Log and Transfer Audio Mixdown

For some reason, when i log and transfer on FCP, it says, under the import settings tab "(Audio is mixed down to stereo)" I would really like it to not mix down, i would like the full 5 channels that the camera has, there are even 5 distinct mics, on the camera, so I would really like to have this capability. Thanks in advance for any help.

P2 LOG AND TRANSFER AUDIO???

I have run into this problem before, but it seemed to resolve itself in the past. When i am using log and transfer to capture P2 media, I sometimes find that I can not hear the audio of the clips in the add clip to queue viewer. The audio is definitely there, it shows levels and when captured has audio, but I can't actually hear the clips I am logging. Any ideas how to correct this? Our server where I work has been a culprit in the past on certain FC issues, but I'm not sure of that on this one. If I can't hear the audio, I can't weed out the bad takes which means our server will fill up with crap I don't need to capture. Any help would be huge.

I've your "so the fix..." work around with no luck.
My situation isn't entirely the same bc i work almost entirely off P2 cards and not tape/p2 back and forth. When its working it will work for a long time (several captures over weeks) but i haven't determined what makes it stop working and how to get it back easily (without the restart).
i tried hooking up the HVX200 in tape mode, opening log/capture window playing back (with audio preview ON). exiting that and opening L&T (with camera still on) but with no luck.
Any other sugg's?
The audio is coming out of the mac LINE OUT and not the KONA3 out.

Log and transfer audio channels

Is there a way in "Log and transfer" to set the transfer of audio tracks to two for all clips instead of setting it one at a time?

it's in the capture settings.
Go back and look at your presents. You're probably using a preset that someone switched to one, and then saved. Your question is the opposite of the norm. The norm is: multiple channels and how do I get it to be one?
And if you're already logged. When you go to batch capture you can uncheck the "use logged settings" and select the correct preset. That should do it.

Sync Audio using Log and Transfer

Shot footage using Sony Ex-1, recorded audio separately on DAT. There is a Timecode jammed, as well as a clapper. Using Final Cut 6.06.
Can I sync the audio and video before putting them in the bin? Is there a way to sync the audio and video using "Log and Transfer"?
I'm trying to find a way to sync them so that it saves the video and audio as a separate movie file.

Log and transfer MTS file and audio slip issues

I'm having 3 issues with a 30 minute project in FCE HD.
1. When I create clips in log and transfer, sometimes my footage chatters when I watch in in the viewer or place it on the timeline. It didn't chatter in camera, I checked, and it doesn't chatter in log and transfer. I can re-cut the clip in log and transfer but I'm trying to save time!
2. When creating a clip in log and transfer or just transferring a full clip, FCE trims the last 3 to 4 seconds off. I need these 3 to 4 seconds!
3. When trimming and razoring a 9 minute+ clip on the timeline, the audio begins to slip and continues to slip the longer I trim.
If anyone has answers to my three issues, please help. This project is frustrating in content and now it's frustrating in editing!

Sorry it has taken so long for me to get back to you. Again, thank you for taking the time to help me.
Your first question, these clips came from my Panasonic HMC 150 camera. I filmed at 24 fps. I downloaded the files from my SD card to my laptop, then use log and transfer to bring the clips into the project.
FCE only offers 25 fps or 29.97 fps. So, there is a discrepancy there. I'm not sure how to fix that when I want to stay with 24 fps. Yes, I can film at other frame rates, I just prefer 24 for what I generally create. Is there a plugin for more frame rate choices in FCE? Or is that just available in FCP?
Your second question, I always use insert. I only use overwrite for my title cards.
And finally, your third, I am aware of the destination tabs. I understand how they work. My issue with having so many tracks is that I am working on a laptop without a mouse and sometimes when I move a clip the timeline jumps and creates the extra tracks when I place the clip. I just need to be more careful when moving clips.
Now, as to my final issue and that is the trimming of the clips through log and transfer. FCE trims off the first and last couple of seconds and will not allow me to bring them into the project. Is this a setting problem or just inherent of FCE?

Audio Drops on QT Files After P2 Log and Transfer

I'm using Log and Transfer to convert my P2 data into editable QuickTimes; however, for some reason, my rendered QuickTime files loose their audio at some point. I say, "Some point," because it's not at a specific timecode. It's different for each clip. Some maintain the audio for 80% of the clip while others might be 30%. I know the audio is there because I can hear throughout the entire length of each clip in the Log and Transfer window. Any idea what's happening during the render to QuickTime process?

Possible quick fix -won't hurt to try it.
Deleting FCP Preferences:
Open a Finder window. Set the view mode to columns:
Click the house icon that has your name next to it.
Click the folder "Library" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Preferences" in the next column.
Find and click the folder "Final Cut Pro User Data" in the next column.
Move the files "Final Cut Pro 6.0 Prefs", "Final Cut Pro Obj Cache" and "Final Cut Pro Prof Cache" to the Trash and empty it.
When you have a stable set of preference files, download [Preference Manager|http://www.digitalrebellion.com/pref_man.htm] to back them up. If you have further problems, the backup can be recalled and you can continue working.

Log and transfer P2 no audio

Had Audio playback in Log & Transfer before. Captured from tape. Now log and transfer P2 has no audio. I have tried all the various audio setting in the A/V settings nothing works. Ideas?

For the most part I don't think you understand my question as of yet, but I have solved it.
While using the capture window to capture DV material from tape, I had shut off the deck before closing the window. This is not normally a problem as the next time I would capture from tape I would turn the deck on then open the capture window. FCP then checks for the deck, sees it and I off and running. But when the next thing I do is Log & Transfer and not Capture from tape the deck is still missing. Now, I don't care about the deck missing in the Video devices pulldown, but FCP does. Even if I choose Default as the audio device Log & Transfer will not play the audio if the Video device is missing.
So the fix, Set easy setup to your tape capture setting. Turn the deck on and make sure it's plugged in. Open the capture window. Now close the capture window and open the Log & transfer window. Voila, Audio plays in the Log & Transfer window. You can turn the deck off and so long as the video device doesn't go missing audio will play in the Log & Transfer window.

Audio vanished in Log and Transfer

Title says it all. All of a sudden I miss my audio in Log and Transfer. It's all gone for some reason. Did a restart, to no avail. Audio is intact after import, but not in XMF preview. Anybody know what's up?

Final Cut Express Log and Transfer files not playing audio on another mac

I recently purchased a new Mac Pro for video editing for work, and am having some issues with it. Previously i was working on a MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11, on Final Cut Express 4.
I used Log & Transfer to get the AVCHD videos from my Canon HF 11 onto my mac, and had no issues. Where my problems started was when I moved my video files to my new Mac Pro running OS 10.5.6. Now when I open those video files in either Quicktime or FCE, the VIDEO plays but _not the audio_. I thought maybe the video files were bad, but when I tried the original files on the new Mac, they still didn't work. I don't know if there's some codec that isn't on the new mac or if there's some other problem... I just know that my new amazing machine cannot play the files that my 3 year old one can. I'm not new to computers, but I'm not an Apple guru. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Well I can try trashing the files, but I can't log and transfer the files again, as it's months of footage that aren't on the camera anymore. But i did find something else out. The files that were recorded with the camera's built-in mic recording is fine and with sound, but the files that I used my wireless mic setup had no sound. I don't know why that is, because they worked fine on the MacBook Pro. I tried log and transferring a new clip on the Mac Pro wit;h footage using the wireless mic, and still no sound.

Problem with Log and transfer using AVCHD

I was wondering if I can get help. I use a Canon Vixia HF S200 and FCP Version 6.0.6
I have produced projects on my MacBook Pro 2.33 Ghz Intel Core 2 using this process before with no problems in the past. This problem just started and I dont know what has changed. When I open the Log and Transfer (LT) window I can see and hear all my video from the AVCHD folder in my harddrive just fine, I can scrub with no prob.... But when I add clip to Queue I get an red circle with exclamation on my status.
I have changed the settings on the preferences to Apple intermediate Codec and the audio to plain stereo.. no luck there, the video still will not transfer to my bin.
I have made sure that the toggle Queue state was the little arrow instead of the paused icon...no luck there either... i got a message that says clip queued transferring but nothing is happening.
I will appreciate your help!

OK!!!!! This seriously cost me 1 day of my life that I'll never get back!!! lol
So I was able to bring the footage in on to Imovie...Yes, I was that desperate...deadlines do that!
Edited the entire project there...kinda sucked...
Then I had the bright idea that if I was able to bring the videos in to Imovie, on my local HD...than something may be wrong with my scratch disk that I use on FC...its a USB disk, specs =slow.
So I changed the scratch disk and yes "Davi S" for good measure I also deleted the Pref files.
So it working again...here I go editing on FC after I edited the entire project on Imovie...

Most camcorders call this folder "PRIVATE" or "AVCHD" and it should be located at the very top level of the camcorder when mounted. FCP Crash when opening log and transfer with some AVCHD footage on a card

Hi,
I'm using a freshly (re)installed version of FCP 7 on a brand new macbookpro loaded with 8gb ram and equipped with a small 2ghz Intel Core i7
I get footage shot on Panasonic ag-hmr10 minicams coming on SD cards as AVCHD footage. Sometimes the files are quite big, 17gb of compressed footage.
When I go to log and transfer, to convert the footage in apple prores, the l/t window opens, I see a preview of my footage, than the spinning beach ball of death shows up and FCP crashes every time. I've tried deleting the preferences and reinstalling the software. Still, it keeps crashing. Now the same file on a different computer equipped with FCP will be processed, slowly but surely.
Now I know I can work around this problem by going to toast as an encoder, but I want to fix this issue so I can operate from FCP. I've seen this problem posted before but never found any good solution.
Any suggestions?

Have you tried setting the L&T AVCHD audio conversion prefs to plain stereo?
Open the L&T window.
Click on the gear icon towards the upper center of the frame.
Select "Plain Stereo" For the AVCHD plugin.

Log and transfer footage from Panasonic GH1 into FCE

I have already read the few threads discussing importing AVCHD video from the Panasonic GH1 camera into FCE. I was expecting that the 1080x24 (wrapped in 60i) would import OK but the 720x60p would not. However, so far, I have had both formats import using the log and transfer just fine. These have been only short clips roughly a minute or less in length but no sign of FCE crashing when importing the 60p footage.
So, is this considered normal or has something in the most recent OSX updates fixed this FCE capability?

The program is usually able to ingest 24p and 60p footage fine, but upon exporting it will be conformed to the frame rate of your sequence. Since FCE doesn't support custom sequences all exported movies are either in 29.97fps or 25fps. Problems also sometimes arise where the program interprets your footage as 29.97fps instead of what it actually is, causing the audio to drift a bit as well.
Better to stick to what the program supports: 50i/25p and 60i/30p. If you need the functionality of 24p or 60p you should upgrade to Final Cut Pro.

Log and transfer idle

I have Juast got FCE4 upgraded to do HD. I'm trying to log and transfer my AVCHD footage. I changed my video and audio prefences. all my cips show up but if i try to play them they crash FCE. If i try to transfer them it lookes like its loading and than gives me the red sighne with the exclamation mark and sais clip queued -Idle

Have you used Software Update to make sure your copy of FCE is updated to version 4.0.1?

Trouble transferring from Log and Transfer.

I have a brand new Panasonic HDC-HS20 camera. I am recording with the HA1920 setting on my camera. While in Log and Transfer I am able to select the clips I want to add to the queue, but after FCE acts like the clips will be loaded; a red stop sign with a exclamation point appears. I have tried changing the conversion from Matrix audio to Plain audio, and that doesn't seem to change anything.
What does anyone think I need to do? Is it possible that this camera is so new new, that FCE does not fully support it yet?

I assume these settings will match my media because HA1920 is the highest quality setting on my camera. The only thing I could not figure out is what rate i should use.. i picked 29.97 fps. Could it be 25 fps?
And this is a hard drive camera. And all the media are the same format.
