is capturing/transcoding them (complete with status bar for each clip), but randomly when a clip is 'done' it does not appear in the logging bin or on the media drive.
This means that after each import I have to go back and compare clip lengths of each clip (of 350) to figure out which clips FCP skipped. Errrr....

I'd never set up that many clips to go by themselves but that's just me.
Comparing the length of the clips to find which are not being transferred is not right, you should be using a counter and custom names.
Umm, wait, Log and Transfer or Log and Capture?
I do not know that camera but the proper ingest method would be to copy the cards to yoru drive and ingest from the drive, not the camera cards.
This ensures lots of things but also properly sets up any soaned files.
Why a particular file does not come in from a card is often bad storage media. There may be absolutely nothing you can do about that.
Look up the camera model, see if ayone else has had similar issues. Wait a few hours to see if ayone who has more experience with those codecs than I can offer something more helpful.

Log and Transfer renaming my clips

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with FCE - I have been using the Log and Transfer function to acquire video clips from my Sony HD cacmorder without problem until, out of curiosity (always a bad move), I clicked the 'Revert to Original Metadata' option in the Log and Transfer window.
Now, everytime I acquire a video clip it no longer imports as the name originally in the camcorder (e.g. "Clip#150") and instead names it as the next available clip number, e.g. "Clip#188".
I can't get this changed back and it's frustrating.
Anyone else have this problem or know how to solve it?

Unable to log in to the user account (name) at this time

I get this error message when I try to log-in in my main admin account. And this is not a lost password issue I know im typing the write password because when I type a wrong one the box shakes when I type the right one it gives me that message.
I tried alot of stuff to gain access to it but I cannot, the only thing that I can do is go in as root user and extract the files that I had in there, but I have no physcial access to the login it self, I started making a different account name for it but I dont want to lose all my prefrenses although I think the only thing that is making it this way is File Vault (its swtiched on for the locked out account)
Any thoughts?

I'm also getting the dreaded "You are unable to log in to the user account __ at this time" but believe this happened when I inadvertently tuned off an external hard drive without ejecting it first. At first, I thought it was a File Vault problem, but my user.sparseimage file is still there and accessible once I changed the permissions to those of another user account.
What I have come to believe, based on other postings I have read on this topic, at least in my case, is that I must have corrupted the logged in user on the netinfo file. The solutions I've seen so far for fixing the netinfo file seem pretty complicated, though I do have a backup of that file.
I have yet to decide whether the netinfo problem is easily fixable or if I would better employ my time moving my iTunes and iPhoto files off that sparse image and into another user account. I'm open to suggestions.

When i log and transfer AVCHD the Clips transfer with blackouts

I shoot on an AF100. FCP log and transfer (prores 422) consistently works well for me but randomly a few clips will convert fully, but have 90% of the clip blacked out.
The clips will show up in my capture scratch, in my assets bin, but when i scrub them on the preview monitor after the first 20 seconds or so, it turns black?? Although the clip is it's proper length there is no sound and only black. But the clip previews in full in L&T?
Any ideas?!

Are you continuing to work in FCP or another app whilst Log and Transfer is importing? If so, try reimporting one of those clips that has not come in properly, but this time once you start the import then leave the Mac alone to complete the process. See if the newly imported clip(s) are ok.

Log and Transfer - Mystery Clips Appear?

Whenever I go to import P2 media using the Log and Transfer mode in Final Cut Pro 7, I'm getting these mystery clips labled "Clip #1, Clip #2.. all they way up to Clip #344 and it indicates they reside on my external media drive. Most of the clips have no related media, that is, nothing appears in the thumbnail or name block-- its just black. Now, there are a few that do have thumbnails representing video clips but when try to view any related media, nothing shows. It seems they could be from a non-P2 import from a long time ago, yet the media no longer exists. I can click on one of the clips and eject, which makes them all disappear, but I also get the message "This volume cannot be unmounted because it is being used for importing." Which is strange as I never import from this volume. Rather, I either import from an internal drive or from a network drive.
If I do a Find (command + F) in Finder and type in Clip #1, it cannot find anything on the external media drive or anywhere else. I'm wondering if it has something to do with some legacy Prefs but I've dumped those and restarted and still get these mystery clips. And this is EVERY time I go to Log and Transfer. I can exit Log and Transfer and, in the same session, go back and there are those mystery clips! Again.

Maybe I wasn't clear: I have no trouble loading or viewing my P2 card media (which is already off-loaded onto an archive drive and then transcoded-- via Log and Transfer-- to my media drive.) Its that every time I open Log and Transfer, these mystery clips appear. If I eject them, I get the error message mentioned. If I don't, I can still load my P2 media and the mystery clips are listed below the actual P2 media I am looking to use.
And I have dumped my prefs repeatedly and still the mystery clips survive.
I think my issue resides in the Log and Transfer Import Preferences. If I could only clean those up, as I see one of my options is MPEG2 Consumer Cameras (??), maybe that would help.

Log and Transfer w/ Sony HVX - problems

I loaded the log and transfer window with all the footage and added it to queue. Once it was finished transferring every clip shot at 59.94 had a "half-circle" icon next to it, meaning some frames were not captured. Every clip is short about 16 frames.
But the stuff shot at 23.98 all came in fine and with the "full circle" icon.
Anyone seen this before?

I have resolved the issue. Let me explain what happened.
My 59.94 footage was being transfered to FCP as 23.98. Also, in the log and transfer window my clips had a "half-circle" next to them instead of the usual "full circle". The cause of this was in Preferences, the Remove Advance Pulldown and Duplicate Frames option was checked. After unchecking it, I retransfered the clips perfectly fine.

Log and transfer metadata

I am ingesting into FSsvr using log and transfer. I am using the media metadata set with the addition of the FCP log and capture fields.
When I ingest clips i find that some of them (randomly it seems) do not appear to have the log and transfer metadata attached.
Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

thanks for getting back to me.
No, the metadata is only being logged as i ingest the clip using log and transfer. I click the clip, log my data in and hit the button which adds the clip to the queue.
I have been working on a solution and the following seems to work:
-log and transfer all my clips adding the metadata as I go
-verify all the clips are in the project bin - save the project locally
-verify all clips are inside the newly created production in the FCserver catalogue - some will have viewable metadata others, for some reason, do not!
-drag and drop the FCP project into the production on FCserver, bring it in.
-double click the FCP project and double click an asset within it (these should be automatically associated by bringing in the FCP project which was saved after LandC)
-click on the 'final cut pro logging' tab - the Metadata should be here, even if it isnt viewable on the asset itself - i.e before it was catalogued relevant to the FCP project.
This isnt ideal, but its a kind of work around for the time being.
i'm going to look into mapping my own metadata.

How to name clips in Log and Transfer

I work at a production company and we log and transfer a lot of High Definition footage. We can't seem to figure out an efficient way to label all of our clips though. I can name the Reel but how do you name clips without spending all day clicking on each clip and renaming.

When renaming clips in Log and Transfer, I found out the hard way that these names are stored with the FCP project file that is open at the time, and this data will disappear if you try ingest it while another FCP files is open.
In other words, if you are working on a project and want video you ingested for a different project, using Log and Transfer to get those clips will leave you without all of the clip names that you spend so much time adding.
Has anyone found a way around this?

Log and Transfer Clips are in order from name, not actual time of recording

When I first installed my Final Cut Express HD and went to Log and Transfer, the clips were organized properly (#1 #2 #3 etc.), but one time I accidentally hit the "Name" column at the top, which then put all the clips in order by name (#1 #10 #11). This makes things a lot harder for me when I only need to select certain clips. I've tried re-installing the program, but to no avail. Can someone please help me get this back to the order in which the clips were first recorded?

I found out the problem. The controls do not work if the AVCHD footage is in SD. They do appear if footage is in HD.

I'm importing AVCHD files that are 5 digits long. 'Log an Transfer' seems to remove the leading 0's, when importing, and I'm forced to manually add them back in order to make sure that my clips stay in chronological order
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Can't select input output and name media when using MRC1 log and transfer

I am using a MRC1 from the Sony Z5E to film my media. I downloaded the plugin which allows me to log and transfer through FCP 6.0.6. The only problem is that it does not allow me to input/output and name the pieces of each clip that I want. Hence I can only import the whole clip and am wasting time and space with media that I do not want or need. Is there an additional plugin or setting to pick on FCP to get this feature to work?

Hi xhk, I'm a Kubuntu's user and I've had the same problems. I've been days reading on the Internet about this issue and finally I solve it by following this post from a Spanish tutorial: http://bit.ly/4p3XFq. It worked for me!
Basically it is:
1. Get install the needed packages, i.e: sudo apt-get install ibus ibus-pinyin
2. After installing them, introduce a little code into two files:
2.1.--> type on your konsole: kate /home/$(whoami)/.bashrc
a--> add to the bottom of the opened text:
export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus
export XMODIFIERS=@im=ibus
export QT_IM_MODULE=ibus
b-->save the changes on the text.
2.2.--> type again on your konsole: kate /home/$(whoami)/.profile
b--> repeat 2.1.a. and 2.1.b
3. Go to main menu - system settings - advance - "autoarranque" (I don't know how it is called in English, "restarting" maybe?) and then "add a programme". Type: ibus-daemon -d, press OK and then rebooth.
It shall be working by then.

Log and Transfer - Clip Sorting Issue

Hello. I have been using an AVCHD camera for some time now, and when I would use the Log And Transfer the clips would show up in the order they were recorded. I accidentally pressed a tab at the top to sort a different way, and now I can't get back to how it was. See http://dcdl.info/20100212171440.png for a screenshot. I know it has to do with how the clips are automatically named.
If anyone can help me with this, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Just a thought!
Right-click on the "Name" field and check "Date Created" in the drop-down list. If you now sort using the Date Created column, will this reorder the clips as you want them? If not, are there any other options in the list that might?

Log and transfer clip setting over clip #100 +

When I selected all clips on log and transfer, they stop at Clip #99. It could not transfer more than #100. I had to rename to a, b, c, etc. Is there any preferance settings to accept over #100? I want to keep them in order.

All cards start with #1? I don't see "#1" anywhere.
I see the clip names, like 0001MS, 0002Z8 and so on. And VOLUME NAME is the name of the card or name of the folder you put the card in. The second card MIGHT start again with 0001, but have another code, like "0001GU, 0002B2" and so on. Because that it the first one on that card. IF a shot spanned from one card to the next, the number scheme would continue, like you are seeing. 0057HW, 0058J9, something to that effect.
This is the way P2 names clips, and there is nothing you can do to change this. Import them, and then rename them...fine.
Are you saying that it can't go beyond shot 100? 0100YU, but no 0101IK? P2 can go to 999.
